  • How to keep any greens fresh for longer, including spinach, kale, lettuce, Swiss chard, etc. This is a super easy and effective storage tip. READ BELOW FOR MORE DETAILS...
    It's easy. The #1 threat is moisture.
    So,to keep your greens fresh, use a paper towel or napkin in the bottom of your container. Check it one in a while and wipe away any condensation that's collected. Also, throw away any leaves that have wilted. They can contaminate the rest.
    Your spinach will last AT LEAST 1.5-2 weeks this way. Especially if you check on it once in a while.
    If you need to store your greens for longer than 2 weeks, you'll need to take your storage strategy to another level.
    For this storage tip, to keep your greens from wilting, you'll store them in an air-tight bag. Use a heavy duty zip lock bag with a good seal, and use a straw to suck the air out. You can see a demo here:
    • How to keep lettuce fr...
    Typically softer, more delicate leaves won't last as long as firmer ones.
    Also, if you pre-wash any greens:
    1. Don't cut them. Break them off the stem, but only chop them up right before you'll eat.
    2. Use a salad spinner to thoroughly dry the leaves before storing them.

    Yup!! Been doing it this way for years. I've tried many things, plastic produce keepers, fridge paper, etc....this is the best way!
    Also, placing greens in a a paper bag with a paper towel thrown in works, too.

    If you prefer not to have to babysit your greens in the plastic, use aluminum foil....Wash, dry, lay paper towels on foil and wrap it loosely....I’ve had greens of every kind keep for more than a month....I actually do this with ALL my fresh produce....Things that stay on the core I dampen a folded piece of paper towel and press it against the trimmed/clean core bottom....😁

    But you put the paper towel in the middle of two layers of greens in your demo?

  • @Mellovesdeep25
    @Mellovesdeep25 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I used to do this but then I saw a video that suggested a damp paper towel so I do that with arugula, kale, etc and they seem to last longer but I am going to try a dry paper towel for my spinach and see the difference.
