@@maryconner9577 Is the bell not there? Oh no... I hope it's there on my other vids. I am uploading a new shrimp recipe right now, should be posted in about 15 more minutes. hopefully the bell will be on that one.
I have been following the method in this video for almost 9 months now, and let me tell you, it is SHOCKING how well it works! I will pull out some cilantro weeks later stored with this method and it tastes and looks amazing! Thank you so much for this video, I had almost given up buying cilantro due to frustration with storage, I didn't think it was possible. It is so nice to have it available anytime I need it. I started using micro-fiber clothes instead of paper towels and it works great too
What are those, never heard of them before, yes was thinking paper towels are very expensive atm, I use them only for essentials, I normally buy the triple reusable variety. This is a good tip, just so happen I’ve bought some fresh spring onions yesterday.@@judyl3490
Cilantro is an essential part of my cooking every week and this has been the perfect tip to keep it fresh without going to the store twice a week to pick it up, thank you!
Been doing this for years...I tend to wash first, then let air dry for a few hours on a cloth towel and then do exactly as you do. For cilantro, you can also cut and freeze the stems which are great for cooking. Regular parsley can also be cut fine and frozen in a jar and used for cooking. Anyhow, nice video and I am subscribing...hope the baby is now enjoying your food!
I hate to waste paper towels, and I was thinking the same thing. Can I lay out my greens, maybe near a fan, and let them dry naturally instead of using paper? Thanks for showing me it does work!
I wash my cilantro when I bring it home from the store. I spin it dry in a salad spinner, towel dry, then put in a jar of water with a paper towel covering it. I place a plastic bag over it and place into the refrigerator. It lasts a long time.
@@gloriaf6971Yes, I wash and spin dry all of my herbs. There's a lot of grit in that herbs. Once I spin them dry I lay them on paper towels loosely and put them in a zip-lock bag and off into the veggie crisper for 2-3 weeks.
Tried this for some fresh curly parsley and some cilantro (coriander leaf) This method works like a charm and now 2 weeks on the fresh herbs are in the fridge in a sealed polythene box and as fresh as the day they went in. I've dipped into them for cooking and it's proving a perfect way to store it and not have to throw any away. Only one parsley leaf turned half yellow in 2 weeks. I call that a great method and thanks for the tip.
Thank you so much for this video. I gave a definite thumbs up! One thing I would like to point out is that you don't have to dry the cilantro/green onion or whatever with disposable paper towels!! My parents always did this with tea towels or hand towels that you just throw in the laundry when you're done. It works wonderfully, just like you show and costs less in the long run. We don't need to be sending so much stuff to the garbage. Thanks again for all the effort you do to show this technique so we aren't sending all this produce to the garbage as well!!! Excellent 👏.
I am SO thankful I watched this…I’ve been storing my cilantro wrong and getting frustrated when it got slimy before I used it up. Great tip! I put the root end of my green onions in a pot with dirt on my kitchen windowsill and have fresh green onions all the time. I just cut off what I need and let them keep growing.
AMAZING video, thank you so much! I’ve thrown away bushels of rotted slimy cilantro and green onions in my life. Will begin doing this right away-makes so much sense. Good for the budget, good for the planet!
The paper towels won't be "dirty" after use unless the cilantro rots. Barely damp, easy to let dry and use for cleaning. Any kitchen paper towel that I use to dry anything already cleaned gets laid out to dry, only thrown away when it gets soiled.
I save my dry used paper towels in a bag kept under the kitchen sink. Useful to soak up oil /grease /tomatoey stains from pans/pots/dishes or soak up spillage on floors.
I cut the green part of green onions and put the white one in the jar with 2 inch of water , it grows and I use the green part at list 4 -5 times ! I have 4 bunch of green onion all winter in jar ready to use 😊
I've started doing that a couple years ago. I was tired of throwing out green onion, cilantro, parsley after a week. I also go through the cilantro, green onion etc every week to remove the bad parts and sometimes after a couple of weeks I change the paper towels if they get soiled.

@@barbra429 I don't wash the mushrooms until it's time to use them otherwise they go bad. Sometimes I give them a little wipe with the paper napkin to get any dirty bits off. Putting a napkin under them and loosely over them means they last twice as long in the fridge. No more throwing mushrooms out after 2 or 3 days.
I still have the same cilantro from when I posted the original comment!! Your technique really works well!! It's been a week! It's still fresh and crisp!
Great tips. I wash the cilantro and use a salad spinner to get the water out. The rest of the process is the same. Really stays fresh very long in the paper towels.

Thank you. This is truly helpful. I read somewhere that cilantro could be frozen, then used. I tried it. The cilantro was so soggy, I was very disappointed. Now I have a method for keeping it fresh.
I do exactly the same except that I wash it well and put it through a sieve for a few hours to drain any excess water ,and then put it in the fridge that way its always clean and ready to use.

I tried cleaning, picking out the bad, then cutting the ends then putting them in ajar of water like fresh cut flowers. This does work and looks pretty, but you need to trim the ends and change the water every few days. My onions, when left long enough would actually grow new sprouts! I’m going to try this method too. I have an apartment sized fridge, so space is limited, but I’ll try it anyway. Thank you for sharing! 😊
Thank you for your tip! I've been wondering what I can do to keep my cilantro and green onions from going bad so quickly. Now I know. I'm so happy that I came across your video 😊! Many thanks! 💕
I have been using a similar method for years, especially concerning lettuce, and it works. Iceberg lettuce is the worst, it will not last as long as romaine or leaf lettuce, but if you will wrap them loosely in paper towels and then wrap them loosely in a big ziplock bag (don't seal the bags, just wrap them around the lettuce, and put them in your vegetable drawer in the fridge, you will be surprised at how long they last. I can make romaine and leaf lettuce last for at least 2 weeks, and I currently have some endive in my fridge that is over 3 weeks old and I will use in a salad tomorrow...
This really works. I do slightly different. Like this video, I spread out the cilantro on a wood cutting board (dries better) leave it out for an hour or two turning it over a few times. My kitchen is cool and humid BTW, if ti s warmer times would be less. Once it is 90% dry it goes into zip lock bags in the frig veggie drawer. I only use paper towels if it is super wet and a cold day. A big bunch lasts me two weeks and is perfect until the end. I only remove black stuff. Thanks for sharing this!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. Today I bought 2 bunches because the previous 2 rotted within a few days and which is how I found your video. I cannot wait to see how this turns out. I will definitely let you know in 3 weeks, if they last that long because I pile it high when I have Pozole.
I couldn't wait any longer to let you know that this cilantro continues to be fresh and vibrant. I will most likely use it all up by Sunday when I will make a new batch of Pozole and buy more cilantro etc. This is a real game changer for this herb, as it used to rot by the 3rd day.
