    Thank you 1A Auto and Sue!! My wife's 2006 Ford Focus wagon was throwing random P0171 "lean bank" codes and then it started stalling at idle. I followed the instructions in this video, the manifold gasket video, and one from Craig's DIY Car and found a 1.5 inch crack in the PCV hose.
    - Don't drain the coolant unless you need to replace the coolant hose that runs past the PCV hose.
    - You can get the bottom bolt on the manifold without lifting the car.
    - The Focus manual says remove the fans and shroud. I didn't. But I did unbolt the fuel rail and pop the injectors and move the rail to get better access to the clip on the PCV hose. I was able to leave the fuel line connected.
    - I found a rare-earth magnet that fit in my 10mm socket. No more dropped bolts.
    - You need the extra long angled needle-nose that Sue uses like a surgeon's forceps.
    - Where Sue just presses on the electrical connector for the Intake Manifold Runner Control actuator, I had to use a right angle gasket pick at the top of the latch.
    - The PCV valve retainer ring cracks easily. Carefully pry up - and out - at the right locking tab with a thin tool.

    this woman knows the Mazda6 very well, and has put many men I know to shame. I've learned so much from watching her videos, and I've been able to do everything myself on my 07 Mazda because of her. She explains everything very well and in detail, and the camera is very clear and gets good shots of what she's doing. Sure things can be done a little different than the way she is doing it, but she is showing you the proper way to do it, and then that leads to other ways of doing things. Sometimes not doing it the proper way will work for some but not for others, so when you learn the proper way of doing things, you can branch off by doing it another way.

      @@donderfoil With tons of plastic fitting and clips inside the engine bay ( Including the whole manifold) that become brittle and break so easily. It can't be a good design. And on top, that much disassembling just to replace a simple PCV valve ? Not a smart design at all.

    Did a PCV valve, hose, intake and throttle body gaskets on a 2008 Mazda3 with the L3-VE 2.3L engine using this video as reference. Trickiest parts were removing the PCV valve from the plastic retaining piece without breaking it (used a small pocket knife), and getting the blind center intake bolt started (wedged cardboard in socket with bolt). I didn't remove the emission tube and was able to wriggle the intake up and out without issue. Didn't drain coolant and didn't lose much on the floor. Great video, couldn't have asked for a better preview of the job!

    I just did this. After disconnecting the throttle body just move it out of the way doesn't need disconnecting. Also when bolting it start with 2 on top and then the difficult one in the front that way in case you drop it you can take the intake manifold off to get it out. Also don't tighten the first two bolts I said all the way so you can see from the top when bolting the porthold bolt goes in correctly. Like other person commented use tape to tape the bolt to the ratchet socket.

    Really wanted to thank you for putting this together. This helped tremendously in replacing my knock sensor. I only wish I had seen this about 10 years ago when I had to figure everything out myself when the PCV when out. I played it safe this time and replaced the PCV and knock sensor during this go around.
    Just a comment to anyone that has a Mazda 6i 2003 Automatic 2.3L. The oil dipstick is attached to the intake manifold, and surprising enough the lower nut to this is the hardest part in the beginning. Do this as your very first step right after the coolant drain. Other than that follow this awesome instructional video as shown.

    Shame on Mazda for making simple servicing tasks so monumentally difficult and labor-intensive.

    Just finished doing this today on a 2006 Mazda 3 GT. Once I removed all 8 bolts, I was able to pull the intake manifold to give 4inches of space. This gave me just enough room to remove the PCV valve off and put a new hose in. Would it have been nicer to have the extra space to take it out and replace. Yes, yes it would.
    However, I did not want to remove all those harnesses and having to put them back as well did not seem appealing to me. It just increases the chance for error.
    You also don't need to drain the coolant. You can just remove the throttle body bolts and leave it connected to the coolant lines. If you want to clean the throttle body and don't want to drain the coolant. I left the car to cool down for a while. So when I took the lines out I didn't have any coolant left inside.
    Also, a tip for the most head banging, stupid, idiotic design placement for a bolt for the intake manifold (center one). Have those little magnet on the extendable sticks so you can place it in the hole and turn it just enough to thread it so you can take the magnet out and leave the bolt in. Made it so much easier and less of a mess!
    Have fun guys! Remember, patience is immensely required. T-T

    To my understanding, you should never open the throttle's butterfly manually if it's connected to power. Disconnected from the power you should be careful but it should be fine, this way you can clean it properly. I do have a Bachelors's degree in Automotive Technology but I don't have the experience this lady has. That being said, I have properly cleaned the Electronic throttle body in my 2010 Mazda 3 2.0i and it has been 5 plus years later and working fine. This service corrected a code for Idle Air Control - RPM Lower than Expected. I have also done the same service to a 2014 Mazda 3 2.5 and it still running great. My respects to the professional lady, this is a topic I would love to examine further.

    I am sorry but the whole purpose of cleaning the valve body is to clean the gunk between the butterfly (drosselklappe) and throttle body to allow a little gap. That gap is important for the proper air/fuel mixture. You can clean the body all day long but if you don't open the butterfly and clean the walls you did not do anything. No idea how exactly the [rocesses will affect performance afterward...The battery is disconnected so the ECU will relearn and adjust the throttle.
    Also, it is a must to replace fuel injector O-rings when removing the injectors, just like the intake and throttle body gaskets. They may seem fine but they are cheap and if they have been there for the life of the car chances are you will run into problems later.

      Oil in throttle body, if pcv is restricted it can cause excessive pressure in crankcase and cause oil leaks at pan and valve cover gaskets.

    • @petkoandreev7869
      @petkoandreev7869 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      A bad PCV valve will cause various problems with most major ones, oil leaks from weak engine gaskets and seals, increased crankcase pressure which if not addressed will ruin your engine, also excessive oil consumption due to the blowby if the valve is stuck open. It is a $10 part which Toyota, for example, has right there on top of the engine and it should be replaced every two or three oil changes. Unfortunately, I see Mazda has decided to go with a retarded design. Toyota - $15 part and 2 minutes labor (0 cost if DIY and maybe $20 if the mechanic will do it). Mazda - $15 part and half a day if you know what you are doing. (probably 500 bucks in labor)

    I was wondering isn't there some way you could get to the PCV valve and the PCV attached hose from underneath the car? It seems like you have to remove a lot of things doing it from the top.

    When the job was totally complete and the engine was restarted, did this initiate any fault codes and did you have to clear them or did they clear after driving the car for a period of time.
    In real time what time should be allocated for this job 90 minutes , 2 hoiurs, ?.
    Thanks
    John

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +John Kerr Depends on the skill level. Some might be an hour. Some might be an afternoon. For us, there were no codes because this valve needed to be replaced - which we used an obdII scanner to clear codes. You can also drive around 200 miles or so for the computer to reset and the light to go away. If the light doesn't go away, there may be another issue besides a bad PCV valve

    Hi.
    Is there a way to tell that your PCV valve is not functioning properly without disassembling everything like on the video, given that it actually consumes oil (not that much but still) and you can see the oil INSIDE the intake manifold (just saw it when I took off the throttle body)?
    Thank you so much for the video!

    now I understand why there is no vehicle theft like Mazda at least in my country to get and sell parts and units of this vehicle. The engineers who made this engine and its design should go to jail, often a problem disassembling parts to get to a tiny sensor.

    What I've done is kept the original PCB valve, honed it out and put extention hoses and a new PCB valve where I can access it to save me the trouble of all that work again, also add a breathable oil cap on top or make your own.azda built a great engine but put that stupid valve so low next to the oil level. The moment a little oil pressure starts to build it starts to pump oil out I to you intake costing a fortune to fix, so you would sell it and buy another new one I guess according to Mazda🤦🏼‍♂️
