    My coworker had 3 of these Mercedes Benz 300D sedans. They were plentiful in the San Fernando Valley around 2005-2020 and cheap! Most had about 50-70k miles to start. Barely broken in for a diesel. She’d drive them until something major happened. Very comfortable!
    PS - Epic to see Hoovie get mouth full of dust and mouse poo.

    Outside of the mice and a bit of rust, seems like a pretty solid car. Could make for a good project car for someone to clean up. A solid base there to start with for whoever buy sit.

    Oh wow! Bob, I would buy it in a minute if I was in the country…. That is a jewel. It started easily because of the low miles and probably some decent maintenance. Great compression!

  • @joe6096
    @joe6096 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I kind of follow the Mercedesource guy, and if there's anything I've learned from him, is that you cannot kill these motors. Literally. Because he had one where a valve spring broke and was jammed into the cylinder and it STILL started, ran, and ran at almost full power. They could not figure out what the weird noise was until they completely tore the block apart. They found the connecting rod was bent because a broken valve spring got logged in the cylinder.
    Yet it still started, started cold and hot, ran, and drove up to 70 on the highway. And the odometer had stopped at 250,000 miles years ago.

    Great looking car Bob. I had one years ago and I really enjoyed it. My main issue was the glacial slowness. Once it was up to speed it was great but getting there was an experience. I sold mine to a gentleman who had a small collection as a daily driver for his mechanic. He still owns it and it's probably been 20yrs since I sold it to him

    • @euroasianbob9268
      @euroasianbob9268  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Was it turbo?

    • @mjc8248
      @mjc8248 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, it ran great but coming from V8 daily drivers it was pretty sketchy getting on the freeway. We had a lot of freeway entrances that have pretty short on ramps. I owned an auto repair shop at the time and used the car to shuttle customers back and forth.
      EDIT - It would have been in the mid to late 90's and a lot of us were still driving 70's cars, lol.

    These cars were capable of driving well over a million kms without any engine work done. Here in Europe these were THE taxi cars that were used everywere. I live in The Netherlands and back in the 80s tonnes of these w123 models were driving around,most were the 200,220 or 240D models. They're still very popular today and regarded as the best models Mercedes Benz ever made. This car will outlive the modern crap that towed the trailer by a huge marging,since these cars were made to drive AND be fixed when needed. Enjoy it,great buy and with these miles barely run in

      The locks are vacuum operated and if anything goes wrong it’s a cinch to trace and replace. They pretty much have to be subjected to some harsh elements to fail, like salt, oils, fuels, solvents of any kind, or constant moisture.

  • @Marklin15
    @Marklin15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The spare tire was definitely old but it wasn’t one of the factory tires. Hopefully you don’t find more rust as you often do the deeper you dig into these cars. You probably want to remove the old aftermarket alarm as I did on mine to eliminate potential electrical problems.

    This kind of loading onto a trailer would NEVER happen here. It can cause lot more damage instead of doing it right by lifting it up with a crane.

    According to Babvvo and Tebbvo laws, sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-(
    In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
    on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime!!!!!!!
