    I bought a 95 e-320 out of a barn about two years ago for three hundred. Six hundred dollars and two months later I licenced it and have been driving it since. It's got 228,000 on it and it's one of the best cars I have ever owned. Good buy on this one!

    Merry Christmas Ike and John, this is another great addition to your fleet of unique autos, back in the late 80's when i worked for Volvo here in Canada in sales and leasing i took a number of these in on trade and some pretty minty condition and one stood out in particular, it was a white 300TD wagon with the tan interior with around 300kms, 186k miles, for analyst 10 yr old car, it was a gem, 100 % dealer serviced and ran and functioned 100% every single feature in the car worked right down to the power antenna and after we had cleaned it up for sale in the used car dept, I took it home for a long weekend trip and it sat on the highway happily at 65 mph hour for us and got over 30mpg Canadian with 4 of us in the car and burned a single tank of diesel, man what comfortable car and the A/C blew good and cold the only things we had to do with the car for safety was a leaky front caliper on the passenger side and new front pads fluid changes and front shocks , the clear coat was flaking in some spots so we had it redone and the car looked so crazy good and did not take long to sell at all , a guy from the country like it, bought it and drove it to over half a million kilometres before he sold it and bought another car from us, he loved it and said it never failed to start ever as long as the block heater was plugged in during the winter and our winters hit -25 to 30 regularly here in central Canada 👍

    My friend just bought one in central Portugal, 130,000 miles it is in almost mint condition........ we also had problems with interior heater and radio not working, it has play in the ignition barrel, if we turn the key back a tiny amount the heater works, new ignition and wiring needed....... you bought a great car

  • @marcd5353

    Definitely the ignition switch! Didn't look like anything electronic turned on when you hit it, just the engine. Guarantee that's why that new switch was in there! Cool car!

    I had an 82 300 Turbo Coupe loved it with over 200,000 on it and was doing great till I loaned it to a business partner for a Wedding he put Unleaded gas in it. I sold it to my Mechanic who was A German Citizen to be rebuilt for his son. Speedometer going to 85 I broke a few cables. Loved it. We lived in Phoenix Az so the A/C Compressor was rebuilt almost every summer

    I've always loved those cars. My old boss had one for a few years. It wasn't a turbo and was pretty slow but it was an amazing car. You can put a layer or 2 of fiberglass on the dash to cover the cracks then paint it black and nobody will give it a second thought.

    Cool car. I seriously thought it was brown. Must have been sitting awhile. Hopefully, we will see more of this car. I think this year/style is the one I like the best. These cars were new when I was a kid. Brings back memories. Got to drive one once. Was about the same year and model. Real comfortable car to ride around in. Sadly, they are known for electrical gremlins, even today.

    i remember in germany in the mid 80s these were used as taxis. what a bargain! a little TLC, and this will be a sweet ride. i'd hang on to it for a while and make it my daily. at least for 30,000 miles. that will give you time to work out all the bugs, but still won't be seriously cutting into the useable miles this is capable of.

    Very nice score... I seem to recollect that very era car running in the Paris Dakkar rallye a few years with that engine and drivetrain back in the late 70s earler 80s.. Trunk lid was removed and several mud terrain tires were strapped in side by side in the trunk with 4 mud terrains all around the auto and huge Hella off road lights replacing the stocks as well as the driving lamps as well as fender mounted Hellas... Bulletproof doesn't describe those autos.. Million miles isn't unusual for that engine or manual transmissions and the autos have been known to go half a million with zero issues as well... That'd be my date night ride once all cleaned up and made nice inside again...

    I recently picked up a 1980 300sd. 252k. Sat for 6 years. Previos owners running vegetable oil or whatever. Flushed out new fuel filter a couple hoses got it to start. Did a valve adjustment which really helped it come around. Along with just running clean fuel with some injector cleaner. .. and those electrical gremlins are annoying. Mine has wipers when it feels like. Only 2 windows. Flashers when they wanna work. Glow plugs when they wanna work. But heck the first time i got it started it was 27 degrees with no glow plugs. And before valve adjustments gummed up injectors. Probably still had rubbish in the fuel lines.

    If this engine has oil it will run. I have driven an 84 and an 85. Both had about 500k miles on the clock. Both would roast the tires through first into second gear and hit 100mph on the highway.

    • @price8314
      @price8314 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What sorta om617 do you have?!! These things will not do 100 mph downhill or burn the tires off into second. Hell they won't break the tires free except in rain or ice. That was an awfully bold uneducated statement to claim of what these cars can do..😂

    There are guys in the UK who modify these engines and extract over 500hp out of the OM606. The engines are also used for transplant into other vehicles. There are race engines using almost stock components at 1000hp, basically a turbo swap and injector work.

    • @price8314
      @price8314 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This isn't a om606, you can't get much more than 200-220 reliably at the wheels from a om617 before you bend the rods. The 617 only makes 58 hp at the tire, 40 years ago, probably less now.

    the great thing about mechanical diesel, there are no safety requirements on the engine that has to be met in order to start them. if it has fuel and compression well then it will start after a few cranks, no need to build oil pressure or anything like that before it will fire. I once saw a video of a guy doing cold starts that had a Mechanical tdi and an etdi. If i recall right it was at -10c or something like that. The mtdi would crank a few times and start, roughly but it started right away, the etdi though took close to a solid minute to start
