his 76 Chevy Pickup is part of the Chevy C/K line of trucks. It is part of the third generation of these trucks started in 1960. The C stands for 2 wheels drive and the K for 4 wheel drive. This 3rd gen. line was a complete redesign of earlier C/K trucks and was referred to by enthusiasts as the “Square Body”.
The redesign was noteworthy in 2 important areas, aerodynamics and safety improvements. The new body shape was more “rounded” and featured a raked back windshield. The safety improvements included a collapsible steering column and a combined lap + shoulder seat belts. The truck was offer with choice of bed styles, “Fleetside” or “Stepside”. This model features the classic “Stepside” fender design.
Detailed 4 x 4 suspension with front front guard
    Full Chevy V-8 engine detail
    Roll over bar with spotlights
Molded in white and clear with chrome plated parts and soft black tires.
The C/K was Chevrolet's full-size pickup truck line from October 1959 until 2002 in the United States, from 1964 to 2001 in Brazil, and from 1975 to 1982 in Chile. From 1959 to 1987, C/K was also the name of GMC's truck series; it switched to the name Sierra from 1988 to 1999 while sharing the C/K platform. The first Chevrolet pickup truck was introduced in 1924, though in-house designs did not appear until 1930. "C" indicated two-wheel drive and "K" indicated four-wheel drive. The aging C/K light-duty pickup truck was replaced with the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra names in 1999 in the United States and Canada, and 2001 in Brazil; the Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD heavy-duty pickup trucks followed. Until this time, the names Silverado and Sierra were used to identify the trim level of the C/K trucks.
    Third generation 1973-1987
An all-new clean sheet redesign of General Motors' Chevrolet and GMC brand C/K-Series pickups debuted in mid-1972 for the 1973 model year. Development of the new third-generation trucks began in 1968 with vehicle components undergoing simulated testing on computers before the first prototype pickups were even built for real world testing.[16] The redesign was revolutionary in appearance at the time, particularly the cab, departing from typical American pickup truck designs of the era. Aside from being near twins, the Chevrolet and GMC pickups looked like nothing else on the road.[17] The third-generation trucks are colloquially known as the "Square-body" or "Box-body" generation.[18][19][20][21] GM's official "Rounded-Line" moniker highlighted the pickup's rounded styling cues that were incorporated into the design. This included rounded windshield corners, rounded corners of the cab roof, rounded-corner doors which cut high into the cab roof eliminating roof height, slanted front fenders, and rounded pickup box corners which allowed for rounded wraparound taillamps, a first for GM pickups. The design also featured strong distinctive curved shoulderlines which rounded out below the beltline.[18] The curved shoulderline continued across the back tailgate on Chevrolet Fleetside and GMC Wideside models. However, the low slope of the hood and rectangular front end of the truck originated the "square/box-body" nickname, which was propagated through truck magazines and word of mouth.
GM's design engineers fashioned the "Rounded-line" exterior in an effort to help improve aerodynamics and fuel efficiency, using wind tunnel technology to help them sculpt the body.[22] Other design traits include sleek sculpted body work, an aerodynamic cab with steep windshield rake, and a unique available hidden radio antenna embedded into the windshield glass.[18][23][24]
There were two types of pickup boxes to choose from. The first type, called Fleetside by Chevrolet and Wideside by GMC, was a full width pickup box and featured a flared shoulderline to complement the cab in addition to rounded box corners and the new aforementioned rounded wraparound taillamps. Both steel and wood floors were available. The second type, called Stepside by Chevrolet and Fenderside by GMC, was a narrow width pickup box featuring steps and exposed fenders with standalone tail lamps. Initially, only wood floors were available.[25]
The wheelbase length was extended to 117.5 in (2,985 mm) for the short wheelbase pickups, and 131.5 in (3,340 mm) for the long wheelbase pickups. A new dual rear wheel option called "Big Dooley" was introduced on one-ton pickups, along with a new Crew Cab option on the 164.5 in (4,178 mm) wheelbase. An optional Elimipitch camper was made available for the Big Dooley.[26] Crew Cabs were available on C30 pickup and chassis cab, and K20 chassis cab models in two versions: a "3+3" which seated up to six occupants and "bonus cab" which deleted the rear seat and added rear lockable storage in its place.

I built this kit in high school...then took it apart and redid it as a fully detailed, lowered, 2WD street machine. Was one of my models I was most proud of, I still have it somewhere.

Same here I'm 42 years old now and when I was a kid in the late 1980's my dad had an orange and white 1976 Chevy pickup truck.. only thing it wasn't a stepside his was a long bed fleet side and it had the hubcaps instead of the rally mag wheels..i like that body style myself..1973-1987 and the 1988-1999 is my favorite body style too 😀😀👍👍

This is SWEEEEET! Please, Chris, replace the garage backdrop with the AMT garage kits you've built! All those accessories and the figure kits will make any vehicle you make come alive! Don't get me wrong, the photo backdrop is really cool, but the diorama look will give any car or truck a level of realism that will inspire more guys to buy those kits! Keep 'em coming, brother, you totally ROCK!

I bought 2 from Model Roundup when they were released. I remember these trucks on the dealer lots. Tried my best to get my dad to buy one! I have always loved this 'sport' version and so thrilled Revell made a fantastic kit for all of us to enjoy! I have also researched this sport version in detail. They were available in 4 factory colors with matching color interiors. The windshield had stainless steel moulding vs the black only in the model build. The grill was a mix of a silver insert and outlined in chrome. Similar for the wheels. The trim rings and center caps being chrome and the wheel itself silver paint. I would call the one in the video a custom vs factory build. Just do a little search if you want a factory truck. I'm painting mine blue metallic...one of the factory colors. I will probably leave the 'orange peel' in the paint just the way Chevrolet did it! LOL I own a real '74 SWB C10. I will take the grill from the other kit and build a fleetside SWB of my truck. I may buy a few more copies of this one just to stash. The '73/'74 grilles were different vs later years and you can't find these 'sport' decals anywhere. Enjoyed the video and learned a few things to try on mine.

I have had a similar experience, with the Rust-Oleum colonial red paint that I used;tterplicate the box art.The Rust-Oleum colonial red paint had shrunk;and wrinkled, after applying several mist coats of the Rust-Oleum gloss clear;even after allowing the paint to dry for a week;when I painted the 90" sleeper cab of my GMC Astro 95 COE tractor,by AMT.I had to use paint stripper to strip the black preshade/basecoat;and the red top coat, and re-paint the sleeper cab. After letting the paint dry for a week I applied several coats of Pledge Floor Gloss (PFG) (Formerly Future Floor Polish, and Pledge Floor Care Multi-surface Finish);and then I took a 3/4 oz. Bottle of Testors gloss coat;and a paint brush, and hand brushed the 90" sleeper cab;in preparation of applying the Associated Truck Lines decals.Because Round 2's decals are temperamental;and are prone to disintegrating,I will be using Micro Scale's two part decal solvent system;Micro Sol,and Micro Set to get the decals to settle down into the contours;and recesses,of the sleeper cab.

I like those generation Chevrolet & GMC fullsize pickups. The real ones were produced from 1973 - 1991 except the half ton & three quarter ton plain cabs were finished in 1987 & the one ton plain cabs were finished in 1989.

I remember the old man’s stepside. He had a 4x4 194 in-line six and three on the tree. Pretty sure he kept having to adjust the shift mechanism so he added a floor shift. It was a little ratty but I liked it a lot. Wish I took pictures of it.

I really appreciate that! This is all here to show everyone that modeling can once again be a FUN past time hobby without freaking out about rivets and perfect paint and getting every detail to match the real thing down to factory air in tires.
I hope people go out and get a kit and spend a weekend on it and enjoy what they made with their hands! If they want to make every detail perfect, that's cool too, but it's all about the FUN here.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a nice comment!

I've gotten burned by Krylon Fusion before on a model--literally! It burned the plastic on a 1/16 scale Mustang I built once. I haven't used it on a model since. It might say it works on plastic, but it doesn't seem to work on _our_ plastic.
Your usual Rustoleum 2X stuff works fantastic though, so I've been sticking with that for solid colors. Love that it's $3 a can, too.

Woow, fantastic looking kit, and finish! So much awesomeness to look at, Im not sure where to start! Great job on this little beauty! You mentioned using Future floor polish at the 17 minute mark. I did a little research, and found out Future and Pledge are both going under a new name, 'Pledge floor care'- just in case any other builder was looking for it (like i was). Keep up the wonderful work, I can't tell you enough what an inspiration you've been to returning builders like me- I've been trying some of your tricks and techniques with EXCELLENT success! :)
