    Order the AMT 1965 #Chevelle Malibu #Surf #Wagon today from Modelroundup.com
    www.modelroundup.com/1965-Che...
The Chevrolet Chevelle is a mid-sized automobile which was produced by Chevrolet in three generations for the 1964 through 1977 model years. Part of the General Motors (GM) A-Body platform, the Chevelle was one of Chevrolet's most successful nameplates. Body styles include coupes, sedans, convertibles and station wagons. Super Sport versions were produced through the 1973 model year, and Lagunas from 1973 through 1976. After a four-year absence, the El Camino was reintroduced as part of the new Chevelle lineup in 1964. The Chevelle also provided the platform for the Monte Carlo introduced in 1970. The Malibu, the top of the line model through 1972, completely replaced the Chevelle nameplate for the redesigned, downsized 1978 model year.
The automobile marketplace was changing significantly during the early 1960s and became highly competitive in the smaller-sized car segments.[4] The domestic Big Three automakers (General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler) were responding to the success of American Motors' compact Rambler American and Classic models that made AMC the leading maker of small cars for several years and increasing Rambler on the 1961 domestic sales charts to third-place behind Chevrolet and Ford.[5] The innovative Chevrolet Corvair and the Chevy II, which was designed to compete with Ford's Falcon, were losing ground.[6] Ford released the mid-sized Fairlane in 1962, to which Chevrolet responded with the 1964 Chevelle based on a new A platform design.[6] Riding on a 115-inch (2,900 mm) wheelbase, the new Chevelle was similar in size, simplicity, and concept to the standard-sized 1955-1957 Chevrolet models.[6] The Chevelle was the U.S. auto industry's only all-new car for 1964 and was positioned to fill the gap between the small Chevy II and the full-sized Chevrolet models.[7] Introduced in August 1963 by "Bunkie" Knudsen, the Chevelle filled the gap for Chevrolet with sales of 338,286 for the year.[8]Two-door hardtop coupes, and convertibles, four-door sedans, and four-door station wagons were offered throughout the entire run. This also included a coupe utility (El Camino) which was a derivative of the two-door wagon. In line with other Chevrolet series, the two-door hardtops were called Sport coupes. Four-door hardtops, dubbed Sport Sedans, were available (1966 through 1972). A two-door station wagon was available in 1964 and 1965 in the base 300 series. Station wagons were marketed with exclusive nameplates: Greenbrier (previously used with the Corvair based vans), Concours, and Concours Estate. Six-cylinder and V8 power was offered across the board. Chevelles were also assembled and sold in Canada. While similar to their stateside counterparts, the convertible was available in the base Chevelle series, a model never offered in the United States. The Chevelle was the basis for the Beaumont, a retrimmed model sold only in Canada by Pontiac dealers through 1969. Originally conceived as an upsizing of the Chevy II with a unibody platform (similar to the Fairlane and the full-size Chrysler B-platform of the same era) which originated with the XP-726 program, GM's "senior compact" A-platform used a body-on-frame construction using a suspension setup similar to its full sized automobiles with a four-link rear suspension (the differential has four control arms which are attached to the frame with rear coil springs sandwiched between the differential and spring pocket-this design was used with the B platform vehicles and later used by Ford Motor Company with its FOX platform automobiles).

I like that they make the body in one piece. That's why I like to use them for vintage style slotcars.

Back in the early 70's my cousin built a ski boat and he bought one of those Chevy station wagons to haul it around with. It was cool and it was almost the same color green as your review model. It was sandy on the inside and always loaded with water ski's, life preservers and the big ice chest full of liquid refreshment. It had a 327 and hauled that boat like nothing was there. He always had the outside shining though as it looked good with chrome rims and he painted his boat trailer to match the Chevy. Great review, brings back fond memories.

I too received a 1965 Chevy Malibu station wagon from my mother in-law when we got married. Only it was in white complete with dog dish hub caps and black wall recap tires. I don't have the car or the wife any more, although as I recall the car lasted longer than the wife did.

I built this from the RC-2 era issue. The spring-metal clip for the hood was missing then, too...they had that same feature for the '65 GTO. I used the stock wheels, but added a set of older redline Firestones....I do wish they'd retool/update that kit, but it still builds up nice.

Mom-Mobile. Everybody hated being seen in it with MOM. But nobody wanted to miss it when she drove off! Dang Chris, this is a fine example of daily driver stuff. I dig the story that "goes with" the build. It helps define the details and even the colors. Nice work sir. And you make very challenging tasks easy as you pass along the tips.

I saw the movie, GREASE'' in the theater, when It came out in 78'... I was 10. Fascinated by cars then.. In the early 80's, I worked my first job as a dish washer on Saturday afternoons, and Sunday mornings after Church'...
Had some money! So, I purchased a 1946 Ford Convertable, and a 1957 Chevy models.. They were $5.00 then! And I bashed them together, and made 'Grease Lightning'! Frenched and chopped' the front fenders, chopped up the 57'.. And glued and blended the rear fenders in.. And used Automotive Bondo' cause there was no access to hobby putty for me at that time.. I was 14... Looked Great! Fire Engine Red! No clear hood though...
To this day,.. I still haven't seen any Model Company make 'Grease Lightning'..! Sorry, watching this brought back some memories..
    Great work!

Just want to thank you again for the work you put into your builds and videos. Its been over ten years since I done a kit. I ordered Revell Germany's 747-8 Cargolux in 144th scale. Another splendid build-up ! Now , I'd be remiss if I'd failed to mention that *California* vehicles *do* *rust* ! Especially vehicles near the beach (all of that salty air and moisture) . I've lived here in southern Cali my entire 50 years , so I can attest to vehicles being only 3-5 years old and rust forming around the windshield , backlite , sunroof , tailgate , fuel filler , etc. , etc. --- they rust from the top-down .
I'm not telling you that in an attempt to bust your chops ; I just wanted to dispel the old wives' tale regarding rust and California vehicles .
Keep up the great , fun work , Chris !

I'd buy this kit just for the boards, I just finished the AMT 34 Ford pick-up as a Tiki surf truck, I would love to build this wagon to go with it. Nice build, love the look. Nothing wrong with these older kits they just need some extra love. Surfs Up Dude!!

As an added detail, the base of the roof rack was usually a suction cup.... so the round portion of the roof rack base should be flat black! As me how I know!!

damn your popular...i can see why...i just watched at least 7 of your clips in a row. This one is the best so far ( the Pinto was dope too ). Me, being from a so cal surf area, really enjoyed the story of the cars provenance. Great look... you killed it with the stickers and the surf boards were equally impressive. Worn in cars are my favorite. I'm currently working on a 1/25 scale AMT Crew Chief body for a 1/24 scale crawler r.c.
I will definitely be borrowing some of your techniques. Thank you and keep up the great work.

Cool storyline for a good looking model. I would love to see you get a few of each of the 2/3 in 1 kits and see how you build each variation. I did a 65 riviera for my wifes boss. Stock and matched to his car. But it came with so many options I am tempted to do it again with more of the extras.
