I kind of regret installing some of the poly Energy suspension parts so when it came to the leaf spring bushings and shackles I went Moog. I may switch back to rubber on some of the Energy stuff, it's squeaky and kind of stiff, I've heard race car guys use it sometimes, or maybe rock crawling? maybe it's good with those applications but I'm not impressed with the ride compared to stock. After replacing the leaf bushings it may be a lot better and dealable but I may switch back to stock esp if I can find moog parts. Thanx for the vid, I borrowed the ball joint tool from the counter so hopefully I'll be able to remove and replace these. It's an '88 and the bushings look original so I'm sure it's gonna be fun! I'm gonna do what you did and add lots of antiseize for the next guy. If we all did that the world would be such a better place I'm down for a movement lol.
I'm rebuilding/replacing all the suspension on my 56 Chevy, before I put engine, trans, etc back in the car. So I guess I will write it on the wall somewhere in my shop to tighten the bushing bolts later?? ;)
Yes you want to tighten it with the car fully loaded. What I do is hang painters tape from the things or on top of the things I need to remember. The blue always gets my attention.
I dont agree on the bushing torque. other than the sway bar links all of the bushings have a inner tube that the bolt slides in to,the tube is longer than the bushing so unless the bolt presses in to the tube it will always spin inside the tube and the bushing will not ever torque. Now your leaf spring video was very educational.
GEARBOX GARAGE I like the exchange. So if I tighten the bolt, the two sides on the shackle will pinch that sleeve, correct? That’s where it keeps it from spinning on the bolt. Why else would the sleeve be notched on the ends? Same with poly. The sleeve turns in the poly, not the bolt right? I could be wrong.
@@MattsGarage tighten the nut will make the sides of the shackle and bolt/nut become "one" but....... Ha I am wrong lol ,and I just did a leaf spring lift for a customer and I even did a video on it. I commented that over tighten the bolts effected the movement of the parts greatly.
@@MattsGarage I currently have an issue with my personal jeep springs which lead me down this rabbit hole and I have to film it and then edit both videos, hopefully by monday it will posted
I know that Total Chaos Fab explicitly says to always tighten with vehicle weight for the control arm bushings. They even put a video together to explain this, because people were destroying bushings and complaining to them ha!
A better way to remove them is to heat the housing cherry red....... put them in a vice and use another bushing about the same size. They will slide out !

Thank you great video helpful my truck came with Rancho 9000 but has no bushings in any of the shocks
thanks so far the easyest way i have sean so far and your using a ball joint press in a vise that is so great i like it thanks
Where do I put the big leaf spring attached to the eye! My 8 year old isn’t strong enough to hold it up!!🤔🤣
Nice video. Was wondering if its okay to press the bushing on the interior ring? Thanks
its not, needs to be the outer ring
Great video
ah ye mate i love me a good fresh bush
What’s the offical name for that tool you’re using? I must purchase one for my project car, I’m also in Australia 👍 Cheers
Search for ABN Ball joint press. I used to live in Australia, in Perth. What part are you in?
@@MattsGarage I live in Mandurah WA. Not a bad spot to be ☀️👍😊 Thank you.

Hey I went to your channel but don't see a leaf spring video. Which on is it?

It's a ball joint press.
What's the actual sleeve bushing called I need one
As far as I know it’s just called a suspension bushing
A better way to remove them is to heat the housing cherry red....... put them in a vice and use another bushing about the same size. They will slide out !
I didn’t consider the preload on the bushing thanks
WOW!!!
Factory rubber bushings do not have enough movement or give false spring rate, No full range of motion, that’s why I chose poly bushings.
How about less talking and more work
