Thank you for this FYI for VQ people. I had no idea this is a known issue. I am in the middle of replacing my thermostat, hoses and coolant. I will be certain to get the aluminum connector! See link below. 2010 G37s coupe: 71,000 orig miles.
I just changed this plastic connector on a 2013 G37 for an aluminum one with a bleeder. I used a Dorman 47291 connector that is easily available. If you are just replacing this connector you don't need to drain anything. Obviously wait until the car is cold then simply plug the coolant filler so no air can get in. You can't use the regular cap for this because it will vent air or coolant from the plastic reservoir back into the system once you open the system and you will then be dealing with a gusher. Put an old towel under the connector as you won't lose any more than a few ounces of coolant at most. I was able to do this without too much cursing by removing just the engine cover. Once replaced I opened the bleeder and very slightly unseated the plug on the coolant filler and the bleeder instantly filled with coolant. I then put on a burping funnel but really didn't need it as so very little coolant was lost and the bleeder worked like a charm.
My connector blew on the freeway about a month ago I just finished replacing it today and topped the coolant off but the car’s temperature keeps going high and there is no leaks, any suggestions?
@@tajmirkahmed4946 likely you still have air in the system. Check out how to bleed the coolant for G37 on TH-cam. The 3.7 is a pain in the @$$ to purge.
@@tajmirkahmed4946 Go through the procedure of bleeding the air from the system, use a burp funnel as directed and have the front end lifted higher than the rear. Watch your temp gauge and if it goes higher than normal shut it down to let it cool off and hopefully burp some more air before trying again. I believe that you have just enough air still trapped in the system that is preventing the thermostat from opening. Take your time, have patience and you will be successful.
Yup mined is a 2008 ex35 (vq35hr)and sure enough the connector peice one day while heat was on sent a puff of smoke from right side up under my hood, did it twice then went away as i was in motion, turned heat off immediately, long story short 2 weeks later due to leak always drying before i can find it, parked it on a hill turned heat on and BAM leaking at connector, baught extra hoses and things but literally only connector peice literally snapped in half and was brittle and broke apart as i was taking it apart..... took a good hour to 2 to do so cause i shouldve purchased long needle nose pliers.....but yea problem fixed!
There is a specific bleeding procedure. I don';t see the bleeder valve on this model that all G35s have. First step is to raise the front end higher. Buy an EPAuto funnel kit on Amazon.
Just finished doing this. Unfortunately some of the old cracked plastic coupler fell down the pipe. Do you know if that is something i should be concerned about? thanks.
Hey so this video was very helpful... I plan on doin this same work this week to my infiniti g35.. will coolant harm anything once you pull the hose ls out.???? I will have somethin to catch it..
If the hose connected to the engine is good, you don’t have to remove it, but if you’re replacing the plastic piece that goes between the two hoses ..... make sure not to get plastic in the hose cause it will go in the engine
Alfredo Alvarado no way, you’re gonna need a good small flash light ...... some looong hose clamp pliers and that’s it.... also lots of patience ....so do this in the shade with plenty of time available. There’s a clip holding the hose on to the engine, you’ll have to scoot the clip down and remove the hose. Make sure to remove all the stuff I removed in the video to get a good view of where you need to go with the pliers. You got this man, be patient and stay focused
I have to get inside the dash so i can replace the plastic pipe that broke in half in between the firewall.... yup... so here comes 10 hours of screws and focus
did you replace both hoses? I only saw that you were talking about the one that goes into the firewall but what about the one that does the opposite way of the connector.
Ulises Rosas the other one that goes to the motor is a bitch, lucky for me I didn’t have to do that one. If you have to do it, get the longest pliers I suggested in the video... they will be of use to you !
jake smith I got the short 90 for the clamp against the fire wall, for the one on the engine you need the super long pliers... you’ll feel crazy buying them if you need them but when you use them it makes life way easier
Yup, that’s exactly what happened to me. I randomly saw Service Engine Soon come up and then all of the sudden I saw steam coming up from under the hood, and my car was acting funny and wouldn’t shift so I had to pull over right away, this way it didn’t overheat the engine. So close 😮💨
In a bind that could work to get you home, but definitely don’t ever just run it on water ! If you ever have to do that , coolant flush when you get home. It’s not hard at all, just gotta get under the car and remove the drain plug for the coolant and add your new coolant.
Nehemiah Nelson yo, check out “enthusiast auto care”. He has a video on the full coolant exchange and bleeder locations. Video is called infinity G37 coolant service . Sorry I can’t personally be more helpful but this is a job I set for later not gonna a lie lol

@@erth2man thanks man I got it to work no more overheating and the heat coming out warm finally
Did as you said, and all all is good... Thank you very much, for sharing...

Z1 has a bleeder valve connector but it's like 45 dollars after taxes and idk if I really need it or not

Just happened to me in a parking lot! Fml!!!!!
Just finished doing this. Unfortunately some of the old cracked plastic coupler fell down the pipe. Do you know if that is something i should be concerned about? thanks.
Did you have to bleed your car after this ?
What happens if it keeps overheating? I didnt do the flush just added coolant
Might have debris in the coolant system from broken plastic
I had a question the holes for the coolant were do they go mine got lose
Do you have to drain the coolant first?

My hose that connects to the back of the engine is ripped taking everything off that you said I can replace it like that without taking off the engine

What are the hoses called
Did you have to drain your radiator?
Are those 45degree or 90 degree bent head pliers
jake smith I got the short 90 for the clamp against the fire wall, for the one on the engine you need the super long pliers... you’ll feel crazy buying them if you need them but when you use them it makes life way easier
Did yours come with a bleeder? Mine is leaking right there
Buy a new one on EBAY or get the Z1 which is all metal.
Can it throw a check engine because of that hose
Most definitely, check all your fluids !

Mannn does this car not have a bleeder valve?
Milo R I know what you’re talking about , that’ll help me bleed the air? I thought it just drained the coolant out.
Nehemiah Nelson there’s a few bleeder valves, they’re just not in plain site.
