I think it works the same way the MLP universe does, where characters really only wear clothes for special occasions (ex: Cadence and Shining Armour’s wedding, the grand galloping gala, Twilight’s coronation, etc), or holidays like for Hearts warming day or nightmare night (which is basically the MLP versions of Christmas and Halloween), or for their jobs like the wonderbolt outfits. They might also simply wear some sort of accessory simply for fashion purposes like how Rarity does. Ponies in the show will also sometimes wear winter attire whenever it’s cold out possibly to keep them warmer, and when it’s hotter out they opt for no clothing. And it’s possible dogs in the Blueyverse who hold positions of power may wear articles of clothing to signify that, just like how alicorn Princesses in MLP often wear shoes, crowns, and necklaces to signify their rank. The other reasons dogs might wear clothes is usually for specific reason like a dog who is very fluffy might wear a raincoat, or a black dog wearing reflective gear at night, or dogs living where the ground gets very hot wearing shoes, or dogs in competitions getting dressed in outfits. All these scenarios would translate into the bluey world as times the dogs wear clothing like protective gear or dressing (scrubs, raincoats, hats, shoes, workout gear, dressing up, onesies, jumpers, tutus, etc).
My dog's are fashionistas and not just because I wanted to put clothes on a dog. My older dog is a double coated dog who was shaved and unfortunately this leaves her very cold in the winter. So I have a variety of jackets and stuff for her. Well, my younger dog wanted to wear clothes because he saw my older dog wearing them so he also has a variety of clothes. They have jackets, bandanas, shirts, and formal wear because if they already wear clothes you feel more willing to buy your dog a dress for New Year's Eve.

In Bluey's society (at list in my perception) since there are no indecency codes the garments you use are completely optional in casual life (like Indy wearing a vest). But in some jobs and special occasions, wearing an uniform is etiquette (like the workers in Hammerbarn, the tradies or Alfie working at the toy store) or in the second case at weddings, funerals and those kind of events, same thing for sports In conclusion: For casual use, it’s a choice; for formal use, it’s a rule

When I was an older teenager (like Senior Year), we had an Australian exchange student who joined my book club (we didn't read, we wrote) and she asked me why I had two washing machines. That's where I initially learned that they don't use dryers in Australia. That Australian exchange student is now my partner and as long as we're living in a place where it's warm and dry (so not where we live now) we use clothes lines. I also have adopted loads of Aussie words.

My experience (england) my apartment only came fitted with my washer not a dryer so we have to use a clothes rack in our kitchen. In alot of cases its a money saving thing too
I am from Germany and we put our clothes too on a string line, especially during spring til autumn when the sun is out. In Winter time it makes sense for our cold and rainy weather not to put things up on a line, only execptaions are if you have a roof over it or hanging it up in the basement. My gran used to have a huge place in the basement where she put up her clothes on a line as she was living in an apartment without a garden.

The reason why I watch Bluey is a sorta mixture of comforting my inner child and learning to parent. I'm currently 24 and for a very long time I didn't want or like the idea of having children, only because I genuinely thought that the horrible childhood I had with my parents (ie. them splitting up with the constant arguing when I was eight or so, the drug abuse, having to take care of my younger siblings when I was 10-12 because they didn't care for us at the time...) Was normal and I believed that when I had children one day, it'd be a horrible experience. When I found Bluey on Tiktok I just sorta watched it to see what the hype was but it blew me out of the water completely to see how tender and cute the show is. The fact taught me that being a child at heart wasn't always a bad thing (Like when Bandit or Chili played with the girls) or how to handle a deep and heavy conversation like death (Episode Copycat). It's a really sweet show and I'd recommend it to anyone who has yet to see it. I started watching it a few months ago and I feel so much better about the idea of kids... Genuinely I'm excited and I want to be a good mom like Chili when I and my Fiancee settle down and try for children one day. Bluey will certainly be playing for our kiddos so we can have those sweet moments one day too. :)

With regards to underwear, I think THAT is for medical based reasons like bum worms or "that time of the month" or some other instance where it's overly messy, "downstairs".
I see it to be the same as the "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" show. They only wear clothing for a job, special occasion, or as a fashion statement.
In the episode where Bluey and Bandit find the injured budgie and take it to the vet. The vet is seen only wearing a top, no pants or skirt or any type of bottom. But when Bingo is in the hospital, the doctor and nurse have full tops and bottoms.

I Have a Theory, I think the clothes they do wear is for the little kids to know what they work at. For example the doctor wears clothes so children can know that they are doctors and not just another citizen.
I think the clothing is only there for useless gags and that they don’t exist. If I were to do anything, I’d make collars and harnesses for more thematic consistency. Until then, it has no more weight than the genie making pop culture references in the ancient Middle East.

Even bluey merchandise wear clothes like the new bluey and rusty go kart set who have printed blue lightning t shirts, the bus set where they printed bluey and bingo chutney chimp t shirts, they have plastic accessories to put the figurens on, and some other multi packs and sets who wears printed shirts and plastic accessories to put them on
Bluey characters might be in a similar situation as my little pony characters, where clothes are seen as optional and is used for special occasions or to signify wealth, like the Nobles in mlp. This could explain the granny pug, who wears clothing. Perhaps she is wealthy or was wealthy and wears the clothes to signify that. Or she wears them as simply a personal choice and means of self expression, similar to characters in mlp like rarity.

Silly theory, All the people died and the doggys are just copying stuff. Or, they all have secret life size dolls they dress :D I mean nana has a bunch of costumes so theres gotta be clothes for special occasions. I see pjs a lot with neighbors and things like gym cloths.
Clothes are apparently also used as status symbols of nobility. Bandit's queen doll always has royal robes and and they have robes in the episode Queens. (I assume since they robe in the game doubles as the royal carpet, that's why they all sit naked/casual on the throne.)
My theory is that they are just normal dogs that don't need to wear clothes, but then just like in the real world dogs get dressed up in costumes and clothes.😁😁

Properly similar to MLP. It's for a variety of things. It's easier for them not to have clothes, but the artists also want it to be easy to distinguish things, so they wear clothes when it's a wedding. So it's clear to the audience what the picture is, aka they have wedding-tied clothing, and when workers are doing their work, they show it by outfits, just so it's easier to spot, oh, that's a doctor, oh, that's a contractor, oh, that's a military, etc. There isn't a super deep meaning to it.
Please do a theory video about whether or not Luckys family is a mixed family and whether or not his little Brother is adopted or if his mum is it golden retriever.
one person here in the comment pointed out that clothes can be the equivalent of real dogs collars/gear ! dogs have to wear specific stuff when they are service dogs or military dogs and we dress them up for occasions :)
i think it checks out that for most if not all casual activities their fur works just fine, but for some more formal or differential use cloths would work better, plus in theory a global society of dogs would probably need cloths for less accommodated dog breeds for colder areas of the globe.
I think it's like every anthro cartoon. It's that style of cartoon. In the context of how the characters see each other in the world, they are wearing clothes. This would also make that "no taking pictures of people's bums" scene make sense, since in that context, Chilli would be wearing a tight yoga outfit.
I think the nudist colony idea is a bit far. I’m not against them, but for a kids show like Bluey i think they just have clothes in case they want to dress up for an event or work.

i think it's just like dogs in real life, we don't put them in cloths most of the time but if the dog has a job like a seeing eye dog or if it works in security or a cop dog they wear a uniform, or even just for fun people might put their dog in cloths.

We're Australian, and we can say you don't just have to be in Queensland to hang your clothes up. We only use a dryer when it's rainy. I'm pretty sure everyone who has the room will do what we do to.
Theories aside it’s just an artistic addition to help the viewer distinguish characters and settings. The doctor wears a white coat to help you understand that they are the doctor without telling you their the doctor. They wear the sports uniforms to show they are one of the players and to tell which team their on.
I think it's like dogs in real life. Special needs dogs wear harnesses to signify that they are on the job, which helps others and them start behaving as such. I think for the dogs in the Bluey verse, it is much the same. It helps them keep orderly.
Theory, you aren't far off with the cleanliness thing, just with all of the "uniforms" except the mailman keep something clean, the tradies clothes hold their tools, and for the military, well, what's something that'd possibly be easier to see consistently on clothes vs fur

Given the whole pocket thing and other things seen in the show, I have come to a conclusion that for certain instances, basic clothing is just invisible for the sake of cartoon logic. It's there, just not visible the entire time. And is only visible if the show demands it.
Ok but whats really weird is how they pull keys or phones out of what would be back pokets but they don't have pockets cuz they're naked. 😳 Blueys dad pulls out his phone & Friskey pulls out Rads keys for torch mouse.
My theory is that they’re dogs. So they wear “dog clothes.” You know, when you go to the pet store and you see all those outfits for dogs, but still most dogs don’t wear clothes most of the time. People dress up their dogs for weddings and sports teams. They put costumes on them for Halloween. Dogs with jobs in the real world often wear gear or some sort of signifier to show what their job is. It’s like that. They wear clothes almost exactly like dogs in the real world do.

I see it to be the same as the "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" show. They only wear clothing for a job, special occasion, or as a fashion statement.
In the episode where Bluey and Bandit find the injured budgie and take it to the vet. The vet is seen only wearing a top, no pants or skirt or any type of bottom. But when Bingo is in the hospital, the doctor and nurse have full tops and bottoms.

I Have a Theory, I think the clothes they do wear is for the little kids to know what they work at. For example the doctor wears clothes so children can know that they are doctors and not just another citizen.
I think the clothing is only there for useless gags and that they don’t exist. If I were to do anything, I’d make collars and harnesses for more thematic consistency. Until then, it has no more weight than the genie making pop culture references in the ancient Middle East.

I think it's a thing like where basic clothing isn't really visible but work clothing which signifies important things like how service dogs wear vests is that, and also like clothes along those lines is visible
Even bluey merchandise wear clothes like the new bluey and rusty go kart set who have printed blue lightning t shirts, the bus set where they printed bluey and bingo chutney chimp t shirts, they have plastic accessories to put the figurens on, and some other multi packs and sets who wears printed shirts and plastic accessories to put them on

Bluey characters might be in a similar situation as my little pony characters, where clothes are seen as optional and is used for special occasions or to signify wealth, like the Nobles in mlp.
This could explain the granny pug, who wears clothing. Perhaps she is wealthy or was wealthy and wears the clothes to signify that. Or she wears them as simply a personal choice and means of self expression, similar to characters in mlp like rarity.

Clothes are apparently also used as status symbols of nobility. Bandit's queen doll always has royal robes and and they have robes in the episode Queens. (I assume since they robe in the game doubles as the royal carpet, that's why they all sit naked/casual on the throne.)
My theory is that they are just normal dogs that don't need to wear clothes, but then just like in the real world dogs get dressed up in costumes and clothes.😁😁
Cartoon characters that wear cloths when they normally don't has been a thing since the 30s way back when buggs bunny used to dress as different characters. When you think about it it is weird in a sense. Your nudist theory works too

Properly similar to MLP. It's for a variety of things. It's easier for them not to have clothes, but the artists also want it to be easy to distinguish things, so they wear clothes when it's a wedding. So it's clear to the audience what the picture is, aka they have wedding-tied clothing, and when workers are doing their work, they show it by outfits, just so it's easier to spot, oh, that's a doctor, oh, that's a contractor, oh, that's a military, etc. There isn't a super deep meaning to it.

one person here in the comment pointed out that clothes can be the equivalent of real dogs collars/gear ! dogs have to wear specific stuff when they are service dogs or military dogs and we dress them up for occasions :)
i think it checks out that for most if not all casual activities their fur works just fine, but for some more formal or differential use cloths would work better, plus in theory a global society of dogs would probably need cloths for less accommodated dog breeds for colder areas of the globe.
I think it's like every anthro cartoon. It's that style of cartoon. In the context of how the characters see each other in the world, they are wearing clothes.
This would also make that "no taking pictures of people's bums" scene make sense, since in that context, Chilli would be wearing a tight yoga outfit.

I think the nudist colony idea is a bit far. I’m not against them, but for a kids show like Bluey i think they just have clothes in case they want to dress up for an event or work.
Is based on when people tend to dress their dogs? ie, lap dogs get all kinds of outfits, old dogs get cold and need more layers, people dress their dogs for special occasions, children dress dogs for their play/imagination...
i think it's just like dogs in real life, we don't put them in cloths most of the time but if the dog has a job like a seeing eye dog or if it works in security or a cop dog they wear a uniform, or even just for fun people might put their dog in cloths.

We're Australian, and we can say you don't just have to be in Queensland to hang your clothes up. We only use a dryer when it's rainy. I'm pretty sure everyone who has the room will do what we do to.

Theories aside it’s just an artistic addition to help the viewer distinguish characters and settings. The doctor wears a white coat to help you understand that they are the doctor without telling you their the doctor. They wear the sports uniforms to show they are one of the players and to tell which team their on.
I think it's like dogs in real life. Special needs dogs wear harnesses to signify that they are on the job, which helps others and them start behaving as such. I think for the dogs in the Bluey verse, it is much the same. It helps them keep orderly.
Theory, you aren't far off with the cleanliness thing, just with all of the "uniforms" except the mailman keep something clean, the tradies clothes hold their tools, and for the military, well, what's something that'd possibly be easier to see consistently on clothes vs fur

Maybe they are very much aware that they are dogs and don't really care much if they are naked and would wear clothes if they could and want. But that contradicts that when bluey asks bandit why they need manners and he responded with "because we are not animals".
I remember on Garfield and friend during on of the US arces episodes on character says they have to do laundry and one finally asks why are you always doing laundry when none of us wear any of and she replies I don't know

Given the whole pocket thing and other things seen in the show, I have come to a conclusion that for certain instances, basic clothing is just invisible for the sake of cartoon logic. It's there, just not visible the entire time. And is only visible if the show demands it.
We put Clothes on our pets (i put some on my bunnies) so maybe it has the same feel as that?

My theory is that they’re dogs. So they wear “dog clothes.” You know, when you go to the pet store and you see all those outfits for dogs, but still most dogs don’t wear clothes most of the time. People dress up their dogs for weddings and sports teams. They put costumes on them for Halloween. Dogs with jobs in the real world often wear gear or some sort of signifier to show what their job is. It’s like that. They wear clothes almost exactly like dogs in the real world do.

Their dogs they wear clothing the same way dogs do in the real world as an accessory, it's kind of like jewelry to us to them putting on a fancy dress isn't any different than us putting on a particularly stylish hat or new necklace
Man of course sports and job uniforms work the same way they do in the real world, but even can still be make the same comparison for instance workplace lanyard like jewelry for them the entire outfit is like the lanyard something they'd only wear at work and not likely to wear outside of it, I mean even real world dogs can technically have uniforms like the vests on service dogs
You forgot to mention that in the episode Ticklecrabs, Bandit is seen wearing red swim briefs after the title card which looks like a Speedo. Honestly, I don’t know why something like that would exist in the Bluey-verse considering that the only type of swimwear that’s worn for a reason are rashies which is the case for children.
