- Bluey Theory time! WHY was the Bluey episode Teasing taken down and then mysteriously put back up years later? Here is my bluey theory about the 3 reasons why this episode might have been controversial then but is ok now with the changes to bluey season 3.

I am a big fan of bluey and with season 3 airing in Australia, I thought I would do a breakdown of every episode with a small review, some spoilers, and any bluey theories that might pop up. Bluey season 1 and 2 hit disney plus two months after airing in Australia so hopefully, all of season 3 will be out for everyone soon!

It probably took a while to dub and edit parts because the voice actors were busy working on the bluey videogame

For the message about Teasing and the fine line of teasing vs bullying, I think its clear that during the episode, both parties can both laugh off for the slight jokes. When bandit apologizes for the ice cream part, its the moment when its a little too far, as bingo wouldn't be able to enjoy that as a happy memory, as bandit steal her food (Especially for dogs!)
teasing is when both parties and enjoy the joke as a game after only a couple of moments, bullying is when one party is being constantly targeted for the purpose of a mean joke, or other reasons and the other party is not enjoying these constant things.

It’s on the DVD uncensored. Season 2 disc 1 under the Australian Originals. It has the uncensored episodes including the banned episode Dad Baby.
4:53 at first i also thought they didnt explain the lesson at the end. But after rewatching i think that fade out with the girls laughing IS the explanation: “the difference between playing and teasing is…laughter😁”. When you play you have fun and can laugh but when you tease, feelings can get hurt and you’re not laughing (like bingo with the popsicle at first😆).

I really hate the censorship. If Bluey gives something that is difficult for children to understand, it's the parents' job to explain that, and if they don't want to, that's on them, not disney
I believe that parents can use every episode of Bluey as a teachable moment. Like you said, it may take a long time to for kids to figure it out, but eventually, they do. I watched the episode before seeing your video and really did enjoy it. Love your videos. There is so much insight into the Bluey Verse.

Even without watching the episode, it's normal for older siblings to not understand boundaries with younger ones. It's a pretty common thing to have to take some time to point out to the older child: "Look. Baby is crying. Does Baby look happy or sad?" I didn't see the lesson being on "it's ok if you can tease them back." I thought it was more about the idea that it's only ok if EVERYONE is having fun. If someone isn't having fun or is clearly hurt, then it crosses a line. Bandit recognized that he had taken his teasing a step too far and Bingo was hurt, so he stopped and apologized. I think Bingo calling him "Shoobydowa" there was indicating that she had truly accepted her apology, as it was a nickname given in play. Had she not forgiven him, she might've groaned or whispered a response to an apology. Instead, she immediately went to doing something that she saw as silly and playful.
I remember the first time I watched FaceyTalk I was so confused by Aunt Trixie's sudden reappearance as I thought she'd meant she was going out when she did she needed to be somewhere 😅
Such an odd thing to censor in my opinion. That being said I definitely get the hesitancy with releasing Teasing as it is a bit of a heavy issue but I think it is a good introduction to the topic

I went through a similar thing with my 3 yo and "playing catch." She'd just throw the ball at people and I somehow had to explain that if only one person is playing then it's throwing not playing. Catch takes two people same with teasing participation is key. 🤦♀️

I think it comes to how most children grow up these days. Either as an only child and going to school since a very young age, or having one sibling.
I've grown up with alongside cousins at different ages, closer to mine and older as well. Whenever the teasing crossed the line, the older cousins intervened.
An age diverse group of children spending time together is a great learning experience for children. With adult supervision, of course
My 11-year-old really enjoys watching you! I'll tell her something nifty I found out about Bluey and she says, "yeah, I know" because she already heard about it from you!
As a kid I was definitely very Impressionable so even little things I would emulate, sometimes its unavoidable. I used to slurp my soup because there was a slurping sound effect in a Barbie movie, so if a princess does it why shouldn’t I? It’s something I either grew out of or was taught not to do, but I feel like its good that kids have little mess ups like that when they are young so they can learn early. (As long as they are old enough to have a conversation about what is and is not ok). I feel like I learn better when I fail at something first, and that applies to a lot of other kids too.
Very insightful I think you’re totally correct and while I like this episode I don’t think it will ever be one of my favourites. Mostly because I just don’t like watching anyone be mean to bingo on purpose. Bingo is such a good bean that anytime I see someone being mean to her it’s upsetting to me. The exception is episodes like dance mode and the one where she has to speak up to dad. When bingo gets hurt accidentally because she can’t speak up for herself I find that incredibly relatable. When people are mean to her on purpose… it hurts my wee heart. So I don’t skip teasing on rewatches but I won’t go out of my way to watch it either. Not like camping, or pass the parcel, or onesies, or bingo.

I do believe that Teasing was removed just for the fine line between bullying and teasing. If it doesn't explain it well enough, you get situations like what you're dealing with right now. I do think that it should be up with a warning/recommendation that children five and up only should watch the episode, but of course, MANY parents today just put Bluey on and walk away, not monitoring what their children are watching.
It's one of the reasons why I'm almost positive my favorite comic book/TV series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, will never make a movie out of the darker, alternate timeline. Too many parents would look at the title and think "Oh, it's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, it'll be absolutely fine to bring my child to despite having an R rating!" Then when they find out how dark and disturbing the movie would be, they'd be the ones who would write in to complain about how their child is now scarred because they watched one of the turtles actually kill someone.

I think the message for parents at the end of the episode (via the Volume Knob game) is that they're not going to try to tell kids the difference between teasing and playing because it's complicated, and parents have to have that discussion with their kids themselves. Simultaneously, I think the message for kids is that they should ask their parents what the difference is. That's fairly clear, in my opinion. They're trying to encourage parents and kids to have this conversation.
But there are a lot of people who might have missed that message, and during the pandemic Disney may not have been too keen on having lots of focus groups and getting a wide range of opinions. They had their own problems. My theory is that during the pandemic Disney knee-jerk reacted to a minority of opinions, and when they could revisit the old decisions with more focus groups, they did so and reversed many of their previous hasty decisions.
It's also possible that somebody in middle management at Disney somewhere was replaced. Somebody left their job, they put a new person in, and that new person made different decisions. Lots of nameless shadowy people make millions of decisions per day that completely change the entertainment landscape we experience, and we'll never know most of their names or what could have been.

Love the videos Margie. Teasing and bullying is a thin line. Honestly, I think kids will pick this up in day-to-day life, copying parents' actions, friends, or older siblings and it has little to do with the show. Censorship is wild and I wouldn't be shocked if they go into splitting up episodes as the audience will grow older.

My daugher loves Bluey and she recently discoverd your channel, she really enjoys the easter eggs and insights to the episodes. I have to say Bluey is one of my favourite shows too - it's really a laugh out loud show.
Okay, I get the name calling on that episode. In all honesty, I thought they took it off Disney Plus because of the name Bluey was given, which was a boy name, Dennis. And some of these censors are RIDICULOUS, as like Trixie on the toilet. In Daniel tiger, I know it isn’t Disney, but there is a WHOLE episode about using the toilet, and the humans were actually pulling down their pants, so I don’t get the big deal, there wasn’t anything showing, and the dogs are always naked in this world, so idk. But all in all, I really liked this episode, and I would watch it again and again

Hi, Aussie Girl Margie!! First I just want to say how much I enjoy your videos, so good to have another 'mum's' perspective on the episodes. I love Bluey and I now watch it more than my kids. lol 🤣 I can completely sympathize with your first hand experience of your son teasing your daughter when she was just a baby. I have experienced that with my two kiddos who are also about 2 years apart and the brother being the older sibling and teasing his little sister and thinking he was being funny but she didn't understand and did not like it. So, I do agree that it is probably not appropriate for younger children. It is a really fun episode and I am glad it's back on. I think it's a good opportunity to address the topic of teasing and teach our kiddos to be kind and have fun. 🥰

Hi Margie, I think Disney+ had it on as an episode but had then gotten complaints about it and decided to take it down to edit it and then secretly added it back on. They tried to do it with no knowing but every Bluey fan realised and it started a confusing, unknown thing that is now just a mystery.😄😃

I agree with Bingo and her dad that "shoobee doowah" is funny.
The difference between bullying and teasing is, bullying is where you are rude to someone like, hurting them, excluding them, physical violence. etc. And teasing is where you are like, not making fun of them but getting them to join it. And it’s like when the other person laughs it off and joins in, then that’s teasing! It is a bit hard to explain, but this is what it means in my vision! I love your videos so much!❤❤❤❤

Honestly I thought the reference to Bandit helping Bingo wipe would've been the reason the episode was banned considering how pearl clutching Disney always seems to be with Bluey's episodes. What you said makes a lot of sense though, because my theory doesn't line up considering the other references to toilet humour in the show. The concern about bullying vs teasing makes far more sense, and is honestly pretty fair. It's not something I considered seein I have no children and before now didn't recognise that they'd interpret what was said differently.

Thank you for another amazing video. I know this is going to be a hot take but I don't like teasing at all. I think that it is just as bad if not worse them bullying as it is just as bad and is often overlooked as innocent fun but the adults but can be very upsetting to the person being teased.

*Playful* teasing is common in my family and among my friends, that’s kinda how we play around. So I believe that the episode was more “Teasing VS Bullying” than “Playing VS Teasing”. Because as a general rule, the difference between the two is if you’re being silly and just kidding, the other person’s not OVERLY annoyed and the other person’s having fun too, it’s teasing. But if you start to hurt the person’s feelings or frustrate them, that’s bullying. Bandit is kinda prone to bullying the kids, as evidenced by episodes like “Obstacle course”. So I think if they worded it differently and clarified *exactly* what the difference IS, it probably would have gone a lot smoother among the “Disney+ censorship committee”.
