It wouldn’t surprise me if he got a Raid sponsorship or something similar and just briefly put the script on screen to read if you pause, then proceed to dunk on the game.
So what have learnt about getting your hands on military secrets? Step 1. Make simulation game. Step 2. Intentionally guess the schematics of equipment you want the schematics for. Step 3. Put it in the game. Step 4. Wait for an outraged miltec nerd that has top secret clearance to "correct" you with the actual schematics.

That thing about people leaking military secrets to correct information in Warthunder didn't just happen the once. There were three separate instances that I can remember off the top of my head. One Chinese, one French and one British.
6 times in fact. Eurocopter Tiger, two things about the Challenger 2, penetration of Type 99, Leclerc turret rotation speed, and then the Chinese Shell.
Sseth videos provide a very niche vibe/feeling. However, it is one that is heavily addictive and only Sseth can provide to satisfactory means. Every couple of months I feel the withdrawal kick in and slowly go insane as I wait until I can get my next hit of Ssethomine.
Makes sense that Sseth's WT video would have existential crisis vibes. I don't think I've consistently played any other game over a span of years that has me flip so often between 'That was awesome!' and 'What the hell am I doing with my life?'
this is the sentence that describes 100% of War Thunder. At any tier, the game gives "This is amazing" and "Why do i keep doing this?" but I go back, every single time.. it's amazing.

The comparison to Chess feels spot on. I took up Chess in earnest a couple years ago. Actually learned the rules (mostly by losing to a coworker) and decided to play online or at work almost every day. I got good enough to win like… 1/3 to 2/3 of my games, but was still very low level. When I went looking for how to become a better player, the number one answer was to study. Memorize openings, and counters to those openings. Read books about tactics, strategies, and what to do in the endgame. I learned that high level chess players can know how the game will end well in advance, and agree to just end it. Part of me was willing to do all of that. Even bought a couple recommended books, and started reading them. But eventually I realized that, for me, part of the fun was NOT knowing how the game would go. NOT knowing if I was walking into a trap, but having to try and determine it on the fly. I realized that if I played chess with the intention of just being better than everyone else, I would stop enjoying it, and it would turn into a hateful grind. And if I somehow achieved that goal, then chess could never be fun and surprising again. We don’t have to be the best at anything. We don’t have to win every encounter. If you want to, then more power to ya, but it’s not necessary for simple enjoyment.
You might really like the Chinese game Go. It’s like chess but entirely unique every match you play. I was on the exact same chess path as you and quit learning for the same reasons. Now I convince my friends to play Go with me.
You ever heard the saying, “funerals are for the living?” It’s similar to that in the sense that we have funerals in order for the living to get closure, not for the sake of the dead person, however most people still want a funeral for themselves after they’ve died despite the fact that they won’t be around to appreciate it. So even if we decided to only spread the names and faces of shooters after they’ve died, the next kid thinking about how much they hate their life and want to shoot up a school will take into account the fact that they will get fame/infamy, and the fact that it may only come after they’ve died isn’t much of a deterrent especially since they know that they’ve got a good chance of dying in the shooting regardless. However, if we decided as a culture to basically refuse to publicize the names and faces of the perpetrators (and somehow get all of the media to go along with that), so that the perps became, for all intents and purposes, publicly erased in perpetuity, that may help to remove one of the drivers. I’be also wondered how much the “interview every survivor and ask them to walk you through the experience” sort of stories that focus on the fear and despair experienced by people during the event may do more harm than good. Remember that these shooters effectively revel in the terror of their victims and by exploiting these survivors for ratings and focusing on the act itself for the titillation of the viewers likely encourages shooters as well. I’m not suggesting that we ignore the victims or the act itself, but there must be a way to present these stories in a way that gets across the devastation and focuses on preventing the next shooter, whereas current coverage that uses things like surveillance video from the locations, lots of shots of screaming and crying classmates, and descriptions that allow the viewer to almost love the experience themselves almost certainly have the wrong effect on the future mass-shooters-to-be. Regardless, I suspect it’s more like the idea that there’s no such thing as an anti-war movie (in the sense that even when dealing with movies that portray war in the most brutal and realistic ways possible and take pains to make it clear that war is bad, horrifying, senseless, etc., there is still a small portion of the audience that will see war as some romantic adventure). Similarly, I think that no matter how we cover these events, there will always be angry teenagers that revel in the media coverage because they see it as a fellow “loser” standing up for themselves against a world that is full of people that hate them and mock them and want to hurt them. And in this case, anything more interesting or emotional than a dry, monotone, emotionless voice reading off the facts of the incident over a blank screen is bound to give the next shooter-to-be some perverse pleasure knowing that their actions would have the same effect.
Hey Sseth, long time viewer here. I am very glad that you had the courage to talk about your struggles, and I'm happy to hear you managed to get over your addiction. I've played WT literally since it came out in 2012. This review is 100% accurate and you should follow every piece of advice offered, especially the one about refusing to play the skinner box rat race grind for tiers higher than 5.0, unless you are willing to pay the bribes for shortcuts. It's an amazing game for historical vehicle combat enjoyers and I'm glad I haven't played it in over a year.
I put in 1500-2000 hours in this piece of garbage reaching tier 6 across multiple nations in air and ground forces. Gaijin is just after money, quality and fun is not a concern as long as their pockets get filled. It has so much potential, so much that I'm willing to bet that it could be the most popular PC game ever while still generating tons revenue, but, they don't give a ship because people are dumb and give them money anyways. They're lucky they don't have any competition. I only have one advise for people not paying: keep it like that. Do not even start playing. The grind is unreal even with a premium account. Do something more worthwhile with your time.

I remember there was a short window where friendly fire was enabled after they added the M56, an American tank destroyer where all 3 crew members sit outside and in the open. It was a race to load in and run away before the team could kill you.
they disabled the Ground RB friendly fire due to conflicts between nations in real life, and players were teamkilling those who would show support for the "opposing" nation by using decals. I want to say it started with the Russian annexation of Crimea back in 2014 but I may be wrong there.
@@squillz8310 There were no annexation. Crimea splintered into indepedent state first (It was possible thanks to illegal abolition of Crimea's constitution by Ukraine), then immediately requested the Russia to step in. Thanks to that, there were no bloodshed. For the example of opposite, look at DPR/LPR, who were shelled for 8 years, despite two sets of minsk agreements, both forcing cease fire. Even the special military operatioin started after piggies multiplied their shelling efforts by 20 times. It's actually registered by OSCE in their SMM 40/2022 report.
Heard of the M2 Bradley that fought T-90 and won? Gunner gave an interview and more or less stated that he knew the weakspots from War Thunder. Possibly even referencing the tactic of "blinding" the enemy with fire that doesn't deal damage but causes flashes and smoke to block their vision.
War Thunder strikes the perfect balance between being interesting enough to keep you going while also keeping you seconds away from sending a pipe bomb along with conspicuous white powder letters to Gaijin' offices.
Naval is ok these days, mostly play subcapitals, and often score kills on destroyers and cruisers. It's not as fast paced, difficult and unpredictable as tanks and air, but has enough strategic and tactical depth to keep you entertained.
Realistic actually isn't that bad. It can be rewarding to learn to land your shots without the aim-assistance, and you really learn the advantages and disadvantages of pretty much every vehicle in the game. It also takes the grind from 4,000 years to unlock an entire tech tree to only 3,000 years!
Realistic mode is for people with aspergers who enjoy staring at the sky doing nothing for half the game as they climb up to altitude. Literally just staring at drywall. Arcade is constant action, constant fun, you're allowed to pull off insane maneuvers and don't need to worry about ammo or fuel, your only concern is having fun.
@@fiddlesticks7245 I don’t have autism and I still find it fun, but we can agree to disagree. Obviously arcade is fun, it’s still War Thunder, but properly using your plane’s mechanics and beating a British seagull after a clever dogfight is a thrill that you don’t get as often in arcade. Honestly they’re almost like two different games, as the stakes are completely different. In arcade you go for the crazy maneuver because it’s really fun, and worst case scenario you die and pick a different plane. In realistic it’s like playing a game of chess. You might end up making a move that completely throws the whole match at the very beginning, or you could draw it out until your opponent finally makes a blunder. While you have infinite choices in your strategy, half of those choices will result in you being sent back to the hanger and waiting in another loading screen. There is something very addicting and methodical about realistic that I just can’t get from any other game. A simulator is too much, arcade is too little, but realistic is just right for me.
The individual worth speech (or manic break down I'm not sure) was oddly comforting, the worlds crazy so its nice to hear someone put it into words. The contents great as always, keep it up!

One thing that is mentioned but not really explained, that ACTUALLY makes WT better than World of Tanks, Armored Warfare, and other similar F2P P2W grinds: lack of balance. They put in realistic vehicles without caring for their performance. Which means that unlike WoT for example, where you will 70% of the time be dunked on by higher-tier vehicles that you can't even pen, in WT you can just play OP models that do just fine against higher tier and have a great time. Like, you can just play the German tier 1 tanks who get autocannons with 70mm pen while everyone else gets shitty single shot cannons that also pen less... its great fun. Or if you like planes, just main Spitfires or something, great performance on every metric and outclass many planes a tier higher. The extreme example of this is the following: Blowing up boats with plane rockets is hella fun. However, most plane rockets in the game are either peashooters, or only available to high-tier planes that get matched against destroyers and higher that are much too large and bristling with AA. So, if you like rocketing small boats, you have to pick the ONE plane out of hundreds the game offers that allows just this: the Pe-3(e), everything else is trash. But, as long as you know to pick it, you'll have great fun. Of course, if you're the kinda person that must play specific nation and get stuck playing say Japanese river boats (which were designed to only bully rock-armed Chinese peasants and entirely lack speed, firepower, and armor) then you're going to suffer... but that suffering will be entirely self-inflicted, as long as you know how to manipulate the battle rating system WT is by far the least torturous F2P game

While just about every tank is designed with sloped armor in the front, the T34 does have something that makes it special: The Russians tempered the steel to roughly double the usual hardness rating. I couldn't control myself after years and years of trying. Look into Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD) My head was always so loud, so noisy, I could never relax, never got a moment to breathe. Eventually, I slipped into alcoholism. I didn't even realise until I was going through a liter of vodka every weekend. All I wanted is to be calm. It’s also worth noting that arcade and realistic modes use different physics models. When I was introducing a friend to WT a while back, we tried playing arcade tank battles, and he was extremely put off by how light everything felt. The tanks were accelerating fast, moving fast, and turning so quickly that he was drifting. *Drifting. In a tank.* We switched to realistic and he immediately felt much more comfortable.

This is why bobby fischer quit chess, he realized the game had nothing left to surprise him with.

@Femboy Friday it really is the best way to grind for SL
Also you're actually rewarded for rushing out like an asshole
Naval is ok these days, mostly play subcapitals, and often score kills on destroyers and cruisers. It's not as fast paced, difficult and unpredictable as tanks and air, but has enough strategic and tactical depth to keep you entertained.
Imagine being so bad at video games you have to play naval to gain enough SL.
I agree!
Realistic battles (land forces) is basically not playing against an enemy with in built aim hack system + enemy location minimap

But I managed to kick that addiction. It's not easy... I sometimes think about it, and think to myself "Just a few games... Although, the download is big enough that I might as well get back into it for a while..." but I know that I wouldn't be able to stop. It's happened before.
Been playing since literally 2012...... Kill me pls old guard title holder. I come back every so often to low tier and mid tier just to seal.club the entire team . Like a nightmarish monster snd go back to hiding after.. always grinding for high tier constantly ive found out that pass 4.7 br the game goes from fun to high blood pressure . And after 6.7 its insanity at that point

I was on adderall for a few months in college, and even from that I can totally see what Sseth means. It's a liar, it makes you feel so good and happy, you focus so hard, you can work your ass off all day without taking a break or feeling tired. But you know it's not real, and you are slowly sinking into a pit of dependence and inevitable depression when you are weened off. That was like 3 years ago and I still occasionally get a craving for it. It's so damn wonderful, but so damn bad for you in the long term.
@@hedgeearthridge6807 Is that sort of dependency issue specific to Adderall/Xanax? I got prescribed Vyvanse and I’ve never felt any sort of addiction in the years since I started taking it, but these horror stories about meds always leave me concerned.
Speaking for myself, I was off Ritalin in my teenage years and it was a nightmare - crashed out of school. I’ve been back on it now for a few years in my thirties and it’s been fine for me. It keeps my thoughts together, and that’s more important than being a substance puritan. I’ll have a prescription for the rest of my life so won’t need to ween off any time soon (just be *very* careful with dosage - overdose ain’t fun).
@@hedgeearthridge6807 It hits everyone different. I spent 23 years unmedicated before I bit the bullet. It used to be I had emotional breakdowns constantly. Severe mood swings, ones I noticed but were uncontrollable. I'd break down into tears for no better reason than a friend was slightly abrasive to me at the worst points.
I'm on methylphenidate now (ritalin) and have been for years. It feels like I can actually control myself. I'm still impulsive, it's still noisy, but it's so much more controllable. I've not lost myself, it's just that people can now understand me when I talk instead of my sentences losing the plot halfway through - assuming I didn't just forget to keep talking. It's not about just functioning as a cog in the wheel of society, I barely functioned as a human being, and I fucking hated it.
That's to say nothing of the monthly 1-2 psychotic episodes (the fun of dopamine imbalance, yay!) where I'd shut down from sudden overstimulation and suffer from moderate to severe paranoia.
For me, it literally saved my life.
Sometimes I wonder if aliens hesitate, because every man, woman, and child has access to dank ass war simulators at any given moment. And we do it because it's just so goddamn fun.
