      The Mac Webcam beta was released May 27 and was used to stream an hour-long funeral via Zoom on July 10 with my 6D Mark II and a MacBook Pro. It worked great. After downloading the saved Zoom video I combined it with video from a second camera so the family could share a keepsake with others who couldn't attend the live stream. An Audio Technica USB mic fed into the Mac and a second, much clearer audio channel came from a Røde wireless lav mic into the second camera. I also tested the setup on a Canon M6 Mark II with zero problems. The only other gear I needed to buy was an AC power adapter for the 6D Mk II and a longer USB cable.

    Finally, a concise video that showcased:
    1. What kind of plug is utilized for camera to pc
    2. What kind of battery bank you'll need and how it's plugged in/works
    3. Miscellaneous settings needed in order to showcase the best kind of video quality
    4. What photography terms/lenses/etc. you can adjust or change to enhance beyond just the basic kit
    Allll under 10 minutes.

    Hey, you actually can use it for zoom with Ecamm by enabling the virtual output in ecamm. It takes the feed from Ecamm and creates a video input for Zoom! It’s a couple of steps but it works!

    G'day, Omar! Thank you for this very helpful video!! I will be a rank beginner at Livestreaming, when (and if) I eventually organise a concert in my small town. This concert was meant to happen in March of 2020 but I think you can guess what happened (COVID). In a way, it was a good thing, because I didn't have my M50 back then so it's a bit of a silver lining. When (if) the concert happens, it will be in the only location that 'fits the bill', i.e. a local church hall. Concerts used to be staged there fairly regularly, so it's actually not as bad as it sounds. The equipment I have (besides the M50) is: Sigma 17-50 f2.8 (through the range) lens, Rode Videomic, which slots into the external flash holder, dummy battery and all other cables, etc. for continuous power source, including a portable power cell holding a genuine 20,000 mAhrs. I also have a reasonable tripod and a good (fast) laptop. The main 'issue', as I see it, is the Internet. I have a reasonably good connection at home, though it's by no means the best. I could use my phone, which has 10GBs/month data but I think I will need one of the dongles you showed us; perhaps a 'single use' one. Have I forgotten anything? Regards!

Problem is that the Camlink device gets so hot after 10 minutes of streaming that I could make a grilled cheese sandwich on it. It’s not an option. Elgato’s Cam Link does work but when I use Zoom or Google Meet there is an overlay from the canon m50 settings. Also, canons webcam utility seems to break when Apple
    updates. I have to open and close it to activate m50 as webcam. No matter the software or hardware I am using it is just plain difficult to stream or use a canon camera as a WebCam on Apple devices. I think OBS is going to be my solution for stable Screen recordings and live streams and meetings. EDIT: I have to change the clean HDMI setting.

    Man, I love this channel! You guy are the most helpful. Thanks a ton!!
    ...most definitely plan on streaming...testing OBS using the canon beta software for mac. One thing to note for beginners that may or may not have been mentioned is the computing power requirements for video streaming. For instance, my 2008 8-core MacPro can handle all music production tasks I throw at, as well as edit video, but technical limitations in its design don't allow it to work as well for steaming versus my newer computers that have faster bus speeds, ram, etc. (trying not to be too technical). The 8-core CAN stream, but there are extra adjustments I have to make to get it ready for a smooth experience using it. I'm not advocating the purchase of a new computer just for streaming (esp. during these budget conscious times), but test out your setup and see where you stand.

    Hi I have been following your channel for a long time..but I have always liked the video and watched the videos...at first thank you for sharing so much online ...there are so many small details I have integrated into my videos. Although its from my other channel which is /st11dio. If you feel like checking. A lot is inspired. Simple things like pushing in your name and titles etc etc.. anyway my purpose of writing is..there is a way to connect Canon Dslr to the Mac. I use a Canon 1dx mark ii and the way to do it is ..use Camlive as a software which detects your canon Dslr as a Webcam. And then use Cam Twist to connect the DSLR as a Webcam to it...and then use Camtwist to broadcast...cam twist is free and it can be connected to zoom and other platforms which you have mentioned. Please feel free to explore that and perhaps make a video on that...the only drawback is you don't have those fancy options like lower thirds and live comments like what ecamm allows. And since my work involves showcasing prerecorded videos on zoom via presentations.. i pre edit my content already. So the simplicity of cam twist works for me. Hope this info helps ..cheers

    New M50 user thanks to your vids! I use a MacBook Pro and want to do streams to YT and FB.
    So are you saying that I can use the USB connection with Ecamm live or do I have to use the CamLink with Ecamm Live?
    Also is there any difference in video quality between the USB-Ecamm or HDMI-CamLink4K options ?
    Learning from your vids every day!

    To stream on FullHD you'll have to pay a premium subscription for Canon Web utility which in my book is outrageous. For the price of this camera, things like that should've been included. I'm stingy, so I use an HDMI capture card but the problem is Mark 1 Canon M50 doesn't have clean HDMI output, so I have to set focus on manual as auto focus shows square on my face. If anyone has a workaround that doesn't require expensive software subscriptions, please let me know. I love the quality (can't get anything remotely close from webcams) but manual focus is a big con.

  • @GordonChaffin
    @GordonChaffin 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe I missed this, but you guys did not talk about how to get a clean HDMI out. If you're working with the settings via the touchscreen, you have to turn off all the information displays on the screen and then go to manual focus to get rid of the focus-hunting box. If you don't go to MF, the video signal will show that box in your broadcast.

      Great point! My goal was to point people towards the utility app that canon has created and will soon have ready for Mac - using this method doesn’t make you have to do all that

    I Haven't purchased the M50 yet, but I plan to use it for live streaming on Twitch and TH-cam. Honestly, I plan to use it for Multimedia (Live-Streaming, Videography, Photography, ETC.) do you think that it would be a great option as a budget camera?

    The AF tracking box, how do you lose that ? The only way I can see is to actually start recording video of the stream into the M50 at the same time as you’re hooked up to a pc/laptop or turn off the AF tracking and go manual, which means you’ll have to sit in the same spot throughout to keep in focus

    • @harrisdanr
      @harrisdanr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately only way to do that is to go manual focus. This seems ridiculous as the M50’s autofocus is one of the primary selling points for me

    • @derekmack
      @derekmack 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I managed to lose it by hitting record at the same time as streaming, but if you don’t have a power adapter for the M50 then the rate it goes through batteries is horrendous

    Hey guys love the channel it's been incredibly helpful for us straying up our TH-cam channel. I've been using the M 50 with my macbook pro via a USB cable and Canon Eos software for streamyard successfully for over a month now. However it still isn't playing well with other programs like zoom (super weird). I still am going to go the capture card route since we want the highest quality possible but just thought I'd put this out there. Blessings!

    You can use M50 on Zoom for sure. Go to Canon Website and select your Camera and Download Beta Software to be able to use M50 or any Camera that they have this software available for Zoom meeting. I use it daily for my meetings.

    Great video!
    So I'm a M60 noob and want to live stream with it, so this was very helpful!
    I have the Rode Wireless Go with Lav setup, I just need to know where to plug it in to get sound with the live stream setup.
    To my computer's 3.5mm port?
    Or to my camera?
    I'm so confused, but I'm learning through you, so thanks so much for input.
    Also, does this give clean HDMI?
    I'm going to watch this a couple more times, to let it sink in..
    I appreciate the videos you make!
    Thanks!
