Glad to hear you’re feeling better! Take care of yourself first, we can wait :) looking forward to the audio settings and Mega Sg/Noir videos at any point that you’re able, even if it’s one core per video.
Thanks for your work! I avoided updating the FW until now, because I didn't want to start all over with the settings, but your efforts are encouraging.
This is beautiful! Now.. I just can't wait to get a Super Nt to check out all these settings.. ;) Looking forward to the Mega Sg version! Thanks for your time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh snap! 📸 I didn't even know there was a new firmware revision! Thank you very much for taking the time to make this video, I know what I'm doing tonight! 🍻
Thank you very much for going through all of these settings, the analogue consoles can be very intimidating with all of these features but it's good that they are there! Subbed
So I think 8:7 is the aspect ratio that the SNES actually outputs. CRTs would just stretch that to their native 4:3 ratio. When emulators started they were outputting 8:7 and not correcting for it. Some people got accustomed to that and prefer it. Some games seem to correct for this natural stretching to 4:3, and some don't. Its a matter of preference so I can see why they include it as an option. My question is are you saying that 8:7 preset isn't correctly displaying it in 8:7 aspect ratio?
Okay so "8:7" is the term normally used to define SNES square pixels. The problem here with the Super Nt is the "8:7" setting is neither square pixels, nor proper aspect correction of ANY kind. So it's an enigma to me. I'll have to ask Kevin what the thought process was on it.
@@frankjaeger9588 Sorry in that I leave scanlines as a personal preference. Centering is something mathematical, whereas scanline settings are subjective.
And the scanlines? You don't have any optimal configuration for those of us who have a 43-inch TV and want to see it with scanlines and we don't know how to set the optimum?
There is no 'optimum'. Scanlines and their intensity settings are purely up to each person's preference, so I tend to not worry about those. You can get several recommendations from people who like them though.
Great video! If I wanted to do the SNES' true 8:7 aspect ratio, would that just be what the image is showing at 8:36 without changing the "WIDTH" part to 4:3 for 16:9?
Can you use this Super NT settings for the Retrotink 4K? I know there are CRT filters from you on the Retrotink 4K card. Does anyone know how to set hot the super nt for that? Thx 😊
@@michaelspector1274 On twitter I give regular updates to the progress on the Noir cores. In theory, the new settings for the Mega Drive core should work on the Mega Sg. We'll see when I get there though.
Thank you so much for this! Huge fan of your work... I'm using your 720p settings from the file because I prefer scanlines and they look best in 720p. When streaming I'm switching to 1080p and 4.8x DAR without scanlines. I was wondering.. Could you add a 720p DAR setting that fills the vertical space? Basically like the 4.8x one but for 720p. It's not a huge deal since 3x in 720p already fills most of the screen but it would be nice to have an alternative that uses the entire space.
FirebrandX What would be the default setting you will leave for unjailbroken Super NT and a Jailbroken Super NT? And you will pick these settings based on what? TV resolution? Is there one of these that will work for every game?
Just curious firebrandx as I just seen this in your description link. Was there a reason you didn’t include this 4.8x full screen settings in your video? Is this not ideal? Is 4.5x better? Just trying to figure out why. Who doesn’t want a full vertical screen right? Unless In some games you lose some pixels on top and bottom. If you can get back to me I’m curious as to what you think. I was gonna go with 4.5x and now I see you got full 4.8x. I kinda want to go with that more.
So I’m rocking your 5X scale 4:3 for 16:9 (1462x1200). Am I right to disable vertical and enabled horizontal interpolation? I don’t quite get the interpolation settings and when to use them. Thanks.
Yes, you want horizontal interpolation active since 4:3 aspect correction is being used there. Vertical is set to 5x scale, so turn off interpolation for vertical. Cheers!
Thank you for this video. Any recommendations on 480p settings? I like to lower resolutions and add scanlines to see what the pixel art was supposed to look like on a CRT.
Are the vertical and horizontal positional settings the same for the non jailbreak firmware? I thought they fixed the official firmware to center the picture by default
@@RedArremer I’ve found that you do need to adjust the vertical position to really make the scanlines line up. I’m no expert by any means, but if I stand really close next to the tv I can see that the lines sometimes don’t quite saddle in between the two pixel groups exactly.
@@Mampersand I just tried it out in 4x, and it always stays perfectly aligned even with shifting all over the place. Maybe it works better in this firmware?
@@RedArremer I tried it as well and on 5x it’s a similar behavior I’ve experienced in the past. 28 looks nice though. I used to keep it at 33. I believe the default is 32.

Honestly, after trying out the jailbreak and a few roms, I’m already SOOO tempted to snag an FX Pak Pro because of it’s potential! (Forgot to mention that the Jailbreak cannot run special enhancement chip games like Yoshi’s Island, Star Fox and quite alot of others)
I have to buy a new one as soon as they come up on Analogue's web site (should be next month If I recall). My old one I had given to my father for Father's Day, and I don't want to swipe it back while he's in the middle of playing through some RPGs on it. However, I will be working on the Noir JB Firmware settings, which has a Genesis core in it. If the same code is used for driving the video, then the settings should be interchangeable with the Mega Sg.
Well as I mentioned, there's overscan on the SNES that can be used, so I didn't want to get hit up with "hey this game is being cut off" or something along those lines. However, I can work up a "224 fills the screen vertically" and add that to the text file.
The jailbreak firmwares are created by Kevtris, and he's the lead coder for the official firmwares, so there shouldn't be any compatibility issues that I'm aware of.
Hey man I know this is off topic but what programs did you use to restore Transformers? I used handbrake but 1 frame was skipped and some lines were jagged from inverse telecine correction. If you ever read this, thanks for your time.
Enabling either or both h and v interpolation brings in a small bit of noticible variable latency. When using 8:7 4.5x and lowering the sharpness on the tv to the lower setting it helps a lot and the scrolling is pretty smooth. Gameplay is the most important to me though, i know some people that dont even notice full frames of lag, so having the best picture for them is the way to go.
For 4X scaling of SNES games, I recommend having a horizontal resolution of 1170 over 1169 for 4X (960p) scaling since odd resolutions can cause problems. I also recommend a horizontal resolution of 878 for 3X (720p) scaling. Also, 144 x 5 is 720 so I recommend 1280x1200p for Super Game Boy in 720p if you want a fullscreen with no borders at least on the vertical side, and the borders on the sides would fill up the entire 16:9 display.
You must have missed the part where I explained why I subtracted 1 pixel on those entries: Because the scaling interpolation filter will pull them out 1 pixel anyway, so you end up with 1171 instead of 1170 with the filter active. It doesn't do this behavior on every resolution, just specific ones, so I have to manually check for this oddity on every scale setting. Edit: I see you added a note about Super Game Boy, and I'm afraid you can't set the Super Nt to "1280x1200p" in 720p output mode.

I believe the hot key is Down + Select, but you can change it in the menu settings for hotkeys.

no it only plays snes catridges and everdrives
Are the vertical and horizontal positional settings the same for the non jailbreak firmware? I thought they fixed the official firmware to center the picture by default
I believe they use the same exact settings as the JB firmware, so this should apply to the regular firmware as well.
If I’m remembering correctly, you’re not big on scanlines, but did you by chance check if a vertical position of 28 matches well with them?
The scanline system will move with the active graphics as you adjust vertical position, so it doesn't matter (which is really cool).
