    You can’t beat a lister. I don’t care what anyone says. I have an LD1, which isn’t quite as pretty as a CS, but mine sits untouched year on year and when I want to run it, it starts first swing without fail. Great video. Cheers!

    Time was when this was an ubiquitous sound from many a rural cowshed at milking time, especially in off-grid situations. Such engines would run for three or four hours daily for years on end if given clean fuel and a bit of fresh oil a couple of times a year.

    That sounds lovely, I like the sound the lister makes on a narrowboat as well, there seems to be a shortage of youngsters interested in these old engines, did you used to take it to henham steam rally I went there many years ago? I live about a mile from where the Oldham old time rally is held do you go there? It’s a pity the long Melford rally stopped.

      Not sure if I count as young as I'm just about 30 y/o 😅 but I finally bought my first stationary diesel engine yesterday, real small unit, a Changfa JD165 3.3 hp. Had been sitting for a few years but the original owner said he ran it for about 15 minutes then never ended up using it for anything. Have to clean out the old fuel and brush off some rust, but other than that it's in great shape. Can't wait to get it started, thinking about what I want to use it for. On a side note, the guy who sold me that engine previously had a "Listeroid" or Lister-type clone engine powering a generator with the cooling water circulated into his home's hydronic heating loop so that the engine would both power and heat his home. Said his wife made him sell it & buy a "normal" big box store gas generator that she could use without hand cranking. Shame cause he showed me a photo of his old Lister clone setup & it looked amazing. Compared to the standard noisy and smelly lawnmower engines found on mostly everything today, I love these old stationary engines. Maybe it's not practical when you need to get 20 HP into a small space, but if you have a stationary application, I'd much prefer something like the one shown in this video.

    I've got a lister SL3, and ST2 and I have an Induna engine which is a copy of a lister CS and it is in a terrible conditoin. The fly wheel and crank has broken of and this is how it happened. The previous owner had it pumping water on tiers and it was bouncing so much that it cracked the fly wheel and crank of, but I am still looking for a new crank. I am hoping to get some advice to get a new crank

    Hi great video ... my dad bought a Cs from a guy who bought a big house and there was a Cs in an outbuilding and guy just wanted it gone...be over 25 yrs ago... its clean uncracked...with its original water tank... turns over n will undoubtedly run if got out n tickled up ....what kind of money are they worth these days?? Just curious...keep up the good work

    • @NorfolkMancave
      @NorfolkMancave  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi ya Allen. I do like the CS. Price vary really. The earlier engines are worth a bit more. But to 90%, of people a CS is a CS, regardless of age. The spoked flywheel model were working engines. If the have the heavy more solid flywheels then they came off a Gen set and are a bit less desirable as a stand alone engine. They range in price from 150 to 200 for a None runner to 400 to 600 for a runner depending on age and condition. Thanks for watching.

      @@NorfolkMancave thanks for taking the time for such a detailed reply.... n just too give the full picture ...she's got the spoked flywheels 👍... 3 days ago I bought an ad1 lister petter with hydraulic pump and oil tank complete like a power pack with intentions of getting her going as a means of powering either a log splitter or possibly a static big round bale wrapper .... she was seized with sitting ....turned out when I got into her the only reason she was seized was the flywheel sits In an aluminium housing and the aluminium had corroded and the white oxide had furred up and nipped the flywheel.... I did think of filming the strip down n putting it on u tube for a bit of fun but all the faffing about and and coming at it from different angles with differential tools ect would have made it almost impossible for me so I appreciate how much you put into your videos even more ....the time ...the lighting.....the editing... the story you talk viewers through with ect...its not nearly as easy as you make it look...👍

    Just acquired a CS startomatic generator set. Should i use rubber mounts or just set it on concrete or bolt it down or what ?.

    • @zig_ziggy
      @zig_ziggy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not a Lister owner, but you can see from the videos on old Listers they don't vibrate a lot. With concrete potentially liable to cracking over time, you may want to use a couple of heavy timbers secured in place and bolt the engine to those.

      Weird thing is that when he pointed to where he sprayed the starting stuff in that’s not where are you should spray! The area where those springs of the valves are you are supposed to fill with a thick lubricating oil. If you really need something to start those with WD-40 is the best But don’t use very much and put it in the air cleaner not where those springs are!

    Were you using the cold start valve? I have a 6/1 start-o-matic which starts first time over compression, as long as the injector has been creaked if it has been unused for a while. I'm running mine on used but filtered engine oil, starting on diesel though, until the engine oil has been pre-heated. The Lister CS could be the best, most reliable and long lasting stationary diesel ever made.
