Absolute beauty mate!! Nice score!! Maybe a bit heavy as a solar back up for the van , but it would make a nice power cut genny to put a couple of lights and the wireless on i reckon!! What sort of voltage regulator does it use? I know you said that you don't know much about generators, but that's not really true, you know something about most things and seem to work out the happenings on what what you don't know too. I used one of those after the 87 storm to keep out freezer frozen when we had a week long power cut, every time I felt cold I would pick it up and take it for a walk better than any gym that’s for sure.

In our little collection, we have an E300E, E800E, and an E4000E, but not one of these, nor the next one up. Take a look inside the door of the control box, you might just find a circuit diagram in there - there certainly is on the E4000E. I'm not sure about the E800E without taking a look. I would expect this one to use a current feedback transformer in the excitation circuit - that's pretty much standard fayre for Honda/Sawafuji generators, not counting the sub 800 watt models. It would be interesting to see if it was the case with this one.

I have the same machine in my garage. I bought it about 10 years ago. It is a very heavy machine for it's output. It is an absolute problem to start for the first time after a long storage period. Once started and run it will start with little trouble thereafter if used at least once every week... It has no automatic speed/output regulation and requires constant adjustment as the load varies. A 1700 watt kettle makes it grunt....and 2500 watts is a pipe dream. It's old technology...nearly 50 years old now. I keep it for nostalgia's sake...

Hi Adam, removing the spark plug and heating it a bit usually helps an engine that's been stood a while. Nice little genny and it sounds quite smooth running too👍 happy new year.

That is an old Geny but it's a Honda so you have a tool for life, I have five Honda engines running various machines all are great. Cheers

High end gen set in its day, serious quality, that old girl will not let you down.

You cannot run the generator on another engine as the 70 volt excitation coil is behind the flywheel along with the ignition coil. Also a detergent cleaner such as elbow grease would clean it better followed by wd to protect it
