I think one thing that differentiates Rush fans from fans of other bands is that Rush fans can tell you you when they became Rush fans. As a child of the 70s I remember hearing Working Man, Fly by Night, and Closr to the Heart on the radio. It wasn't unti I was a teenager in the early 80s when I heard Tom Sawyer and became a Rush fan that I made the connection that all those songs were by the same band....mind blowing when you're 15 years old.
If you want to hear something different from RUSH and Geddy's voice, then watch "The Garden" from their Clockwork Angels tour. I literally cry each time I hear it, because it was near the end of them touring, and it was Neil's way of saying "Goodbye". The foreshadowing of what was to come years later is chilling.
That is prolly one of my top 3 Rush performances....I love Geddys voice from every era but The Garden being the last song on their last album and the meaning behind the song it's hard not to be emotional everytime you watch it❤️🇨🇦🎸
There is another Rush song is also very emotional. Song is Red Sector A. Red Sector A is very personal to Geddy Lee because Neil wrote about liberation of Nazi Concentration Camp near Bergen-Belsen. One of the survivors was Geddy Lee's mother, Manya (Mary). His father was held in another concentration near Dachau. Geddy Lee stated his mother has very thick accent. She calls him, "Geddy" as his birth's is Gary Lee. I think this song is a tribute to his parents and other survivors.
Yeah, cause we'd all be so disappointed to see it again and again! hahahaha - you're so funny! Took an ex-girlfriend to a concert and she was an instant fan, watching their documentaries and calling me when she found them. They were special in person, but there was never such a thing as too many times seeing them. Wish I could have seen them more. I've been bugging you for Xanadu. Bring a seat belt. Make sure it's "Exit Stage Left" performance, because it's simply perfection. In the top two all-time live musical performances w-Ghost Love Score at Wacken. I want a front row seat to that reaction, please reserve it for me.
Saw them several times, my wife bought hemispheres for me at a garage sale. Listened to side one a couple of times, didn’t really get it. Then one day decided to listen to side two, while listening I realized the lyrics were included. Then The Trees started playing, poetry put to music. I then started learning to play the songs, have been a diehard fan since.
Redheadedneighbor. Geddys voice became deeper because he couldn't sing the high notes anymore. He didn't sing incorrectly, or abuse his voice, in his younger years. He just "over used" it. Singing in his style, always at a high pitch, finally caught up to him. And of course age changes everything! He's like Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden: he had a great "belt" in his early years, but singing the high notes (which is his signature sound), is not the same now. But these guys are and will always be my heroes. When the news broke here in Canada (and it WAS breaking news), that Neil passed in January of 2020 (just before the pandemic hit us all), I cried... absolutely balled my eyes out for hours! And was very depressed for days and weeks after his death. Rush had come to an end, and would never be again. R.I.P. brother Neil. Anyway, love your reactions. I can tell you really "get" Rush, which is amazing since so many don't get them...at all. Cheers from 🇨🇦.
Very true. Unfortunately Geddy over used his voice in his younger years. Plus he got older, which sucks. They were the best of the best. Didn't get "love" until later years. Were not on mainstream radio, but made it big (or should I say HUGE)! All the best from the home of Rush 🇨🇦.
Another Canadian here. I'm not great with words, but Rush was Canada's best progressive rock/metal band that this country produced. I still miss the Professor, Neil Peart. RIP. Greetings from 🇨🇦.
I suffer from bipolar one major depression along with a holy host of others and it really sux. I'm a drummer and Rush has pulled me through some major hard times, major hard times since 79. When I watch you do these Rush reactions my 62 year old ass sits here and cries like a baby. Joy, sadness, happy, empty, it's hard to explain. But there is some happiness in there and I truly thank you for your Rush videos. Now where's my damn Kleenex?🥴.✌️

Seeing as how ur on A Farewell To Kings Xanadu is a natural next step, do the live version from Exit Stage Left. If you're into Rush documentaries Beyond the Lighted Stage is probably the best one and it's on TH-cam. Nice reaction to this the song that started me on my Rush journey so many decades ago. 😊
I had noted from the recent YYZ Rio video that you like NP's high drumstick tosses. On your talking break you missed a stick toss around 4:49 in. Just thought you might want to know for your rewatch. The crowd even reacts to it afterwards.
Dear Neighbor, in terms of 'Xanadu', the live version from '81 in Montreal is the one to go for 😀👍 And if you do have the extra time to spare, I'd recommend you choose one of the videos that also has 'The Trees' in it, as it segues into 'Xanadu' = 15 minutes of awesomeness 😊

I've learned the Bass of a few of their songs including this and I'm like HOW does he play this AND sing⁉️ So if ever listen to The CAMERA EYE 👁️ Please do the studio. If U haven't seen it, the official video for side 1 of their great album 2112. Plus seeing them perform the same side 1 live. As for connection... Alex and Getty met in High School. They also hold the record for the 2nd band without a lineup change at 41 yrs. #1 of course is The Stones. at 60+????.
Xanadu is an excellent choice. You spoke about Geds voice being more mature so I would suggest after Xanadu, The Garden which is on Clockwork Angels. There's a great live version here on the Tube.
This really brings back memories for me. This was the first tour I saw Rush live. It was a life changing event for me. Just incredible musicians and great chemistry and energy on stage.
I saw them first in 1981 and last in 2015. Never a bad show begonning to end and all points in between. Totally mesmerizing, the way they performed live...
Hi 'Red', you're loving this; you'll go apeshit crazy over the next 3 songs in the batting order: a medley of YYZ, The Temples of Syrinx and Tom Sawyer.!
Good song, but Xanadu will be life changing, (was for me ) I like the longer songs, as they have a tendency to pick you up and take you for a ride. Cheerz!!

Hey RHN!! You had mentioned about how you had wished you could have seen them live. I’ve been to 3 concerts. My first time the played Tom Sawyer as the opener. I instantly started sobbing. Mr. Peart was/is my hero. And I was so moved. I equate it to my pilgrimage to Mecca. I had been wanting this for so many years my emotions took over. This is good but i must agree with the previous commentor, you need need to watch Closer to the Heart Live in Cleveland 2004. That is the best version of the song and the crowd is insane
I think sometimes things are relative. I always wanted to see led zeppelin, jimmy Hendrix the power puff girls lol , to name a few. I know the feeling, only in this case, I was the fortunate , to see rush live many times over the years, I like to say, it was like visiting your best friends, you haven't seen for a quite a time, yet they don't know who you are! lol. definitely Xanadu exit stage left concert, certainly going to fry! some eggs for you. Great reaction as usually
3 simultaneous solos ! ! ! Watching them closely you never see them signaling for transitions, they know each other so well and the music, it’s just pure chemistry.
I remember not that long ago, before the internet and the accessibility to music artists,I was a fan of Rush for years and never saw them live. Now 40 years later and having seen them in concert over 30 times,it’s hard to imagine back to those times and bootleg tapes of their gigs.
Think about it when they put out 2112 the studio told him to make a bunch of radio songs and they said screw it but they thought it was going to bomb and it would be the down the drains to her and they would all go back to what they did before they played music. It's funny because 2112 is when I discovered Russ when I was 13 years old... and then seen them so many times since. I even took my 10-year-old daughter with my wife to see them in 2015 and Nationwide Arena in Columbus Ohio for the last time.
StickHits has dome some really great remasters. When doing live performances, try to use theirs whenever possible. Their concerts were amazing. The energy was always amazing, and their sense of humor second to none. My youngest sons first concert was before he was even born!
The first time I heard Rush was Tom Sawyer in fifth grade and I thought it was the best thing I ever heard. Then over the years I bought all of their albums and they are without a doubt my favorite band. At 25 I played in a Rush tribute band called Counterparts.
The record label told them they needed to put out a radio hit so they put out one of the greatest masterpieces ever,2112, thank you for putting the pressure on
This version was from their Grace Under Pressure tour. This same show has the only time when all of the existing (to this point) parts of the "fear" suite. (I was hoping they would've done them all on the "Snakes and Arrows" tour when they made a fourth song.) That trilogy is worth watching! All three songs are incredible! Even if you gotta break it up into three videos, you should do them all! But these have 2 of my favorite things, Rush, and my Redheaded Neighbor!
The studio versions of Rush songs are so tight. To see them play them live - two words. Absolutely Fantastic!! But, you must do The Garden Live. Very emotional. The last song on their last album.
Geddy & Alex have been best friends since meeting in Middle School in a Suburb of Toronto 1967. Alex is the one that started the Band Rush. The original drummer John Rutsey's Brother named the Band RUSH. They had a bass player that quit after a few weeks. Alex asked Geddy to join the band in September 1968 to be the bass player and singer. You would Love the acoustic Live version of song Resist. I cried the first time I saw Geddy & Alex sitting down and playing this beautiful song. Geddy on a 6-string guitar and Alex on a 12-string guitar. (Magical)I saw Rush 5 times.
Saw them 31 times starting with moving pictures tour . Wish it would have been more . I knew from the beginning I was seeing something that was awesome.
No one makes music like this anymore, not even RUSH. RIP Professor ❤️
This is Forever music; as long as the recordings exist, there will be Rush fans.

Rush was kind of like the most popular underground band, not as much airplay as others but still selling out stadiums.

I literally cry each time I hear it, because it was near the end of them touring, and it was Neil's way of saying "Goodbye". The foreshadowing of what was to come years later is chilling.

I love it in the breakdown near the end they turn int The Police!
I was at this concert, it was the fist of many times I saw Rush live!
StickHits has dome some really great remasters. When doing live performances, try to use theirs whenever possible.
Their concerts were amazing. The energy was always amazing, and their sense of humor second to none. My youngest sons first concert was before he was even born!
2112 live remastered 1997 in Toronto, the best version live of this masterpiece. Also Natural Science, same concert. Musicianship at its best.
The first time I heard Rush was Tom Sawyer in fifth grade and I thought it was the best thing I ever heard. Then over the years I bought all of their albums and they are without a doubt my favorite band. At 25 I played in a Rush tribute band called Counterparts.
The record label told them they needed to put out a radio hit so they put out one of the greatest masterpieces ever,2112, thank you for putting the pressure on
Fan since 1975 when they opened for Ted Nugent in Amarillo, TX. Fanatic ever since.
There is a "supercut" version of this on YT 1977-2015. It shows them through the decades with a great/funny ending section.
Quite an experience as you well know to see and hear their journey through the years along with the rest of us. The Rush experience. Well done..
The studio versions of Rush songs are so tight. To see them play them live - two words. Absolutely Fantastic!! But, you must do The Garden Live. Very emotional. The last song on their last album.
One of my favorite songs from Rush is Role the Bones
Do you have any recommendations for Rush interviews ? There are so many, not sure where to start.
Neil drum solo Live in Frankfurt , you will be blown away
I was there that night
🤯
Hell no...Todd from Ohio...
Hell no...Todd from Ohio...❤
They were an incredible band.
All 3 being able to solo at once. Maybe that's what it takes for a 3 piece band to be this good.
Saw them 31 times starting with moving pictures tour . Wish it would have been more . I knew from the beginning I was seeing something that was awesome.
I didn't know the guitarist from a Flock of seagulls played with Rush! 😜
Lol
