    Great boat, great video, thank you! Your presentations are spot on, Rob.
    Its so nice to see Alubat taking the lead with this innovative design for the flagship vessel of the new range. In a few years, Ovni has gone from old fashioned to cutting edge, and from too mainstream to clearly positioned. The 490 is a statement.
    The level of finish of the interior is perfect, I like the brand's no-nonsense style, while Allure and Garcia have become over the top.
    Rob, I think it would be great if you could give a rationale for the boxy look of the new Alubats. There has to be a benefit for the end user - is it stronger, does it allow better materials, a better quality control, cost savings used for something else...? The look is not for everyone and it would be nice if the Alubat owners had a story to tell. The ultimate reference is Tesla's Cybertruck (be it in a multi billion $ product category). There is a reason for the odd shape. You might have said it already in the promotional material, but it has not registered with me.
    I look forward to your next videos.

    Hi Rob. Love your videos. Always loved ovnis. It so strange that the fantastic pogo 44 hardly has any exposure

    Great idea, can you customize the Pilot house to have a wheel, throttle controls and push buttons for the winches? Also are all the lines run to the cockpit so that you can short hand this yacht and basically never go forward?

    • @alubatamerica
      @alubatamerica  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      With the exception of a steering wheel, yes, you can customize the pilot house. You are correct, all the lines run to the cockpit for short-handed sailors.

      You won't have the wheel, but you can have a repeater for the autopilot - so controling remotely the wheel

    does it keep the philosophy of a unique piece deck hull welded together and all the things (furniture, etc) brought through the companion way door? if yes, by the start it is far better than anyone who do not.

    • @alubatamerica
      @alubatamerica  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! The 100% aluminum construction of the 490 is the same as the full range of Alubat vessels. The aluminum deck is welded to the hull and, with the exception of the engine, the furniture and components are brought in through the companion way.

    As longer distance single-hander, it saddens me that nowadays manufactures, especially for blue water cruisers, move to a side galley concept as well, completely ignoring the comfortability of having both arms free while making the chores of the very important part of our life.

      As a matter of fact, if we do have to split hairs, which of these two awesome aluminium boats are the better, then throw in also Allures, and consider one thing: Garcia and Allures, great boats on their own right, but they are build on the same yard and only the hull is aluminium. The deck and all above deck is actually high quality GRP, that to save weight, apparently. Also, it is significantly cheaper to build that way, especially because of the way Alubat have to assemble the boats, being all aluminium and low maintenance, hull, deck and the raised parts of boat too. Garcia and Allures can build the hulls and then install already finished interior equipment into the boat and then install the deck and roof of the boat, while Alubat is one connected hull and the interior equipment therefore has to be hand build onboard the boat. So, I would definitely claim, that Alubat are better all the way. A true aluminium explorer yacht and not just a glorified tin can with a plastic lid!

      Yours is a somewhat childish post. Yes, many teenagers in their straighforward simpleton simplicity come to believe that fully aluminum boats are somehow superior due to some perceived conceptual clarity I suppose. This is not the case. Each material has its positive and negative sides. Aluminum is more ductile and will better absorb impact, so its best used in the hull. But it needs to be well insulated (well), has no sound dampening quality (i.e. without absorptive coat it will ring like a bell with every slap of a wave), is electrically conductive - so extra care needs to be taken with all of electrical systems of which there are plenty), and very susceptible to galvanic erotion anywhere it comes in contact with 'nobler' metals like steel and bronze. Not to mention that it has material fatigue and after about 20 years will become more brittle and can crack instead of bending on impact. It totally makes sense to use GRP for deck, deckhouse, etc.
      Now, lets just say it- Alures is made by Garcia (yes, they are made in the same yard, but the yard is owned by Garcia.) All these boats, and Belstevaer too have the elegance of a turtle, and about same speed. French JFA are a little faster but a little less hardy. Then, for the classically inclined there is Hutting. But let's be honest, how many people will need any of these for visiting a Bering Sea, Patagonia, or Antarcric shores? Most "normal" yachtsmen will be much better off and happier as well with GRP-hulled Rassy or Nayad or Kraken, or if money is abundant, Contest... if one wants a smaller explorer, Django is great too.
