@@mattsterpiecenjmaflva9956 I hope you have learned by now not to take it for granite that he doesn't actually mean "all intensive purposes", irregardless of the comma nexpression.
This is exactly the video I needed! After watching way way too many reviews this is the simplest way to get my friends radios without having to explain ham shit or confuckulate them with shitty menus. Thanks!
For me & those who use these radios around me we want & need simple as when the crud hits the fan & everyone is stressed out, they can use the radios even under duress. so for us simple is way much better.
You should do a video for "TheNotaRubicon" recommended GMRS base rig (radio and antenna) for the home/shop. I think you have the mobile and handheld covered pretty well.
One of the coolest features about the Wouxun KG-905G is the battery. You can charge it directly with its built in USB-C port and there are colored LEDs on the battery to indicate charge status.
Gotta say, first time watching your videos…actually looked up the word “confuculating”. couldn’t find it, then it hit me 😅 (should have keep watching vid)…with that said, thanks for the info for a first time GMRS user. 👍🏼
I felt kind of singled out regarding the "crave complexity" thing. But then I realized Randy's right - at least about radios and gadgets and gear... Guilty. But then, one of these styles of radio might make a great one to have on hand for my wife when we're camping/hiking. She is not into complexity in gadgets and gear.
I got the GMRS Pro so that I could program repeaters if I were traveling. The Bluetooth programming feature was a plus because it would be faster than Chirp or the Tidradio Bluetooth programmer (which works on a some of my GMRS). I realize I lose the superhet resolution. Will I buy Wouxun radios? Yes, when it comes time to replace my older GMRS radios.
Hi! Im new to the GMRS radio world and love your videos! We just went through Hurricane Beryl and we were without power, cell phones, and internet for nearly a week. Members of our extended family want a simple GMRS radio for emergency communications. How would these radios compare to the RockyTalkie 5 watt?
I use a very simple GMRS capable radio to confuse the radio geeks. It is the most simple to use radio you can buy. It has NO display and NO keyboard. It has only two rotary control knobs that are not labeled in any way. One knob for power/volume. Other for changing the channel. It costs a lot less than the radios shown in this video. It is the Arcshell AR-6 for the WIN!
I have several Wouxun 805's. They work and we use them for around the homestead comms and when traveling with our friends. Randy how about reviewing the Harris PRC152 system someday.
This was a great video: informative and entertaining. One question: for a person like myself who cannot see a screen at all no matter how simple, would you recommend one of these picks or something more complicated that might have annunciator functions?
Would the Wouxun kg805 be a good radio for a jeep club trail ride? It was all CB radio's then everyone started to get all fancy with the gmrs so now it's time to upgrade.
Question - Would using a handheld GMRS radio in a vehicle work well (as in, from the driver's seat, with the antenna inside the metal box of the car) , or is it more advisable to use a purpose made vehicle type GMRS radio, but sacrificing that connectivity when away from the vehicle? And, why? Thanks!
It depends on your needs. If you are just talking with guys in your group while off-roading or driving on the highway, and you're only 1/2 mile apart or so, then in the car with an HT is probably fine. If you need more farz, then a high-powered mobile GMRS radio with an antenna on the roof is going to work much better. I use both.
They are replaceable, but in my experience and based on my testing, the pre-tuned GMRS antennas that come with all of these radios work just as good as any of the "better" rubber-ducky antennas.
I’m using a generic UV5r & I’ve had a stroke which has taken a lot of my tech understanding away.. I’m looking for a simple & cheap GMRS handheld radio.. FRS/GMRS usually means it is a GMRS radio, and since GMRS shares frequencies with FRS, they call it a 'combo' ... But because its a GMRS radio the FCC says you still need a license.
Baofeng BF-888S is SUPER simple. Power/volume knob, and a 16 position channel knob. Thats it. Doesn't even have a screen. Can program for repeaters and whatnot using chirp for confuckulatiom

An actual serious question here as a somewhat new user to the GMRS world. Why is it that these two very basic radios cost so much more than the more advanced/complicated radios that you can buy? You would think it would be the other way around.
To help prevent conphuckulation from anyone reading this, that Alinco DR-438T is not a GMRS radio, it is a LMR radio. It can transmit on GMRS frequencies, but it is not a "GMRS radio".
Since most gmrs hand-helds have the same amount of FARS, and if the level of confuckulation is of no consequence, what in you opinion justifies spending 3x moro on a KG-805G over Baofeng UV-5G?
Other/additional features, ease of use, build-quality, quality control, customer support - because these things matter to ME ... If these things do not matter to YOU, then, it cant be justified. Please remember: ME and YOU are not the same, we have different needs and desires in a radio. You buy what you want, I will buy what I want.
