    Thank you all so much for the overwhelmingly positive response! I will definitely turn this into a series now. The main advantage is that these videos don't take very long to create so I can easily do them in addition to my usual content.

      I really enjoyed the concept of this. Well executed too! Though, I do wish you had spent some more time optimising the ratings of the ride to really push the limits of what you could do in the spirit of the Lessardo's request. This is something I think you are really good at, and something I really like to see you doing. I really enjoyed this video and am keen to see more!

    Alright, now this is the quality content I'm after.
    Any chance of a video about running cost? Because I had no clue that having a chainlift, boosters, launch etc. influenced running cost (although I can definitely understand why). I just assumed it was fixed based on ride type & length & maybe age, but honestly I never bothered checking since any half-decent design will have income that far outstrips running cost so it's not really something to worry about

    • @stylesrj
      @stylesrj 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Running costs are a thing?
      (Yes I know they are but in the grand scheme of things, you are right... it's nothing to worry about even though IRL maintenance costs would be pretty high)

    • @stephentai3730
      @stephentai3730 4 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      The main expense is the chain lift, at $80 per hour per lift up to 4 lifts. A lift consists of consecutive lift pieces, so interrupting a lift hill with 1 non-lift piece turns it into 2 lifts. Brakes are $20 per hour per piece, block brakes are free, boosters are free. Ride length, number of trains, and number of cars per train have an effect on cost independently of each other, not sure how much.

    • @WhitedevilEE
      @WhitedevilEE 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      well.. it's easy to explain tbh...
      If you look at real life coasters: Chainlifts and launches have to be powered/maintanace/tested every day, some parts need replacement mabe.
      IF you have a coaster without any moveing parts in it (besides the trains that is) you don't need to check that many parts.

      I remember being a child and in order to get the average speed up to increase throughput, I built a corksrew coaster with boosters instead of chainlifts, and I think I ended up with about 2k in running costs, and wasn't even very effective since the boosters were really weak and didn't really work as a lifthill substitute. I just noticed something similar to this with the Vertical Drop Coaster. When a car goes up from a steep 45° slope to an even piece, it gains a small amount of speed. If the car starts to touch the steep-to-even slope, it will accelerate up to 8 km/h when going up. If the even piece is followed up with a steep drop (to make a steep hill), it actually causes you to be speed neutral. You'll keep at least at 8 km/h and can pass as many of these steep hills as long as you have enough momentum left to touch the start of the next steep-to-even transition piece.

So yes, viewers challenging you or setting challenges for yourself, to showcase your design skills and strategies and knowledge of the game, will be entertaining and informative. Even in this one example, you might have even surprised yourself with the finished product, a low cost, high throughput, good stats coaster that is cheap to maintain and pleasant to look at. This game is really great for players who are thoughtful and put as much thought into every turn and drop on their coaster designs as possible, and you put a lot of thought into it.

    This seems like a really cool idea, and I think especially if you do 2 or 3 challenges to lengthen each video out to something like 10 minutes (ad money heyo) it could work really well. The one thing I would do is define a couple of extra rules for completing the challenge to keep the builds more implementable in a normal game, sort of like what you did with not allowing scenery. Defining length, footprint, and/or cost restrictions would probably do it

      A mega maze or a mega labyrinth?
      Because a mega maze would probably end up being frustrating "NO! It's that way! Don't go down that dead end again!"

      A maze has dead ends and stuff. A labyrinth is just a single path that twists and turns but you can't really get lost in it unless you're dropped in the middle.
      After all, the Minotaur would have had to have navigated it as well and well how can it eat if it's also lost? :D

    I wonder about a possible ride overview for some of the water rides in the game, like the Dinghy Slide, log flume, and river rapids. Even the water coaster. I know they're easy enough to grasp the concept of, but I'm curious to see what optimized builds you'd come up with for those & what insane contraptions would come out of em.

  • @SuchBigglesworthy
    @SuchBigglesworthy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I love it! Here is my idea for the next challenge: make the cheapest coaster you can with 10+ excitement. Scenery can be used, but must all be savable/prebuildable (so no underground/water elements). Try to make it look relatively natural, with no floating paths or track pieces.

    • @MarcelVos
      @MarcelVos  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am tempting to do this challenge cause I really like it, but I cannot do 'cheapest' and 'somewhat realistic' at the same time. There is always a grey area where something is not really realistic but maybe it is depending on who you ask and I like to avoid that.

    • @SuchBigglesworthy
      @SuchBigglesworthy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MarcelVos I don't think "somewhat realistic" needs to be taken all that seriously - just consider it a ban on floating paths or track elements, and everything else is fair game. Make the queue/exit paths, placed scenery, and the ride itself as wild as you like to get all those bonuses.
      Or just forget that part of it all together - I, and probably many others, would love to see the cheapest 10+ excitement coaster with no restrictions, too.

    My challenge request, some of which I have accomplished.
    1. In 10 by 10 area, build a coaster whose length exceeds 4,000m, with intensity lower than 10.00, which I have done in RCTClassic.
    2. Break Coaster Crazy or Razor Rocks without guests, without using multiple circuit function. In case of Razor Rocks someone in a Korean RCT community accomplished it with RCT1.

    Challenge: beat the hardest scenario, but you must keep the lawn mown at all times as soon as possible, and you can't use the handymen who are mowing for anything but mowing! You also can't replace the grass with anything either.

  • @Dr_Hug

    I played tons of vanilla back in the day. I downloaded RCT Classic for my iPad after finding your channel. I appreciate it even more now!
    Potential Topics for new Videos:
    Do pathways work differently when they're only 1 tiles wide? Or is there an advantage to having paths be extra wide (2 tiles wide or more). I always had guest get lost whenever I make the paths wider than the usual 1-tile width, but just wanted a definitive answer!
    Could you do a video elaborating on the Hedge Mazes? Such a unique ride.
    In RCT Classic, there's a scenery feature called "Queue Line TV" do these help ease peep's frustration in waiting in lines?
    Why do you think they eliminated the ability to charge entry fees to parks in most scenarios?
    Does Cutting the Grass do anything?
    Or maybe a video explaining all the various awards your park can win?
    Are boat hires without tracks more fun than boat hires with tracks?
    Thanks & Keep up the good work!

    Beat a scenario that has a park rating requirement but you have to:
    - Build one flat ride right at the park entrance. Make sure the queue is connected to the first tile after the entrance.
    - Charge nothing for this ride and place its exit over water.
    - Also don't modify the operation of the ride or do anything to deter guests from riding such as one way signs, confusing path layouts, ect.

    Hi Marcel, I'm curious what are the highest stats you can get on a ride that fits in a square of a certain size. For instance, what coaster is the best for a 6x6 square, what about a 10x10 square, 20x20? I'm curious to see the points at which it becomes better to switch coaster types as the extra space allows for different designs. Thank you so much for the informative and relaxing videos!
