Thank you very much! It's a complicated equation and even though I had checked my work twice I was worried a mistake might've creeped in, but it's nice to know that that isn't the case.

I was about half way round until my soul was ripped out of my body. Having ridden go karts twice before this game's release...yeah...there's a good reason why you don't want to cover too much of the track of the go karts. It's a ride with a LOT of fumes if they are not allowed to air out and not a lot of people want to smell the fumes from the gasoline. Modern go karts might be different, but that was the state of go karts in the 90s

    • @ProvidenceNL

    • @jefffinkbonner9551
      @jefffinkbonner9551 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

It’s not so much the roof as it is the walls (with a roof). It’d be cool if it’d let you cover a track for aesthetics and/or keep the rain off but as long as it’s open-air on the sides there’d be no stat penalties and would actually boost guest stats when it rains. “Go karts 1 was great during the rainstorm!”

I feel this is a potential for OpenRCT2 to improve. It'd be breaking from norms of Vanilla/Classic but maybe when you run a coaster, they could add a little bit of "Construction Tips" or something, with more general advice like "more drops would increase excitement" or "the coaster is very short" - general advice that hints to the existence of these stat penalty triggers without turning it into a min-max thing where you feel like every coaster _must_ satisfy them all.

Hey, Marcel Vos is back! Superb analyses and explanation as always!
These 'stat requirements' were things that bugged me not when I was a total beginner, but when I became sort-of intermediate-level player. Back then, I wondered why my go karts had such low stats despite my improvement on underground building skills (because the ride had too much underground sections), or my compactly-built reverser coaster resulted in very low excitement ratings (because it had no reverser track pieces).

@@Green24152 In RCT2 ride cars crash and explode if they come off the track. Guests on a mini golf have no visible cars, but they still count as being in ride "cars" from an engine point of view and will still explode if they come off the track.
In normal game play cars coming off the track is something that should only be able to happen on rides that either have an explicit mechanic of cars coming off (e.g. the bobsled) or on coaster types with powered launch, reverse incline launch or similar modes which can be opened/tested without a complete track. On most tracked rides the ride can only be opened/tested when it has a complete circuit, guests can remain on a ride after it's closed but opening the ride for editing will reset the ride, deleting the cars and teleporting the guests to the ride exit.
However openrct2 has the "tile inspector" in the cheats menu which allows a ride to be modified while bypassing the normal safegaurds. So it is possible to break the track on any ride while it is operating and hence produce exploding golfers.

A chairlift having some nausea rating definitely makes sense if you have a fear of heights. I remember as a kid when I rode a theme park chairlift in real life, I wasn't bored, just scared out of my wits and wanted to get off. Especially when it was going over the pond.

So I just recently started playing RCT2 -- I've played the ever living heck out of RCT: Deluxe as that was what I grew up with. Have to say, although the two games look so similar on the surface, RCT2 really does add some neat improvements I wasn't even aware I wanted. Both games are amazing but with the added features of RCT2 and the fact that open RCT2 is built to mod RCT2, that second one does seem to be a no brainer.
Anyway, working through RCT2's scenarios now and this channel is going to be extremely handy.

I recently built the smallest figure 8 Go-Kart track you make, and still cross over your own track, with a bit of a fenced garden look to the scenery. I left it open, because I knew you didn't want to cover your go-karts from watching this video before, but it still got halved excitement. I spent a good hour or two in "RCT Classic" trying to figure out what was going on. Turns out that the small flat steel grid structure-piece I put UNDER the two hills that are in that design, counted as the Karts being "more than 50% covered" after ten laps, and that's why I got the tanked excitement. Removed those 4 pieces (again, from UNDERNEATH the track), and the whole ride went back to normal. It was a weird one.
PS: This is a partial copy/paste from my comment in your video covering go karts specifically, because it's an important bit of information to know for people in that video as well.

Quick question but context first: I once built a park on RCT1 designed to imprison people...free park entry, 1 ride with free admission...that's dumps you in the other half of the park where there are only bathrooms and other kiosks charging max or near max for everything...
Is there anyway I can filter out guests as soon as they run out of money but not before? And is there any way I can entice more people to actually take the small ride? Often times people would about face and walk out of the park so I had to make like...3 rides to dump people into the extraction zone

In RCT2 (vanilla no mods) I've built multiple go-kart tracks with over 75% underground, and didn't seem to run into any stat penalties...
Edit: Well now I had to go look to be sure, and the racetracks of mine in question do actually pop out of the sides of hills and mountains enough that they might actually be only 75% covered. I thought it made the tracks more interesting... turns out I was more right than I suspected!

Early on in playing around with RCT, I couldn't figure out how to build rollercoasters properly as they always ended up boring, yet extremely intense and nauseating. I worked it out, but its interesting to see that some of that could have been fixed by punking the game and reducing the stats by a tiny primary run preluding the secondary, but actual, run.
