    To address the “combat” question, there is the UAS program that is direct support for NSW. But you have to be in the fleet for at least a couple tours and there’s a selection process.

    • @TheRescueSwimmer
      @TheRescueSwimmer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes and no. UAS is out of rate, anyone from an aviation maintenance to a crewman can be a UAS operator. Sometimes they don’t even go out with the teams they are with. Again most UAS operators don’t ever see combat.

    Hey jeff im deciding on wanting to pursue Navy DMT or aviation rescue swimmer school, im currently running all week, swimming 1000m 5-6 times a week, and doing 250+ push ups/50 pulls, 250 sit ups 3 times a week, while doing up to sets of 50 4 count flutter kicks in between some of those sets.
    I still feel greatly underprepared though, I know that there will be certain evolutions that will be hard. I find it hard to practice fins & treading because all i have is a 4ft pool available to me, and its hard for me to swim freestyle consistently. I can swim a side stroke petty well though.
    started practicing my underwater swims as well, was only able to swim a complete 25m underwater once, i think i had a mental plateau after that and only got around 20m after that. I dont have a specific question but when reading this. if you have any advice i would love to hear any!!!

    I earned the contract for air rescue swimmer in June and I leave for basic Aug 26 2019. I have been working out religiously since I depped in February. I want to be part of the team that does personnel extraction missions and also help State side when hurricanes hit the east coast. Is this even possible?

      Could Airr/sar help me get a job as a emergency Management coordinater post Navy?

  • @PeristroFist

    I've been training daily for the AIRR position but I am worried that in the 8+ weeks of bootcamp/processing we wont have a chance to do enough swimming/other core workouts to stay in SOF shape since all they do is march, pushups, situps, and pullups. Is this common?
    And for those of us who have balanced plant-based diets and plenty vegetable nutrition and vitamins, is the unorganic cafeteria food in bootcamp / a school ever a problem?
    Would super appreciate some advice on this as I'm going in this year..

      What's up brother, I got my AIRR contract and I leave July 27th, the sad reality is that yes we will lose some of the endurance and strength that we've obtained during our training and during the pst's the navy's primary goal in bootcamp is to make us sailors first, the best thing we can do is capitalize during our dive mo sessions and give it everything we got, and also our two pt sessions, everyone is going to lose some strength but we'll gain it back once we're forced to go through the hell of RSS haha but that's what makes it fun dude we'll be pushed beyond what we think is capable of ourselves and we will come out stronger and as for the plant deit, I'd suggest not eating just plants during training cus quiet frankly I highly doubt the food they serve will have enough plant based foods to satisfy your appetite, best bet is to eat a well balanced meal of carbs and protein, and greens. Anyways good luck brother we're gunna need it 👍

      get yourself a mask, some fins and a snorkel. Get use to doing 25, 50 and 100 meter sprints in that with 30 seconds between treading water without your arms between intervals.

    • @TheRescueSwimmer

    Just curious what you think is more difficult. Aviation rescue swimmer school or surface rescue swimmer school? I know arss is considered a “special program” and you have to take PST’s and stuff to get selected but do you have to do that for surface rescue swimmer school?

    Hey! Thank you for the video! I want to be a rescue swimmer with all my heart the moment I heard it was a thing I was drawn to it! (Specifically a Coast Guard AST) I come from a sailing family and I want to be on the water for people like my dad who sails! Ive been doing a Murphy workout every day which consists of a mile run 100 pull-ups 200 pushups 300 squats ended with a mile run and I’ve cut my time down to 32 minutes.. but I feel like I haven’t gained the level of water confidence that I want so what do you advise? Advanced swim lessons? Pool membership? I’m 17 so I have some time to train like crazy.. also I’m only 5’10 and 170.. and I’ve pretty much been that way for 2 years will my height be a problem?

    • @TheRescueSwimmer
      @TheRescueSwimmer  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Judson that's awesome, Murph is a good workout! I would recommend AST for what you are looking into. As far as height is concerned if you're flying in the H-60. The shorter you are the more beneficial it is IMHO. I'm 6 ft and I'm hunched over in the cabin while flying. A pool is beneficial for working with swim technique and working with a mast fins and snorkel. You can still strength and condition using other means like i describe in my latest video I posted.

    I am very comfortable in the water I surf and have been swimming since a young age not on team but more because of the connection I have with the water I have been fully training for a month now and feel great I swim 1500 feet every other day and run everyday with waits in book bag for resistance and I do intervals sometimes I won’t use the book bag and I will use the training mask for my cardiovascular system because all in all I want to keep my lungs in shape I also surf which is a plus but I’m around 215 but I perform as if I’m lighter I don’t know how but maybe it’s because of the drive that I have mentally and physically I always wanted to become a rescue swimmer whether it’s for the navy so after a couple years there I could become a navy seal engineer or medic or go into the coast guard and live life to the fullest but my fear is they gonna say I’m a bit heavy are their exceptions if you perform well at your weight.

    I was cleary asking what the physical fitness requirements are for (SRSS - Surface Rescue Swimmer ? What type of equipment will be useing if we manly deal with Snorkel & Fins or will we be useing the Draggerlar 5, SCUBA - Self Contained Breathing Apparatus & UBA - Underwater Breathing Apparatus as well ?

    • @TheRescueSwimmer
      @TheRescueSwimmer  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No SCUBA is required for AIRR. If you would ever even need SCUBA (which you never will, due to dive tables and flight restrictions after diving) for air rescue SAR, your going to be diving for a body. There are a lot of physical requirements to complete SRSS, so much, it would take me 10 page paper to spell out for during the course. The in-test requires are pull-ups, push-ups, sit-ups, 1.5 mile run and 400 meter swim all for time.

      Hey Boats! Your best bet is honestly talking to a recruiter with him. If they offer him something else, he has no obligation to accept it. I don't know if things have changed, but they normally want offer anything unless he goes to MEPS. At the recruiters they will only tell him what he is potentially eligible for. Hope this helps.
