    This is great Barbara. I purchased your shawl pattern that is this shape and has the beautiful lace bottom. I'm a bit intimidated to start because it is the most ambitious thing I have attempted. This helped a lot. Knowing what I'm supposed to see emerge helps me to picture it in my head. Your relaxed, fun approach is just my speed. I want to thank you Barbara for this awesome video😊! I have been struggling with a certain shawl pattern, because I'm not an experienced knitter~I learned from my sister when I was 12, and she learned from our paternal grandmother (who taught me how to tat), so knitting is a generational gift, which I want to perpetuate🥰. I'm more experienced with crochet (55 years~ learned from my mother, who learned from our neighbor from Norway😊)~ but I can't wrap my head around the knitting techniques for shawl knitting (yet, lol😄). This video has helped me so much~ thank you very much for posting this😍🤩!

Have knitted for almost 60 years, but only did simple things cause I would forget the stitch, the count or things wouldn't fit. Even though you left hand throw the yarn, this time I could follow, cause before, you would start knitting, and I would get lost ....💖💖🎵😘

    Thank you for the new tiny shawl pattern! I totally thought about making a baby doll blanket when you were describing the four wedge shawl. Most triangle shawls are isosceles triangles.
    Spoiler alert: I love that you quickly discovered a missed yarn over and did a repair demo.

    1) all three sides of an equilateral triangle are the same length
    2) Isosceles triangles have two sides with the same length

    Hi Barbara, I am so glad you talk through each row of the pattern! When you first said it was a three wedge shawl I pictured making three different wedges and then sewing them together. I'm so glad that's not what is required! In the future when you use paper to illustrate a concept I would greatly appreciate it if the paper were a different color than the table. I could see the color of your hands moving and I'm assuming there was paper you were manipulating to show the concept, put all I saw was wavy motions. LOL I love your explanation of drape - that shwls need to be flooopy.

    • @WatchBarbaraKnit
      @WatchBarbaraKnit  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      When I was editing the video I was concerned about the contrast in that part and you are completely right, I should have used either a different color paper or a different color background. I will try to to better next time.

    Help! I’m looking for the pattern for a knit parallelogram scarf/wrap.
    There are several diagonal knitting patterns that become a rectangle shape.
    How do I get the parallelogram shape??
    I know it’s a simple variation of that diagonal pattern
    Please help!?

    • @WatchBarbaraKnit
      @WatchBarbaraKnit  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, the biased true rectangles are more difficult than the parallelogram. For the parallelogram you just cast on and knit on the bias. The only complicated part comes in when you are doing the math for the cast on because your cast on has a weird relationship to the width, you have to cast on more stitches than you think.

  • @synapsenfehler
    @synapsenfehler 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello, this is a great video and it gave me an idea, I don't know if someone asked this already BUT... wouldn't it be possible to make it 5 wedges? I hate it when shawls have an open gap or constantly fall off my shoulder (I am a very restless person and move a lot, even when I am just chilling) and having an extra wedge would eliminate this issue, right? also would it be smart to actually make it in one go, or would it be better to maybe make a 3 wedge shawl and a 2 wedge one and join them together?

    • @WatchBarbaraKnit
      @WatchBarbaraKnit  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can certainly do 5 wedges, but this 3 wedge one stays on pretty well. And then there are 4 wedge ones that also stay on really well for example this one: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/garter-dollop

    Dear Barbara, I happily discovered you yesterday and fell in love with the Heart-Shaped Shawl . Here's the rub...I have begun that pattern at least 7 or 8 times (not miss-keyed) and have been unable to conquer it. This is not normal for me; giving you the numbers, I began knitting at the age of 7 and I am now a fiber "nut" and a retired accountant. I just sat down and began the 3-Wedge Shawl pattern; I am spot-on the very first time, all the way thru the whole page. HELP! (I can scream when I'm alone, like now.) I have tried everything I can think of, except standing on my head in a corner, to no avail. I really do like the Heart-Shaped Shawl, but will also continue with the 3-Wedge Shawl. Awaiting your kind reply. pj stitches!

    • @WatchBarbaraKnit
      @WatchBarbaraKnit  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m afraid I don’t know what advice I can provide that isn’t in the step-by-step heart shaped shawl video. Are you possibly having difficulties with the kYOk increase? I’m truly sorry this is so frustrating for you.

  • @ooohlaa13
    @ooohlaa13 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have for years been hunting a shawl pattern that doesn't have those skinny rat tail endings that curl up and just look stringy. (Having at least 3 at a time indoor/outdoor cats who gift me with their dragged in prey I have bad associations to those wispy edges on most triangular shawls). Am I wrong in thinking Jen's edges here are more angular and robust? I will be starting with using up worsted stash yarns and when I get the hang, useo a combo of strands. I normally knit with multi strands but with all these yarn overs, there's no way I will get thru more than a few rows without mistakes. My second question is if you left the error would it just show up in that one place or probably the count totally off thereby screwing up the whole thing? In other words, could you have just added in an extra stitch above and not rescue the missed YO?Thanx for your meticulous attention to all you do, and your playful and you can do it too!!
    approach. Blessings!

    • @WatchBarbaraKnit
      @WatchBarbaraKnit  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could replace the yarn overs with make ones if that helps you. You just need increases. Stitch markers can really help with this. If the count is off by a wee bit then it shouldn't be a huge issue. But with the yarn overs it would be very visible in the increase lines if one was missing.

  • @courag1

    Great design and tutorial as always. But one question: on your little model/doll is wearing the shawl, due to the cast on of 11 stitches and the way it is all divided up, it make a little semi-circle which actually fits the doll's neck very well. But since God blessed me wth thumbs, it becomes my model.
    Do you find that the give of the yarn is enough to make the curve around the full sized neck of an adult as the 11 stitch is wrapping around your space cadet doll's neck? If I made one of your other tiny shawls, i could probably calculate the curve I'd need. Think it is a worthy project, cool to figure it out.

    • @WatchBarbaraKnit
      @WatchBarbaraKnit  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Once it gets larger that really doesn't factor into things. The curve doesn't get any larger it just sits at the back of your neck. If you don't like the curve you can use the pattern's instructions on making a garter tab.
