    Lost my knitting mojo almost a year ago and this pattern has brought me back in to wanting to knit again. After a decade of knitting, I just couldn't bring myself to pick up needles and yarn. Thank you being so encouraging and positive and for such lovely items to knit on your website.

    I bought the pattern thinking it would have an explanation on how to start decreasing down so both sides match and it doesn’t. Only says how to do rows one and two and not how to finish it. This may be something self explanatory but for beginners like it says on the video, it’s not.

    • @ExpressionFiberArts
      @ExpressionFiberArts  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Rosetta, thank you for your message.
      Yes, the Sonder pattern is a very beginner pattern that only needs 2 rows that are repeated until you reach your desired size. I assume you're talking about binding off (BO) when you refer to decreasing. The pattern offers a link to a video for "Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off" (th-cam.com/video/_uE8DOk1nl4/w-d-xo.html). That video explains how to finish this shawl and many other knitted projects.
      I hope this helps and you'll be able to follow on how to do the bind off your shawl.
      Have a nice day! 💕

    I made this shawl in a practice form using acrylic yarn before I use the beautiful yarn I purchased from you. I notice that my cast off edge, using Jenny's cast off, is much longer than the other edge. The shape of my shawl is a boomerang. The longer edge seems way to long. Did I do something wrong? Hi Kathy, thank you for your comment. It is possible that your knitting is quite loose (that is not a bead thing) and thus when you use the super stretchy Jeny's Bind Off Method that it get's very long. I'd suggest using another bind off technique (like k2, *pass first st over second st, then k1; rep from * to end) just to make both edges more even. I hope this helps. Have a nice day! 🥰

    • @ExpressionFiberArts
      @ExpressionFiberArts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, you'll never decrease. Because you're adding stitches just on the RS rows, your shawl will have an asymmetrical shape. The yo and k2tog on WS rows "cancel" each other out. And so this manner of increasing creates the triangle shape. You don't decrease to make the far end points. They happen as a result of the way the shawl grows.

    • @ExpressionFiberArts
      @ExpressionFiberArts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jaylyn, thank you for your question.
      For the Sonder shawl the first row after casting on 4 stitches is: knit 2, yarn over, knit 1, yarn over, knit 1. Then for the following odd numbered rows you'll knit until 2 stitches remain and do a yo, k1, yo, k1 at the end.
      Hope this makes sense. Let me know if anything is unclear.
      Have a great day!

    • @ExpressionFiberArts
      @ExpressionFiberArts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The yarn overs along the one edge will create holes that might look like loops, is that what you're referring to? If so, that's just the design of the shawl. If it's something else, it could be an issue with your tension on the edge stitches.

    I'm an experienced crocheter, but when it comes to knitting I got stuck on the most basilar things, so I completely fell in love with this project...
    It's fast, easy but not boringly plain, rewarding and 100% me-proof 😂👍
    but now that I'm almost finished I've realized that the video didn't mentioned anything about bind-off, and I'm freaking out a little... 😶
    all knit-wise will do? and should I do a few rounds without the yo before? to "match" the CO4 of the other corner?
    😅 oh, well, I'll come up with something...

      Hi Merlyn, thank you for your question. I'm happy to help.
      From what you describe I think you're doing everything correctly. When working the Sonder shawl you will be increasing constantly on one side and should end with a lot of stitches on your needles. When you bind these stitches off there will be a long edge and that is just what you want. Does that sound like what's happening to you?

    Ok am I the only one that doesn’t understand any of her videos? I’ve been knitting since I was a kid. Does it seem backwards to anyone else? I tried the crochet version of this shawl and gave up after 5 tries too. Is she left handed? Or why does it seem so strange? I did learn how to knit back in Russia, maybe that’s why I don’t understand? We never started from the top stitch. Always knit with the back of the stitch. I can’t even make it go through the way she shows it. Omg someone help! I’ve been trying to do this for over a week now 😩😩😩😩😩😩

    I’m very new to knitting - started with crochet - and I’m trying this out. I tried it first with a weight 3 yarn, gave up because of too many mistakes. Then now with weight 5. I thought this would just make it chunkier, maybe faster for me to work up as a beginner but it’s curving a whole bunch. Is this normal for knitting? Do I need to do some sort of blocking to make it straighter when it’s done? It almost seems like it tapers too much one one side or extends too quickly on the other and I’m just confused haha.

    • @ExpressionFiberArts
      @ExpressionFiberArts  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Sarra, the Sonder is actually not straight on all the edges. The wides edge will be curved a bit. YOu'll see this when you download the pattern there is a schematic given (www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/sonder.html).
      Also, usually one blocks knitted items after completing them to dimensions and straightening out edges. Just soak the shawl for 20 minutes in lukewarm water, press out the excess moisture with a towel. Lay the shawl flat, pin to shape, and allow to dry. I hope this helps. Have a lovely day! 💕

    • @ExpressionFiberArts

    Hello, I'm trying this out as my first project but there seems to be a problem... The edge of the shawl which is the end of R1 and beginning of R2 has holes. They are regular and seem to be where there's the yarn over. But I don't see that row of holes on the shawl you display in the video. What am I doing wrong? Also, at end of R1, where it says "included 2 sts"--what does that mean? There are only 2 sts before doing a YO, then a K, then YO...so there's only one final st to K. Why does pattern say "K (incl. 2 sts)" at the end of R1? HELP!

    • @ExpressionFiberArts

    • @ExpressionFiberArts
      @ExpressionFiberArts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We do have holes on our shawl, which are caused by yarn overs. When you block your shawl, they should even out and your shawl will be beautiful. When you get to the final two stitches, you do a yarn over, knit that stitch and then do another yarn over and knit the final stitch. Does that help a little? Please let me know.
