    I've been knitting for a month and making all the mistakes you mentioned in your video - I've become so despondent because other people explain how to fix the mistake but I want to know how to avoid and UNDERSTAND why I'm doing it. THANK YOU for your wonderful, informative explanations! Not feeling despondent anymore :)

    I guess you know that you are the fairy godmother for many of us as we learn to knit & learn to knit better. My lovely Canadian friend & guru, I haven’t been knitting long, but it’s feels like I’m getting it, because you have been teaching me every single day through your videos. I have made all these mistakes many times, already & am relieved to know that they are common. Six weeks ago, first sampler strips were thrown away immediately, to get rid of the evidence. Thought of snapping photos, but an inner voice told me not to (was that you?). Now I am able to knit & purl a few rows & do a few easy tricks without glitches. That’s down to you & I am most grateful. I am still watching your many videos & rewatching some. Your confident mastery, as you bring me along, makes me think “I can do that”. Thank you kindly

    Ooooh THAT's why some stitches look weird while I was sure I did them right... I wrapped my yarn the wrong way ^^" I'm SO used to crochet and how I wrap that it's difficult to get knit and purl into my fingers. Slooooowly getting there, but I am not a patient person. Hi Barbara! I am a beginning knitter and just found your channel and this was very helpful to me. I have only made the splitting stitches mistake thus far and hope not to make any of the others. I like that you focused on prevention, not fixing because I an just learning to "read" the knitting. I'm also left-handed so I'm watching alot of videos with my hand mirror held up to the screen and taking notes about how to reverse everything and keep my place. I appreciate an advanced knitter like yourself reaching back to help a novice. Thank you!

    I just started learning how to knit by watching TH-cam videos 3 days ago, I'm making a baby blanket, and I've already made a few rotated first stitches, more than a few split stitches resulting in extra stitches, and two accidental yarn overs. New to knitting been crocheting a while, but wanted to learn to knit. I usually just go for it on a new project and not worry to much about mistakes. Then I go back and watch videos like these. Thank you for doing this. I am just knitting a simple scarf right now but refer back to this and see what i can improve on when knitting.

      That sounds like a very sane plan! Sometimes things make more sense after you have a few more inches of knitting under your belt!

    You sure have helped me out! I am new to knitting but have already made most of those mistakes!!😂 thanks to you though, I now have an understanding of what I have done wrong and how to avoid it. Thank you so much.

    I'm so happy I found your video. I just started learning to knit, like, an hour ago. It's all blurry fibers and sticks clicking on most of these vids but yours is totally clear. Now at least I think I know what I supposed to be looking at. SO HELPFUL! (And now I'm really psyched to start making mistakes. They have names! And I can do them on purpose if I want. Woot!)

    Great video for beginners and advanced knitters alike. I have done the accidental short row even after 35+ years of knitting. Another tip for that is never stop in the middle of a row, always finish your row. This is mainly pertaining to flat knitting.

    You just helped me figure out why all my stitches are twisted!!!! I couldn't figure it out and I thought it was because I'm a continental knitter. Since you are too, I wanted to know why mine twist and yours don't. It's because I wrap the yarn clockwise. A huge lightbulb went off in my head and I'm so glad I know now! I'm almost done with a scarf so I'm going to keep going as I have been but I'm going to practice wrapping the yarn properly so it doesn't happen again. Thank you so much!!!! ❤

    I have done all of these. When I was first trying to learn I always twisted my purls b/c I didn’t know it mattered which direction you wrapped the yarn. Such frustration! I appreciate all the great you tubers helping us newbies out! This was a great video.

    OMG!! I know this is an old video for you but wow! As a crocheter 1st I had a REAL hard time with right/wrong side. And yes, I have done all these things. I just did a swatch last week for a class I’ll be taking and right in the middle are twisted stitches! Grrrr -how did that happen-well, now I know. It might even be happening on the purl side so now I will know what to look for. Girl….you are the best!
    I am going through all your videos!

    Kia ora from Aotearoa (New Zealand). Wow, I so wish I had seen this video before casting on 200 & knitted 10 rows 😅 oh my goodness, I really need to learn to be patient & start small to begin with lol. My mother-in-law taught me over 20 years ago how to knit & I made my 1st born his 1st (& mine) baby blanket. Silly me thought I knew what I was doing but now realise I learnt from knitting needles not circular knitting needles & I was more patient back then. Oh well, I've learnt my lesson & now I'm saving your very well explained video & I'm definitely subscribing...& I'm going to be patient 😅. Thank you for sharing your very informative knowledge & I hope my message finds you & your family well ❤

    This is the video that solved the mystery of the extra stitches!! I was doing #4, I had no idea what was causing the problem until I discovered this video last night. I've now watched the whole video twice. Nothing I read or watched before this mentioned that mistake was possible. PS: I hope I'll eventually be able to go as fast and as confidently as you!

    Bonus stitches! (giggle for the day)
    Once upon a time, twisted stitches were an unknown nightmare for me. I taught myself to knit from a little pamphlet before the internet even existed, and I don't recall that it ever mentioned mounting or twisting. At the time, I knit SO tight that I considered it a success if I managed to get my second needle into the stitch at all. Sometime it was the "right" way, sometimes the second needle went in easier the "wrong" way. I don't think anything I made at that time has survived; but it would be a mish-mash of randomly twisted and normal stitches. I was flabbergasted when I learned you were supposed to pay attention to stitch orientation.

    • @WatchBarbaraKnit
      @WatchBarbaraKnit  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stitch orientation is so important and I don't know how someone could get the results they want without understanding it. But I guess you have to know what you are looking for first! It's a never-ending learning process and that's what I love about it.

    • @neamhai
      @neamhai 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WatchBarbaraKnit Yup; when you're 15 and no one anywhere near you knits, you have no idea what you're looking for. (Insert ending of ST:TOS "The Cage".) When you're 50 and you know lots of knitters, it's a bit easier!
