I don't know if my dad could fix these, these are my second pair and my last one had the same issue. I really need to try to fix them, I use them really often.
Jeah its kinda scummy. Always the same spot and it not only needs repair, but replacement too. not something like resoldering a loose wire. it just becomes completely unusable. Had some MDR 770s and they broke down like this twice before i decided to switch to another company.

Watched this video to replace the left hanger on my headphones. I had a bad feeling about this when I disconnected the wires with the sodering iron. When I tried to resoder them back, I realized you make that look way easier then it actually is. They won't work anymore. I think I'm screwed now

I followed nothing of this complicated method. I simply took some Araldite Standard Epoxy Adhesive , mixed the resin and hardener, applied it on the joints and left it for 24 hrs. It’s been 3 years and it looks as if it’s stuck forever. Of course, as it’s mentioned here, the swivel doesn’t work but the headphone works better than than new. No more worries about the fragile hinges.

I've had my sony headphones mdr xb650bt for 5 years and the only thing that broke is the earpads on both sides. I need to replace them and I won't be able to wait much longer and also I'm saving my money for school. My swivels never broke after 5 years. I'm not sure if I noticed something going on with the battery, but I'll be watching that out since batterie also have a limited life span. So far, I never had any issues with them.
My swivel broke both sides also the frame that holds the circle part of the headphones where the drivers are (the one that connects the speakers to the frame)

great vid ...i've had to repair 3 of the hangers on our 650's now, they're just not strong enough due to being hollow (suspect the metallic paint is also weakening them over time) also spares are becoming harder to source (here in the UK at least) ...as a work around i've used a faulty MDR XB550's (wired) hangers & swivels, they need very slight modifying (you need to dremmel/ drill a hole in the hanger) but 550's are much much cheaper (i paid £2.50 for a faulty pair) but also much stronger (your wire passes straight down through the swivel & hanger into the housing (so a small/ 1cm section of wire is visible -like a traditional pair of headphones)

Is the black cable physically damaged at the break? If so, the repair will be quite complex :( If theres no damage to the cable, it may be a bad speaker or loose connection. Either way, soldering will be required to fix it.

Mine done the exact same thing, alot of other people have had the same problem but I didn't have the time or tools to fix it this way so I just used alot of superglue, it doesn't swivle anymore but it's on there again😂
Sounds like the battery isn't charging. It works when it's plugged in because the power is being supplied by the charger. You would need to replace the battery.
The process is exactly the same, even the order of soldering the wires. The left and right parts are not interchangeable though, so you will need the correct parts.
Hi. I'm not aware of many repair centers that service headphones. You may be able to find some near you, but I know where I live, if people want their headphones fixed, they pretty much need to just fix them by themselves.

The inside of my ear pads is ripped and so i am planning to just glue it again but i cant seem to pull the ear pads off. Afraid i might damage the synthetic leather. Send help
Hi! They are glued with a small amount of adhesive. I use a small flat plastic pry tool to pry the pads off. You can use anything that will allow you to get under the pads to help pull them off.
Honestly, these are so cheap to purchase used on eBay and Amazon that I would say you should just buy a replacement pair. Once they are superglued they are very hard to repair.
The pads clip in, but are also glued so you will need to use some sort of plastic pry tool to take them off. You could use your hand, but it may damage the pad so I would use something to pry them from underneath.

I repaired the break in the plastic on my headphones with contact cement. That was about 5 years ago. Still holding on strong.

Yes, due to the wires being soldered in place you have to do this whole process to repair them. It does go by quickly though and is pretty fun!

Hi, You probably need to replace that speaker. It solders into the board in 2 spots and is a fairly easy repair if you have a soldering iron.

Water damage is tricky - I would highly recommend getting a new pair of headphones as any/all components may be damaged :(
