  • Photographing Slains Castle, Cruden Bay, Aberdeenshire
In this weeks video we head out to Slains Castle located on the East Coast of Scotland, Aberdeenshire. We photographed Slains castle during very changeable conditions which provided some dramatic cloud, light & rainbows. We wonder around inside the castle which is a maze of corridors and rooms. This Scottish ruined castle is said to be the inspiration for Dracula and sits on the edge of some dramatic sea cliffs in Aberdeenshire . We hope you enjoy Adele & Max

Hi Joy, thanks so much glad you enjoyed the video. I had a bash with a couple of handheld images and was actually surprised that I was happy with them as I’m not usually. Great moody conditions and Max did a grand job as always with the footage. Thanks again Joy, take care Adele & Max 😊

Hi Adele and Max. Loved the video and images. You were blessed by some wonderful light. The castle i think would have an interesting history. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Jim, definitely lots of history….if only the walls could tell the stories. A great evening on the coast, we really enjoyed it. Thanks again Adele & Max 😊

Enjoyed the video. My wife and I lived in Aberdeen from 1987 to 1990 and this is one placed we visited often. So many great places in that part of the world.

Just unbelievable that you have history like that, and to have free access to photograph it! One of my best photography experiences was photographing Whitby Abbey on my last visit over. Beautiful conditions with the light, drama in the sky, and a lovely rainbow! Some wonderful images of the castle from both inside and out. One of my favorite shots was from inside the castle looking out the window at 10:45. Great video ladies, always a fantastic adventure! Hope you both are doing well. Have a wonderful weekend and hopefully some more glorious adventures!

Hey Paul, it was super lovely to be able to walk around and explore the castle. It’s strange really because we never visited anywhere like this in England but yet we love to explore the castles here. Great that it’s so accessible and Beautiful that it’s just by the sea with those views. I wasn’t sure about the image from inside looking out but I think it shows the contrast between the dark castle walls and how it must have felt to be in there and the beautiful light view outside. Apologies it’s taken me a while to respond… thanks so much for watching Paul. Hope you and JoAnna are well. Take care Adele & Max 😊

If walls have ears I'd like to listen to those castle walls, there must be some great stories to tell. Love the pastel tones in the two hazy shots from 7:40 & 7:50 🙂. I can see Dudley Castle from my 'Studio' upstairs, it's only 6 miles away, but it ceratinly isn't free to wander round! Take care both.

Hi Mark, I know….we watched the whole series of game of thrones 😂 so can only imagine the tales and stories the walls could tell. To be honest with you those two images were an experiment of in camera multiple exposures, I quite liked how they turned out so included them in the video. It’s great that the castle is so accessible and that people haven’t defaced or vandalised it, a lovely evening. Thanks again Mark, take care Adele & reply 😊

Hi Dawn, thank you. We really enjoyed the night. I know there’s a lot more to see and enjoy around the coast up there so it would be great to head back out. Maybe we could arrange an evening if you’re up for it? Take care Adele & Max

Hi ladies, another great video and photos, you were in my neck of the woods, I live just a few miles from Slains and have hundreds of photographs in fact I was there again last week, I took the other path from the car park and walked along the cliffs from the north back to the castle, amazing coast line. The coast line towards Peterhead and to Aberdeen is quite spectacular, many places for photo opportunities. Look forward to your next adventure.

How lovely to live not far from such an amazing place. I image you will have images of the coast and castle in so many different conditions. Thanks for the info….next time we’re up there we’ll have to head in the other direction and take a look. Glad you enjoyed the video…Thanks for saying hello, take care Adele & Max 😊

That part of the coast North of Aberdeen is stunning, I was at the village of Whinnyfold the other day and walked along the cliffs towards Cruden bay, beautiful bays and sea stacks. Check out my Facebook page to see the photos, Donnealonphotography. Thanks for taking the time to respond, all the best Don.
