I love watching all of your videos from down under in Australia, your enthusiasm and excitement are equal in my books to the beautiful Scottish scenery. As for lengths of videos, number one is your health and well being so never push too hard that you burn out, I personally cant get enough but having said that small videos are more than fine, we can and will wait with bated breath for every one. Paid work must come first and hopefully if it's your wish maybe this will become your work in the future. Whichever way you go in life never lose that enthusiasm. Thank you :)

Great video Kim....... this is on my doorstep I look on to Slains Castle from my home and spend many a summer evening on the cliff tops at Bullers photographing the Puffins it’s a magical place for lots of wildlife and fantastic seascapes...... if you follow the coastal path to the left round where you started it will take you down some granite steps on to a beautiful bay with huge rocks at the waters edge it’s great for some long exposure shots..... if you continue up the steps to the other side it will take you along to the old quarry where the wildlife continues ..... I go there when I can and I always feel fantastic by the time I’ve walked back to the car.... The East coast is simply stunning we are so very lucky to live in such a beautiful part of Scotland x

Hello Leigh - Ann! Lucky you living so close to that wonderful coast line. I will be back a few times over the summer I hope, so maybe I'll bump into you there one evening.Thank you so much for telling me about the steps and bay! I will definitely be checking that one out next time I'm there. I've never heard anyone talk about it before! I'm excited to go back now - thanks again :)

If you want to meet up just give me a shout and I can let you see all the hidden gems I’ve found! The little bay is called North Haven the big rocks on the waters edge have a lovely green seaweed type plant on them it adds great contrast to the image..... if you head up the steps at the other side it’s a whole other world heading along to the old longhaven quarry the wildlife is fantastic you won’t be disappointed :-)

Morning Kim, I could sit and watch all day these little gems you keep finding on the Scottish coastline. Ultimately though Kim you don't want to be burning yourself out trying to cram in as much you can every week. Whilst I would love more content and longer videos you need to strike a fine line in your life between your work that pays your living expenses, social life and vlogging, having that balance will keep your passion fresh and interesting and whichever way you decide to go your followers will always be happy and you channel will continue to grow. Hope this makes sense. Take care :-)

I know what you mean. There is never enough time to see all of it. The look is out of this world. So pretty is putting it mildly. I could go for 20 or minutes. Your excitement is really refreshing. My photo buddy and I went to see a water falls. It was a two hour walk one way. When we got there the falls was turned off. Too many people jumping off of it. My photo buddy Bill was sad but it was nice. If I was there . At least a week to capture all of the beauty. Thanks again Kim.

I love your video's Kim, mainly because, like you, I have a love for the countryside and photography. Personally, in a video of this length I would have liked to have seen one or two more photo's. I know you have addressed this in the recent past, but I feel it would have broken it up at bit and held other viewers interest better - not that it was an issue for me. You are an incredibly inspiring person and I have you to thank for getting me out more as I suffer from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Getting out and watching videos like yours is a great tonic for me. Rock on!

Regarding video length, I love them so much they cannot be too long for me. On the flip side I am thinking about how much work and time these take and that if you can make two videos from one longer trip then sometimes you would have breathing space for the occasions you cannot get out. I am happy whatever, a Sunday morning treat.

Thanks for posting. The Bullers looks like a real gem. Kicking myself for never visiting there when I still lived back home. Very reminiscent of St Abb's head in Berwickshire, another gem I think you would love..By the way, if you wanna see puffins, The Isle of May is the place,
I can't wait for the spring tour and am looking forward to being surprised and delighted by the places you pick. I'd love you to do a dawn chorus video in a really good place like Fairy Glen, which you showed us in an earlier vide, or anywhere else you know.
I watch these videos in an apartment in the concrete jungle that is Phnom Penh, and due to work, find it very difficult to get out of the city, so your channel is my chance to reconnect with nature and feel the beautiful places again.

I would love to go to St Abb's Head one day - I;'ve heard its beautiful). Thanks again :)

Hi Kim another wonderful video! Your content seems to be getting better and better and better! I'm a bird shooter myself and I love taking pictures of sea birds! I have to admit though that it's tough for me to look at you walking along those cliffs! I read all the other comments and I see some of the other commenters feel the same way! Please don't do any more cliffs!!! That one little narrow point that you walked out on I had to turn and look away I couldn't stand that! Please do be careful! As for the length of your videos I have no problem with it. Take as much time as you need to explain what you need to explain! To answer your question about video length, 20-25 mins is fine! Do whatever you feel you need to do to show the location, and of course the photos you take - I'd like to see more of those. I'm hoping to move just north of Inverness in a few months if my house purchase goes through - I'm in the south of England, and cannot wait -- "It's amazing!". ;)

Hi Kim, another nice video showing a less busy place, I prefer to be without the crowds. Regarding video length I am totally indifferent. We can always hit the pause button and break it into 2 chunks ourselves or just start to watch it when we have enough time. It is better that you produce the video with the content you feel the subject requires.

  • @celticbadger
    @celticbadger 6 ปีที่แล้ว

What an absolute pleasure it was watching this video. So much talent and the content was stunning and captivating from start to finish. You have set a new high bar in your production skills. Time length it was fine for me but others may find it a bit long to watch in one chunk. around 10 mins is average I would aim for only my thoughts but that may mean more work for you and you don't want it to become a chore and lose your passion for producing such great videos thanks againg

    Looked a lovely day.
Can I ask? What date were you there?
How long did it take you to walk from the car to the main cliffs?

    • @kimgrantphotography
      @kimgrantphotography  5 ปีที่แล้ว

I'm unsure about the exact date but it would have been about a week before the video went up (so mid April sometime). You can get to the main cliffs only 5min walk from the car park but there is a long coastal walk that is well worth doing which can take about 2hrs in total. Whether you want see the cliffs or do the walk, it's a stunning location regardless :)

A great video Kim and what stunning scenery. Love the photos, you should do more wildlife.
I personally feel 30 minutes is too long even as interesting as it is. Maybe it would be better to split it in half and have two, 15 minutes videos and that way you are building a store of videos up just in case you can’t get out sometime. Worth thinking about. Thanks you. Tony.

Another WOW to that scenery, have to agree with you go and explore your local area. Too many people ignore what`s on their doorstep. Living where I do people always go to the tourist spots and avoid the hidden gems P.S I need a to trip to that coastline. Greetings from Wales.
Video length enjoy the longer version I follow Summit or Nothing on TH-cam. They do 10 minute videos on hiking in the south west of England. then they link them to create the longer version, so you get the best of both. Kim keep they videos coming.

Nice images of those razorbills. Particularly when I was younger and living in New England, I knew just about every type of local seabird, but, of course, there are so many on the other side of the Atlantic I never saw before, like those.
I have no complaints about longer videos, but I always find that doubling the length of a video seems to triple the time and effort involved to make (and I do much less b-roll than you do, which takes even more time), so I hope you don’t exhaust yourself making them. Aside from that, I can’t imagine any of your explorations seeming "too long" to me.

What you were saying about the hidden gems in scotland echoes in ireland as well.In ireland .The cliffs of moher gets 1.5 million visitors every year yet they are about 20 other cliffs equally as beautiful for example slieve league in donegal which are the 6th highest sea cliffs in europe. The ring of kerry would be our equivalent of skye yet the next peninsula beara is just as beautiful and you can drive around it without having sit behing hundreds of buses

Morning Kim, longer videos, with content as stunning and captivating as this one and local info you want to share relating to the area then, 20, occasional 30 mins treats like this one would not be an issue with most of your followers, as commented already, in your favour, maybe splitting into 2 videos of 15 mins would be easier on you from time to time. Keep the vlogs coming, they are great 👍

For myself, long videos don't bother me. You are able to carry them off quite well. I didn't notice the extra length at all.
However... the other day, you split out the see fog section into its own, and I'm being honest, I was eagerly waiting for the followup video, and checking my subscriptions to see it when it dropped. In other words, that anticipation was half the fun. :-) So, maybe do what you just did--if you can split into meaningful, and dare I say suspenseful parts, I say go for it, but when your videos, like todays, don't lend themselves to that, keep them longer. I really don't think you are going to get complaints.
Scotland is a beautiful land. the 1/4th of me that is Scottish highly approves. ;-) I'm grateful to be able to watch your videos. Cheers. :-)

Thank you very much Jon! It seems quite a few people like the way I split my fog videos so point definitely taken. Thanks again for your feedback - appreciate it :)

Another great video, isn't the coast a great place to walk and film. Hadn't noticed the video length until you mentioned it, so the content obviously kept me interested. On a side note have cut my viewing of TH-cam down, all becoming a little same in the content. All except yourself and Thomas Heaton. You're up their with the best in my view Kim.

Thanks so much Mike! That's lovely to hear. There is a lot of similar content out there now but I feel mixing photography with nature and the love for Scotland is a good and unique mix for TH-cam. Really glad you're still enjoying :)

Hey Kim, awesome video, again! I am fine with longer video but they should be of constant high quality and tell an interesting story. This is very important. Running around, saying "wow" will not boost your channel for a long time. This are your feelings but you have to transport them to the viewer by showing, explaining, telling how to get to this "wow". In other words: The foreplay is an essential part of the orgasm. Maybe you should orientate your storytelling a bit on travelling documentaries (diary style)? A bit of voice-over in the beginning, while seeing you travelling mindfully could be a nice element as well. Not to much of course. Personally, I am fine when you not want to be a pure landscape photography channel. Still it is a nice benefit if you show this style from time to time (like you do, generally): Tripod, camera, filters, composition work etc. That are nice additional features of your outdoor vlog. Would also think about finding and optimizing your personal brand: Channel avatar picture and channel name: Maybe somewithing like "Kim Grant Outdoors" or so? Keep up your good work, I am a regular viewer and definitive fan! Cheers, Max

Hi Kim! Concerning the length of the videos, an average of 20min is just fine and 30min would be my limit. I tend not to watch longer videos, even if they are as interesting as yours. Partly because I don't always have as much time (my train commute is around 25min), and partly because I also want to watch other channels.

Good valid points Carlo. I certainly wouldn't make them longer than 30mins but even then I think thats too long! Just seeing what everyone thinks :)

I don’t mind a longer video when the content is great. Like e you said, don’t cut bits just for the sake of a 10 minute video. For us people who do not live in the uk it is a great thing to see places that we’ll never probably see from close. Also since your goal is to show as much of Scotland as possible then do take as much time as you need in order to show the place.

I prefer shorter, it's easier to commit to watching 15 minutes than 30.
I didn't watch The Bill at all when it was new, the ABC repeated a few of the very early series a couple of years ago. I'd rather watch two episodes of about 20 minutes than one of 45.
Have a look at some episodes of Clarke and Dawe, it's on TH-cam legitimately. Each episode is three minutes.

Kim, you are walking next to a steep cliff, with no guard rail, holding your camera and pointing it to yourself. Please please be careful. I love your videos, but please take care.

    Thanks for the video.
About the size: the size by itself is not a problem. The problem can be with the contents. I think you should be a bit more informative about the location and the surroundings, a bit more concise about your emotions (this is great but not really "cinematographics").
The place you describe have plenty of magic.

video lengths should be dependent on content, keep it interesting if it is longer.
