Oh gracious, I'm rolling my eyes. That's not a kitchen. That is one of the cellars with a built-in stone shelves maybe for wine, depends how close is to a dining room. It have to be built with arch-vault to withstand the weight of the building above. The larger vault is where they would have a built-in cabinet. Nothing unusual about it, many old houses of the 18 and 19th centuries in Europe, still have it. The castle is huge, and made sense to have it close to the dining instead of walking far to get the wine. But then again, if one doesn't know much the old Europe, anything can have been built for spooky purposes.

I've been here a few times. A friend once told me whatever you do don't go out there at night. I asked why. He said because there is a witches coven meets at Slains regularly. The old fire in the ruins. I get the feeling that has been part of a witchcraft ritual

Jessica is right it does make me think of the movie The last Unicorn, such a beautiful and sad story. I love ruins of old castles but I don't visit them that much because I don't get the chance. This is so beautiful and I can imagine what it must have looked like when it was active. I love seeing how much you both love and respect the history of old places. So very beautiful and had no idea he was inspired by such a lovely place when writing Dracula.
I was waiting for a worm to pop up and tell you" Things aren't always what they seem in this place......" Seriously tho, this is the best place you have visited so far. Gave me chills....
Can't believe you made it to my castle near my home. I live in Edinburgh now, but I often travel north to my folks. I've not been there for a while, and last time I went, it was sealed off to the public, and I also went at night. A dangerous place that has sadly claimed a number of lives of unaware visitors.
@@traceyaffleck1706 It's approximately 158 miles north from Edinburgh and is just outside the small village of Cruden Bay on the coastline. Lovely in the summer, but cold and very windy other times of the year.
Used to go there all the time as a kid, my dad told me about a couple of people he knew over the years who had died there. There’s one doorway in the castle that just opens out onto a sheer cliff face, very deceptive and dangerous if you don’t know it’s there.
@venger78 So beautiful! It's where my Grampa was born, I want to visit so bad one day. My husband passed away recently and it was going to be the retirement trip! Sadly 😥 it is going to be a solo trip now.

Can’t believe you guys were right on my doorstep and missed you!! 🤦🏻♂️ If you’d gone into the tower section and down the spiral staircase, there’s a cool wee room built into the cliff. Probably the “spookiest” part of the entire castle! Love your videos by the way! Keep up the abasing work!!
Can you imagine being the one to light all those fire places to try to keep warm? My goodness lol. It's such a shame that the castle fell into such disrepair.
Fantastic video Mike and Jessica. Your camera work is superb, and showcases the castle beautifully. The mist coming off the North Sea is known as Haar. I'm originally from Aberdeen (now London, not far from where Bram Stoker's ashes are kept) and have family connections with Cruden Bay; so have been to Slains a few times. It never ceases to blow my mind. I was on tenterhooks seeing Jessica near the cliff edge 🫣 Bram stayed at The Kilmarnock Arms hotel, and he signed the guest book which they still have to this day. Makes me homesick watching this! 🏴😊
I used to live in Cruden Bay and visited Slains Castle and the Kilmarnock Arms hotel many times. Bram Stoker also stayed at a cottage called the Crooked Lum in a village called Whinneyfold near Cruden Bay. Allegedly it was whilst staying at the Crooked Lum nightmares he had after eating too much crab meat gave him an inspiration to write Dracula. Incidentally there is an older ruined castle called Old Slains Castle a bit further south along the coast and also there is a wreck called the Chicago right below Slains Castle which I’ve dived on. Great video guys. 👏
Wow! This is so beautiful. The panorama is eerie, but very beautiful, so I can see how this totally may have inspired Dracula and some of Bram Stoker's other books. Absolutely breathtaking. Thank you, once again, for sharing this with us ❤
What's so heartbreaking is that we have horrific cliff erosion round our coast now, and unless something drastic is done in the near future, that's going to start crumbling away along with the cliff! What I was most surprised, and saddened about. is not only the lack of any kind of upkeep or protection, but there are no safety barriers or catch netting anywhere. Wow!*! Thanks for the vid though, you might be really glad you captured this in the not too distant future as I think it won't stay looking like that for much longer!*! ❤
For the love of Pete is right. I'm not afraid of heights, but walking up those stairs would have freaked me out. No protection barriers. You would be on your own. Creepy.
This is absolutely stunning, although it's just the structure of it. Imagine all the ppl who walked where you're walking back in the day. This is insanely gorgeous.
What a beautiful place this is. It's shame it's now in ruin. Makes me wonder why and how it got to that point. You guys did another great video. Thank you. Also: I'm feeling your fear Michael. I'm not a fan of heights.
Great to see you visit the area I grew up in. I was brought up in Cruden Bay. Stoker penned some of Dracula in the local hotel, the Kilmarnock Arms. Played along those cliffs and in the castle as a child, looking back I think how mad that was. Great memories though, thanks for visiting 🧛🏼
The enthusiasm and genuine joy you two have when visiting these locations is just perfect :) and very sweet to see! Ive camped out in the ruins before (and other places) never leave rubbish or anything behind but just to immerse oneself in the darkness, and in the history of the place, is very special. To imagine what it was like, imagine the real fireplaces and candles lighting up old rooms. You guys bring a smile to my face :) liked and s'bed. Those oreos look neat too never had a blond oreo before 😂
I done a ghost tour at Dublin castle at night. Our tour guide told us that bram stoker worked there as a accountant and he left as he was having nightmares, while he was awake. And it’s written in the night watchman’s books. That he saw bram stoker fighting with someone but there was no one there. He left there and a few years later wrote Dracula.
Just recently subscribed to your channel, so I'm going back and randomly watching previous videos. That is such a beautiful and cool place. I love how the fog adds to the eeriness of the castle. The view of the sea below is breath taking. I love the last unicorno
Really great photography guys! Really enjoyed this. I could almost feel the chill of the mist and smell of the sea. Another place in the U.K that I didn't know existed. I think they call this mist Haar up there in Scotland, it happens this time of year. Probably was 70 degrees or something in Glasgow to the west haha, but great for the atmosphere. M
Don't think you could have picked a better day for this. That mist was perfect, especially when you used the drone. What an amazing atmosphere you presented.
This is wonderful! So pleased you got to visit, Jessica and Michael! The sea mist rolling in added to the atmosphere of this video. My husband and I hope to visit Cruden Bay and Slains later this year, as our friends moved near there last year. I saw Dacre Stoker on Thursday evening and Friday evening. He talked about how Bram wrote Dracula in Cruden Bay and that Slains was an influence for Dracula's castle. He combined Bran Castle and Slains for the castle. Dacre came to Derby in England for the Dracula Returns to Derby - a new project to shed light on legacy. I contacted you several times on social media to let you know about Dacre Stoker coming here, as I wondered if you were still in the UK. I appreciate you probably get a lot of messages, so may have missed my messages. 😊
YAY! I love the last unicorn! No lie just watched it again 3 days ago. I so want a remake. And Christopher Lee said he'd love to voice the king again. ❤🦄

Fantastic video! Thank you very much. Great photo for reference. I'm guessing that a search of the local homes, hotels and taverns will show all the valuable fittings that were stripped from the castle in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Just a guess!
Wow. Mind blown. I've been a huge fan of Dracula and Bram Stoker since I can remember and have read and watched most Dracula related media over the decades. And yet I honestly never knew that Slains Castle was the real life inspiration for Castle Dracula. I know that the Romanian tourist board love to claim that either Bran Castle or Corvin Castle inspired Stoker, but this place seems much more plausible actually. I can just picture the count roaming through those ruins. One can only imagine what it must have been like to have experienced the place before it fell into decay.
Awesome vlog! That is a MASSIVE Castle, one of my favorite things to do while in Scotland/UK/Ireland was to visit these places, so much history, and truthfully if these walls could talk! THANKS for sharing!
This was well done visually, historically etc, weather was perfect for an entrance of the counts black carriage and horses to. I slept in Caste Poenari - Castle Dracula Southern Transylvania, Northern Wallachia, Romania in August, 2006. Whilst backpacking around Romania on a Dracula tour. I'm 51 and I've always wanted to visit Transylvania since I was age 6 when I first discovered Dracula. I slept in a sleeping bag, a small fire and surrounded by howling wolves in the forest, on a clear sky, star spangled night. It was beautiful, I washed and brushed my teething the Arges River - Lady River below the castle the next morning. before moving on to travel to Bucherest. I like both you and your partners dress sense, green hair, not over the top but simple and effective. Love the painted nails dude, I'm Goth but with a small g. More of a Thrash Metal head myself with a touch of bohemian glam rock. But my USA wife is full on Goth with a capital G, and metal head with a small m. I love Gothic literature also. Fantastic video. I live in Wales, UK. Thanks both for your efforts, much appreciated. Saint Anger
Another great video guys! Glad to see you exploring a bit more of scotland, that area is a beautiful place and while I was there it was a clear blue sky and when you look down the cliff edges you can see tunnels that run under the castle which are sadly out of bounds cause it’s pretty dangerous out there with some crazy big drops onto rocks and the sea.. oh and the reason places like that have the narrow corridors is to make it harder for intruders to swing their swords.. loved the video.
Omg I got nervous as she was walking and you look and there’s just a drop! So beautiful but I had chills thinking Baby Ghoul don’t fall! Don’t wanna test out your bat wings that way! It’s eerie feeling with the fog but so beautiful too because it’s like you are looking into the unknown! It’s also crazy because as soon as Baby Ghoul walked through the arch of the ruins it felt honestly like a scene from Harry Potter! It’s so crazy but cool to get these images in your head of this beautiful place and cannot help but picture in your head the wonders of how this castle looked and knowing it’s historic! With the fog and the eerie feeling you get chills and it’s almost as if your blood runs cold, but it’s exciting at the same time! Walking around the ruins felt like I was right there! Picturing Bram walking through here to inspire Dracula is amazing and that room it’s legit walking through history! So so incredible and amazing and eerie and beautiful! And the drone shots of the ruins icing on the cake so so crazy but I’m loving it! Another bucket list place added to my second notebook for sure! Just so amazing I’m so glad you both got to be there and experience the history and adventure! Safe travels always, love you both! 🧛🏻♂️🧛🏻♂️🧛🏻♂️🧛🏻♂️💚🦇👻

How far is Slain’s Castle from Edinburgh? I’d love to visit someday.
@@Debra-k1f I lost my partner a few years back too. Got a few years till retirement myself, and I know exactly how you must be feeling. Make those trips, and others and keep living and enjoying what you can. They're good for the soul, and I'm sure he'll be with you when you go. They never leave us 🙏♥
This has got to be one of the best places you guys have explored ! I really want to visit this place !thanks for taking us along!
OMG! Those ruins are more precarious than I had ever imagined them to be!
I’m rather new here and I love how sweet you are and how you call your lady “baby guel” haha - keep on you two! Absolutely loved this episode! What a mystical magical place! You’re so lucky to have visited! Thanx for bringing us along! 💖
Can’t believe you guys were right on my doorstep and missed you!! 🤦🏻♂️
If you’d gone into the tower section and down the spiral staircase, there’s a cool wee room built into the cliff. Probably the “spookiest” part of the entire castle!
Love your videos by the way! Keep up the abasing work!!
I’ll send a link to a pic I took of Slains a few years ago…
Can you imagine being the one to light all those fire places to try to keep warm? My goodness lol. It's such a shame that the castle fell into such disrepair.
Fantastic video Mike and Jessica. Your camera work is superb, and showcases the castle beautifully. The mist coming off the North Sea is known as Haar.
I'm originally from Aberdeen (now London, not far from where Bram Stoker's ashes are kept) and have family connections with Cruden Bay; so have been to Slains a few times. It never ceases to blow my mind. I was on tenterhooks seeing Jessica near the cliff edge 🫣
Bram stayed at The Kilmarnock Arms hotel, and he signed the guest book which they still have to this day.
This has got to be the coolest place you've been, and that's saying something. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! This is so beautiful. The panorama is eerie, but very beautiful, so I can see how this totally may have inspired Dracula and some of Bram Stoker's other books. Absolutely breathtaking. Thank you, once again, for sharing this with us ❤
Again.... Just amazing beauty! Bram Stoker was very lucky to have been part of this experience. Thanks for sharing this! 😊
The opening to the video with the fog overhead was something else! 👌🏻
Stoker’s signature is in the guest book. Saw it a few times as a kid as my granny and grandad used to drink in there on weekends 😅
You are great videographers, storytellers, editors, and I love your use of music.
The Last Unicorn song IMMEDIATELY came back to me. Thank you for the sparked childhood memory.
But he left Ireland a schoolboy and was Anglo Irish so very proud of being British 🇬🇧
Just recently subscribed to your channel, so I'm going back and randomly watching previous videos. OMG...the excitement you expressed as you were walking through this abandoned castle is EXACTLY how I would feel. I'm a HUGE fan of Dracula 🧛♂and all-things GOTH. Thank you for sharing your experience. Thoroughly enjoyed. Wow!...that shot of the ocean as you panned the rocky coastline took my breath away!
The castle in the mist looked so spooky and cool at the same time. Great video!
Absolutely breathtaking. Your filming and curiosity captured the mystique.
Don't think you could have picked a better day for this. That mist was perfect, especially when you used the drone. What an amazing atmosphere you presented.
Thank you…and yes we were very lucky. One of our most memorable visits for sure
It doesn't need a remake
The most atmospheric video ive seen. I am a Scot and i thought i knew all the old ruins but i missed this treasure. No need to ask if its haunted. Great work.
Wow! Me and my buddy visited here 2 years ago and had ambitions to camp beside the ruins but we got creeped out and noped! Very atmospheric 😮.
That is the most atmospheric vid I've ever seen from you. As someone who doesn't like heights the tension was building as Michael climbed the steps - the palms of my hands were sweating!
Awesomely atmospheric! Oh, …and the mist! 😍 That’s production value that simply cannot be bought. Your UK series has been my favourite of all your published work. Thank you!
Amazing ruins and seascape. The mist really sets everything off. "The children of the night........."
lol... touché!
The 2 of you are an asset to the horror community!🤘I know you get to visit cool locations but alot of hard work is also done behind the scenes. Thanks for that.. Happy Halloween 🦇
🏰🏴 🦇Love it guys Scotland is magnificent, with it's lore ritch history. 🕯🇬🇧 📖
Also always adore/love baby ghoul's green hair.. SO pretty 😯💚
💚
I LOVE that her mind also went to The Last Unicorn 🧛♂️🖤🦄
Such a cool video! All anyone brings up is Bran Castle so seeing this one in Scotland is so interesting! The mist and the sound of the sea make it too.
WOW! This was SO COOL!!! Seems like the weather was the perfect backdrop for this tour.
Thank you so much for ‘taking me’ to so many awesome places I’ll likely never get to visit. You & Baby Ghoul are such a great couple with a true transparent love. Super enjoyable vicarious trip for me and so many others, I’m sure. 😊🩷👍🏻!!!
That intro in the middle of fog... You nailed. 😊😊
AMAZING drone footage, and the overall look with the mist, again good work on this one, you lurking through the place at your height you were like "LURCH" with the torch going to answer the door...'YUUUUUEEEESSS"!😄🏰🕸🕷🦇
you know i thought the creature of the black lagoon set visits were tops to see you all at.....but this....this is just that cherry on top. thank you for going there. dreams!
I have virtually went through this castle with another TH-cam person but you tell the story way cooler!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I live in the UK and I’ve got to say your videos are the best I’ve seen on these places. Your enthusiasm and passion for our history and buildings shines through, so glad I stumbled across your channel 😊
Wow! Those drone shots at the beginning! Talk about setting the stage…love it!
Thank you. Happy you enjoyed the video
This is incredible. My mom's family is from Scotland and this is exciting for both of us! (She's a fan BTW) so thank you for this opportunity to live vicariously through the two of you! ❤
She must be of great blood ❤
@@MichaelAmos-ul6zj Why?
I want to thank you, not much of a traveler, but really great to see trough your eyes theses great places.
That Drone footage is really cool !!! Stay well
Fantastic video!
Saint Anger
This had all my senses going wild!!!!! I felt everything 😮
Very gothic and beautiful

I lve in market place whitby I am so lucky hope you enjoyed
Another great video guys! Glad to see you exploring a bit more of scotland, that area is a beautiful place and while I was there it was a clear blue sky and when you look down the cliff edges you can see tunnels that run under the castle which are sadly out of bounds cause it’s pretty dangerous out there with some crazy big drops onto rocks and the sea.. oh and the reason places like that have the narrow corridors is to make it harder for intruders to swing their swords.. loved the video.
I don’t need to go. Your magical journey & commentary was divinity. TY, I was with you every step of the way. Breathtaking. 🤘🏼

Great one you two! I really enjoyed this one, being that my great grandmother is from right there!! ty! Excuse me! Great, great grandmother!
I'm currently working on a vampire hunter journal and I've been debating weather to bring Dracula into it or not but this video has helped me make my decision up so thank you guys and the castle is beautiful will have to go myself
Wow when you showed the drone shots of the castle and the octagon room that really brings a new light on the size and shape of the castle. Pretty awesome.
What a beautiful castle. Awesome video as always! Much respect to you both! Thanks for sharing and safe travels.
Thank you Chuck. Happy Halloween
@@grimmlifecollective Happy Halloween to you both as well!
Just gorgeous! The mist, the ruins matched perfectly with the music. Great job
EPIC. Thank you for sharing my favorite spook, Bram Stokers Dracula 💜🖤⚰️🧛♀️
The fog is perfect adding to its eeriness. What a fantastic trip that would be, TY for sharing for those of us who may never have the opportunity ❤
Beautiful very green enjoy Scotland
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. You guys are so lucky to be able to do what you do. I loved this one.
That’s so cool you guys get to see those places and show them to us, thank you for that.
I know we all have our opinions on the state of the world and the politics going on now but it’s such a wonderful thing that you have created a place for us all to go and not argue and we can just enjoy what we all love so thank you for that as well.
An amazing place and an amazing video Michael and Jessica. We really enjoyed it. We were wondering if the underground area could have been the wine or even beer cellar? Or pantry? Just a few wild guesses! Looking forward to the next video. Happy Halloween 🎃
I love how we can hear the sheer joy and excitement in Michael's voice. Love you guys xx
What a cool castle! Thank you for the tour!
Thank you for watching Kay. Happy Halloween
