- The Santa Cruz is Hyundai's compact truck and it receives a new trim for 2024.l On the outside you will discover off-road tires, unique wheels, running boards and sliding bed cover. On the inside you will find a 10.25in infotainment screen & 10.25in digital gauge cluster. Under the is a 2.5L turbocharged inline-4 mated to an 8-speed DCT. 0-60 6sec and 281hp for such a small truck, i wasn't expecting that at all, Impressive, Love it
The Maverick with tow package can do 0-60 in 5.9 secs. Without tow package, 6.4 secs. That with 250 hp. I would think the SC with 31 more hp would be a tick quicker. I think the wider tires on the SC slow it down a tick. 245's vs the Mavericks 225's.
Love the idea of having a pick up for the city. Nice cargo area and a low fuel consumption.

Very good points to make Omar!
Thanks, I did Purchase the XRT 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz. Great information from Raiti's Ride.
When I first seen these on the road hideous was the first thing that popped in my mind. But I have actually fallen in love with them 😂
Joe: Thanks for the review; I am looking to buy a Santa Cruz. I drove a non turbo SEL and a turbo XRT and the turbo is the way to go. One correction: The non-turbo models can tow 3500 lbs but the turbo models can tow 5000 lbs. Ridgelines can tow 5000 lbs so I think this is pretty impressive for the compact Santa Cruz. The Maverick hybrid or turbo can only tow 2000 Lbs unless you get the turbo AWD with the 4k tow package; good luck finding that option/combo here in the Tampa Bay area. So where towing is concerned the less trucky Santa Cruz does "truck" better than the truckier looking Maverick.
I only watch his video to listen TO THE DOOR PANEL! & Twinkie Daddy jokes 😋
Thanks for being super supportive.
Never in my life wanted a truck. This thing is sexy!
Joe mentions a Ridgeline 19 times even though it’s a Hyundai he’s talking about. 😂
It's a shame because the Ridgeline doesn't even look like the Santa Cruz
They both start with the letter H
@@lavapop1900 It is the same concept
We all know a Honda is king over a Hyundai/kia. And a Toyota is king of the entire auto industry by far. Honda is great but fell far behind Toyota
His title is a question. He's doing us consumers a favor. Personally I like both of the vehicles.
"Don't play monopoly that's the game of the Devil" LOL got me with that one😂
Also, great review Joe
Joe and Lori and Steve keep up the good work real true and I love the video real true 👍 💯
I am 6ft1. I love my 2024 midnight edition. The only disagreement I have is to me, is the back seats do not have enough room. Yet, I didn't buy it for back seat room. Enjoyed your show.
personally, i found a used Hyundai SC with activity package and only 9k. i love it and i think i got a good deal.- i really like the truck
Love your videos. Can you start showing us if the windows go all the way down when you're sitting in the back? I have two dogs and having the windows go all the way down is a huge factor in my car buying decision. Thank you!
Yes, the windows do go all the way down. I have the 2024 midnight edition.
$41.000 and no vents in the back??! Gee darn it! Even the 2010 Ford Adrenalin, (which I'm dreaming of having), has vents for the rear passengers. Heck, even the 2nd gen Escape has. 😅
I feel your pain.
Rear vents are usually under the front seats…
Hyundai cheaping out on this XRT trim. No rear vents. No BVM. Why bother with this trim. Is the Limited trim still available? That had both.
@@johncs154 Yep. Heck even my 2012 Focus had rear facing vents under the front seats so it's nothing new. Don't see the issue. Not like vehicles like this are minivans with a big interior that won't heat up or cool down quick. Bigger issue is whether the rear console has USB or electrical ports for the rear passenger.
You hit the nail on the head. We want a truck bed but we want it to ride like a suv
Hey Joe I'm pretty sure with the turbo no matter the trim towing is increased to 5,000 pounds.
Or if not my research of this vehicle is wrong. Anyway thanks for another great video.
I have been seeing these on the road and been impressed with their visual appeal just like with a lot of the other new Kias and Hyundais. I am just as impressed at a closer look, especially with their decision to include the option of a turbo 4-cylinder and dual-clutch transmission.
I love this little truck I’m so working on saving up for one .
I like the design of those wheels (but with the regular black center caps) but they look small in the wheel wells of the SC. The wheel cutouts are huge and are shaped for the larger 20" wheels.
Looks great.
Always a big fan of yours for the most random choice of expressions you come up with. Very entertaining.
I personally think Hyundai made a very good move on the compact pickup truck segment based on a front wheel drive setup. The Ridgeline is no longer small and it's about time people start discussing about the midsize and compact trucks we used to get decades ago at a starting price in the 20k range. I am quite confident a substantial portion of current truck users barely tow anything let alone actively use the bed, utilizing all that payload capacity. This compact truck just about serves its purpose, you know, those once or twice a year when you can't fit everything inside the cabin of your SUV and wished you had an open space with no roof so you can stack your furniture or appliance, things like that.
It's actually my first time paying attention to the rear seat area and I agree with you that not having a rear seat vent is a huge bummer for vehicle reaching $40k. I mean, Hyundai is always so keen in making sure even their compact cars receive the vents but I wonder why they had to cheap out for Santa Cruz. Also the competition for off road trims is becoming extremely competitive and popular these days, to the point where F-150 offers like three different off road trims across its entire price range, so Hyundai should pay sharp attention to this trend and come up with something more than just this XRT with on road tires(probably due to emissions/fuel economy) and a standard Tucson-looking interior.
Other than that, I absolutely love the powertrain. Very recent rumor has it that the next Elantra N may receive this same 2.5 liter turbo engine and it sure sounds fun to have access to all the fun parts available for the N once it begins sharing the same engine. I hope Hyundai updates the interior of the Santa Cruz quick enough since the refreshed Tucson has a much better interior, including the quirky digital cluster replaced with a nicer looking one.
Owned 2 Tacoma’s which I loved, but traded my last one for a 2021 Ridgeline. The Ridgeline drives so much better, smoother, roomier, bed trunk is awesome, only Zonk is slow infotainment system. Sound is great though as I have the RTLE with 540watts and a subwoofer!!! Don’t like the looks of the Santa Fe or Maverick. Ridgeline improved looks in 2021 with more solid front end plus duel exhaust….Joe always love your reviews!!!
I have a Honda Ridgeline, You know what, I have never had to bail water out of it. I know someone who purchased a 2023 Hyundai
Santa Cruz & they have taken it back to the dealer 3 times to get the water leaks repaired. They were told that it was repaired, but it
leaked water again the very next storm. Thet were pissed, the back seat was soaked along with the floor and carpet. They took it back
the last time & told them to keep it until it was fixed! I know which one that I would buy!!!!
Oh boy, A review for my wife, she wants one of these! 😮
A couple that watches Raiti's Rides together stays together.
I love this vehicle but I wish it came in more colors, orange would look badass on it
I've read that with the 2.5 turbo towing capacity goes up to 5000 lbs with the Santa cruz.
JJ ~ good stuff buddy
You are the best Tony!
Joe, this is a nice truck, so is the Maverick, but I'm waiting to see if Toyota comes out with one, The Stout. I like the Honda also.
I have a 22 sel premium. Can tow 5000lbs. Should have put it in sport mode and experienced the difference it makes. Also the instrument cluster works well. I have never found myself wanting a hood over it.
The "Pick-suv-cross-truck". Call it what you will but I like thins thing! Reminds me of the good ol' Subaru Baja.
I own 2021 Santa Cruz plus a 2023 Santa Cruz looking at trading in my 2023 for the 2024 xrt Santa Cruz as we love these trucks .
Yea great video , I love the turbo, love the running board for short people . .Shame no phone connections in rear seating , no air or heat, wish the seats had some color, it's dull inside. Need off road tire, need mirrors to retract, love bed action. Wish rear window was electric. Kind of boring for $42,000. Yea, boring door panels and need reverse camera to small, seats should have color. Is there a camera and corner cameras, good head room. No arm rest! Yea great power. Thx Joe.
Them tires got that Jerry curl juice drippin' all over 'em 🤣 Neat looking vehicle though!
When someone says Joe Raiti to me I just give them ten dollars. No questions asked.
You are so awesome! Thanks for having my back!
They should have had enough sense to raise it at least an inch and a half or two inches and put some off-road tires on it.
It's not really supposed to be a truck truck. Rather, it's supposed to be the kind of truck set the Honda Ridgeline is, or at least was. The kind of truck that you get if you don't need to do all the things that you get with an actual truck. Hauling the occasional bag of mulch, for example as opposed to an entire Construction site.
I know right!
@@blairbrown4812That’s why I’m considering it. Definitely need the space/extra utility of a truck and AWD/4WD but a 4.5-5ft bed is more than enough for me and the trunk in the bed is even better. Gas mileage is a big consideration as well. I could 100% afford a mid size/full size pickup but I’d never use it to it’s full potential lol.
I love this car. Wish we had it in my country😢😢😢
I like the Santa Cruz. The problem is the price point. Well equipped it is too expensive considering the price of a Ridgeline which is a much better TRUCK. Or, not a truck if you ask guys who buy trucks but don't even come close to using their capacity. We call them posers. Or poseurs if they went to college.
You are not the first to say that.
Joe, do you think RAM will bring the Rampage to the states to compete with the Santa Cruz and Maverick? Same with Toyota and the Stout?
Right now there is no info pointing towards a yes.
@RaitisRides Darn that stinks 😕
Can't believe it's already December, Joe.
Trust me you and me both!
You could also fit a Merlin and a Magic Merlin in those seat-pouches!
It's slick, and it's fresh; I really can't blame folks for wanting one. People are tired of these stale lineups from other manufacturers... it's been the same ol' stuff for years, give or take some recalls.
But gosh, 41k? And, after all the dealership mumbo-jumbo... 50k? That's gonna be a hard-sell.
It's sort of a half El Camino. I can see the attraction for some.
My dad bought a Santa Cruz XRT. It is pretty cool looking on the outside, but really not that special on the inside. The backseat is comfortable but really nothing much back there. No ac/heat vents, center arm rest or USB ports. That's pretty much my only gripe about it. I do like the fact I have plenty of legroom and I do feel safe in the back.
Lost me at “El Camino” damn! Was really considering this vehicle…back to the drawing board.
The Santa Cruz XRT shown in this video looks beautiful and reminds me of the Subaru Baja from the early 2000's, which is a compliment in my book. The interior is okay but the dashboard is terribly though, the dash cluster looks horrible and I'm not feeling the ipad in the center stack.
I love a great city truck like the Santa Cruz, they're great for getting groceries/picking up small loads from Lowes/taking on a roadtrip. BTW, the little truck fender logo is a mount spot for a GoPro-type action camera.
Wish this thing had a hybrid powertrain for 10 more mpg
Alright Joe let’s see what this Santa Cruz will do for us
Let's do this!
Sold my 2021 Tacoma and was looking at the 2024 Mavrick XLT and Santa Cruz SEL. Test drove both and ended up buying the 2024 Santa Cruz SEL. Both drove well, but the SC was a smoother and quieter ride on the highway. Out the door price for the Mavrick was in excess of $37,000, while the OTD price for the SC was approx. $35,500 and included nav, dual a/c control, sunroof, SiriusXM and a hard rollup tonneau cover. The Mavrick had none of these. The 5 year/60,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty vs. Fords 3/36,000 warranty was another big factor in my decision to purchase the Santa Cruz. P.S.--my wife loves the Santa Cruz, and drives it more than her Ford Edge.
If the backseat had as much room as the Tuscan! Why? Why? Why? . This kills it!
Oh yea the dual clutch transmission. Don’t walk, run!
I LOVE MINE!
I am so glad to hear that!
Genesis Cars really shouldn´t be at Hyundai dealers 😞
Chevy needs to bring the El Camino back. Subaru needs to bring the Brat back with the two back seats on the bed! Sitting in the back of one of those back in the day was the coolest! 😂
Give me this in a Coupe damn it! * 10:40 the Backup Camera's aspect ratio would not fit the full screen, it would be distorted if you made it fill the screen.
*Needs MORE Tailgate badges*
I think you might be right!
Nope
Turbo model can tow 5,000 lbs
Non-turbo model can tow 3,500 lbs
Maybe you could get a mechanic to go over the technical aspects of the car, like... What kind of variable valve timing it has. Hyundai has come out with a new variable valve timing system that has valve duration control.
What type of fuel injection system it has? Is it the problematic direct injection or have they changed that system?
when does honda ridgeline bring out their cyber ute or mitsubishi or toyota or other stuff by 2030
Current Gen Honda pilot has a 10 speed auto.
41k for that is ABSURD
I know it is not for everyone.
Why? that is a Rav4 and CRV cost when loaded like this.
🙏🙏💯💯 it's better cause it's got more features midsized truck
That is an excellent point Jimmy!
Joe was definitely less than enthusiastic 😅😅
I’m sure there’s an option for heated steering wheel ?
That is crazy!
Yes. With the Limited.
You keep saying 3500 lbs towing cap, but thats for the naturally aspirated engine, the turbocharged tows 5000
Thanks for the heads up!
Very different! Ridgeline is much bigger and reliability proven!
This is true but look at price point!
Not anymore! Pilots and ridgelines are starting to show they aren’t as reliable as they claimed to be. My wife’s pilot has 87000 miles on it and is breaking down all over the place. As are many other people’s!
@@outsidewithmrtmay I ask what year your wife’s pilot is?

Joe, they got the color and interior right. But for everything else, I'll stick to my Maverick. 😉
One of my biggest zonks for new cars is that they cost sooo much yet automakers are STILL putting light bulbs instead of leds in the exterior lighting. If people are going to be paying these high prices, full led lighting should be a given imo.
...... And one reason why new headlight housing cost hundreds of dollars each to replace. All those LED's in them.
@@Snake-ms7sji understanf that, but led lights are better. All im saying is if im gonna pay all that money, i should get leds
Is it popular? I've seen two on the road, ever, and I'm in a major metro area.
It sells pretty well. about half of what the Tacoma sells.
@@gregkramer5588 Really? Interesting, I'm kinda shocked when I see one. I see 50 Tacomas a day lol.
I think each region of the country has a certain amount.
The color is tight
I am so glad that you think so.
@@RaitisRides yes sir
The 2.5 Turbo AWD can tow up to 5000 pounds. 👍
Thanks for that heads up!
@@RaitisRides as a Santa Cruz owner I need to know the specs 😃. Excellent video. 👍. Tank you for always bringing so amazing content.
That tows more then Maverick. 2.0 lt turbo Maverick tows 4,000lbs with max towing package. Hy turbo i believe it’s 5,000lbs. Non turbo is 2500 lbs. Zank on info
Non-turbo is 3500 lbs. I believe.
I wish this was 6 inches more in every direction
Looks like the Subaru Brat's big brother.
Looks nice but price is too much for $41K
Yes of course Joe and I'm going to buy one.
That sounds fantastic!
It kinda looks like a cut and extended tucson
Because.. it is.
This is very true!
Yup. It's based on the Tucson. If you look at the front and side of a Tucson, you will see that the Santa Cruz has the same lines!
Chevy should of brought the Ute and Ute SS over here, Huge mistake on their part, and their loss! but these are pretty cool, and 4-door. a single guy like me could get a lot of use out of it ☮
Good call for sure!
Nice
I am so glad that you like this one.
You cant compare this to a Ridgeline solely due to the price point. Ridgelines START at around 40k. People who want the Mav or SC want it because its way more affordable. I want this in a hybrid. I drive a Mazda 3 and although its been great, i need something bigger. But dont need an extended cab or something way too big. So really the only 2 that have what I want is this or the Mav. If only Mazda sold their truck in North America.
The XRT trim has turbo and can tow 5000 lbs, not the 3500 lbs of the lower trim pkgs
You are very right!
So basically you are saying that Jesse Pinkman would be driving this in Breaking Bad reboot. The running boards is a Zonk.
I see what you did there!
Strange that the taillights are not full LED, the brake/indicator lights are regular bulbs. Wonder what's the logic in that.😂😂
If you have a dct, its a turbo AWD, and has 5,000 lb towing capacity, not 3,500.
cool
I am so glad that you approve!
get rid of the back seats and extend the bed and i'll buy it
When Are You Putting The Review Of Chevrolet Blazer EV
December 13th is when the embargo lifts.
I'm surprised how many people call the Maverick, and Santa Cruz a " truck ", but the said the Ridgeline is not a " truck ".
This is true.
That's funny. The 2023 limited I have towers 5000 lb your wrong
Not a fan of either but they also aren't super ugly.
5k pound towing for the 2.5 turbo engine Joe.
I appreciate that intel.
Color looks like my cement Tacoma.
But can it be stolen by peeling the column and using your own cell phone charger to start it up?
I don't like A) Turbo, or B) Dual clutch. Can't you just make a 6cyl, 6spd AT or better yet, a 5spd manual option?
No. That issue has been fixed.
Help meeee this or a maverick?!? 😫
Is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz XRT a BETTER truck than a Honda Ridgeline? ----- No its not ! The Santa Cruz came out as a competitor to the Ford Maverick and got its buttox kicked by the Hybrid Maverick but the new 2024 Honda Ridgeline is also a better buy for the money if it is made after the engine fixes on its recall and maybe even look at the 2024 Colorado. For the over $40k of the Santa Cruz you may as well go for a medium sized pickup truck.
Uhm, a new Ridgeline even in base trim stickers over $40k after destination charges. But apples and oranges. SC is a compact, the Ridgeline is a midsize. The Maverick can be had with the 2.0L turbo for much cheaper than the SC 2.5L turbo. Like $10k cheaper.
@@Snake-ms7sj - Most all people wait in line for a year (some 2 years after reordering) to finally get their Maverick !

Now that is fascinating!
I refuse to deal with Honda ever again since they screwed me over on an older gen ridgeline I got from one of their stealerships. Santa Cruz wins by default for me
Put the 2.5T in the Tucson, and Hyundai would be getting a sale.
That would be interesting for sure!
This Santa Cruz, doesn't have much rear seat leg room.
Second🎉 ... Cool looking truck too bad it's a Hyundai
Why is that? Hyundai is among the top brands in reliability and they have the kickass warranty.
@gregkramer5588 cars are junk, service Bay is loaded with engines needing to be installed so you're going to need your warranty.
You would be surprised.
@RaitisRides there's a big problem with the crankshaft, many have incomplete Machining of the oil passages that are supposed to go through it resulting in oil starvation and spun bearings.... I think you would be surprised.... I know you don't believe me so feel free to Google it.

Dude, Hyundai doesn't call it a pickup truck, because its not a truck, It's a Crossover! Same as the Honda Ridgeline. It's unibody construction, a real truck has a full 'H' frame.
No rear vents or usb ports and no rear arm rest? 41k price? Usually Hyundai gives you value for the price, but this one is a BOO! lol.
