      Week 5 of suggesting this: You should really include "Drakkhen" on SNES in your skyboxes series. The game is an open-world 3D RPG with a day and night cycle, and amazing vibey music. Please at least check out the game!

    I think that the rain on the second day is more about producing a feeling of disappointment and melancholy rather than urgency. After everything is bright and sunny on the first day, this is like a solemn moment when everyone is beginning to lose hope and realize that the moon is actually falling. This is probably about the point when many of the NPC's dialogue goes from "There's no way that the moon is falling!" to "Oh, shit, it really is falling... This is going to negatively impact the festival, isn't it?" It is about disillusionment and the sickening realization that things might not actually turn out okay in the end.

    • @KairuHakubi
      @KairuHakubi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      I took it as just a sign that things are still going along as usual. If you just stop the moon, everything else in the world will continue as if nothing happened. Just that bit of continuity. That and reinforcing the groundhog day loop because it ALWAYS rains on day 2.

    12:47 That guy's actually the part-timer that works at night. The owner is the one who's there during the day; he changes into a different outfit and is the one who runs the Curiosity Shop at night. The part-timer actually is working part-time because he's in a band that apparently isn't making much money. You can see him in a tree in Termina Field trying to get some red rupees during the day. He says he stole the rupees from a crow... The same crow that circles Clock Town and is "fond of musical instruments" (according to a gossip stone) and will drop rupees for you if you play songs for it, implying he played music for the crow so it would drop rupees. Yeah, this game is amazing.
    Maybe the skybox that's left out is the one at the beginning of the game in the forest since you already covered it kind of?

    • @MetroAndroid
      @MetroAndroid 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      @@Drew_150 No, I'm referring to an unnamed guay that circles Clock Town and drops rupees if you play ocarina songs for it. It could be referring to Takkuri and that adds another element if it is because then he's stealing from his boss's side hustle lol. But he's much closer to Clock Town and pretty far from the entrance to Milk Road where Takkuri is at.

    My brother and I were at the hospital stuck in a small room over the last 8 days while he had tests run and I introduced him to your videos. They really cheered him up--he loves your sense of humor. However, I turned one of your videos up loud when he needed to take a crap in the bathroom to drown out some noise, and then it became a tradition. Anytime either of us had to poop, we'd pick out another egg busters and turn it up loud. He insisted I make you aware of this.
    edit: Oh and also I really liked this video too. I probably should have mentioned that.

    I’ve always felt like the skyboxes in Majora’s Mask did a lot more for the atmosphere than they did in Ocarina of Time. One of the things I remember most vividly was how beautiful the night sky looked, with its rich purples and blues and reds on the final night especially. It was oddly serene; even though you’re going to die in a couple hours, the sky offers some level of comfort in your final hours.

  • @dmansuperich2800
    @dmansuperich2800 2 ปีที่แล้ว +152

      I do that with 3D Zelda games in general. They're very immersive, atmospheric games that are awesome to just vibe in. Though what's great is how the three day cycle really adds to that in Majora's Mask case.

    Your talk of interior painted skyboxes brought back a core memory of mine. I went to las vegas when I was really young and one of my strongest memories is the underground shopping area under ceasar's palace. It's all painted up to look like a picturesque blue sky and all the shopfronts are made to look like exterior buildings, but it's so dimly lit that you constantly remember you're underground. The vibes were so surreal that I've been having dreams about it for basically my whole life ever since.

    Majora's Mask is by far my favorite work of art and I am happy that someone else takes the time to appreciate it and its details, such as the skyboxes. Learning about these skyboxes was super interesting, even if I already knew a few stuff about them. It didn't occur to me until watching your video that the shop is heavily themed around fishing, and the daytime clerk is the same NPC as the fishing hole clerk in OoT. I'm still figuring stuff out about this game like two decades later. I'm wondering if there's anything else that I missed that was completely in plain sight like that.

    I think this is your best skybox video yet! Like you mentioned, as compared to SM64 where you just talked about which ones you liked or not, this video really feels like more of an essay on Majora's Mask, where you use the skyboxes as the vehicle for analysis (like how an essay on an entire book may only use a handful of quotes to make its point). Longer videos like this are more than welcome

    Majora's Mask is my favorite game so I'm always glad to see videos on anything about it.
    As far as the skyboxes are concerned, I wholeheartedly agree that they really add to the atmosphere more that Ocarina's did, and reminds me more of SM64's skyboxes for that reason. I definitely would love more of these in the future (and more odd things and unremarkable places I've never looked at).
    The way the sky changes kind of feels like the sky (or the world) itself is experiencing the same changes that the people are. It starts with normalcy (clear blue sky), then more and more people begin to realize the Moon is actually falling (overcast and rainy). Afterwards, even more people begin to truly fall into despair and sorrow as they realize their fate (sickly green). Finally, the final day's beautiful night sky is when almost everyone accepts their fate and instead of being sorrowful, some find peace in knowing the end is nigh (best evidenced by Anju and Kafei's quest ending). Am I reading too far into this? Probably. Does this make any sense? Probably not. But this video made me realize this and so here is a long winded comment that says a lot of nothing. Awesome video, dude, keep up the great work.

    The second day rain is so tranquil, I agree it runs counter to the urgency the player feels.

      Also: longer videos are great! I appreciate when you take the time to link the skyboxes to the game's themes and objectives.

    The rain gives me a sort of loneliness in the world (as link). I know it will always rain on the second day. Every single time. It reinforces the idea that Link isn’t of this world, and that he is the one who can change things.

    Majora's Mask is one of those games that makes you view life differently after playing. They did time travel and created a sense of urgency in an alive world perfectly.

    I just replayed this game for the first time in forever and having seen your ocarina skybox video I was paying more attention to them while I was playing. I love how you emphasized the feelings the sky brings out in context to the events of the game. Great video!

    I think you'd like the vibe at some of the casinos in Las Vegas. They have fake skies inside the casino, and is kind of a "real world" skybox that you can truly feel.

    I think I know what you mean about the rain. The moon's closing in, sure, but... it's also just some rainy day. Rainy days happen. The world as a whole does not revolve around the moon falling, and it really drives home how this is supposed to be a normal town full of normal people. Which also emphasizes how much of a tragedy the moon falling is, frankly. The world is not an expendable stage that exists to be crushed. People here have their own business to attend to; they even experience things like denial that their lives are about to end. This is a very human game. How many games out there just have the townsfolk not react to the world around them? Or they have 4 lines of dialogue, 1 of which is reacting to whatever disaster is plaguing their game. Or they stand in the same spot the entire game, greeting you or mentioning something that happened ages ago (from your perspective) in the context of it being recent or still happening, as though they exist in a single moment of time. Majora's Mask is a very human game.

    During significantly severe storms the sky will have a green hue, people also believe it means a tornado is coming since the two often go hand in hand. Because of that I think the sky box being green is supposed to represent impending disaster, plus it gives a eerie feeling

  • @Avalinara

    I feel like the green tint is reminiscent of the yellow-y sky before a tornado or something. Gives the vibe of an incoming disaster

    I think the green sky on day 3 gives off an unreal feeling. It's surreal, that the moon is going to crush the world. That this is all a result of Majora's Mask being used to do so. This is not natural, and the closer you get to the night of the final day, the more you can just Feel how unnatural it is.
    Also of interest is that the sky is tinted a bit differently when you have time slowed down after playing the Inverted Song of Time. For example, it's sorta greenish on the first day when you do that i think, altho i might be misremembering.
