    15 minutes all about the sky JPEGs in the background of a Star Wars game from 17 years ago has gotta be up there for silliest video I've done. It's all earnest though. I love it. Thanks for watching.

      I’ve always loved your videos man.
      And while I know your video format is kinda “quick & cool things in games”, I would love even longer videos if you’re interested in making them.
      Hell, gimme those Polis Massa fun facts!
      Doesn’t feel right that you’d cut something you found interesting/felt passionate about just because of runtime.
      Your approach to showcasing things and your content is endlessly enjoyable to me, and I’ll never complain about having more of it.
      And your music rocks dude, I’m loving your songs, keep it all up! :)

    Very few series on TH-cam make me click right away, but this is one of them.
    Personally, I feel like it would make me nervous trying to calmly check out the skyboxes while there is a battle going on around me, lol. The way the planets look in the space levels (the flatness) is almost disturbing, and I am not sure that I even know what to say about the ground being decorated with skyscraper wallpaper.

  • @TsundereSupreme
    @TsundereSupreme 2 ปีที่แล้ว +97

    I was actually really surprised when you showed off the ground texture on Coruscant - I'm not sure if it's just a thing on the Xbox version, but I've had the PC version of the game for years and that features a dedicated floor texture, rather than just images of buildings. Also interesting is that you were able to run off the edge, as the PC version puts an invisible wall there.

    • @ladyandkidragmen

      That makes me wonder if the xbox version is using an outdated build or an outdated version of the map by accident

    The first game I've ever noticed "skyboxes" was as a child while playing the first F-Zero for SNES. Technically it isn't a box but it certainly achieves the same thing. It is astounding how much world building those sky boxes did with such little things. It really gets the imagination going. Maybe you could take a look at F-Zero next?

    I didn't know about this until a couple of days ago but, this would've been perfect for your odd and unreasonable places in Battlefront 2. On the Hoth map you can go over the mountain that Echo base is built into and get to an empty hanger and huge open area from the campaign. After playing since release and still playing consistently I didn't know that until I saw it in a video. I always assumed going over the mountain would give you the "leaving the battlefield" notifications

  • @thatsruffdog
    @thatsruffdog 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    *Here’s what I thought about the video:*
    I think the video length is good but in the beginning it felt very slow. It’s like I’m waiting for it to get started but then all of a sudden you’re giving it a final score and then I realize that there’s still over 10 minutes of video left. But those 10 minutes were a lot more engaging than the beginning. That’s how I felt while watching.
    I think something more important is the thumbnail. I almost scrolled past this video because the thumbnail was so dark or hard to read. You can see it in some previous videos as well. I like their design but if I didn’t know what the channel was, I wouldn’t have clicked on it. The first video I watched was the Mario Kart Wii video from a month ago because it was such a beautiful and captivating thumbnail.
    I wouldn’t want you to all of a sudden change the thumbnail consistency so I think if you could keep the general design but make it grab the viewer’s attention a little better (like make “Skybox Appreciation” white and make the title bolder or have a white border and hollow base), that would make it perfect.
    This comment was made out of love. I love everything about this channel and I enjoy watching these videos. These were my thoughts on improvement.

    I recognize that I'm late to answer this question, but I think I know what makes the space skyboxes fall flat; the images they use are very small and therefor rendered very close to the playable area, making three dimensional movement within the sphere feel unresponsive and claustrophobic; the environment in the "distance" does not track correctly from the player perspective. It also doesn't help that the planets look more like 2D portholes with no sense of scale. The whole experience makes you feel like you're all trapped inside a marble with walls just a few hundred yards away. To me this effect also contributed to the ships feeling like they all had very weak acceleration and handling compared to the ones you could fly in the original game (you may have only been able to fly around on that Besbin gas station map for a few seconds before exploding, but it was more fun than all the flying in Battlefront 2).

    I love your videos because you really nail *how* we played and experienced these games as children. Nobody else quite seems to get that.

    The odd part is I just checked in the Steam release of Battlefront 2 and the Coruscant skybox does use buildings on the "floor" or lower city area below the level but it looks better/different than the xbox version. I'm wondering if the two versions are actually different for that or maybe it's a weird texture mapping issue due to the game being played on a newer xbox console?

    You should do a sky box video on Sonic Adventure 1. Specifically In the level Lost World as Sonic right before the dark area where you see all those Mayan temples.
