I was surprised Cletus ended up being one of the longer Simpsons Histories. I think it's a combination of having a surprising number of spotlight episodes, as well as a lot of specific family details. I thought about doing a Simpsons Mysteries about his kids but decided manually counting them would be kinda boring. Also please pardon a few fuzzy images in here, it looks like something weird happened during the TH-cam render 🤔
I love when Cletus is suddenly and randomly articulate. Like when he throws the boots back to "await a woman of less discriminating taste" or how home schooling the kids "is a lesson in futility"
They totally lost that in the European Spanish dub. At least in the first sentence he says "tendréis que esperar a una moza menos remilgá", which is a very in-character thing to say.

I love how 22 short films treats Cletus like he’s a strongly established character that some “folk’ll” love and have made a fanbase around, despite the fact that he only had like 4 prominent roles as a background character at that point, and that’s made extremely obvious in the his title sequence. I think you could argue that was the intention of 22 short films: to basically turn Cletus into a character overnight by treating him as someone who was firmly established already. Even if he wasn’t
Squeaky Voiced Teen is absolutely needed. They changed this guy’s design so much in the earlier seasons that it would become a Simpsons Mysteries quite quickly.
Even his name is a mystery; it's been established that his first name is "Jeremy", but his surname has been given as both "Friedman" and "Peterson" at different times.
5:33 - regarding the whole "Cletus is secretly wealthy" thing, there's actually a quest in Simpsons Tapped Out that gives some interesting merit to that, even if it's canonicity is questionable It's revealed Cletus's family has a longrunning family feud with Mr Burns of all people, which had it's roots in Civil War era politics, but after the Spucklers lost their railroad business, they ended up liking their country hick lifestyle more than that of a stuffy aristocrat. Interesting food for thought
Please do Bumblebee Man. He's such an odd and random character, it would be interesting to know his complete history and usage on the show. Jimbo, Dolph, and Kearney would also be interesting since they've been on the show since season 1 and the show has done a lot of different things with them.
I'm also interested in seeing one on Bumblebee Man too, especially looking at his appearances off TV and inconsistencies regarding what little background is given for him.
I really just want to know the origin of Kearny and Dolph's last names. Jimbo Jones has been present forever, but where and when we're Zyzzwicz and Starbeam established?
4:00 I think this joke would have been even funnier if he had come out asking for 27 free pretzels, with Marge saying one per customer and he then would have called out his 25 kids each holding a coupon.
Love this series. I remember being so confused about Cletus's appearance in 22 short films of springfields when i was a kid, but dying laughing watching it now. Throwing my hat in for blue haired lawyer or that squeaky voiced teen.
The "Hey, kids, we're eating tonight!" bit from "The Twisted World of Marge Simpson" is probably my favorite joke from that episode. I would love to see an Extra Seconds video on that episode, maybe discuss any misgivings you had with it, since it didn't make the shortlist for Season 8 episodes, yet it didn't come up in your Hidden Duds video either. Probably something to do with poor Marge getting crapped on for most of the episode. (That "Determined or not, that cat must be long dead. That's kind of a downer." bit basically sums up that episode in a nutshell for me.)
I always forget it's one of the few Fat Tony episodes in the classic era. The mob stuff is really funny to me, but the Marge plot is pretty thin. This and the Lovejoy episode made season 8 a bad year for Marge
For a future episode, I'll keep recommending Comic Book Guy: probably one of the characters who changed the most thoughout the years as geek culture became more mainstream and how he reflected that.
I never cared for Lindsey Naegle, but rewatching the Simpsons I think it would be interesting to see a histories on her and see how much continuity appearances have. Also, I still think Moe would be fantastic to do. And possibly, the boat painting above the simpsons couch. Its silly, and not a character, but I think there's like. at least four different references to how they got the painting? Seeing a timeline of those would just be funny honestly
My favorite Cletus scene is when Officer Wiggum is tracking Bart and asks Cletus if he’s seen him. Cletus is whittling a statue of Bart and says “I whittles what I sees. And sometimes, the future”. Wiggum’s simpleton face staring at Cletus’s carved statue of a of a bear mauling Wiggum.
Regarding the number of cletus' kids. On the Simpsons Pinball Party pinball machine, there is a special mode you can unlock called pretzel multiball. To start it, you have to make 26 shots on the left orbit. This shot gives you one of cletus' kids. There are 26 shots needed, so its not really official but maybe Cletus has 26 kids.

His stereotypes jokes can often be very entertaining but not always. Please do a video on Santa’s little helper or Lindsay Nagel real soon! I also would love to see a history video on Duffman soon!
As always, great video! I had forgotten just how many stories Cletus has actually been involved in, especially in the HD era. My favorite jokes with him are when they give him something smart to say, or it's something totally unexpected of him, but he says it in such a genuine way. My vote for the next Simpsons Histories goes to the Blue-Haired Lawyer. He's been part of so many classic courtroom scenes, especially during the golden era. It would be fascinating to see all of his cases together in one video, since he's generally the one representing Mr. Burns. Another great choice would be Lou and Eddie, since they are generally together, and provide the foil to Wiggum's antics.
great video! have always loved Cletus, definitely one of the more silly characters. i think Bumblebee Suit Guy would be a good choice! "ayy ayy ayy, no me gusta molestado!"

Another great video dude. Cletus will always be one of my favourites from those earlier seasons for those random one-off appearances with those great visual or verbal jokes. I would be interested to see what you say about Lindsey Naegle next.
Cletus is one of my favourite characters since I saw "Cletus The Slack Jawed Yokel" and I never forgot that theme song. I agree with you about the repetitive jokes with the Spucklers and things getting a bit old after a while. There is, two more kids you didn't mention, Mary Not-Quite-Right Spuckler and Mary Zeke. For a future Simpsons Histories character, since she has been in quite a few episodes, what about Lindsey Naegle?
I'm surprised Groundskeeper Willie hasn't been covered yet, a character who I can confirm is beloved by Scottish folks as being both a comical stereotype, and a little too accurate to some parts. I'd love to see a Histories episode on him someday. "Go Aberdeen!"
Another great Simpsons Histories! I've been nominating these forever, and I'll keep trying: I'd love to see the Wise Guy (Raphael), Squeaky Voice Teen, Lenny & Carl, and bar flies Sam & Larry!

I'd like to see Lou, possibly paired with Eddie if he's not distinct enough on his own. I've found it interesting how his competency seems to fluctuate based on what the writers need from him at the moment, and I'd like to see if he's changed at all in the latter half of the run.
Lou is still the most competent police officer, and human in all situations, he appeared on the show very often with Chief Wiggum, but Eddie appeared on the show even less often! Lou and Eddie used to be paired together, but now Eddie is not even in the scenes, instead only Chief Wiggum and Lou are shown.
I'd really love to see Lindsey Naegle and Cookie Kwan for Simpsons histories. They're very rarely talked about and Lindsey Naegle has an interesting start to the show.
I know the Homer and Chalmers pairing was only mentioned for 2 seconds but I have to say it's such a feel-good pairing. It's a nice compliment to Homer's antagonistic relationship with Principal Dondelinger.
Considering it's a common gag to have characters like Cletus and Brandine have random bursts of self-awareness and uncharacteristic intelligence, I could probably excuse all of the inconsistent incest jokes as them joking about their own stereotype (ignoring for a moment that Simpsons and consistency isn't worth stressing over in the first place)
Could you do a Simpsons Histories on Comic Book Guy or Maggie? I think Maggie is still a secondary character despite being a Simpson, and definitely deserves one
😂A few years ago I was on a FRASIER kick, a subsequent Sideshow Bob & Cecil kick, & so Bob saying, "Oh, Cousin Merle, REALLY?!" became a shared meme between me & my friend. Like we couldn't stop making jokes cuz we kept thinking that would make a hilarious catchphrase for a corny sitcom between those characters.
Growing up one of my core memories is my dad being so tickled by the Cletus song, he'd sing it every now and then. I think Cletus was my first definitive memory of the Simpsons for that. So I have a very special place in my heart for Cletus, even if about 50% of my actual Simpsons exposure is from this channel. And I think my favorite child name was Rubella Skabies. I know the Homer and Chalmers pairing was only mentioned for 2 seconds but I have to say it's such a feel-good pairing. It's a nice compliment to Homer's antagonistic relationship with Principal Dondelinger.
Bumblebee Man!
Not because I want deep dive on him, I'm just curious if you can pad out 20 minutes of it!
Even if Cletus has some questionable moments, you gotta admit remembering all those creative names for his kids is impressive 😂
Q-Bert
i hope to see about the Mafia mobsters. amazing work as always
Throwing my hat in the ring for blue haired lawyer. Great vid btw
I CAN'T WAIT for the Simpsons Histories on Joey Jo-Jo Junior Shabadoo! BEST!!! NAME!!! EVER!!!
Great video as always. My vote would be for Lenny and Carl or Lindsey Naegle cause I barely know who she is.
I live for this series. Great job!
Top teir thumbnail as always!
I think Maggie is still a secondary character despite being a Simpson, and definitely deserves one
love the subtitles!
I’ve wanted this video for so long
You promised us mister teeny history in 2023, and now this, why does Cletus get the spotlight, we want justice for mister teeny!
Cletus is one of my favourite characters so I'm glad there's a Simpsons Histories episode on him
Yess I got so excited to see a new history, I love this series!!
❤ Awesome as always thanks
since christmas time, you could santa little helper, see how the dogs role in the family has been used over time
Growing up one of my core memories is my dad being so tickled by the Cletus song, he'd sing it every now and then. I think Cletus was my first definitive memory of the Simpsons for that. So I have a very special place in my heart for Cletus, even if about 50% of my actual Simpsons exposure is from this channel.
And I think my favorite child name was Rubella Skabies. Shudder to think what happened to her.
