Ironically, his dislike of rakes is literally caused by him trying to kill Bart.
"No, it's German for 'the Bart, the'," is such a perfect line, both in writing and delivery.
No one who speaks German could possibly be an evil man
But it doesn't make sense from a grammar point of view. In german we would use the masculine article and say "der Bart, der", for Bart is masculine. "die Bart, die" would imply him being a girl. Just saying, funny anyhow.

@@DarthMeteos It's easy to pin down Bob episodes. Even with all the random HD-era background gags. Now compare that to all of Duffman's random one-off appearances, and trying to weave together a character history; both in-universe and from a creator standpoint.

“The Bob Next Door” was actually the first exposure I had to the character, and it’s interesting how it kind of reboots Sideshow Bob, focusing on his relationship with Bart apart from his extended family, or even Krusty to some extent. I could tell that there was a lot of history to the character, and while I was a little lost, that’s what made the character intriguing to me. Nowadays, I’m always happy to see him return, but I agree with the sentiment that his story more or less ended in Season 8.

I'd love to see a Simpsons histories on Captain McAllister. A lot of people don't even know his actual name, they just call him the Sea Captain, and he's been around since the very early seasons.
Lionel Hutz exposed him as being not a real captain.

I second this. He has a great line in The Simpsons Game that goes something like "I almost never appear this much in the series. Of events. That constitute your lives." that always makes me laugh while also wondering how often he actually has appeared in the show
I liked the bit of Indiana Jones-ish history we got this last season though.
When I was a kid, I got a Simpsons Comic where Cecil has a rivalry with Lisa - pretty clever idea and shame that the comics came up with better stuff than the later show.
Honestly liked this single comic more than any of "post-classic" SB-centered episodes (even though it's not exactly Bob-centered by itself).

A lot of the comics had better stories. Sometimes I’ll remember a plot AS an episode and get confused when no one else remembers it.
Of the ones you’ve mentioned, Shelbyville as a whole sounds pretty interesting actually. Maybe capital city too if we’re talking locations. As for just people, it will probably be a very short video if you don’t have many strong opinions about him, but since they brought him back a few times , maybe an episode on frank grimes?

A little sad that you didn't mention the Simpsons Ride at the Universal Studios Parks, since they pretty much wrote the ride to be a Sideshow episode and having the ride plot around him. Kinda makes sense when you think that it originally was suppost to be a "Power Plant" theme ride, but they had to change it when Harry Shearer didn't accept the contract, but still. The Simpsons only have one Theme park Ride and they made sure to Include Bob and Kelsey Grammer's Perfomance on it center and focus and I find that very interesting and worth discussing.

I think the trouble with later Sideshow Bob is that there's potential there, but it's buried under the ramped up wackiness. The earlier seasons were good at balancing the tonal differences between seasons with the main point of the story, but the later episodes tend to get too invested in one side which means the actual plot tends to wander off and ends up unsatisfying and just weird rather than funny.
Yes the ones after the one he leaves for Italy as is the Simpsons show as a whole gets lost in wacky.
they also definitely fell into the trap of making him strictly formula, making his shcemes ultiamtely be about murdering bart, while in the classic era only ONE of his plans had was about killing bart, and he had other schemes that had nothing to do with him.
They also could've done more with his family after establishing them all as fellow villains, like a sorta evil counterpart to the entire simpsons family somehow.
My favourite Sideshow Bob moment was "Especially Lisa... but Especially Bart"

When I rewatched the series in order some time ago- it kinda dawned on me that Bob's revenge plots on Bart specifically only happened a couple of times yet the show seemed to always treat it as thought he'd attempted several times to kill Bart early on.
yeahfor some reaso the writers forgot about bob's other elements an focused too much on his desire to murder bart, likely because Cape Feare is one of the more famous and popular episodes
as someone who has never seen the Sideshow Bob neighbor episode, they definitely did NOT have to make his face falling off a running gag.
Bob got me to use "BY LUFICER'S BEARD" when I stubbed my toe instead of swearing, thanks Bob.

@@maganhassan2627 I don't think we've outgrown it considering I enjoy season 1-8 as much as ever. It's a show that should've been killed off after season 8, but it was just too popular and profitable so they hired a bulky staff of unattached writers and let it run its mediocre course.

I always thought it was interesting how he's considered Bart's nemesis, when Lisa puts in easily over 50% of the effort in foiling his schemes. I kinda want to check that Bob-Lisa episode out, they seem like they would have chemistry with one another when each of them loves being the smartest person in the room. Black Widower has got to be my favorite Bob episode just because we get all the threatening plans and mystery of Bob without some of the cartoonishness that debuted in Cape Feare.

I remember watching the Lisa/Bob episode and enjoying seeing those two paired up together even though the plot was bizarre and lacking. I recommend checking it out if not just for the satisfaction of seeing those two paired up finally
I think the problem with Sideshow Bob in the later seasons is that after his redemption episode they didn't really know what to do with him, so they just kept jumping back and fourth from him being redeemable, to him being even more evil than before.

Bob was such a manipulator that he made Bart look like the bad guy and him as a guy who did nothing wrong in front of all Springfield. This is actually a pretty clever commentary on the manipulation of the masses and in the end even Bart started feeling guilty, out of peer pressure.
Then we got one of the most chilling one liners in the show.

Call me edgy, but sideshow bob episodes need to have a dark atmosphere like Cape Feare. Its kinda like the invader zim in the simpsons. A goofy show suddently becomes surprisingly dark and serious out of nowhere in a way it makes sense, while still having goofy moments here and there.

@@goldenfiberwheat238 yeah, its a bit forced, but it makes sense. Yeah, the ending couldve been better, but the jokes in the episode are very good and the atmosphere has that sweet invader zim-esque mix between kid friendly and horror at times.
I'll be honest:
I think Sideshow Bob has an almost perfect record of episodes.
I even like The Italian Bob, and I hate travel episodes.
I admit that in the HD era it started getting spotty. There was an episode revolving around genetic manipulation that was all sorts of stupid and even one of my favorite characters couldn't save that one.
It's kinda amusing.
Krusty the Klown and Sideshow Bob are kinda tied to the nr 1 spot of my favorite Simpsons characters.
It's funny that the two characters I love most are so closely related.
So about The Bob Next Door:
I don't mind it. I think the 'I don't care if you don't have a face!' gag is very funny.

I love Sideshow Bob, I remember watching the episode where he sings HMS Pinafore as a kid. That episode got me into watching Frasier and Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. Kelsey Grammar truly has a masterful voice

as for sideshow bob, i think the reason he always worked well was because his character was so grounded with a love of the theatrics. post season 8, he's basically a super villain.

Maybe Bob discovers someone else is planning to kill Bart and decides to protect him because of both Bob's possessiveness and strange attachment to Bart.

12:30 After all of the modern episodes we've gotten with Bob, I think the writers should experiment with having him just be one of the various background characters that shows up from time to time. They could probably get away with recording Grammer's lines once a season to spread across multiple episodes, not unlike what they did with Phil Hartman.
With his many many complex scemes Sideshow Bob is by far one of the best villain types of the animation universe.
I would love to see a Histories episode on Lenny and/or Carl. Or maybe Moe.
I always wondered why he didnt just quit being on the Krusty show.
He desperately wanted to run the show. In act 3 he creates a kid show that is better than Krusty's in every way. It just so happens he is also a criminal psychopath.

The very moment I saw the notification I was here. Sideshow bob is amazing.
With Bob's second redemption having happened, I always thought the best angle would be to look at his past instead of resetting him back to villainy once more. There's so many unanswered questions about who Bob was as a person before/during his time on Krusty's show. It's always been heavily implied that he was actually a good person beforehand, and that whatever he experienced working for Krusty sent him down the wrong path.
I kinda agree. The Great Louse Detective would've been a good finale to Sideshow Bob's evil plans.

It's always fascinating to see the show deteriorate as it goes along. Following a single character really pushes that aspect forward as the plots get more and more contrived.

Please do a few more post season 10 episodes, we all know they are not as good, but I think there are some fantastic hidden gems. I have a top ten myself that are as good as any season 1-9 episode

Also, with regard to the timeline, does this imply that he was a homicidal maniac before meeting Bart? Or did he just misquote the line? Haven't watched the episode in a while.
it might be like his joke in the tree house of horror episode about how it took 23 years to kill a 10 year old. it's just a joke about how long the show has been on.
