I know this is a gag, but I would unironically really like to see more ranking videos about frivolous or cute topics from you; your ability to analyze, evaluate and persuade with even little details like this is a big part of what I think separates you as a critic.
Wowcrendor's "pointless top 10" series has unironically proven it's a good format, picking the most ridiculous, niche set dressing and trying to appreciate it is actually pretty cool
Anyone else think that Gentle Ben not looking like a Simpsons character, but an actual real world bear makes the gag that much more impactful? Seeing the other bears having big, goofy, Simpsons eyes in this list made me realize I never noticed that before. Also, props for Fozzie. I didn't care for that gag, but it's freaking Fozzie!
Can’t wait for the top 20 Simpsons elephants! Elephants have some of the funniest segments on the Simpsons, such as trampling on sideshow Bob and eating soldiers in Vietnam!
Great list, however at 6:27 Jims calls the bear Homer wanted "Sir-Hugginton" but it was actually called Lord Hugginton. Boy, I sure hope someone was fired for that blunder.
I thought Bobo was going to win, I’ll admit, but the number one spot did deserve to go to a real bear. I feel that way for all the same reasons I was disappointed in Aunt Patty’s coming out episode.
"Hey Waylon! Who's the bear? Is that the Mr. Burns you're always talking about?" I was expecting Homer to be on the list. But not even an honorable mention.
This might be a bit of a sappy comment, but a lot of the times when I wake up I'm just utterly sad and it takes awhile to adjust from that. Whenever I wake up and see there's a new video uploaded to this channel it instantly cheers me up and makes the mornings bearable (pun not intended lol). I can't thank you enough for making these videos, Jim!
No joke, my two biggest loves in life are Simpsons and bears. It was like you made this video just for me. I couldn't be happier. Gentle Ben absolutely deserves the number 1 slot, for so many reasons. His characterisation as a bear, just being a bear, is spot on. He's clearly been trained to do the job, but doesn't care for it in the slightest, and is probably just doing it to get fed. Then he sees the food and it all goes out the window. He only becomes aggressive when provoked, just perfect stuff. Then add to that it's an absolutely iconic Simpsons scene, partly because it is one of the best satirical gags on the show (in my humble opinion). The ridiculous premise, the nature of daytime talk shows like it, the commentary that you need so little talent to host such a show the job can be done by a barely domesticated wild animal with a microphone strapped to its head. Just wonderful. Also, you missed Smithers in a bear costume in your honourable mentions. Just an amazing video, thank you so much.
This reminds of when my favourite pop music critic youtuber suddenly and without explanation released a video counting down the Top 10 Buses of the '90s.
I know this is an April fools video, but I was genuinely invested in this. I was even a little disappointed that the polar bear from the movie didn't make it to this list. I have a fond memory of watching it in theater with my dad who had never seen a single episode before and fell asleep through a chunk of the first half of the movie. He woke up just near the fake "To be continued" and the polar bear kicking the fox got a real laugh out of him.
I for one am utterly shocked and appalled that the utter bathroom mat that is The Curious Bear cub managed to get on the list when other, obviously superior bears, namely Brown-nose Bear and the Intensive Care Bear are only in the Honorable Mentions. They would mop the floor with that green chump. I am but one step away from calling shenanigans on the integrity of this entire list.
I didn't realize the Ping-Ping and Sim-Sim bit was infamous, but I believe it. It very much feels like a scene more befitting of Family Guy than The Simpsons.
I love that there already are like 40 bears shown in this videos , but the conclussion is "every scene would be improved by adding a bear". And you are totally right btw
I know this is one april's gag, but I do geniuenly love how the bears look in The Simpsons. I'm always thinking about that one in the intro-act of "Much Apu About Nothing". He's just being a fella. I would trust him even if he betrayed me and mauled me into a gutter.
while i too LOVE the Smokey robot joke (i quote it a lot more often than one would think possible) my favorite is the "when a sign says Do Not Feed The Bears." Man, You'd Better Not Feed The Bears" bear.
The number one spot reminds me of a joke from Dilberts animated series. It had a bear on a talk show discussing economics. Or rather the show was about economics and the talking bear narcistically wanted to talk about himself and his ability to talk. And when he didn't get his way he maulled his fellow hosts causing one of them to lose there face and another to have a really sore ass.
Glad you acknowledged the little bear that's around Homer's arm in "'Round Springfield" ("man, you better not feed the bears!"). I always thought that joke was so off-the-wall. 😅
Gentle Ben is also my favorite Simpsons bear, though The Friendly Neighborhood Bear is my second pick. I honestly never noticed the picture above Lisa's bed, and I never figured that the statue of Jebediah Springfield was standing on a bear's corpse. I knew he was standing on something, but never bothered to figure out what.
Much Apu About Nothing is one of my favorites, and I know it by heart because I used it many semesters to teach logical fallacies. So glad the Bear Tax Bear made it so high on your countdown. And yes, he’s adorable! For a bear.
Bobo is the biggest woobie in Simpsons history. He was abandoned by Mr Burns, and then blamed for the fall of Berlin and frozen. And after all that, he still took Mr. Burns back.
I know this is more of an April Fool's video, but I kinda like it, when people talk about animals in videos, fictional or not. Next year you can do the same thing with dinosaurs, maybe.
If you’ve seen the movie *Funny Girl* where Barbra Streisand sings “My Man” at the end, you’ll understand. If you were born in the 80s and one of your first crushes was Ricky Schroder, you will also understand.
I don’t think this was an Aprils Fool joke, this was a great video with a lot of effort put into it and one that made me appreciate more of the bears in the Simpsons. Thank you Jim
I’ve always loved the Smokey the Bear at the nature center joke. Along with Bart’s “Can I play outside, away from the Bear?” Line. I worked at a town festival last year and since I live in an area prone to forest fires, the chamber of commerce and DNR put up a giant inflatable Smokey the Bear in the park. I forget how many times I walked past this thing, but every time I did, I had that bit running through my head.
Totally agree with your n°1 bear. It's one of those jokes that I remember, and if I randomly think of it I laugh. The best "tv technical difficulties" joke. I also really like the Cletus bear, for some reason that one also stuck with me, I guess that's what a great bear does
15:40 With every entry I knew this was going to happen, my certainty growing to a fever pitch, the honorable mention montage cementing it, and I was rewarded with the true #1 Simpsons bear.
Hi Jims! You may remember me from my comments on “The Simpsons Season 10 Retrospective” and not “Gladys, the Groovy Mule”. I’m here today to request a Simpsons Histories episode on the iconic character of Mr. Benevenstanciano. Thanks very much for your videos, over from the UK. Been watching for nearly five years now.
I think loveable bears vs violent bears needs to be approached situationally. The Simpson's has always been a show that elevates its archetypical characters through humanising moments so that we never lose touch of the people underneath the exaggerated humour entirely, and I don't see why we should make the exception for bears. What I think we're really missing is any long running bear characters. Sadly those that have appeared have always seemed to lack the longevity of monkey, dog or human equivalents. Maybe the world just wasn't ready for such comic dramatic genius.
Honestly I’d love to see more videos on animals of the Simpsons universe, there’s so much content to mine and the level of detail you put into seemingly frivolous topics makes it genuinely great viewing.

On a meta note, I saw your tweet about the computer disaster and that you thought this might not get out on time despite working so hard on it so I am very pleasantly surprised to see it up. Yay Jims!
Best possible outcome for a video released on April Fools Day. Not an absolute troll, just a descent into wackiness. Your use of the Brothers Bear theme music for your list of honorable mentions was what made it enduring.
Was honestly expecting your #2 to be #1 with how much you've talked so lovingly about that Smokey Bear joke. That said, I love that you picked a joke from my favorite Simpsons episode of all time, "Homer Badman" and would love live to see you do an Extra Seconds revoew of it soon. Follwing thr trend of what thumbnail you used for "Bart's Friend Falls In Love", I would suggest "See you in Hell, Candy Boys!" *Slow motion front-facing explosion*
