I wanna clarify my comment about Lindsey getting her haircut to hook up with guys (instead of for work). It comes off a little like I'm surprised she wants to look hot for guys. I was trying to observe how odd it was that this Business Stereotype has changed so much in her characterization during that era. She went from like all business to no business and it struck me as strange.
(I dunno if anyone really cares about that haircut comment, I just didn't think I explained what I meant that well at that part)
Gosh your dedication to detail & accountability is admirable
Did you just start a conspiracy theory to get out of admitting a mistake? /jk
I get what you're saying.
By the way, for future Simpsons Histories videos, I'd like to see either Martin Prince, Bumblebee Man or Ian the Very Tall Man.
my picks for future videos are
Dewey Largo
Duffman
Shauna Chalmers
Snowball

Lindsey is one of those character that you think is just a one off background character every time she appears and then you're like "oh yeah I remember her"
Also I wonder if her abrupt "I'm an alcoholic" and "I'm a sexual predator" lines are ways for her to get people to stop probing given her backstory of thievery, like "say something outrageous and uncomfortable to get them to shut up"
Headcanon accepted.
she could also have a form of tourettes
This makes it funnier too
That's very plausible and makes her way less icky
She could be related to "Just Stamp the Ticket" Man
Lindsey is the anti-Gil because she succeeds at everything in life while job jumping like crazy.
This is their secret: Lindsey absorbed all of Gill´s "any job" talent, half of his libido & 1/3 of his beauty on their first encounter.
Every Ying has a Yang.
And Two of them is no Exception.
With Gil you get the impression he keeps failing or getting fired. Lindsey, however, is just too mercenary to stay anywhere for long when she thinks she can jump ship to get ahead.
@@Belgand Headcanon Accepted.
-> This would explain why she is so open about her _other_ amoral adictive sin (sexual predator).
. This is at the same time so "shocking & yet true"; that nobody ever thinks there could be some other "deeper" reason for her chronic lack of loyalty [ "she gets _bored_ easily", rather than "she has a compulsion for -evil- _true neutrality_ " ].

In defense of Lindsey being Anne Boleyn, she handed out a business card about getting pregnant. SUCH a Lindsey move.
Really? I didn't recognise her, I thought the picture of Anne Boleyn was an original drawing.
If Lindsey wasn't such an anti-child shark in that one episode, she'd totally do it in the present day, too.
@@phineas81707 Who knows? Maybe she can change her mind, if she can see a positive business move with it.
“A son’ll come out- TOMORROW!” Like I can’t even lmao 🤣
I'm pitching Lou. Because he's so tied to Wigam, he's weirdly everywhere and they drop so many little character & backstory details in their banter that he's surprisingly fleshed out when you dig for it.
Yeah, I've just watched the early seasons and he used to be written more crooked, like I don't currently see him having a role as antoginistic as the one he had in One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish. He's now more the foil for Wiggum's incompetence.
@@luismarioguerrerosanchez4747 Yeah, Wiggum used to be the one competent cop.
I'm pretty sure they didn't even talk until season 3's Bart the Murderer, where the dynamic we know today basically began (although definitely more subdued compared to season 4 onwards, Wiggum actually doesn't seem *completely* incompetent in that episode)
@@usermcskull4713 No, as I said in One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish; Eddie and Lou had speaking roles, and that was season 2 as is Separate Vocations were they do also have dialogue; but they were so much mean in those episodes. If there is one change I like from modern Simpsons is how much lighthearted and good spirited is Lou now.
@@luismarioguerrerosanchez4747 I meant Bart the Murderer's the first time Lou and Eddie talk to Wiggum.
Although Wiggum does call out to them during Krusty Gets Busted, there's not a conversation there.

I kind of want to see a Simpsons History on Lunchlady Doris. She'd been around for a while, but in comparison to the other school staff, she kind of ends up fading into the background a lot and I hardly ever hear people discuss her individually, so I'd be interested in seeing if there was anything going on with her behind the scenes
Nice idea! I will put her second...after Arnie Pye! :P
Yesss
Her original voice actress died while season 7 was airing and they didn’t recast her until season 18, which is why they didn’t do anything with her for a bit.

They later killed off Doris via a retcon. Now it’s Lunchlady Dora.

My favorite part of the Lindsey/Marge fantasy is that that's the image one of the Simpsons Wikis use for "non-canon" parts
😂😂 you’re killing me, that’s too funny!
It's true
The best part when she kisees Marge in a Homer imagination.
Let's give Tress MacNeille her flowers. Goated voice actor.

Definitely a good rec. I don't even know how many Snowballs there are at this point I haven't watched the show in at least 15 years. LOL
Big fan of her. The speed of her jokes and the way she just steamrolls conversations always kills me. The What is Zazz joke always kills me. There’s something so funny about people that don’t argue with you when they’re blatantly wrong, but just shatter the conversation.
I didn't even know that this character had a name, And yet this was a great episode

I never realized how much of a frienemy dynamic Marge and Lindsey are.
Also, my favorite Lindsey moment is “YOU’RE THE FIVE PEOPLE I’M GOING TO MEET IN HELL!” from the movie.
Lindsey is a character I never really liked much when I was younger, but she has definitely grown on me over the years. I tend to lump her and cookie into the "post classic" era characters, so it always surprises me revisiting old episodes and seeing her show up in seasons 8 and 9 (I'm going to assume Female Business Executive is/was her, and that after she reformed from Teeny blowing her up, she regained the ability to cry)
I'm going back to pushing for Eddie and Lou for next Simpsons history. Eddie deserves some attention after how long he's been pushed into the Wiggum/Lou comedy duo's shadow.
you have good taste :)
I'd like to nominate Sam and Larry, I think we're a bit overdue for an extremely minor character histories.
Arnie Pye
Sam & Larry need some love
And they still show up even in the Post-Movie era into the Disney era.
I think it would be interesting to explore how their roles as the frecuent Moe's costumers was absorbed by the more charismatic and dynamic duo of Lenny and Carl
@@austinreed7343 I mean, idk why they'd get removed. Moe's Tavern needs background characters lol, easier for the storyboarders/animators to keep them and nice for the fans to because they get a little sense of continuity.
Like they're there in most scenes at Moe's, it's kinda cool to see this as a fan.
That being said I'm pretty sure they speak in like, five episodes tops
I continue my crusade for the story of Ralph Wiggum.
Ralph, Ralph, Ralph, Ralph!

I think my thing about Lindsey is I forget she's like, an actual character, since she always gets put in different scenarios. Gil and Hans Moleman are kinda that way too, but they always felt to have a reason to it, Gil being that he fails at every job, and Moleman being that he's kind of a joke character anyway. That said, I wasn't aware the fact she's always put in different jobs was brought up in an episode, and given her background as a thief it kind of make sense.
Anyway I'm still saying for Bumblebee Man
10:25 God, this got a huge laugh out of me. Jims going from impartial, collected, analysis mode into suddenly "What the Hell is going on!?" is too perfect
Also, do any Blythe Danner fans know why she's on this list? I feel like that has to be a reference to something I'm not getting.
Bumblebee Man would be great. But my dream is still the Simpsons' car(s) or Rev. Lovejoy
Oh my god yes I’d love the Simpsons cars that’s hilarious
Arnie Pye
@@kajavajiek9495The Simpsons cars would be great for April Fool's Day. Like a totally stupid video idea that Jims would treat with the utmost sincerity.
I have two theories for the tear duct thing.
Option 1: (The sane option) She got a second surgery to fix her tear ducts.
Option 2: (The Cuckoo Bananas option) Homer's time travel with a toaster altered the timeline so she never had the botched facelift in the first place.
Take your pick.
6:42 "Hel-_lo,_ wedding ring tan line, he's new on the market!"
8:00 "I'm gonna tell an anecdote about lovemaking...without having to look around."
Thirsty Lindsay is best Lindsay. I hope she stays single for many fiscal years to come.
She works hard and she plays hard. It's one of those little details that perfectly fits the stereotype. Straightforward, aggressive, and highly sexual.
Given her earliest point in the timeline has her being red-headed, i suspect she might simply be the sort to dye and/or bleach her hair. It all checks out.
I think it would be interesting to look at the history of squeaky voiced teen. I don't think his voice, design, or personality have been consistent over the years. So it would be interesting to see what are his consistent personality traits.
Maybe his voice being inconsistent could be intentional, with it being how voice breaks happen sometimes.
I propose Raphael aka sarcastic clerk for your next Simpsons histories.
Is he from Bronson, Missouri, or just related to people from there?
@@Leopoldshark Good point. Maybe some material for a Simpsons mystery video!
I think one of the other reasons Lindsay often gets overlooked as a character is because she's one of those background characters that straddles the line between recurring archetype, like The Sarcastic Guy or The Squeaky-Voiced Teen, and full-fledged supporting character like Chief Wiggum or Mayor Quimby. She's much more akin to characters like Hans Moleman or Ol' Gill - characters who have names and specific personality traits associated with them, but aren't meant to have strong continuity behind them. The problem Lindsay runs into in this role is that she's less immediately distinct and memorable than her fellow multi-use characters - She doesn't have as immediately distinctive of a voice as Ol' Gill, nor is she some kind of mole man, like Hans Moleman, her design and mannerisms are, at first glance at least, much more mundane. As a result I think a lot of viewers tend to mentally file her in the same category as the background archetype characters and don't really register her recurring appearances as being a single, coherent character so much as a general archetype, I know I certainly have.
And it's kind of a shame that that happens because, as this video demonstrates, Lindsay is a great character with some absolutely amazing moments and bits. But she's a character that doesn't have as immediate and memorable a hook as others that sticks in people's minds, so they remember the bits she has, but don't connect them as being part of the same character.
That's a good way of putting it! Lindsay's one of those characters whose design doesn't live up to the Matt Groening rule that you should be able to tell who they are just from silhouette.
The writers just aren’t good at creating female characters because it’s not as easy to laugh at them
Lindsey is underrated. Best girl
To me, Lindsey, is the quintessential '00s' simpsons character
Lindsey Naegle's legitimately one of my favourite characters, so happy this video exists.
Literally just her entire existence is funny to me, I love her almost Phil Hartman-esque line deliveries.
I like pretty much all of her appearances a lot, I legitimately found it hillarious how often she used to be appear.
I remember being very disappointed when I was watching through 16-26 and even though she's more prominent from 27 onwards, idk it still doesn't feel like she appears a lot anymore.
I prefer her in a business role, but her promiscious role is good too tbh, I find her sheer existence funny so it doesn't matter what she does, I'll probably like it
I already liked you, TRJ, but that Wolf of Wall Street joke made me say "I love you" out loud. That's a real classic-era joke.
Lindsey is genuinely one of my favorite Simpsons characters. She has one of the highest ratios of jokes that kill me to her total screentime. I do consider her and "female marketing executive" to be clearly the same character, btw.
This has honestly been the Simpsons histories I've been waiting for the longest, along with Miss Hoover. For the next one, I would still like to see the Sea Captain! He's another interesting "million jobs" character who kind of exists on the periphery of the cast. But what interests me about him is how, characters like Lindsey and the Squeaky Voiced Teen fill much more common, relatable day-to-day generic roles, the Sea Captain is so particularly cartoonish. It's so funny how often they find use for this guy.
I co-opted “ frequently and thoroughly” into my list of expressions because of Lindsay.
6:05 the joke she makes about why she changes jobs so much is so utterly incongruous, it's why I wanted you to make this episode to dig into her.
Botox actually can leave human body with time (this why people do botox injections so often) and ability to cry can return, so tear evidence isn't substantial, it is the same character.
Even so, I'll take earlier episodes over later episodes, so even if we take the crying as evidence, I'd rather ignore that than take it into account. They've done more retcons and lore breaks than that.
But have to consider the entire series needs to take place within the span of about one year, right?
Characters can lie as well, it's not out of character for her to make up a lie like that.
She can cry, but she doesn't care enough about what's happening to do so. She knows that she's coming off as cold and uncaring so to save face she invents a reason why she can't cry.
While she's capable of being brutally honest, she's also quick to lie if it serves her professional goals.
As far as retcons go I'd say it's a pretty minor one.
@@BagOfMagicFoodone year and a dozen different presidents lol
Also it’s the Simpsons
Lindsay is so underrated, I find her hilarious and Tress delivers her lines brilliantly.
I didn't think hearing you say 'slutty crayon' would make me laugh so much.
I would like to nominate Groundskeeper Willie for a Simpsons histories I think that would be awesome.
she has it all together in her work life, and her personal life is a mess - i think that is just called a work life balance haha - but really she’s such a great character! i am so glad she’s getting her video
I like Lindsay. I mean, I don't, she's an awful person, but she brings a fun energy. Marge vs SSCCATAG is a great episode. I never realised until this video just how many times Lindsay's default outfit has changed - from the suit with the ribbon tie, to the V-neck with the frilly sleeves, to the cardigan and camisole, to the current suit with the buttoned up shirt. Multiple colour changes among them all too. I guess she's the only person in Springfield with an actual wardrobe?
As for the exec in The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show and Girly Edition, my vote is that yes, it's her.
Regarding future Simpsons Histories, let's make the people who think Lindsay is the harbinger of the end *really* upset. Julio or Shauna.
Watching this video made me realize hos much she really has been on the show; I did not expect her to have so many appearances.
I also think it's interesting that her first proper appearance (Girly Edition) was also the introduction to Crazy Cat Lady, another character that went on to have many appearances and get additional characterization.
I would support a Simpsons Histories for Crazy Cat Lady, by the way. I love those characters who they only introduced to do a single joke ("can any woman who loves cats that much really be crazy?") but then they kept bringing her back.
For something new to consider, top 20 anthology skits.
he'd probably have to exclude 22 Short Films About Springfield so that the list wouldn't be very obvious lol
@@usermcskull4713 yeah i mean technically most people would consider the non-TOH three-parters anthology episodes, 22 short films is a different beast out of that league imo
I would have included the Omni Touch representative in season 10's "Make Room For Lisa" as a Lindsey prototype. She's pretty much the same character just with a different design. The other all-purpose characters, the squeaky-voiced teen and the sarcastic man, who work a multitude of jobs and have little relationship with the Simpson family, had different character designs before before having a consistent look and a name (Jeremy and Raphael respectively). She was probably thought of as "generic business woman" in her earlier appearances serving a more functional role in a story then as an appreciated character in her own right.
"Communication and Unity: Community"
Glad you included her Uncut Femmes backstory. One of the better s30-32 era eps and I've never understood the people who insist it's non canon. Considering the rest of the show's flexible approach to continuity, yes even in the classic era, it's odd to me that some want to insist on striking that one from the record.
people think simpsons has a canon? wild
Also, they've already done an episode where Sarah's new personality comes back. It's brief and a one-off joke, but in Poorhouse Rock, Sarah slyly admits she knows Helen Lovejoy's Netflix password and implies she didn't get it from *her*.
@phineas81707 I think there was one other reference as well but it escapes me at the moment.
3:14 You can't blame him. They're spectacular
Circular (pi).
I think she and Herb Powell can make for an interesting couple. Maybe an episode where they start dating or even marrying, that combo of an earlier Simpsons character with one of the middle seasons has potential in my opinion.
I personally would love to see Lenny and his history, the way he went from being revered as the greatest human alive as well as an average loser always impressed me, "Not Lenny!"
Can I suggest Ralph Wiggum? It’d be interesting to see how they evolve and try to “explain” his character over the years
Still can't believe their hasn't been a histories for Willie, comic book guy or Agnes Skinner
Lindsey was always one of my favorite Simpsons characters, as well as Tress Macneille characters.
She's just one of those characters who never becomes stale, no matter how many times they used her.
Lindsey Naegle is one of my favourite characters to mostly exist outside of the classic era. She snuck into the show quickly with a bunch of notes and questions, and that’s the Lindsey Naegle way. I also think Tress MacNeille is one of the only voice actors who could make those darker lines remotely workable.
I also noticed that you’re starting to refer to HD seasons as part of “the middle era”, which is gonna take some time for me to get used to. Most of the time, when someone says “middle seasons” in the context of The Simpsons, they usually mean c.10-the movie. But currently, the mathematical middle of the show would be 13-23. Time takes no prisoners.
Middle will always be post-Golden Age. The specific term might change or it will get subdivided, but it's definitely the Middle Ages compared to the Modern Era of the past few seasons.
I think we'll eventually define it as the Al Jean era. With the Scully years forming a sort of transitional hangover period.
I squealed aloud when I saw this video title.

FINALLY!!! I was one of the people asking for a Lindsey Naegle video and it's finally here! 🙌🏻
Same, now I need to think of a new character to start requesting
@Getlucky12 Personally, I would love to see a Histories or Mysteries video on Allison from "Lisa's Rival". I always thought it was so interesting that the character was introduced as a Friend of the Week for the special celebrity guest star (she was voiced by Winona Ryder)... but instead of disappearing like most of these characters do, she ended up being relegated to a background character, only serving as part of Lisa's friend group along with Janey, and Sherri and Terri that dumps Lisa when the writers need Lisa to clash with another celebrity-voiced character like Alex Whitney.
It's just so weird because we see throughout "Lisa's Rival" Allison seems to genuinely like Lisa as a person, and likes being friends, and even when Lisa admits to trying to sabotage her diorama out of jealousy, Allison forgives Lisa and they seem to make up and remain friends, only for Allison to become... well, I wanna say Richard and Lewis type characters, but they at least still get speaking roles and interact with Bart (or occasionally Lisa). I don't think Allison has had a true speaking role outside of "Lisa's Rival" since that episode first aired - at least none that I've noticed! The extent of her interactions with Lisa, or even Sherri and Terri and Janey, is just silently existing as a member of the group and nodding along with whatever someone else says, and maybe a bit of background chatter where the character isn't actually saying anything, the VA is just making random crowd noise to make the scene feel more lively.
This is something I’ve been waiting for, for years. She’s probably my favourite female character in the show.

It's great to finally get a Simpsons Histories on Lindsey Naegle, since I've wanted to see one for quite a while now. I've always found her quite entertaining, and the fact she's voiced by the greatest voice actress around, only strengthens that. I've always loved her entertainment industry appearances, and love when she pops up in other things, given she's so much fun. It's hard to say what my absolute favorite moments with her are, but I love her appearances in episodes like Marge vs. Singles, Seniors, Childless Couples, and Teens, and Gays, as well as when she appears in episodes when she's not quite the main focus, but has hilarious moments, such as in The Heartbroke Kid and Homer Scissorhands. Thank you for finally covering Lindsey Naegle. Now that another of my longtime requests has been done, I will suggest the ones who haven't been covered yet, such as Agnes Skinner, Duffman, or Santa's Little Helper. Great work as always Jim.
Lindsey Naegle is a pretty unique type of a character in the way that she slips into the show in her debut and has perfectly assimilated into the cast ever since. Kinda like a businessperson.
I've been wanting a Histories episode on Lindsey Naegle for so long. Thank you!!
Not sure if anyone is familiar with Chad Rocco or "CR!", he used to be part of Channel Awesome and does this series called "Familiar Faces", where he takes a look at this one obscure character or piece of media that he really likes but feels doesn't get that much love or attention. He did an episode on Lindsey Naegle, and he expressed his frustration at how some fans and even The Simpsons as a whole doesn't give her the respect he felt she deserves. In particular he calls out The Simpsons Movie for not even bothering to show her among Tress MacNeille's credits despite showing Cookie Kwan and Crazy Cat Lady. I recommend people check out that video, and who knows, maybe CR will see this video too!
Everytime there's a deep cut like Lindsey Nagel, we get one episode closer to the inevitable Benavanstanciado history.
Legitimately one of my favourite minor characters. I think Lindsey is very underrated really; she's funny, has interesting quirks a great foil for Homer and/or Marge and I think she has a very neat character design.

I consider the old brown-haired executive lady to be Lindsey Naegle. She's the exact same character design and voice. She just dyed her hair and reversed the botched tear-duct surgery. I've always thought of her as a classic era Simpsons character. I never noticed her design change until this video.
As for "which direction to go in for the next video", out of the three options (random job, entertainment, heavy hitter), I'd vote heavy hitter. Let's see that Lenny History!
(Also I want to nominate Database for a future vid. One day this week I was just randomly remembering how hilarious his voice was. Did they ever do anything with him?)
This is really reminding me of the web show Familiar Faces doing an episode on Lindsey and her appearances that I liked. That was done years ago though. So it was nice to see what she's been doing lately.
Love to see another video about a location, like you did before with Evergreen Terrace.
The town hall, Moe's, tut's, the church, Springfield elementary, your pick!
I'd say that is Lindsay in the Poochie episode. Her hair changing colour is hardly any more farfetched than Barney's hair or the many characters whose skin colour changed. Her voice, personality and the rest of her design all fit.
Would've been interesting to see how Lindsay could've affected earlier episodes if she was introduced earlier. Certain Krusty episodes, Sideshow Bob Roberts, the Blinky episode, maybe the Malibu Stacy episode. I think she could've combined well with Lionel Hutz
Lindsay is such an underrated character, theres never a moment when shes on screen when shes not an icon

Treehouse of horror reveals this that ya know scene@@LazurBeemz

Been waiting for this one!
This is a character I've never thought about! Thankyou for making this!
