Did you ever think of any of these? Hope I raised some new thoughts.
Wait wait someone said the game tells you their piranhas?! I didn’t remember that at all. My bad! 😣
Yup, piranhas have their own dialogue and portrait
Yup. The first time you step in the swamp water a piranha will tell you to keep your feet out. Working off that more, when stepping into freezing water an icicle tells you how cold it is and a sand eel in Gobi’s Valley tells you to keep out of the sand.
@@scotthacker543 lol I somehow completely forgot about it. The best part is. If I had just looked a bit further back in my own playthrough I would have seen it 😂 oh well. It got people talking. I’ll take the L.
I remember piranhas warning us about the water in the swamp, it is propably them eating Banjo's feet
Yep. I forgot that I had to add it to my pinned comment. Oh well!
One of the Grunty trivia questions at the end asks exactly this. It's piranhas for sure.
@@jiggylookback Yeah, it's piranhas. Specifically telling banjo to keep his smelly feet out of their water
@@CleaveTheDragon in Freezeey Peak when you go into the cold water the ice says something similar too like "Is the water too cold Banjo, then stay out" and in Gobi's Valley it's the Sand Eels
Yes it was.
I love that I'm not the only one still obsessed with this classic game in 2024, Been playing it since I was 3 years old on my Dad's N64 (now I play on PC). I even learned how to play some of the music from the levels on piano by ear
That’s awesome! Love that! Great tunes!
Bubblegloop Swamp's water is infested with piranha The first time you are injured by one, it will speak to you. What's interesting to note is it's character icon looks exactly like Bitesize from DKC 1.
I completely forgot about that.
Thanks for sharing that tidbit about DKC I love that!!!! Further connections!
Thank you for the super chat. Really appreciate that!
@@jiggylookback You're welcome! 😊
Tooty living somewhere else does make sense. At the beginning of the game, she's running over TO Banjo's house, and she isn't just hanging out there in future games, so I'd have to guess Banjo's parents live somewhere else.
Gruntilda's lair has a few structures in it that seem to imply unseen occupants, like the huts in Mumbo's Mountain and Bubblegloop, the lighthouse and sandcastle in Treasure Trove Cove, and the ring of houses in Freezeeasy Peak.
100% yes
I think Bottles is just super nerdy and knows how birds flight works. I'd like to think that if our duo were two different animals, he'd be able to teach them different moves based on their natural animal abilities.
Haha maybe so!
Gruntilda was mumbos student?! Thats actually a super cool funfact!
Bottles has that nerdy look so im guessing he just knows all that theorie because he read it in books!
Yeah! Crazy fact!
Just makes it a little more weird that mumbo pulled up with flowers after Grunty uses the machine.
I guess his allegiances lie with Mumbo tokens alone. And what does he even do with those tokens? Maybe in Banjo Threeie they'll go into all of this more
@@klaushammer8687 it should have been a bonus if you collect all the mumbo tokens it breaks the curse and he reverts back to his normal form. This would give you motivation to collect them all since there is extra!
Here's one for ya:
Towards the end of the game, when you have the ability to roam around the transformation room, there is a red lever, in the middle. When you jump on said lever, the camera pans and zooms in, implying further required actions. I do it every playthrough hoping I accidently find a way to pull the kever.
I’ll have to try that!
I absolutely love seeing these kinds of videos show up on my feed! These old games have a magic to them that is hard to reproduce, and the way you presented the video was super charming. Keep it up man, can't wait to see what you cover next!
Edit: 5:27 Old games had a strange interest in disembodied hands (Zelda alone has the toilet hand, the Wallmasters/Floormaster, Deadhand's army of hands, etc)
Yeah I remember that! Pretty wild. Master hand crazy hand too!
I always took the disembodied hands in N64 games for granted. But now that I think about it, it‘s really weird. There‘s Eyerock, the odd hands boss of Shifting Sand Land in Mario 64. Bongo Bongo in the Shadow Temple of Zelda OOT also has floating hands. Then there‘s Glover, a game dedicated to a disembodied hand and what about Master Hand of Smash Bros.? I‘m sure there are more!
It‘s definitely a theme of N64 games and would make an interesting analysis video. Somehow I also had to think of Chameleon Twist. Where there hands too? 🤔 Nevertheless also a weird game that deserves more love and mysteries that need to be analysed 😉
Edit: Also thought about Rayman‘s and Ed‘s limbs (Tonic Trouble) but I see you already made a video about that.
You might be onto something about Bottles being a martial arts master. In the rom-hack "Banjo-Kazooie: Stay At Home", the bear and bird explore worlds from other N64 games. In each world, they find that the boss has already been defeated! Each boss has a note next to their body, each with the same words written on them: "Bottles was here". Although it was by pure chance, it was a galaxy brain move on Gruntilda's part to kill him at the beginning of Tooie. With nothing else to teach Banjo or Kazooie, Bottles would have been free to aid them on their quest directly.
That’s amazing I need to play that rom hack haha
The german version of the game actually shows you the Piranhas that bite your feet in Bubblegloop Swamp. The first time you accidentally step into the water they encourage you to keep doing that. Is that not the case in the english version?
In the English version, the Piranha says that Banjo should keep his smelly feet out of the water.
@@ricardocantoral7672 OH! Your are right!
I mixed up the Shark from treasure trove cove with the piranha. In the german version they also go on complaining about his smelly feet.
I think Mumbo is actually a civilised Grublin. Schna ha ha!
Lol I can see it
But then what is a Grublin? What are any of these strange fairy tale creatures?
@@davidbarkhausen7739 what is a grublin. The new question lol
@@jiggylookback B-K mysteries, part 2ie
@@davidbarkhausen7739 I’m gonna have to make follow ups to everyone I do I think XD I’ll call them even more mysteries lol
Banjo Kazooie and Tooie was my childhood cartoon. I remember being so excited for both games. When I received them at 2 different Christmas day, I always looked at the box art and manual, until we got home. Christmas at grandma's... Big Christmas tree, the long table, where everyone would eat.. (BIG family) The countless presents under the tree.. Best memories. Hope I get to give my kids a similar experience.
For OoT and MM, again 2 different Christmas day. My parents woke my and my sister up at like 4-5 am just to open the gifts 😅 I was so happy to receive N64 games. I remember the feeling so fondly.
I will make up something, to share my joy with my kids. Maybe show them the old tv commercials for retro games, and if they get excited watching them, then I'll know which games to give them 😊
That’s awesome :) those old games were the best gifts. Still are!
Man, I would love to see Banjo back. Besides Rayman. I actually got a good feeling for both though soon...
Yeah me too.
I'd love to see Rayman back, but it is doubtful. The creator of Rayman left the gaming industry and Ubisoft seems to have forgotten that he even exists. They seem to be more interested in massive multiplayer games riddled with microtransactions.
@@mattb6522 That is not entirely true though. Rayman 3 was done without him. And lately, he has been pushed a lot. See the laserhawk TV show, or his return in Sparks of Hope, done by ubisoft Milan, who stated more than once their interest to bring Rayman back. There's also the youtooz merchandise, and now a new Board game announced for him. Also, next year is his 30th anniversary. So there's actually hope, and the fact that that Ubisoft is acknowledging him again, supports this merit.
@@mattb6522 Ubisoft Montpellier and Milan are the ones, to bring him back. Prince of Persia was done wonderfully by Montpellier, that also produced Origins and Legends. So they're still capable of producing such good games. It doesn't need to be a Triple a title even.
Ive been wondering, why is tooty not in banjo tooie
Yeah for real
I like how the developers fully acknowledge that she's missing. The milk carton in Cloud Cuckoo Land's garbage can.😂
I heard that Tootie’s actress was not able to play in the second game because of an injury
@@_miteo That was a cover story. She was written out of the second game because she was in rehab.
I love your more recent mystery videos, and mysteries in general. I think for Rare's catalog, you could make hours of speculative content for just one game alone.
Heck, these games are MADE for mystery.
Clanker's probably one of the biggest mysteries to me in Banjo-Kazooie:
Well, moreso WHAT Clanker is.
He's Gruntilda's garbage disposal machine, but needs air, and has fleshy bits to him.
I also have wondered why Captain Blubber's ship is just stranded in the middle of Treasure Trove Cove.
Excellent thoughts!
And thanks for watching btw! More coming :)
I am so high right now bro I love your videos and this is perfect timing
That’s a really funny comment XD I’m glad you enjoy them

Welcome to Jiggylookback! Appreciate you watching!
Bro I was so into stop n swop when I was little and the pirate in JRL and references to old games
Right?! Have you seen my Rare Universe video? I highly recommend it.
1. I choose to believe Mumbo is either a Jinjo or something related to them. He could also resemble the Grublins since they share some design similarities and appear to be the natives of the area.
2. Bottles is well-read.
3. Probably just cartoon logic and/or magic.
4. Seems to just be a storage room for extra items.
5. I think Gruntilda had kidnapped the Jinjos to draw upon their magic and make herself even more powerful. I think the Jinjonator is some kind of ancient Jinjo weapon/guardian that Grunty deliberately built her lair on top of, thinking she could suppress it with her power.
6. No idea. You've got me there. Maybe Grunty was constructing some kind of seasonal getaway cabin. Since her lair has a doorway that leads to Click Clock Wood, I imagine the location has some kind of significance to her.
7. Piranhas.
8. Either a giant mummy or possibly just a giant disembodied undead hand as you implied.
9. I was always under the impression that Tooty lived with Banjo and had just woken up before he did and went out to play to pass the time. But I like your idea that she could be visiting from the Brothers Bear group.
10. I think Gnawty is a native resident of Click Clock Wood but definitely related to the enemies from DKC.
Word!
I'd always assumed that the CCW treehouse belongs to the beehive which is near it in spring, moves inside when the house is finished in the autumn, and is hanging outside when it's boarded up for winter.
The other beehive who house-sits for Mumbo in the winter does suggest these are characters with rich, full lives...until Banjo and Kazooie callously rip them apart.
LOL could be!
I love all the mystery surrounding this game. Stop and swap one is probably the most intriguing. Looking forward to your next video, my friend!
Thanks so much! Still working on what it’ll be haha but it’ll be a banger I’m sure
Dude, it finally dawned on me that Banjo is definitely the WORSE big brother in history.
His little sister Tooty lives in the same house, but she has no bed or any separate rooms as her own. Tooty went straight up missing in the sequel without a trace, and the absolute best Banjo has done was post a Missing Person poster and nothing else; he and Kazooie just played cards with the gang. Finally, after many years later, as Tooty was sent to some undisclosed prison confirming she's alive and well, Banjo not once attempted to find her nor dare he utter her name.
For a duo that loves adventuring and will search every corner for an obscure shiny object, they didn't even try with Tooty. Banjo wanted her gone.
Yeah Banjo is a pretty terrible big brother after Kazooie lol
If Mumbo's whole face was transformed then his original head wouldn't necessarily have to fit under his skull mask. Also I'm headcanoning the carpenters from Ocarina of Time are building the house in Click Clock Wood. They love to slack off, hence why you never see them and building seems to take so long. As for Bottles, I think he is just a nerd. His just repeating what he read in some manual somewhere, and who knows if he is even teaching us right. Maybe he got one of Jamjars' old military manuals and that is where he is getting his info from.
I love all this haha. Connecting to ocarina is the best lol
Awesome video, I love Banjo games deeply and I’ve been wanting to make my own speculation vids lol.
Here’s my opinion on a couple things. I always assumed Nabnut was simply building the treehouse as well as all the plank extensions next to his house. He’d probably want to expand it out just to have more room for stuff, and the treehouse could be for a friend, or just a shed. You could even imagine that Gnawty’s helping with the wood if you want lol.
And as for Grabba/the mummy hands, it’s a pretty loose connection but you COULD say it’s a reference/remnant of the Giant, who was the antagonist of the beta version of Banjo. For example the unused map Giant’s Lair has vaguely Gobi’s Valley looking architecture and Grabba’s laugh is the same laugh as heard in the beta track “Giant”
It’s probably not an intentional connection, closer to my own headcanon than anything lol.
I’ll have to look at this beta connection. I like it. I also like Nabnut and Gnawty working together
There is another leftover in Click Clock Wood.
The first time you defeat one of the wall-birds in your gaming session a cutscene is triggered showing the bird fall out of it's hole.
I discussed this with some people on reddit and we came to the conclusion that it could be one of the following things:
- The cut-scene was supposed to show the birds drop an item, like a jiggy or the caterpillars that you need to collect for Eyrie the eagle. The caterpillars where instead just scattered in the world.
- The birds would talk to you like other enemies and antagonize you.
- There was a bird boss-fight at the top of the tree and that was his deafeat animation. The boss fight was scrapped and the boss arena was swapped with the now very anti climatic whiplash room. The cut-scene was left in the game by accident.
I like the last one the best, though I have no idea why they would do this,
I think kazooie uses pocket magic like how link has his inventory or how Erza stores her weapons from fairy tail.
You should watch my theory video on banjos backpack
@jiggylookback ooo I'll go check it out
For some reason I've been on a banjo kazooie nostalgia binge
Aaah, what a fun video this was, it brings me back to the boundless curiosity I held as a kid. I was 5 when the GameCube released, so I actually grew up playing both N64 and GCN in tandem
The combination of Banjo-Kazooie and Pikmin gave me a deep appreciation for that specific sense of mystery and intrigue... and is probably why I spend so long thinking about things that, in the grand scheme of things, don't technically matter
I would often spend hours just listening go the music or gazing out at the backgrounds, wondering what else is out there; as if these were real worlds and not fictional settings limited by mundane things like filesize and time constraints
I haven't completely outgrown my curiosity, but sometimes I envy my younger self for being able to daydream so vividly without getting stuck in logic / reasoning like I do today. I guess this is kind of a rambly comment, but I mostly wanted to say how nice it was to see a video like this, and to thank you for your effort
Thanks so much for watching I appreciate that! I know exactly what you mean! Those old mysteries really peaked my curiosity as a kid. I’m trying to recapture that magic in a way!
I’m gonna have to revisit pikmin!
If mumbo can perform magic including:
-infusing life into inanimate objects
-bring people back to life
-whatever he did in jolly roger lagon. Like seriously, how do you define "being able to breath lake/ocean water like air" he didn't give banjo gills. Its like he rewrote the laws of nature or can straight up reality warp on a limited scale.
So yes, i do honestly believe he should be a better magician than grunty. With these feats alone.
that latest ‘project dream’ video actually had me earlier today. which says more about my towel’d mental state at the time probably.
Yeah it’s really well done

Can’t wait for Banjo-Tooie Mysteries! Such as the secret life of Grunty’s sisters that would make them label the laser buttons like they do lol
LOL
The swamp have piranha in the water. I don't play the game by a lot of years, on N64 the first time you touch the water there is a message with piranha saying something, it happens only the first time you get damage by the water
Yeah I completely forgot lol I should have remembered but oh well. That’s what happens sometimes :)
These mysteries are so mind blowing. They also make sense
I aim to focus on things others probably haven’t questioned 😂 welcome to my brain
In the old Timon & Pumbaa cartoon from the 90s, there were actually three natives, similar to Mumbo Jumbo, who wore masks and feathers. However, once they took off their masks, it turned out that they were just normal people.
I like this connection to Timon and Pumba haha Hakuna Matata!
Same here Lion King is my favorite movie
Very nice! I was always curious about that random room in the church as well. It just seemed so bizarre to have a weird empty secret room similar to that strange pillar room in Donkey Kong 64's Creepy Castle.
Is there going to be a Mysteries of Banjo-Tooie? 🤔
Did you see the pillar mystery was solved?! In it was supposed to be a golden dk statue! It’s found in the German game guide!
And yes there will be a tooie one!
I first met banjo on timbers island......... really nice bipedal humanoid bear creature.....nicest I ever met
Yeah I agree and this is why they need to do remasters or make a third one it's criminal how we didn't get a new banjo and kazooie I swear that should be illegal LOL
Yeah for real
@@jiggylookback yeah for real I can second that one LOL
I think it would terrific if Rare teams up again to do remasters of BK and BT with Stop and Swap included.
@@ricardocantoral7672 I definitely agree
Don’t sleep on the Xbox 360 versions. They both look and run great.
I have a mystery question. If Grunty was trapped under a boulder for 2 years, then who moved Loggo to Grunty Industries?
Great video and happy belated birthday!
Excellent question Klungo maybe and thank you!
I was going to say Klungo 😂
The BK church window reminds me of the hidden passage in the Temple of Jiggies. Just a weird reward for quite the secret path. :/
Right?! Feels so exclusive.
Oh yeah the many mysteries the Game got. I remember when I was playing it as a kid and saw the ice key, I was so damn sure I can collect it.
Yeah stop n swap was legendary. This game has been covered to death so I wanted to offer some bizarre questions and things I encountered to be different.
I really loved this video too, because there was some stuff I didn't know about the original Banjo-Kazooie game.
Very cool! Thanks for watching!
@@jiggylookback you're welcome
I got one: What happened to all the minions that roamed Gruntilda’s Lair after the events of Kazooie? They definitely don’t appear in Tooie.
Good question. And why are they replaced?
Comment boosting for algorithm. Well done friendo.
Haha I appreciate that!
Here's something I'm wondering: Banjo speaks normal English (or whatever language you have it set to) in Diddy Kong Racing, but speaks gibberish in his games. Did he learn to speak normal languages when he raced with Diddy, Conker and more or did he and his sister learn gibberish when they moved to Spiral Mountain?
You and I are on the same page!!! I’m covering Diddy Kong Racing next 😎
In Bubblegloop Swamp, the things biting Banjo's feet are piranhas. First time you step into the water, a piranha says something to the effect of "Keep your smelly feet out of the water.
Yeah lol I completely forgot
5:10 My guess, Flesh eating bacteria!
Lol
I always thought that the person building the cabin was Klungo.
Could be!
The stained window always confused me. I bet you they 100% were planning on making it something to do with Stop n' Swap considering how Rare was planning on making that a huge thing between Kazooie and Tooie.
Also, for the house in Click Clock Woods, when I was a kid, I always thought that it was built by a bunch of residents of the woods so they could stay warm and safe during the winter. As to why you never see them, my theory is that whenever Banjo enters a new season, he is actually going forward or backward in time to that world but to only one day (i.e. When he enters spring, it's April 3, Summer is July 14, Fall is October 20, etc., etc., etc...) Maybe he just enters on days where they are off work (like weekends).
But that also raises the question, when you enter worlds, are you being teleported to somewhere on the earth, are these worlds a different dimension, or do they only exist inside of their opening (i.e. Treasure Trove Cove only exists inside the giant treasure).
I'd love to hear your take on these theories. :)
That’s an interesting concept. I will be doing yet another series exploring game worlds and that may be a question I look into..,
Pretty sure there are tiny piranhas in Bubblegloop. And Gnawty could be a common name among beavers, like Smith is for humans. So maybe the beaver in Click Clock isn’t the same guy from DkC
Correct! And maybe! Similar to Kong and Kremling it’s a species name
I wonder if subconsciously I know there's a new game coming out
I really hope so. My channel is good for a BK content binge I think XD trying to offer some unique things
I wanna know if the door in Gobi’s Valley “leads to” the volcano world in Banjo Tooie
Excellent question
In Rusty Bucket Bay in one of the sailors room's on the wall there's a poster of Conkers girlfriend (well from the pocket tails game) does that imply that the ship at one point was in the area that Conker lives in??
It could imply it travels to these locations…it would make sense with my Mapping the Rare Universe video if you haven’t seen that!
Or maybe Conker was on the ship.
If Grunty begins the beauty transfer when Banjo enters her lair, why is she not still using it when we get to Grunty's Furnace Fun?
She's too busy roasting Banjo (and making it rhyme)
This ^
Any chance you'll do one for banjo tooie
Yep! High chance!
Out of curiosity, have you checked Banjo Threeie by Project Dreams or the fan-made 3D-animated series by LankyTurtleMedia?
Not the animated series but yes Project Dreams and I pop into each others videos all the time! I’m sure you can find my comment. I love the concept for Threeie!
@@jiggylookback I really recommend the animated series. There are few episodes which may leave plot holes and there is humor that may be ignored, but the concept may fit a remake...

Excellent question
In the first game, Brentilda was Grunty's sister, and Grunty was the black sheep of the family. In the second game, we only see Blobbelda and Mingella. Did I miss something?
You did not. Brentilda like Tooty disappeared and never came back. I don’t even think she’s been mentioned
And what about the room near the top of Grunty’s lair where her beauty machine resides? There are locked doors on either side of that machine…where do they lead?
Good question..where do they lead?!
Jinjonator remins me a Megazord from Power Rangers series and i beat this game before 2002 Korea/Japan World Cup.
what I've always wanted to know is who's that nabnut's sleeping with
Right?!
Clanker's Cavern: How was Clanker built? Was his brain once a living thing? Why does Grunty need Clanker? How did Gloop the fish get there?
