yup, planeshifted cards like damnation take up the last slot. time spiral did the same thing with the timeshifted reprints, and futuresight with their look into the future right?
I wasn't really expecting to get my money back but it was worth it just to see some of these cards again. I also forgot how many good uncommons/commons were in this set. Still worth it to hear Rudy's reactions to the cards.
this was one of Rudy's most entertaining videos ive seen! he really appreciates similar things about the game as I do, awesome card art! its funny how he keeps saying "oh im not supposed to know how to play" great video! how much was the box?
Equalized if youre a patreon he cuts you a deal based on the market price on ebay. I didnt realize how many uncommons and commons had value so i might see if I can send Rudy some shipping money to send everything. I like Rudy and im glad to support him, i also knew going into it that unless i pulled a foil damnation i was highly unlikely to get my money back.
Hello Jonathan, sorry for the inconvenience but I do not understand patreon's system. Does not he send you all the Cards? Which ones did you buy? I ask this for your comment saying that you will send more money to send you everything.
About the rarity. The Planshifted Rares come in the Planeshifted Uncommon spot. That means, there are always 2 normal Uncommons, and than either a Planeshifted UC, or a Planeshifted Rare. So every Booster with a Damnation contains an extra regular rare. (Planeshifted = The ones with withe Letters).
Watching this because groundbreaker is my favourite card and I didnt play during this set so I wanted to see what opening it looked like. Not disappointed! Thanks Rudy!
Man, looking back at older sets is so nostalgic. Also, saddening because of how much work went into the art and card design. They really look and feel like "Magic" cards. Nowadays we have computer created artwork, it doesn't have that hand-drawn feel, and the try to make the cards looked streamlined at the cost of flavor.
I remembering pulling three of the same rares back to back to back. I went to my LGS, and pulled 3 Akromas out of the three packs that I purchased. I was king of the store. It was so cool.
I busted a case of time spiral, planar chaos, and future sight. Case prices were less than $400 & you got a free ultra pro bag with it. Buddy and I split a case every set for 13 or so years. I remember buying urza saga packs for $0.99 USD each.
Hoping all those boxes didn't become submerged during the hurricane! Enjoying these wayback box openings. Gives some perspective to just how damn long this game has been around.
2:59: "You gotta be an expert to know what you are doing, and I'm an expert!" 15:02: "I dont know when you calculate the value of a box like this, how do you really calculate the value"
Timeshifted cards in Planar Chaos are also distributed differently. In each pack, three common cards are of the Timeshifted variety and an uncommon is replaced with either a timeshifted rare or uncommon. Foil cards, instead of replacing a card of the same rarity, replace a common card. www.wizardscupboard.com/planar-chaos-booster-pack-p-21043.html?osCsid=8efbeecfe0914b920726eb9a70500e85
Hello Creepy Rudy! I don't remember the last time I played Magic, but I really like your videos! To help you achieve your deserved 100k followers, I just subscribed to your channel... and this is the first, and only channel I'm subscribed. Happy floppy taco for you.
I opened a box of this set back in 2007 when I was in high school. I opened 2 foil rares being Jedit and Vorosh and 2 damnations. This set was so fun, the Time Spiral block was amazing
This is when I came back to Magic. Lorwyn was my first set back as a limited player, and I bought boxes of everything I could that was still default price from behind Lorwyn. I was able to get boxes from the entire Time Spiral block and it was so much fun to draft. You needed the whole block for diversity but my god it was good stuff. All my Magic nostgalgia is for Time Spiral/Future Sight/Planar Chaos/Lorwyn/Shadomoor/Morningtide/Eventide and when I originally played which was Tempest/Stronghold/Mirage/Urza's/Masques. Those are the two best eras of magic in my eyes. By the way I always forget to like Rudy's video's. I just take the floppy tacos for granted and devour them as soon as they appear. Don't be like me guys, like the tacos...Actually I don't want Rudy's channel to get too big because then his tacos will belong to more people, so nevermind! Don't like!
i remember opening a pack of planar chaos when it was released, i opened a damnation, extirpate, and foil extirpate all in the same pack... it was my single best pack i ever opened if you get a planeshifted rare, you get a non shifted rare also, and you can stillget a foil rare in there as well, and it doesnt take up a rare slot
@Alpha Investments In each Planar Chaos pack there is one Uncommon OR Rare color shifted card (Like Porphory Nodes color shifted Drop of Honey), in addition to this there is a rare. Damnation is a color shifted card so it can only come in this slot. In addition to this you can get a foil rare, so you can end up with triple rare packs. There were a bunch of other color shifted rares you missed like a 2nd nodes and a Shivan Wumpus.
I played back during this block and i dont quite remember the weird double rare packs, but a couple years ago i went through all my old commons and uncommons and found about 10 Spirit Guides and was super happy.
I opened several boxes of Journey into Nyx a few years back and one of the boxes had those same not very shiny foils. Though in my case it was every foil in the box, not a mix of normal and weird ones. It must just be some printing error that happens from time to time.
When I drafting this set at my local, I opened a pack that had a foil Expatriate and Damnation. I couldn't decide which to take, so the store owner told me to keep the pack and got me a new one for the draft.
I know I'm late but this video is causing me physical pain at his lack of knowledge. 1. This set contained the 5 planar chaos dragons which were the opposite of the original invasion dragons (they were each based on a color wedge as opposed to allied shard). Numot, Vorosh, Oros, Intet, Teneb. This set started my dragon deck many moons ago and it's a continued evolving thing to this day. 2. Double rates happen if a pack contained a "timeshifted" rare, aka a reprint for this block that was sort of the whole gimmick. Hence 2 uncommon and 1 rare tineshifted card and 1 regular rare. 3. This set gave me my favorite card in a booster box that I still proudly admire to this day, a foil Akroma, Angel of Fury. Much nostalgia, aside from Rudy seeming to not know much of anything about the set itself.
I wonder if you got one of those boxs I heard about where a factory worker looks at and manually handles for whatever reason before sealing, and sometimes they end up mixing up the cards so they arent in the exact order they were supposed to be.
Haha you can tell how good of a person Rudy actually is. "Instead I'm like a hairy homeless looking guy." ... "Wait, what? That's kinda... I guess most people shouldn't say that kind of stuff." Haha love you Rudy.
In the past, you spoke about how natural attrition has seriously effected the amount of pre-rtr singles. Given that you live in an area prone to natural disasters, how do you protect, for example, your reserved list collection from damage? A waterproof safe? Hope you, your family, and your green screen made it out unscathed.
Wonder if Rudy dug out the rares I believe it (3) in the uncommon pile. Triggered would go time stamp then but I am behind on my TH-cam videos watching!
I agree I thought one of the tribal decks would be slivers. Dragons made sense, Wizards made sense, the Dragons made sense, and the Vampires were trendy. I wish they would have pumped out a 5th deck like normal.
The booster packs included eight "normal" commons, three "timeshifted" commons, two "normal" uncommons, one "normal" rare and one "timeshifted" rare or uncommon card (there are three times as many "timeshifted" uncommon cards than there are "timeshifted" rare cards, making it three times as likely that an uncommon will appear in this slot).
The alternate border cards are "planeshifted." Planeshifted rares take up an uncommon slot. I believe foils take up a common slot. I think 3 rare packs were possible.
This set featured time shifted cards. Cards that do something from another color that it's color normal does not do. That is why the borders are different on some to indicate a card that has a color shifted mechanic. Mana Tithe is a good example of a white card doing a blue mechanic. This also tied into the lore of the set with all the mana and planes in chaos. When you open a double rare you get a time shifted card and a normal rare. A time shifted rare is 50% more rare then a normal rare. This is pretty much where I started magic at the end of Ravnica and the start of time spiral. But then I dropped off shortly after(fuck you Kenneth you cheating cunt), I loved this set so much. I will be playing again hopefully with the return to Dominaria as that is where the time spiral block took place.
The planeshifted rares being in a different slot would have something to do with the higher number of duplicate rares, since there are essentially only 41 rares for the standard rare slot.
Well wiki says there was 50 rares. 40 normal rares and 10 time shifted so you were going to be getting a lot of duplicates. Uncommons and commons also had their time shifted cards also.
The best rares are Damnation, Urborg Tomb of Yamgoth, those Porphyry Nodes, Boom//Bust, and Extirpate. Best Uncommons are Necrotic Sliver, Pongify, Keen Sense (all others mid prices are below 2 on TCG mid price). Best Commons after Simian Spirit Guide; Sinew Sliver (only above 2) and those mana tithe's that Rudy passed.
Also, I learned today that porphyry is a real word that is recognized by google and auto correct. It is apparently "an igneous rock with large crystals in a fine-grained matrix, or associated mineral deposit." source - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porphyry
I said this on a different video, but maybe consider listing the big hitters in the set before you start opening, so the magic noobs like myself know what to root for. Regardless, your videos are always entertaining, thanks man!
An average Planar Chaos pack gives 8 commons, 3 colorshifted commons, 2 uncommons, 1 colorshifted uncommon, and 1 rare. However, some packs will replace the colorshifted uncommon with a colorshifted rare, which would give you a two-rare pack.
Welverin I don't believe so because the foil replaces the non foil in the pack. So let's say you get foil uncommon, you get 2 regular Commons in the pack and the foil uncommon at the back
You said this was a prerelease box if that's right then this was among the first to show the massive card distribution error. You gonna have to go back and grab those rares you slammed into the uncommon pile.
I graduated highschool in 07 and thats when i switched to only playing digital. probably would have stuck to physical cards if I close friends that I hung out and played magic and not only online.
Timeshifted rares or foils replace an uncommon.
Missilanious this comment gotta go up cause it speaks the trutg
yup, planeshifted cards like damnation take up the last slot. time spiral did the same thing with the timeshifted reprints, and futuresight with their look into the future right?

how much was the box?

I ask this for your comment saying that you will send more money to send you everything.
Got any of the slivers left?
12:37 Rudy missed another dual rare pack and casually tossed the Porphyry Nodes in with the uncommons.
He did that with 2-3 other packs as well.
Dominik Batók I recognized the nodes too. Was that a thing in this set?
shivan wurm
And a Gaeas anthem.
Nodes were a thing if you liked Drop of Honey. :)
About the rarity.
The Planshifted Rares come in the Planeshifted Uncommon spot.
That means, there are always 2 normal Uncommons, and than either a Planeshifted UC, or a Planeshifted Rare.
So every Booster with a Damnation contains an extra regular rare. (Planeshifted = The ones with withe Letters).
you tossed alot of rares in the uncommon piles...... look again Rudy
I know it was driving me nuts, he forgot he needs to check the last 2 cards in these packs.
I was getting anxiety from it
you saw that too...lol
12:37 for proof
I love how the audience here just doesn't miss a thing.
This was one of my favorite sets. From Time Shift to Shadowmoor were my favorite sets. I would love to see you open more those sets.
Watching this because groundbreaker is my favourite card and I didnt play during this set so I wanted to see what opening it looked like. Not disappointed! Thanks Rudy!
Before the first Commander Precons, those dragons were THE wedge color commanders.
The old art work is so friggin good! Everything just looked so raw, colourful and detailed.
Hoping all those boxes didn't become submerged during the hurricane! Enjoying these wayback box openings. Gives some perspective to just how damn long this game has been around.
2019 Time Traveler Here - "2 times is not an accident" is my new favorite Rudy-ism (thats a giggidy)
2:59: "You gotta be an expert to know what you are doing, and I'm an expert!" 15:02: "I dont know when you calculate the value of a box like this, how do you really calculate the value"
Awesome video. Wish there were more old box openings.

I’ve officially turned to Rudy as my “videos I wanna see while I’m doing other things because it’s fun to listen to”
The Shivan Wumpus was a rare card! Video at 13:57 minutes. It was one of those double crazy a...s rare packs.
He missed so many rares
Hello Creepy Rudy! I don't remember the last time I played Magic, but I really like your videos! To help you achieve your deserved 100k followers, I just subscribed to your channel... and this is the first, and only channel I'm subscribed. Happy floppy taco for you.
Likes anime... first subscription is Rudy.... Nope not creepy
You passed so many rares- I love this set- the leg dragon cycle, the color shifted charms- Mana Tithe!!!! Oh yeah
You passed a few rares in the the packs that had an uncommon removed for a rare
I opened a box of this set back in 2007 when I was in high school. I opened 2 foil rares being Jedit and Vorosh and 2 damnations. This set was so fun, the Time Spiral block was amazing
You got two Damnations as well? It seems I got two foil rares as well, Life and Limb and Porphyry Nodes.
I wish Rudy would go back to our glory days with our plain chaos in 2007...
I love how Rudy acknowledges the lack of artistic integrity in comparison to the older sets.
Same
I FUCKING LOVE THE BACK TO THE FUTURE REFERENCES!!!!!! Your the best RUDY!!!!
This is when I came back to Magic. Lorwyn was my first set back as a limited player, and I bought boxes of everything I could that was still default price from behind Lorwyn. Back in the 90'ties one of my friends won the danish championship with a dedicated sliverdeck. Sliver Queen ruled :)
i remember opening a pack of planar chaos when it was released, i opened a damnation, extirpate, and foil extirpate all in the same pack... it was my single best pack i ever opened if you get a planeshifted rare, you get a non shifted rare also, and you can stillget a foil rare in there as well, and it doesnt take up a rare slot

Hope you and your family are safe man. Love your videos, keep them coming!
When I owned my store, Planar Chaos had recently hit the streets. I remember opening 2 rares quite often for this set.
I opened several boxes of Journey into Nyx a few years back and one of the boxes had those same not very shiny foils. Though in my case it was every foil in the box, not a mix of normal and weird ones. It must just be some printing error that happens from time to time.
watching the playlist I have set in my hobby room. holy timmys taco spread over a urzas saga box while listening to WAP I love this channel....
This that good shit
THE RARES RUDY.....THE RARES IN THE UNCOMMON PILE!
When I drafting this set at my local, I opened a pack that had a foil Expatriate and Damnation. I couldn't decide which to take, so the store owner told me to keep the pack and got me a new one for the draft.
Rudy, please keep making the awesome content you already are. You`re the best \m/
this was the set I started playing with...
can´t believe it´s been 10 years.
I know I'm late but this video is causing me physical pain at his lack of knowledge. 1. Don't usualy watch box openings because well fuck that, but i really enjoyed watching this. Kudos Rudy.
The art in this set is insane. Wow.
I once opened 3 uncommons and 3 rares from this set in a single pack. so these were dangerous times.
13:56 Shivan 17:30 Gaea at least two of the Rares missed.
Those free Damnations from Magic Rewards were THE SHIT... i was so happy to get mine.
Awesome artwork
5 years later, Rudy they finally made a sliver commander deck.
you can get 3 rare in a booster, the regular + the foil + the timeshifter, what a souvenir :p
Haha you can tell how good of a person Rudy actually is. "Instead I'm like a hairy homeless looking guy." ... "Wait, what? That's kinda... I guess most people shouldn't say that kind of stuff." Haha love you Rudy.
From a pack of Khans of tarkir " Odds of premium cards approx. 1/67 cards" so slightly more common nowadays to get foils
Awesome booster boxes back in the days
Wonder if Rudy dug out the rares I believe it (3) in the uncommon pile. Triggered would go time stamp then but I am behind on my TH-cam videos watching!
It has a hint of foiling for the shiny metallic conscious. gawl
I don't really now how to describe this channel. But it's good * thumbs up *
Planar Chaos is my favorite set, thanks Rudy and buyer guy this made my day
I agree I thought one of the tribal decks would be slivers. Dragons made sense, Wizards made sense, the Dragons made sense, and the Vampires were trendy. I wish they would have pumped out a 5th deck like normal.
@9:20 when you pull Ezreal and than Taric back to back, coincidence? or Rudy's flopy taco ? you be the judge
must be a heck of a storm to still be down
Loved this set so much
I bought and cracked time spiral, planar chaos, & future sight boxes when they came out. like $65
Favorite Block.
You would get 3 shifted commons, 2 regular uncommons and one shifted uncommon. A shifted rare could replace the shifted uncommon
god damn this video takes me back
The booster packs included eight "normal" commons, three "timeshifted" commons, two "normal" uncommons, one "normal" rare and one "timeshifted" rare or uncommon card (there are three times as many "timeshifted" uncommon cards than there are "timeshifted" rare cards, making it three times as likely that an uncommon will appear in this slot).

Colorshifted, not timeshifted
Creativity, art and card stock quality were all so much better back then.
LEGIT Rudy does these videos naked. Caught a glimpse at the beginning when he was kicking boxes around!
6:30 @ Rudy: you could have a color shift rare and regular rare in same pack. The best combo during the day was damnation and extirpate.

However, some packs will replace the colorshifted uncommon with a colorshifted rare, which would give you a two-rare pack.
Yep, there were packs with 2 rares during Planar Chaos.
It's also one of the rare sets with the potential for a triple rare pack, if you can get a foil on top of the other two.
Welverin I don't believe so because the foil replaces the non foil in the pack. So let's say you get foil uncommon, you get 2 regular Commons in the pack and the foil uncommon at the back
Ovinize made my day. Another ridiculous card I just have to add to my edh decks just for getting some laughs out of it :)
You said this was a prerelease box if that's right then this was among the first to show the massive card distribution error. You gonna have to go back and grab those rares you slammed into the uncommon pile.
just found a journey into nyx wrapper, says foil odds are 1/67 on there, same for m12
There was 9 double rare pack, and he lost two. Love the old sets.. would like to see a onslaught oppening ;)
PUTTING SO MANY RARES IN THE UNCOMMON PILE. GOD DAMN IT
This set has Rudy's taco all confused. Misses multiple double rare packs. Wizard trolling poor Rudy.
Super Interesting set!
this is around when i began doing this stuff dang memories
I graduated highschool in 07 and thats when i switched to only playing digital. probably would have stuck to physical cards if I close friends that I hung out and played magic and not only online.
Sound effect Rudy needs to appear more. Every box cutter better have a voice of reason from now on lol
13:57 missed double rare, Shivan Wumpus
im think so, same thing happened when i opened these boxes too.
Rudy! You're killing me! Pay attention to your set symbols. Check yo darn piles! You're extra floppy today.. lol
The slot before rare can be a inverted rare or uncommon i think
1:07 what outfit?
Yup, I remember all of those cards.
Man, that is one sweet camera picture...
Wily Hobbit oo
It is fantastic to be drunk while watching your box openings....
Hope you get power back soon
I am reading this..... and at this point i assume you do infact have your power back on
It's not an error to get two rares in one pack, bc there are timeshifted cards, in each pack, that can be an additional rare
Saving this for later...when the wife and kid are asleep. ;)
