  • Ever wonder why the Royal Family bought Balmoral Castle? Me too! So I went to Scotland to find out. June’s Journey is available on Android and iOS mobile devices, as well as on PC through Facebook Games.
This time the American Viscountess, Julie Montagu visits Blair Castle in Scotland. The wild beauty and atmosphere of the Highland landscape so moved Queen Victoria and Prince Albert during their stay in 1844, that they went on to purchase their own highland retreat - Balmoral Castle.
Julie visits the archives of Blair Castle to discover how the Royal Household accompanied the Queen during her private stay. Julie meets RSM Graham Jack of the Atholl Highlanders to hear that Queen Victoria was guarded by the regiment in 1844, resulting in the Atholl Highlanders being presented with the Queens colours in 1845. Today, the Atholl Highlanders are the only remaining private army in Europe.

OK, so i thought I'd give this a watch and within 10 words you have facts wrong. It wasn't Queen Victoria that purchased Balmoral Castle, it was in fact Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's husband that bought it. He bought it, based on how he and Queen Victoria felt during a visit to Scotland. Please if you as a Content Creator on TH-cam do some extra research on the subjects of your content, a quick google search works wonders.

I so appreciate the fact that you don't clickbait your videos. You make a statement or ask a question, answer it, and then expound on it and give us additional relevant information. I'm so tired of videos and articles that make you watch/read the whole thing and then give a 5 second/half a sentence actual answer at the very end after making you go through a bunch of barely related nonsense. More people need your integrity when they create content!

As a descendant of the McDonald Clan, I hope that one day you can visit a castle in the western Isles of Scotland. My branch actually came from the Isle of Mull & settled in NSW, Australia when they were all starving in the mid 1800s & being shunted off to either America or Australia. My Northern Irish family also came out around that time as well due to the potato famine, eventually they were to meet up two generations later & become my grandparents on my father's side of my family.

Sadly, not a word about Ardverikie House, the 19th-century Scottish baronial house in Kinloch Laggan, Newtonmore, Inverness-shire, Scottish Highlands.
The lands historically belonged to Clan Macpherson, which offered the place to Queen Victoria before she chose Balmoral.

I would be very interested if you continue this story line and I would imagine that your audience would be as well. Could you please make arrangements to view Balmoral Castle and meet with its estate manager and archivist to further educate the public about Balmoral and its grand history? There are very limited photos of the interior and in fact not much coverage has ever been done to my knowledge. This would be most certainly a feather in your cap. Perhaps your in laws could help you to gain a proper introduction to the King or the key persons who run the estate. Cheers!

Just a quick note that the Queen Mary sailed first in 1936, so she wouldn’t have worn a 20s evening gown, but there used to be Art Deco Festivals on the ship in Long Beach, and hopefully they’ll make a comeback, since many modern people did enjoy wearing clothing of the 20s and 30s to the events (including me!)

I’ve read the Court would go on process, staying at different noble estates for days, or weeks. This meant that the noble’s estate & purse, not the King or Queen’s, would be providing for the Court. It was an honor, also a way for the King/Queen to inspect their lands, and spread the cost of the Court around. And in the case of a nobleman who had gained the King’s/Queen’s displeasure, or gotten too powerful, the stay would be extended to drain their estate, drawing the stores down. An expensive lesson if their ruler stayed long enough. All those people had to be fed and provided for.
