    I think it would be really cool to optimize the super/ turbo combo. Like does the turbo blowing into the supercharger decrease the charge temp of the supercharger, making it more efficient? I bet others would be interested as well.

    • @richardholdener1727
      @richardholdener1727  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      it makes the blower more efficient-but dramatically raises (compounds) the boost (which raises the air temp)

      The supercharger becomes a restriction when the turbo really gets going. Ideally you want the supercharger to cover low rpm before the turbo spools, then you want to bypass the supercharger and use the turbo. If you could disengage the supercharger all together too that would remove it’s parasitic loss as well.

      Keep in mind: M90 just was not designed to make that much power. It can, but not efficiently. Any blower or turbo will look bad when you use it outside of it's efficiency range. That turbo is more comparable to a supercharger about 2x the size of the M90.

    I would love to see what an intercooled 1.9L TVS supercharger would do on this 3800 V6. Also its best to have the supercharger blow into the turbo inlet in a compound setup. The blower creates way too much restriction when the turbo is blowing into it and you loose the multiplication factor of feeding a turbo a boosted charge. Maybe do a test and post the results.

      THE TURBO GIVES THE TURBO A BIG ADVANTAGE-IT'S NOT THE COOLER

    • @andyharman3022
      @andyharman3022 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@richardholdener1727 No doubt. I know that the old Eaton 5th Gens barely break 60% efficiency, and turbo's generally aren't even mapped below 65%. If somebody is matching a turbo to their engine and ends up running below 70% efficiency, they have the wrong turbo.
      But what is the relative effect of the two? Gale Banks did some good testing of that in his Killing A Duramax and Building a Monster Truck series of videos. At the ~40 psi boost he was running, the intercooler contributed about an equal increase in density as the turbo.
      But the final intake temperature of 131F with the intercooled Eaton supercharger is pretty hot for an intake manifold temperature. Taking another 45F out of the intake air would give a worthwhile gain.
