Peavey Vypyr X2 and X3 (Quick Comparison)

  • Here's a quick comparison of the Peavey Vypyr X2 and the Vypyr X3. though they come from the same line, they are different animals. After watching the video, I think the X3 may have hit the mic on the camera a little too hard. It sounds muted, but it's the mic auto leveling against the signal. Really dig both amps, though!
    Enjoy

I'm tossing up between a X2 or X3 and now hearing it, the X3 is dramatic improvement..I would have loved to hear you use the power sponge attenuation dial on this amp, as well as run an acoustic through it.

    I got the X3, and peavey did a great job with this. The build quality is solid, pots are super smooth, the sound is greater, British amp does stellar acdc , best 5150 modelling, xxx sounds exactly like xxx. peavey model their own Amps awesomely. app works well, loud as hell, Bluetooth works only when Jack is plugged into the app, but music sounds great..again is loud as PA system.You need a pin in the manual 7878 to connect to the amp. Can't wait to break the speaker in more. App works flawlessly even if is looks a little primative, it controls the amp perfectly without having to bend down to change it. Love it. Black plate is a finger print magnet, but who cares. No manual, only online.

    X3 took me a couple days to get hang of using the settings. I read no instructions and the digital read out and changing presents, effects, etc. was a bit confusing and was really pissing me off until I understood it. So, anyone looking to buy one maybe consider learning about settings on X3 so you won't be annoyed day1 trying to figure out how to find tone you're looking for!
    As a player who's a intermediate player, I just bought the X3. I wanted something nicer than starter gear. Reason I bought x3? the metal/lead gain is good in terms of its direct competition. I wanted a nice cabinet, nice head, and nice pedal, and I knew what I wanted but those items combined put me over my price point. I felt cheap $200 amp and $200 cabinet would have been a waste of money personally this X3 sounded better than cabinet and $200 amp I was looking at plus this combo amp feel will survive me a long time, atleast for practicing, I bought the $400 12" model X3, and it does what I need it to do for now.

      It still delivers the goods with way less gain for heavy stuff. I have the 120 tube version and I run my master knob at four. Then just back way off of that tremendous amount of gain that's on tap. Sounds cool at low volume but doesn't work well with a band at loud volume and adds all that noise you don't like. I also have a 6505 and it's known for being noisy, but with the gain at noon or even less, combined with a tube screamer it slays. Super heavy . Matter of fact I don't even use my noise suppressor any longer.

    Hi, can you compare x2 with vypyr x1?

  • @gibzen9617
    @gibzen9617 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Were they each on the exact same amp/ effect setting (with regard to the wattage and cab differences of course) ?? To me, the X2 sounds way more alive, while the X3 has a neutered sterility sound. For example; the X2 sounds like the treble was at like an 8 out of 10, and mid at about 5.5 out of 10 -------while the X3 sounded like treble was at a 4 out of 10, and mid about 7 out of 10. Not that higher treble equates to more liveliness, or better sound, just happens to seem the case here for my ears. I want to like the X3 more, but the X2 sounds like a beast in a box, while the X3 sounds more like a dog in a box. The only 2 immediate complaints that come to mind for both, are 1) Not having a loop function directly from the amp, but instead must use their proprietary pedal in order to access the feature-- It's 2022, seriously how hard was it to implement this simple function without needing pedal? Major thumbs down to them for that. Should be a simple start/ stop button to loop, with maybe a little metronome count beforehand. And 2) the X3 while although having a sleeker LCD screen (albeit super basic looking and function wise for todays technology,) I find it quite annoying to navigate through the amp features VIA the LCD screen and buttons to show/ select what you want. In comparison, with the X2, you can simply twist the knob to exactly where you want to be, as it is visually written around the control interface. Of course this can be negated on both amps if you save your own presets-- but what if you don't want to create and save multiple sound configurations.. The X2 just seems more fluid, and at the twist of a knob, you can darn near instantly have whatever sound it is you're looking for. The X3 however, I don't like having to press multiple buttons multiple times to get to where I want to go.. basically the X2 is faster in terms of seeking out your tones. I'm 99 percent certain I like the X2 much more now for these reasons, and the environment I'll be playing in. However for anything live/ jam session type environments, or playing with a live drummer-- I would choose the X3 over the X2 simply and only for more power/ loudness. But thanks for the vid!!

    If it's not too much of a hassle, can you tell me the exact high gain settings you have on the X2 for this video I love the high gain sound. The X2 seems louder and more upfront. When you switch between the X2 and X3 ,it sounds like the X3 loses power over the X2. The X3 has a more closed sound. Maybe cabinet design/size

      Both amps were just fired up and put on the red channel 6505 model. I didn't play with the eq settings at all. They were just what was preset by Peavey.

      @@benchristopher76 Hey Ben, quick question, does the X3 sounds really high in the lower levels of volume? The main reason why I'm getting the X2 is because Its mainly going to be a practice amp. But, it mostly for metal and the midrange response from the X3 sounds amazing at least on the video. Do you think is worth it?

    Until Peavey get's their head out of their butt, and releases a 100-watt Vypyr HEAD..... Katana head is the winner. Same thing with Catalyst. No HEAD option. Most guitar players have cabs. We don't need another "combo amp".

      @benchristopher76  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both Line 6 and Peavey offered tube powered heads with their preamps years ago. Neither caught on at the time and were discontinued. Perhaps it would benefit both companies to revisit those programs. I've had a Katana MkII head. I dug it.
