Once you’ve had a Border Collie in your life, no other breed comes close. They are the most incredibly loyal, smart loving companions.
They absolutely adore a ‘job’ to do and you can actually see the enjoyment in their face when they are ‘helping’ you do something.
They are the Einstein of the dog world without reproach - my Border knows all the names of her toys (and she has lots) and you only have to mention the name of one and she will go and rummage in her toy box to find it.
We play a game in the evening where she has to tidy up her toys and put them away by name and she loves it!
I work from home so can give her my 24/7 attention. I go nowhere where she doesn’t come with me or jump in the car and she comes along for the ride. :)
Yes.....she even follows me to the loo.🤦🏻♂️
I just got a whippet about four months ago and already want another dog. Of course I won’t get one for years but I’m already thinking on which dog to get.
I was set on Doberman, but the border collie is growing on me. They’re insane, and I really want to do obedience which I think a bc could excel in. Your comment just grows my longing for one😌

That sounds very inspiring! But this video made me a little bit more cautious. I live in a city and I've never owned a border collie before. I do work from home and I do walk for about 3 hours a day, but is that enough? If needed to I could transform a part of those hours into pure playing-time with the dog. I don't wan't to have an understimulated dog,. Is 3 hours per day enough?
@@coolbeans8682 it depends on the dog, if you buy from a reputable breeder they will pair you with a puppy that is best for you, you can tell them what you’re looking for. I think 3 hours plus mental excercise is plenty. I’d also suggest doing some sort of sport with your dog if you can!

not really i have one and he gets tired after 30 min i run around the house play with him like 2 times a day thats it...he gets tired and he rests...other dogs might be different idk and hes 9 months

I actually had a lazy one. She was energetic and scatty up to about 4 years old and then she quietened right down, didn't even want to go out when it was cold. She wasn't ill either and lived to 14.
Mine is collie basenji mix she is lazy most days and energetic in the mornings but when her sister visits she’ll stay up the entire time fighting her sleep😂
My 1 year BC pup is suuuuper lazy. Haha. We try to go for 2 hour long walks and play sessions in the park, however where we live it rains a lot and we can’t go out everyday.
We handle by teaching new tricks and practicing old ones, giving him a jobs like, for instance, bringing all the toys to one place Or play hide and seek with him.
After that he sleeps for like 8 hours straight haha
That was my first border collie, Molly, and a bit of my current baby, Jax. Molly would gently growl at me when I’d take her outside to potty, and my Jax hates going outside in the rain. I needed to get him rain gear, and we live in the Pacific Northwest. 😭
They’re incredibly adaptable. I loved BCs after growing up in a rural area and knowing people with them but thought I couldn’t cope with the energy. Then I kept meeting collie owners in the park with well-trained and very chilled collies.
Mine gets at three basic walks a day with extra adventures as often as possible. That’s more than enough.
I waited 30 years for a border collie. I was always afraid because I watched videos like this. I took in a rescue and she's been perfect for the last 4 years. I don't do anything special with her except include her in my daily life.
They are awsome dogs with the right people. Probably works well since you most likely are not a pink fluffy instagrammer🤣

We just got a border collie and I was hesitant for that very reason. My best friend has always had border collies and she said people make it sound much more difficult than it actually is. If they are properly exercised and involved in your life, they will be happy. Simple as that.

Not a dog for lazy people, not a dog for selfish people. They are special dogs that should not go to waste. If have what it takes they are the best friend you will have.

@@stevielee83 well only if you are sure that you can give the dog enough exercise, at least an hour at a time. Two or three times a day .And also mental stimulation is a must for collies. Or perhaps get another less active breed 😊👍
@@mycolliesandme268 Thanks for your reply🙂. I can give him '2 hours exercise' each day, = 1 hour at an of leash dog park and 1 hour walking on a lead. But I'm not sure if he would be able to last 8 hours a day 'every day' in the car? Maybe a BC cross English Staffy would make it easier? Thoughts?

My best friend gave the puppy to my wife without asking me, so instead of reject the surprise, I took care of the dog. It's my first time with this breed and also my first time with dogs. Through 2 years now, I've learned a lot, and change my lifestyle. Sometimes there's ups and downs but I cannot imagine a life without my girl.

Good for you, you will find that if you just let your bc be a part of your life, they are extremely intelligent and can be very well behaved. I think people don't realize how smart they are. Frequently, they bark for specific reasons, and if you just attend to their needs, they can be very quiet and well behaved. We have one just a bit over a year old and she literally communicates with us with a variety of "voices".
Got a border collie 2 years ago, almost want to buy land, and sheep just for our dog to herd 😂. She currently loves herding our back yard chickens 😂
They really need to be able to run, not just be walked. Good for you to at least have a yard for her to run. I live on a ranch and my border collie not only runs all over the ranch, she smells rattlesnakes from 40 feet away and will bark at them. We have several nicknames for Sadie: Rumba Sadie because she will clean up the floor after little kids spill, warrior Sadie because she barks at Coyotes and drives them away, and savior Sadie because she prevents us from getting bit by rattlesnakes.

Currently dealing with a 9 month Border Collie whose family NEVER walks their dog. Up until 2 weeks ago, the dog was not even allowed in the back yard. The dog herds the entire family. Tried to herd cars. I have been working with them for 5 weeks now and zero progress has been made. I will be telling the family to rehome the poor dog today.

Well it sounds like they got a pandemic dog, rehoming the dog should be a last resort as it is mentally scarring to the dog! If they are unwilling to take the dog out then yeah that's the best advice. But if you can convince them it's not as much work as they think it is, then they could change. That dog just sounds like it needs to exercise it's mind, teaching it fetch would be the first priority! Once that is nailed down I guarantee you'll see a more settled dog.
You can tell them for me that it is CRUELTY to have a Border Collie where it cannot roam free. Even a five mile walk would not be enough for these guys!!
@@whoblitzell so pretty much neglect? Doesn't go for walks....is made to stay in 1 room/section of the house. Dog makes a noise you muzzle it or throw a shock collar on it. Someone should report you to the ASPCA! I WOULD IF YOU WERE MY NEIGHBOR! Get the dog a decent home where it can run, roam, have freedom and be taken on walks...someone willing to dedicate the time to it and train it properly because clearly you lack that drive. Doesn't seem like a breed that's fit for your personality. You should really be ashamed of yourself....especially seeing as how you sound so proud about the way you treat that poor dog. Shame on you!

Dogs are generally smart, but Border Collies are even more smart. If you get a Border Collie, German Shepard, Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever, Husky, or any other dog together, they will form a dog mischief crew.

My BC is an excellent assistant in rounding up our free range chickens in the afternoon, she just watches me and we put them back into the coop together. She is rewarded with an egg from the nest and she waits patiently at her spot for her treat.
I love that my border collie natural herds, runs circles around all the family kids (4-6), at home or at the camp ground, keeps them together and knows where all of them are all the time. doesnt nip, but chews a tennis ball the entier time lol. Amazingly helpful
Me and my Border Collie took a lot of bumps at the start .. I was a college student in an apartment. And man she chewed the walls as a pup .. started going on runs ..fetching for 2 hours a day ..taking her to a family ranch. Once I implemented that she started to mellow out and was perfect. Incredibly smart dog and I'm glad I got her it was rough at first and took a lot of work but it was worth it! It took her like a day to learn how to go to the bathroom outside super easy barley an inconvenience!
Edit: found her in a box outside and once I let her in couldn't give her to a shelter
I have four Border Collies, they get a good long walk in the morning off lead where they can run and play. The rest of the day, they are happy to lay around and just be with us. We don’t have any behavioural problems with them and they are happy to chill xx

Mine was exceptionally smart - showed him 3 times and he knew. He did herd the other animals but it wasn’t a problem. Most loyal dog I’ve ever had. Never had a dog that smart, loyal, attentive, loving before.
border collies are machines, woke up at 6:00am one day and saw my pair of collies full out playing and they have farm work to do everyday!

We're on our 2nd family Collie, lost our Glen 4 years ago at 10 to cancer 😭 Both our lads were from working farm parents. They most definitely are constantly on the go & need to be exercised constantly, which is good for my family's fitness, so no complaints there, our Brodie at 4 years old is an awesome family pet, you'll never have such a loving 4 legged friend!!
My border collie Winston developed a cyst by his neck that was filled with fluid then he was diagnosed with colon cancer (Adenocarcinoma) and by the time he couldn’t poop I opted for chemo which shrunk the tumor so he could poop but it kept growing so I opted for a second round and he died after the second round. I never want to get another fog after seeing my boy die I had never seen a fog die I thought he was having side effects of chemo and I feel like I didn’t properly say goodbye.
@@lubsit I watched mine go downhill at 16 with failing kidneys. I gave him subcutaneous saline that would take about half an hour - quietly sitting with him, watching a spider walk across the floor - watching the fluid drip into the drip chamber. I learned a lot from the little guy and thank God that we had him. I can't stand to see his son, 13, mope around.... I can't go chasing rabbits with him like his daddy did. How I wish I could get another dog.

As someone who has raised a Border Collie pup and had other dogs, the exercise thing is blown way out of proportion. My dog is incredibly happy, we have plenty of exercise but not to the level some people imply the average border needs. (She is also at the perfect weight and is very strong and active) I also see plenty of eldely Border Collie owners who do not go running their dog on a field daily.
My dog is perfectly happy to play fetch once or twice a day and the rest just be normal walks. Mental stimulation is far more important. You have to help craft their confidence and teach them how to chill out. Tons of positive reinforcement and my border is the most chilled, calm, quiet dog on the entire street (of which there are 4 border collies in the vicinity). She is perfectly content to spend most of the day sleeping on the sofa, I can go out and not worry about anything being touched, she's absolutely sound, all down to constant positive reinforcement and training. The destruction etc people talk so much about can be completely eliminated just by building a relationship with the dog.
The main point I think you and many other owners are blowing out of proportion is that really, Borders do not need much more work than any other dog like a Lab. It's all about the owner really, if your dog is nervous, destructive and badly behaved; you're doing something wrong. I think half the bad rep Borders get is not fair and really individual personality differences between dogs have way more impact vs standard breed behaviours.
I'd also add, you do not need to be some really active person to get a Border Collie. Complete nonsense. The farmers are commonly fat and/or old, they're not any marathon runners! It requires no fitness to throw a ball. Make the dog work for you (teaching to come around etc.), the hardest part is being consistent with your training and rewards.
"As much activity, as you can think of, and then add some more." So true. I'm raising my second border collie mix. The exercise requirements (physical and mental) is off the charts. It's a necessary requirement to meet, though. IF you can, you're going to have an amazing companion.

I myself do not own a border collie, but I met someone who does and the dog was amazing, looked very protective and aware of everything yet friendly
I’ve have the pleasure to have 3 German shepherds, beagle/doxel mix and a short hair border collie and the border collie was probably my favorite. She always hung around me, very loyal, never got in trouble, and was very cute! I miss her and when I move out I want to have 3 or 4!!
About number one! I am normally not an active person at all, which I am not happy about. I got a border collie thinking she would motivate me to be more active. I love her and I love spending time with her and I am MUCH MORE active now. I guess it's a win-win situation.
Before getting my BC, I felt like it might be a bad choice as I live in the suburbs and am a full-time student. However, it is very possible to integrate a border collie’s lifestyle in with yours if you put in the work. With scheduled walks, play time, puzzle toys and training every day to compensate for the lack of a job. Which obviously this is no small challenge as it will be a big part of your life spent on your dog compared to let’s say a shih-tsu but they are 100% worth it if you put in the work. I felt the need to clarify this as before getting my own I felt like I was going to be the only owner that doesn’t live on a farm and have endless space.

I would recommend two dogs as they will keep each other busy when you are busy!

I have a Borgi (pembroke welsh and border collie mix). He is 7 months old and I’ve been able to train him pretty well. About 3 walks per day along with 4 vigorous play sessions keeps him stable. Definitely a strong willed dog but after a few months of training, he looks up to me.
I have a short haired border collie runt, she is so timid and isn’t very energetic , she gets tired pretty quickly and she is an amazing companion , she is now registered as an emotion support animal and she loves her job
I have a border collie pup... I've lived with many dogs during my life and seen a number of puppies grow old. I didn't know about the border collies and my wife brought a puppy home in February. We love him but his energy level is insane! Way more than any bread I have ever experienced. I have to run him for at least an hour every day. He's awesome but for sure more work than most breads
Mine is a border collie mix. He is the best dog I’ve ever had and I’ve had a lot. They are such good family dogs. Mine likes other dogs but he is kinda rough, and they don’t know that’s how he plays. They are very active dogs, so keep them going. Super smart dogs
I am so grateful I found your channel. I drove about 4 hours to rescue a 3 yr old "weenier dog" mix. When we arrived he is most certainly a border collie. Maybe he has a little dachshund in him but not much. He looks full border collie, and his vet records show he's only 1.5 yrs old. I couldn't leave him in the situation he was in so I brought him home and was NOT prepared. He is so different from my laid back beagle mixes. I am actively learning how to train him. I had a short hair border collie for 10 years and she was amazing. She was very quiet, sleepy and when we took her out she was the life of the party. I miss her and I definitely want another one

When we went to the adoption shelter, my border collie was incredible shy and looked scared but I’m telling you once she settled in to her new life she became the life of the party. It was a beautiful thing to witness. I wouldn’t worry about that at all!

My border collie has given herself the job of protecting my 2 year old. awesome at home, horrid at walks haha. Love the border collie stair though.

My ex had a border collie named river she used to jump in my arms everytime id walk in the door i miss that dog :/
The best dog I ever took home. I got her at 5months old and she chose me, shes sweet and not destructive at all besides with her own toys.. very energetic, playful and talkative
I have a BC/Blue heeler mix, and he’s the best. When he was a few months old, he had heeler instincts and would follow me around with his nose pressed to my calf and nipping me. Then, at one year, he switched to BC herding. He started getting in front of me to stop me. Now he runs in front of me, jumps like a marlin on a fishing line, and snaps in the air. He’s clinically insane, but I love him.
It’s no joke about their energy though.I gave up all pretense of leash walking since his leash aggression was so bad (he wants to play with and chase everything so he’d go crazy at the sight of anything that moves). Now I take him into the country where he can run off leash. That and doggy daycare has done wonders.
Our family has two Border Collies. Previously three before one passed. We have two young ones who keep each other entertained. Throw a ball or frisby for a bit almost every day. But nothing like the other comments. Maybe 10 mins here and there. They find their own tasks. We live on a lake and one of the dogs tries to "fish". Made his own job that lasts for hours. Also they like hunting for chipmunks. Tear outta the house like crazy running their route.. The most loving dogs I have ever had or known. Don't let the video or some comments fool you. Set up for success for having two dogs that can entertain themselves. They do it for hours and hours, then cuddle in... Their life expectancy is longer than more medium to large dogs too.
Help I got a Border Collie mix 7 weeks old puppy free from someone and he won’t stop biting or barking. He is definitely a Border Collie mix the vet did a DNA test on him. He stays inside mostly and full of energy. Any suggestions

This is first class advice! My gorgeous border collie has just turned eight and is starting to slow down just a bit - meaning she occasionally snoozes for two minutes if I have a coffee with a friend.
But she can still run with me while I cycle along the Thames from Hampton Court to Battersea (she ends up running with the bike about 15 miles and we walk about 8 miles). Lots of water and biscuit breaks of course - and that's just for me...She loves running with the bike so much I can't even say the word but have to spell out B-I-K-E if we're not actually going that moment. But if she can do that at eight years old, don't even think about a collie unless you can give it absolutely loads of outdoor stimulation and also your company - not a breed to leave at home while you go off to work for hours
Just for the record, I'm 65, going on 66, so think what she's doing for me in terms of fitness and stimulation, too...

Have a 14 month old border collie from working stock both parents were workers and believe me energy levels are through the roof 10 miles a day walks up at 6am an enforced 1 hour rest midday then full speed again till 7 personally wouldn’t want her any other way but people do really need to be prepared

Not all border collies require much grooming, I brush my border collie like once a month and it's fine because she's got mid long/short hair

I adopted a border collie from a girl that ended up “watching” him for a month. A month turned into a year. He worked all day and he was at home 8-10 hours a day. She told me she was looking for a better fit for him and that’s where I came in. I work from home and spend all my time with him. He’s really an easy dog. Let’s me sleep in. Doesn’t bark or whine. And is the best snuggler. I couldn’t imagine having a better companion or dog. I did a week trial and on night one he peed in my bed. I also had allergies and my asthma came back from recently going away after 30 years of crap. But!.. I started taking Claritin and advair. feels like I don’t have any symptoms at all. Thank god. I was borderline needing emergent care. Thought I’d have to give him up. So glad I didn’t act too quickly. I gave it one more day and that day I started the meds. He’s worth the sacrifice I have to make!
We shared our life with one of these four legged Einsteins for 14 years. Pepper was a real character. We live in the suburbs and worked hard to find a way she could work out her herding instinct. Between herding ducks and Canadian Geese in a park, to herding fallen leaves blowing in the wind, it really wasn’t that hard.
On a road trip with us. Pepper enjoyed the reststops for more than the obvious reasons. A tour bus pulled in with Japanese tourists. Pepper sensed they couldn’t read the signs, so she herded them to the restrooms. She wasn’t off lead, so she dragged me along at the end of an 8’ lead. For this she was petted, praised and photographed by the tourists. It was wonderful.
To own a Border Collie you must be fit. At age 70 my BC ownership days are over!
All the more reason to get one. I'm 80 and so want another one to keep my 13 year-old moving. We live in the country so there are plenty of things to chase and herd.

Do you think a BC could travel in my car with me 8 hours a day, in the front seat everyday, as my work buddy, stopping 2 times a day at a park for lunch and a walk on lead. Would that be sufficient? I love my border collie Finn. I adopted him from the local pound. He was around 7 months and in the next few months I discovered that he had epilepsy. He has violent and intense seizures that are very scary for both of us. I love him so and no matter the expense right now I am making sure I'm working with the vet to get things right for him. I mentioned all of this because border Collies are one of the breeds that have a tendency towards epilepsy. It's one more thing to consider when you adopt them. Sorry this was so long but I thought I should share. Also my lovely Finnegan I love you forever and will take care of you the best that I can.
We live on a farm and need a dog to keep coyotes away and herd our animals, would border collies be suitable? We have 77 acres of land, so lots of space for activity
We also go on daily bike rides and runs where we would love dogs to come with us
My border collie that I had to put down a couple days ago from heart failure just wanted to go for walks and wanted pats the most and was very social.

We have been incredibly lucky with our BC, we take him out twice a day to throw a ball and at weekends the walks are longer but he's not destructive at all. He will quietly wait for us to come home and hasn't chewed a thing. He's happy for a shorter walk but can go for miles and just chills out at home. His older brother is a couch potato greyhound so I think this had been a major influence. He's incredibly human friendly and generally ignores dogs, recall is amazing but lead walking needs work but luckily we live near plenty of open spaces to let him run free
Ours is the same way... If we leave him in when were gone during the day hes fine...

Aah separation anxiety with my dog is terrible terrible. If I go to the restroom he barks until I get there...
Excellent précis. We’ve had four in our lives and about to adopt another Rescue. Cannot live without them and now that we’re retired can once again give it the attention it needs and deserves. I would say one thing from the videos .. please don’t throw sticks for them. Our boy had to be taken to the vet twice .. yes we didn’t learn! .. The sticks went down his throat and he once had to be sedated for stitches. The vet said it was a very regular occurrence. I know they will pick them up on walks, but discourage them .. better to play with frisbees and balls.
Mine is 16 1/2 years of first rate man's best friend. He is at that point where he clearly demonstrates how much he needs me. I am not looking forward to the end of our kinship alas I know it is coming.
While i, more or less, can agree on 'Why not to' i like to disagree to #1 reason; Things go wrong with the BC because it often gets over stmulated! Sure this breeds needs to be mentally stimulated every day for this is a extremely smart breed but like I said before, also a breed which easily gets over stimulated resulting in anxious to agressive behaviors. The BC does not have an 'off switch' it will continue to work for you even untill he would 'drop dead'. You actually need to teach the dog it needs rest!
A healthy balance between a 'task and rest' is utterly important for this breed.Walking 6 miles every day day and doing dog classes alomost everday is defitely not something to keep him healthy but will stress this breed out !
My BCs would chase chase chase through the woods and over the fields and NEVER got anxious or aggressive. They knew how to rest when they needed to.

I own a high prey drive Belgian Malinois and I’m getting a Border Collis puppy next year!! I’m so ready to do a lot of physical activities 😅
I met a few border collies to see if I could handle one and nononononon absolutely not. They require so much activity (mental and physical) and, if you cannot provide them enough of it, they'll bark at you and won't stop.
Dont get me wrong, I love this breed but I can't handle one.

Yeah I just got my border collie for Christmas and soon as you sit down they will make you hop back up. And once my dog herd up my whole AFL club while playing and that was pretty funny 😄. I recommend a dog if you want to get fit and active and will always be there for it.
I miss my Welsh Sheepdog so much. Been many years now but my heart aches for my dogs when I think of them. Too old and mobility problems, and can not easily longer afford vet bills now. My Sheba could walk and run and play all day with rests, water and a bit to eat. She never nipped but was protective when appropriate. I miss my Irish Red Setter, my Staff x Boxer and one of my father's cats in particular, and a budgie, and want to see them first when I cross over. I so look forward to being with them again and especially my Sheba, my sheepdog, the most energetic. She lived to 14.
If you have a dog of any type, make them a family member not only a pet. They was repay you with so much love, loyalty and fun.
I’ve had a border collie for 15 years before he passed away. I wouldn’t want any other breed.
Would a border collie be happy at my 10 acre farm? 2 acres surrounded by 5 foot no climb fence. Free range chickens. Six (so far) goats usually in pens. A Great Pyrenees. We are outside caring for the animals and property at least three hours a day. Many more sometimes.

With the herding whats the best way to stop it putting itself in danger or putting the children at harm? I'm guessing lots of exercise and activity but is there anything else
I have got to border collies and they get all their fun and exercise from 2 walks a day and the fact they live with ferrets, one is 12 and the other one is 20 years old. They definitely are kept on there toes by the ferrets and to watch them all is amazing. Border collies are excellent dogs to keep and your never bored with them around. One of them tries to herd people and dogs on the beach but we avoid this behaviour by bringing the ferrets along. Their coats can be a complete nightmare and they shed so much hair and can get really matted if left but it’s all a part of living with them and loving them. You have to be the right person for a border collie and you can’t be lazy.

My BC has a early morning adventure for up to 2 hours full of fun n games then a evening run for around 40 mins I mix this up in the week with Agility and hooper's games..I'm a high energy person we were ment for each other..we go climbing n hiking in Scotland a few times a year weekends at the lakes he has the best times..he also has his down times relax time's it all works well for me n my boy..
My hobby is disc golf when I'm not working and my border collie loves it! He has his disc's and he can grab certain ones... just an amazing dog.

I have a bordercollie/Rottweiler mix and she is the sweetest most loyal thing. She definitely does have high energy levels but she also likes to be lazy at times. She is so freaking smart she was potty trained in two weeks time and learned all the basic commands between 8 and 16 weeks.
I changed my lifestyle for my adopted border collie. I'm still a bit of a softie, but am trying to do better for Jaxon, who luckily has never nipped my daughter or her friends. He is deaf btw.
I saw a beagle-border collie mix at my local shelter. I've been very familiar with beagles (I've had a few and love them) and haven't had any border collies so I am doing research before saying I want to adopt. After watching this though, I don't think it would be a good fit, so this video was great for me. Thanks.
Does any one have a BC that's an incessant barker? We bought our collie as a puppy and has always been a barker.....we live in the country, no neighbors very little traffic......he'll be inside and set & bark at the door. He's driving me crazy.....he's 1 yr. old and no let up on barking.
I agree with comments below that once you have had a border collie, you probably won't want any other breed of dog. They are UNBELIEVABLY intelligent and well behaved. We do spend a lot of time with her and we live on a ranch, she is still a puppy, but she pretty much trained herself to understand everything we say. This video is not entirely accurate. They are typically very focused on pleasing people and NOT "head strong", unless you are clueless to their needs. If you respond to them, they will respond to you in a way that no other dog breed is capable of. That is not hyperbole, studies show that they learn ten times faster than the second most intelligent breed, poodles.. In fact, before we got her, we were told that you have to go a bit easy on Border Collies because they are extremely sensitive to people and want to please. We have been VERY sparing on punishment and very heavy on praise, and she learned so quickly, it is unbelievable. She was also trained on snake avoidance and she is now integral to our safety in that she can smell a rattlesnake from 40 feet away and will bark at it, and stay away from it. Border Collies are normally very quiet, and typically only bark for a reason. So, if your border collie barks, go see what they need and take care of it and you will find that they don't bark very much when their needs are met.
I completely agree with this video. This is protecting Border Collies! I have one of my own and I am currently training her to herd our livestock.

We are thinking of getting one but we only know huskies….. are they very different what energy is concerned? We used to do long walks ,bike ride and such but with a huskie you can’t do agility or let them run free… that’s why we are thinking in changing breed ( we lost ours to old age)

Mine is 13. Does sheep, geese, ducks, cows, goes to football stadiums, poses for the camera. She's even in a museum. All I can say is she is the best. But she's not a robot. Didn't train her that way. That's why I can take her anywhere!
Good info 👌I’ve had all sorts of dog breeds throughout my life however my border collie has never ending energy. He gets walked about 2hrs a day and never shows signs of being tired. He also wants to chase absolutely everything that moves e.g cars, cyclists etc. But he is also the most intelligent and loving dog breed that I have ever had and would probably never get another breed now. The pros definitely outweigh the cons but if your considering getting one be prepared to do a lot of walking.

My girl Border Collie/Blue Heeler mix will herd dogs at the dog park, which is great. She does not go for the heels but will bolt in front of them and bring them back to where they started.
The breed definitely shows in her. She will lay down when meeting other dogs head on, and if were walking next to her and other dogs show up she will do that head down sneak walk up along side us. She does need a couple hours of hard run/play a day which is no problem. Wonderful girl.
I came across your video because the headline five reasons why not to get a border collie. We got this beautiful, black and white border collie because they were offering him for free on Petfinder he was a year
old. The reason he was free was because he was returned twice to his foster home, they say the husband of the woman who was fostering him was being nasty to him because of the family dog was first. So we got him beautiful dog absolutely beautiful named him Blu beautiful, dog, smart dog, and I thought absolutely a very good dog why he would be returned twice. On the first day I noticed he would try to hurd my grandson sadly everything you're saying is me with my dog. What is sad is I have multiple sclerosis and I no longer walk. We kept it going on for 5 6 years now he seems to favor me always by my side, especially at night. He comes in from his last runs and right there sits right beside me up against my leg I'm getting ready to go to bed I do feel. I feel like I'm holding him back now but what do I do? Find him a new home or just let him stay with us? He had a sad beginning from the start he has a puppy and two other from the litter were left at the house where the people just moved away. I guess took the mother dog and left her puppies. I love this dog he is excellent smart and is protective of me and my grandson. every night before last runs he sits by the sliding door just staring at me. I noticed he does that a lot. Did I ruin this dog?

Bearded collies are similar in temperament, a little less wired tho, do some research on them..i had a bearded cross with a border ..he was the bees knees, if i had a penny fpr everytime someone said aww what a beautiful dog or wow hes gorgeous ect id be make richard branson look like a pauper. Terry died 2 yrs ago living to the massive age of 18 plus 3 days..twas all the love i gave him. Never thought id get another dog as i thought other dog could ever Compare, and i wasnt actually looking for a dog but the world put forth opportunity for me to choose from a litter of 10 working collie pups hence i know share my life with mercury.. tho generally i call him merc. Anyway i suppose where im going with all this is that i think you get the best of both dogs when you cross both bearded and borders.
Finally found my ideal dog! 4 month old puppy and my Max already knows how to get the ducks and the guinea fowl back into the coops. Now I just need to teach the guinea fowl not to fly 😂 any tips?
They are some of my favorite dogs, but I don't have a lifestyle right now that would work with a Border Collie, so I will just admire other people's dogs for now

I just got a Border Collie when he was 10 weeks old, he is now 5 months and he is wicked smart, he beat me out of $20 in a poker game, next year he will being doing our taxes. We have a large farm so he has plenty to do
