My current BC is Rusty, a Red and White 2 yo boy. He is my third BC I'm raising from a pup, 29 years now. Every day I'm out, I can meet between 10/20 people who come up to us to meet him. Truthfully, I don't recommend them to most people because of exactly what you said 'You Have to Raise them.' My last BC was Franklin, a beautiful Tri Color that i got from East Tennessee Border Collie Rescue in Knoxville, TN. After i saw his pic and saw the look in his eyes, I knew he was going to be a great one and the one for me. When I called, I said 'First off, I've had a BC and they are Awesome...I'm Amazed there's a group to rescue them as a Breed..' It got absolutely silent on the other end until finally she said '...Well to tell you the truth, they are smarter than many of their Owners...and That's where the Trouble starts...' 😂😂 Too many people have seen them in movies and commercials or meet them as they do mine and are taken by their Beauty and their Smiling Demeanor. So thanks for Strongly explaining the how much work they are. Especially if they won't be Working Dogs. All 3 of mine grew up in my recording studio here in Nashville TN, but I still RUN them At Least 2/3 hrs a day and they get to hang out with lots of people most days. Lots of real nice dogs around, but I can't imagine having any other Breed in my life. 😁👍

But the walk IS the exercise… so how do you train to walk to heal when they’re hyperactive DURING the exercise…

Thank you for posting the deadly foods to a Border Collie. I have a hard fast rule in my house that has saved my dogs and lengthened their life...."NO HUMAN FOOD!" No feeding dogs from the dinner table. If I happen to have pure meat with no seasoning, such as beef, chicken or turkey well cooked, I place it in their bowls with their kibble. Hope you find this a good rule.

I have had Border Collies since 2005. I love the breed. My experience, if I raise the BC since it was a pup, once the dog reaches a mature age of 3 or older, I can leave them home alone without them eating the sofa. My first BC wasn't crate trained and I ended up with some furniture chewed up. So, I taught her to chew bones and not furniture. Ha ha.

Hey guys. I am looking to get a gluten detection dog. I have had 5 shepherds but feel they are too big to bring around for service work. What should I do if my BC is resourcing guarding ME!? It’s a people coming to the door issue, not when I’m not there only when I am home.

My dog when left alone, he just chill on the couch, took the swing cushion to the Sunny area. Sit on the patio chair. Napping most of the day. Moving everything from the cradle out.

This dude's videos are all like this...long form ads for his dog training business and/or his expensive online dog training courses. Half of it is just him telling you how good he is at training dogs not to pull and how fast he can get it done. Lol, he's like the Donald Trump of dog trainers 😂

I have a dumb question. If the dog is in training mode on a walk, how do they pee and poop? Or do you not have them in heel during a portion of the walk so they can pee and poop?

Very useful video. This is so difficult when other family members do not adhere to the same approach to training. So frustrating!

Our Collie gets tons of stimulation long walks every day chasing a ball doing tricks at home and she still tries to chew the house to bits when we are there because she wants to play all the time.

Mine is a rescue and naturally became the self-appointed guardian of the house. I’m not a farmer & he didn’t have another choice… no one claimed him and I wasn’t gonna see him put down for no good reason. Sometimes ideal isn’t possible, but we make the best… and he is my best friend, adapted fine to being inside most of the time. Of course I walk him as much as I can, sometimes 4 or 5 times a day. They adapt TO YOU, as well… and you find a way to live together. Wouldn’t trade him for anything.

i have had to teach my dog to lick because she prefers to nip and mouth us. my dog is 2.5, border point, she jumps up to my husband when he’s in his chair, i was the one trying to make her stop, trying to prevent it, trying to predict it, she’s a fantastic dog except for this. now she won’t lay down voluntarily, she will go into lie down on command, but only to behave and be submissive she will expose her belly, but if i get my hands by her belly she shows warning signs of biting…yet she will let my husband rub her belly….so because i was the enforcer i really can’t cuddle or hug my dog. i’m trying to desensitize her by slowly getting closer, i know this is going to take a long time…for too long i didn’t even try. i get really down and have to stay away ffom her until i’m over it, otherwise it would be confusing to her why i’ve pulled back so much. i’m sad that this is the relationship i have with her. she’s really well trained, follows me around, but i can’t cuddle her. suggestions?

My BC was a ferocious guard dog! When the criminal hordes invaded my home, my boi was on the case! He dropped a rubber ball at their feet, and gave them THE LOOK! Actually, "they" were not criminal or a crowd, but the electrician. yes, the visitor, ANY visitor , had to play "the BC play with me and the ball tax". I suppose my lad took his cue from me. I wasn't alarmed by the person at the door, so he wasn't either. He didn't bark much, but when he did, he knew there was trouble at the door. Individuals vary and BC's are a smart breed, but Sam was really clever. My brain hurt dreaming up new puzzles for him to solve. I would think of a new one sometimes and he would just look and me, with an expression: "Seriously Dad, you think that is difficult?" Also, BC's are fascists. If you want a personal fitness trainer, there is nothing better than a BC. No Sunday lie-ins ---ever again!!! Short of global thermonuclear war, or the worst cyclone in the world, the lead will be put into you hand, and a soggy rubber ball dropped onto your lap. Resistance is futile. Also, accept the new reality. You are sheep. On family walks you will be herded into a tight, neat mob. As for being a good guard dog? Well, I don't know, he was a rescue dog, and had been abused, so he was a little TOO placid and easy-going. He was obedient in things that really mattered, and otherwise, a harmless but very cheeky boy when he got settled in.
