I lived in Seoul in the 1990’s. A Korean business man asked me what area of business should Korea tackle next. His wife had a degree in chemistry. I told him he and his wife should pursue the beauty industry. My thoughts were based on how hungry the Korean ladies were for cosmetics and how they cared for their beautiful skin. He scoffed at my idea. I wonder what he thinks now?

I started off skincare 2 years ago. Started off with American/western products up until it burned my skin and made it more sensitive. Even when I followed the directions on how to not over exfoliate. I was using about 5 products, cleanse, tone/exfoliate, serum, moisturizer and spf. All expensive, spent around $250 on American skincare. Anyways, I decided to switch to Korean skincare and my skin has been so hydrated and glass like quicker than the American skincare products did for me. I use about 9 k beauty products, cleanse, tone, 3 essence, 2 serums, and a moisturizer, and of course sunscreen. I’m never going back to American/western skincare. It’s too harsh. Oh and I bought about 13 Korean skincare products for less than $150 from stylevana. They work better for a fragment of Western Price. PS: the only non Korean product I use is spf, which is French, La Roche Posay

In Germany we have since Decades excellent Korean-Labor-Experts and Scientists which are working in Berlin and other Cities and with smaller Companies, and they are famous under good informed Consuments.
But they are also sometimes expensive.
And so I do samesame as you did: STYLEVANA , and YESSTYLE are very good Companies which sell correct Products. I Love it - and this only because after I could not go/fly two Times a Year to Asia/ Sri Lanka and Thailand I had to find them - because I need my fine and "cheap" Lotions, Serums and Creams.. and especially my perfect SPF with 50 + ...it is so gorgeous 👏👏👏🥰❣️✌🏽

Excellently presented information. I didn't know anything about Korean beauty products until a few months ago. I am 61 years old and am blessed that people are asking if I have had any work done on my face because my skin looks great. I'm simply using inexpensive Korean skincare and do dermastamping. I see men and women my age that are making mistakes with overdoing fillers. They don't look younger just noticeable because their faces are not proportionate and exaggeration isn't youthful. They clearly haven't watched your videos. Fake isn't attractive and looks unnatural. I make my own fermented rice water and watch
Gua Sha videos. It's that simple and people ask me why my skin looks more like I'm 50. It takes little money....I'm on a tight budget. But with your videos, it teaches me what the cutting edge techniques are as well as prevention. Do I plan on living forever? Heck no...but looking younger for very little money helps someone my age remain competitive in applying for jobs and helps my self esteem. Thank you kindly for giving someone with limited income, as a social service worker, a way to look as good as those with lots to spend on their appearance. I have a lot of respect for someone that brings education to non-celebrities. I've even considered going back to school to become an esthetician so I can help others feel good about themselves when they look in the mirror. It's not about vanity but rather feeling confident which creates a cycle of positivity because we have some control over the aging process. 19:19

A close friend of mine is Japanese. She sends me face cream and I send her Sees candy since they can't get it there. She has the skin of a literal teenager despite that she is in her late 50s. She and everyone else there consume massive amounts of green tea and eats a healthy diet high in fermented foods and oily proteins from fish. This is anecdotal but in addition to her excellent diet and skin care practices she has an interesting habit of tapping her forehead and cheeks periodically (when she thinks no one is looking - ha!) which seems to relax her facial muscles and might also stimulate the circulation of blood to those areas. In my opinion, the biggest secret they have is their diet and their commitment to protect from the sun with umbrellas because people from Korea and Japan have had beautiful skin for long long before their products became a fad but I think their products (the ones I've tried) are good too and I think they are also generally more conscious of beauty throughout their daily activities as evidenced by my friend's habit of tapping. No science whatsoever that I know of to support it but she looks so good that I've taken to tapping my face too. And supported by science I drink a minimum of two mugs of green tea every day (the secret to preventing it from tasting bitter is to use water that is not overly hot) Now if only I could cut out the sugar!! 😬

South Korean culture is very interesting. The appearance of and health of skin is paramount; it’s almost a defining character trait. I will never forget visiting in 2013. I hiked a mountain and at the top struck up a conversation with a young Korean couple. I told them that I loved Seoul and was interested in living there for some time to teach English. The girl said “ well you are very good looking so you should do well here.” I had never heard anyone say something like that… so directly connect my potential success to my appearance. I think we all understand that it matters to an extent in western culture but they make no qualms about it.

I think the reason why Koreans/Asians have better skin (besides genetics) is mainly because of diet. They don’t use too much processed oils, no preservatives, no additives on their food. If you look at what Americans eat and how bad the ingredients of our bread, pasta, veggie (pesticides), amount of sugar in everything, you would understand.
Their skincare is also just supplementary to their amazing looking skin.

The one ingredient I hadn’t considered was the Cica plant (aka tiger grass) but the company I landed on had it in many of their products. Good Morning Dr R🙌🏻
I found this interesting and I have heard so many different terms like this though the years. In my opinion and what I have seen with my industry is that Korean Beauty and glass skin is another marketing term the beauty industry throws at us to buy more products and to feel like aging is not acceptable , especially for women. NOT TRUE😉 so much if there’s terms are unattainable.
What Korean women have told me is that the term Korean Beauty is actually a way of caring for your skin that comes from their mothers. Their mothers taught their girls to stay out of the sun and to wear sunscreen and to care for their skin consistently both AM & PM and to as you said be preventative. Their mothers actually tell them not to cut into their faces or be invasive but that’s just my clients story from their mothers and grandmothers.
As for ingredients many of us have been using Natural ingredients such as gotu kola and ginger, ginseng and licorice for years. However in the US natural ingredients and EO are demonized and it’s unfortunate because they absolutely work.
This was a great subject. Blessings Dr R and everyone 🍑🙌🏻🧡Lisa

      What are you using?

    • @chazz2806
      @chazz2806 ปีที่แล้ว

@@_HFF I 'm using a recommended Korean skincare regimen with products designed to keep my skin as blemish free as possible. I triple cleanse at night: BEFOREHAND, I start by thoroughly rinsing my face with mildly hot water which is followed by one lathering with Mizon Snail Cushion cleanser, followed by 2 cleansings with CosRx Salicylic Acid Cleanser; the final lather is with a Buff Puff or similar cleansing sponge to exfoliate). Thorough rinsing follows each lathering, each time. After patting dry the final time, I follow with an application of NIACID made by SLURP Laboratories. Next, I use Mizon all purpose moisturizer under my eyes after the NIACID has absorbed.
My morning routine is a thorough rinsing followed by one lather with the CosRx cleaner, with which I also shave once I have worked up a great lather. I rinse thoroughly and dry, followed again with the application of the NIACID serum. This is what works for me. The NIACID is the product that resurfaces the skin and encourages the pores to expel debris. It evens the skin tone by breaking up hyperpigmentation, melasma and acne discolorations. The effects are cumulative and are better than the Alpha Hydroxy acid products I used previously. This is all something you can research online. You need to assess what your skincare challenges are, but the NIACID is the universal game changer for me. My skin looks the best it has ever been, rivaling the coloring and texture it had when I was in my early twenties. Of course I don't look like a twenty something person because features change and there's this thing called gravity 😂, but I don't look 66 either. Experiment with some good K Skincare, based on your individual needs. I mixed and matched three companies. Look into the products of each one, especially SLURP LABORATORIES. You can find a combination that will work for you.

I will never forget landing at Incheon Airport in Seoul, and seeing all the “young” girls inside the duty free stores. It was like a feeding frenzy, and I could not even get close to the cosmetics section. Then I boarded Korean Air to fly to Bangkok, and I thought, omg, these flight attendants are the most beautiful girls I have ever seen. Then I flew home from Singapore on Singapore Airlines and my thoughts were, nope, THESE are the most beautiful girls I have ever seen. The truth is, they all use Korean skin products, and yes, they have glass skin, which I think is very attractive. I am always flying to Europe, and especially Rome and Milan, and you just don’t see the glass skin there or here in America like in the Far East. Thanks for reminding me, Dr. Rajani. Many things that people in the West think are K beauty, are actually not, including the 10 step skin care routine (it has not originated in Korea). These being said, about the price of Korean cosmetics that you mentioned, if you are in Korea, it's very hard to resist and not spend money. There are huge discounts all year round, never seen in the West. Probably because of the competition brands want to attract costumers so they are literally fighting over discounts hahah. It was interesting listening to your opinion, thank you!

When I opened my skin care clinic north of Barrie Ontario , I had heard all about k-beauty! Thank god I did! I bought an Ultherapy machine, a Thermage machine, a mesotherapy machine, and I started using and selling a Korean product called Missha. The product I like most is their snail products. I’m a vegan, I eat very clean and I also exercise, so I already have very nice skin. But when I started using the snail serum, it brought my skin to a whole other level. I also purchased a micro needling machine, and whenever I do micro needling or meso therapy I use the snail serum while doing these procedures on my customers and on myself. I’m going to be 51 this year, and when I tell my clients how old I am, they totally don’t believe me. So much so that I have to take my identification out in order to prove my age to them. The other day I was in the grocery store and this young man asked if I wanted to have coffee with him. I told him that I was old enough to be his mother, and he got very offended and said “ look if you’re not interested, just say so! You don’t have to insult my intelligence” lol. I had to pull out my identification in order to save his feelings. Everywhere I go and everything I do I run into people who complement my glass skin. I know that you are what you eat, I stay out of the sun at all costs, and I honestly only do minimal amount of treatments. Perhaps I’m just lucky but I have honestly never received more compliments about my skin in my entire life. Listen to Dr. Rajani. He knows his stuff! I actually went to Korea twice and when I had facials in Korea the aestheticians were shocked at how bad my skin looked! That just goes to show you what their standards are really like. They really do aim for perfection. Even a beautiful beauty mark I had on my left cheek was not considered beautiful because they aim to have nothing on the skin whatsoever! I chose to keep my beauty mark however as I know it’s more of a European and North American sign of beauty. But other than that I am K beauty all the way!

Hi dr Rajani, a dedicated follower here. I wish I didn't live that far, otherwise you would see me for Plasmasculpt.
But what I wanted to ask - I saw this post on Facebook published by a professional esthetician and got all confused about retinol. Could you please comment on that? She said:
•Advise with a professional who truly understands Retinols. We study efficacy of product formulation and safely suggest nighttime regimens that won’t exhaust your skin.
•Overuse of Vitamin A / Tret creams thin the skin, cause translucency and make you INCREDIBLY sensitive to sunlight.
•also you increase an enzyme called collagenase when using straight Tret. Collagenase is like a termite to your collagen. Sophisticated formulations increase cell renewal, thicken the dermal papillae, exfoliate the surface, break apart pigmentation as well as reduce the inflammatory response most people experience when using Trets. As a professional esthetician who performs medical grade treatments such as peels, Microneedling, laser, IPL and owns a medical spa I DO NOT use tretinion daily. I use once a week as a boost to my night time repair.

Thanks for your info and excellent explanation . Your key words “ fresh ingredients “, “ natural ingredients “ and “prevention”are the reasons for the beautiful skin that many Korean women exhibit. I am
a 65 year-old Korean woman who has been living in America since 13 years old. Unfortunately , I did not follow the Korean philosophy of natural preventive skin care routine because I grew up with the we same careless lack of prevention or daily care of my skin. I am rather self conscious and embarrassed by my skins appearance when I visit Korea. Yet, I am mistaken for a much younger woman of 40-50 years of age. I have to thank the genetics of my Korean ethnicity for that fortune! I think that one of the reasons for Korean women’s famous beautiful skin is their lifestyle: healthy eating, daily exercises, and eating food made from fresh ingredients prepared daily rather than preprocessed and fast foods. And, they are very conscientious about prevention. Koreans abhor exposure to the sun. Even in the heat of the summer you will see most women covering their skin with long sleeves, large visors or hats and gloves to protect the skin from damaging UV rays. We have a lot to learn from Koreans.

Threads absolutely do work, and the products coming out of South Korea are outstanding with an affordable price tag. America has tried to Corner the market by restricting anything that really works to the med spas only .this . I just hope they don't restrict us from ordering from Korea .I could never afford the med spa prices. Using the products I get from Korea my skin has improved drastically.it is nice we all have that opportunity. Now you have inspired me to get off my butt stop watching videos and go into that bathroom to do some micro-needling and throw in a couple threads. 😁

@@loveandhappiness1111 there are many. I suggest watching Chanels JESSICA 10, AND gorgeously aging, and DIY55. These ladies are very knowledgeable about Korean skincare and products. they will give you a link. Stay away from channels that just have one or two videos .these channels are copying The Heavy Hitters and sometimes I have seen bad. advice.

I want to get into Korean skin care but I just do't know which brands to trust as I am from the UK. I am a skin care nerd and my go to is the ordinary and La Roche Posay moisturisers. I do the pimple patches, micro needle and do face masks. But I feel like I am missing out! Please can someone recommend the best Korean brands for oily, acne prone skin and also find products to stay looking youthful! I am 37 but thankfully I look younger as I was raised to care for my skin from a young age. Also I do like a bit of botox hehehe! Dr Rajani!! HELP!

I wish you will make a video about ginseng root in skin care products, drinking it in teas & its supplements for anti aging benefits. Also Siberian Ginseng is cheaper than the Korean one, are the benefits different?
    Thanks for the video 💐

I miss travelling to Korea and buying many different products for cheaper than buying them elsewhere. They give out a lot of freebies and samples too! The shops are all close to one another you are spoiled for choice on deals.

Love your videos! I'm considering BBL (Broad Band Light) to reverse some sun damage, primarily to the face. What's your take on it? How does it compare with other treatments?

Absolutely agree. I mentioned all these brands on one of my comments a little bit over year ago when you mentioned at the time that you were exploring Asia. Their skin care is so clean and gentle formulated. Unfortunately you did not even look at the comment or you have someone just answering from you. My work takes me to Asia a lot and my skin has been advised and direct by a dermatologist over there who now gives consultation on zoom. I been using the following products for over 10 years. Dr.CiLabo from Japan, I was only able to buy it at the Narita airport in Tokyo, their epidermal growth factor and the aqua collagen-gel are fabulous, Recently the company was bought by Johnson&Johnson. Pyunkal yul from Korea, their nutrition cream is one of the best creams I ever tried. Hada Labo- japanese, their perfect gel is incredible and formulated with squalene. By the way I don;t think you are using a filter for your videos, your skin looks plume and the color es even and glowing. I will keep following you because I strongly believe you are hungry or learning field and I like that, even if I think you like others are making so much money on youtube that became kind of celebrities. 🙂
