    I sell mostly low end cards in my 60K item store and am currently running a buy one get one sale on all items priced at $2.49 and under (most with free shipping). Just like you mentioned, most people are still buying just one. It's so wild.

      Have you ever tried offering free shipping after buying more than one? I’m just wondering if it’s possible so you do not lose money with single card orders.

    Cool video as always. Dollar tree used to have 80 envelopes for $1.25. They cut them down to 40 for $1.25 so the Walmart envelopes are probably the best deal now. I used to buy out all my dollar trees in the area. I do eBay and TTM so I was using 200-400 envelopes a week.

    From a business accounting perspective, the cost of holding inventory is a cost. The longer you hold the inventory the more expensive it becomes because your capital is tied up in it. Most resellers and retailers in other industries look at inventory turn, and are always trying to turn the inventory as fast as possible. The whole "profit per hour" is very salaryman; a $15/hr employee can run an eBay store. That's $2,400 a month full time. This gentlemen could've just hired someone to do the work, taken a profit, then invested his time into other ways to make $ from his store, such as bulk lots for wholesalers, mid to high end, etc. He had a chance to make this scale, by replacing himself at a lower cost to babysit the low end because he's worried about profit per hour from his labor, rather than thinking about profit per hour off someone else's which is more inline how people who scale businesses think.

      Don’t forget FICA/FUTA plus I gotta train the kid to use my custom software, follow all of my processes, and then pray he doesn’t just leave and do it on his own after I’ve invested a bunch of time and money into educating him.
      Then I gotta take on a bunch of overhead for managing the payroll, getting an office, buying hardware for his work station, etc etc.
      Too much risk/headache for my side biz that I do to relax when I’m not taking care of client work in my main biz.

    • @puntpassclick
      @puntpassclick 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@paulcarlcards9050 There is risk in any business. Saying something doesn't scale bc you can't personally stomach the risk of managing a $15/hr laborer is laughable.

      @@puntpassclick that’s not what the barrier is. The barrier is a 100,000 limit to how many singles you can list on eBay and then, if you upgrade to the $3,000/mo Enterprise store, you only get up to 180,000 listings (iirc).
      The program that gave a lot of other singles sellers millions of free listings is ended and isn’t coming back. The people who are grandfathered in to it are worries they’re going to lose it too.
      You can’t carry a $0.05/mo listing fee on hundreds of thousands of low end singles that could easily take over a year to sell (on top of a $3,000/mo store sub). The math just doesn’t work out.
      I considered continuing on my own website that would be promoted to eBay customers, but ultimately it made more sense to “productize” the inventory and offer unique listings that no other seller offers at prices that destroy what customers would pay to buy them as singles. We’ll see if this experiment plays out well.

    If you are selling the majority of your cards @ $1.75 free ship, then your net is somewhere around 45 cents. That accounts for all shipping supplies and fees, but does not account for the cost of the card. I get where Paul is coming from as a man would have to sell 500 cards per day to net $225 in profit (and that is if all cards were free). I cannot wrap my head around some of the guys who sell sub $5 cards full time.

      They have to have a mix of some higher end cards in there too as well as regulars who buy tons of cards at once. A big trap in selling bulk at volume is just like the ripping wax trap: you’re chasing hits (and for the bulk seller, hits are those 20+ card orders).

    He had a hundred thousand cards but was not selling enough 5k is low in my opionion for that many cards I have three hundred cards on my eBay and average 700 a month. So he’s sells my 5k worth of cards so I’m guessing he was licking around three thousand enevelopes a month his time spent had to be pretty high for that many cards. Lost on the other hand allow more of your inventory to fly off the shelve so he could be doing enough lots to exceed 5k per month and probably 10 percent the time shipping as before. With that being said there is too many dollar card sellers on eBay that’s absolutely killed the market and crashing it into the ground. By next year people will have to sell cards for ten cents to make a sale. Mahomes and Brady parallels that once sold for ten dollars a card are .50 cents on comc and eBay now. It’s a mess and this will kill cards for another three decades.
