Ive pretty much pivoted away from selling any sports cards under $2 shipped mostly because I dont want to compete just to make 50 cents. Dabbling with numbered cards and auto cards around $3-$20 I find better as there floor is a bit more reasonable and companies like Burbank and ComC actually usually dont list at the bottom price for those.
I cannot imagine the initial wave of sales when they rolled out the 99 cent free shipping on over 120,000 cards at once 😂 they probably had all hands on deck
Good service helps bring back customers to a small degree but having cards people want is the key. In this market if you are just selling cards collectors can get anywhere, then it's gonna be just a price war.
Burbank is able to sell 99 cent auctions because they do not pay listing fees. Ebay and Beckett Market Place do not charge Burbank Cards. This is well known in the hobby. Rob is not going to grind his business with 99 cent buy it nows across his platform. He's listing garbage. He's using stock photos. Another Post Office increase coming early next year will wipe out this low dollar loss leader. It's easy for his team when he has 15 warehouse guys pulling singles from a very defined inventory process/warehouse. Burbank is literally blowing out mass produced inventory. He's doing what I can't scale up do to limited space and time. I have 4 Million cards that would take me a lifetime to list by myself.
I think they're doing this to compete with COMC. You can rack up $0.35 cent cards and combine hundreds of them into a bulk shipping order for less than $0.01 per card.
I have all my variation listings ($.99 commons) as buy 5 or more get 60% off $.99 shipping plus $.30 each additional card. So on a 5 card sell Burbank is getting $4.95 while my sale is $4.17, so I’m cheaper. These are cards that I just need to get rid of that are only worth $.05-$.25. Additional shipping charge comes in handy for larger orders that need bubble mailer or box. I max it out at $4.89 shipping.
Variation listings are the way to go. It's much faster than listing each of those cards individually and eBay is probably the only place where you can sell commons for 99c.
I full heartedly agree with your perspective. It's all about providing value and good customer service. I buy more than I sell on Ebay and way too many "sellers" charge .25 or .50 per card to combine shipping just to make extra money. I will never buy again from a seller who does this. I understand if a bulk order actually makes the shipping cost go up and will gladly pay more for this but way too many sellers just don't care about creating customer loyalty. Good Video 👍
I remember seeing a listing that does this where the seller had the audacity to say something to the effect of "I don't like to make money off shipping." It's so weaselly.
Being able to talk coherently at the same time as packing envolopes is best part of this video- if u shipped all those without error my hats off to you
It's simple. Before you list, make sure that no one else has it for lower than you will take. Burbank has an insane amount of cards that are just taking up space and they want the $$$ back. Even if they break even, they win, because it sometimes starves the competition out of existence which sometimes mean they are the only left one around when someone gets hot and they can charge a premium and move it out.
Everything I looked at on Burbank was $1.49 free shipping. Some players they only had a few cards of. So they don't have every card ever made. So no worries... here...
ive only used the fujitsu 7030, which i got for just under 500 when i bought it. Check out www.youtube.com/@JMacSportsCards he's reviewed a handful of scanners. thanks for watching !
Burbank gets inventory by buying really low bulk...They probably just clearing some inventory to churn new inventory & grab new customers attention! Don't sweat the technique!
I think they are trying to get rid of some inventory. They may need some more space. After a while, they could run out of space in their warehouse. Just my thought. I usually buy from the the LCS or eBay for the low end cards.
that's the problem with mass Consignment seller's they're selling other people's card's so they don't care how cheap it sells for because they get their percentage no matter what and the owner of the card eats it, I even know one company (Hoody's Collectibles) that if your card doesn't meet their $3 minimum sale price you end up owing them money!
2 Bros is my local sports card shop that I frequented quite a bit, but they could be in financial trouble as their stock of cards has diminished quite a bit. Haven't been back there in a while, but I know them very well. They are located in Minneapolis, MN.
Good feedback. It sure is slim pickings in this low end game! Are you at the scale of having to pay taxes on your card income? Does that cut your rofits even more?
I’m not worried about Burbank and 2Bros. Plenty of space and customers for all of us. Just keep listing. I’ll let them sell base. I’m more into low end autos and serial numbered stuff that’s under $20. Done well since EBay introduced the SES standard envelope shipping and I’m not going to stop now.
I sell mainly low value singles and been competing with them for years. Their prices are pretty much impossible to beat. I do it where I can and don't when it simply makes no sense. I shudder to think about how much money I've lost over the years in trying to undercut their extremely low prices. Fortunately, after many years of making friends, developing relationships, and gaining repeat customers via fair prices and solid customer service, I'm able to sell enough to still make it worth my time.
Didnt know about burbank after 30. I always saw their 99 cent, 99 ship listings That makes sense with 2 bros. Theyd already have made their money so just dumping it.
2 Bros has stopped doing breaks from what I have seen, I could be mistaken as I haven't checked their store in a while. I went to their retail shop a couple of months ago and they do not seem to be getting any new inventory. Personally, I think they may be in financial trouble. I do know from speaking from the workers, that they lost a lot of employees lately.
I don't think it's necessarily crashing the low-end market. eBay is a weird place where the lowest price doesn't always win. I've seen several situations where the most successful sellers for a particular set are not free shippers. Even if the 99c free shippers do win, they are likely opening hobby cases which means the pack hits may not cover the losses from the commons.
People get very passionate about cross listing on other platforms. To the point they think everyone should. To many, it's a waste of time management for the result. Some passionate people think they're really doing something by listing on other platforms, sort of like sitting in rush hour vs going an alternate route to get home at the same time.
@@TheFlippingSportsGuy I'm just trying to work out the math... $1.75, minus the cost of the card, minus .30 cents final value, minus .22 (?) for the % of sale final value fee, minus .63 for postage, minus.10 for shipping supplies (the envelope, printer labels, penny sleeve, and card saver) comes to about .50 "profit". Then you have expenses I do not have, like your eBay store, a Card Dealer pro subscription, and any other subscriptions, you have, like Canva. When all of those are factored in, are you actually making a profit on a single card sale? Would it ever come to the point that you charge a small shipping fee for the first card to cover that cost?
most cards i wind up about 25-30 cent profit, on good months it can be slightly higher based on volume. i used to do $1 plus the 1oz ship rate, and card sales were much lower than when offering the free shipping.
Burbank will do what ever they want. I think they are hoping to get many multiple card sales and return customers. 99-cent customers become higher dollar value cards as time goes by.
I sell some on other platforms and do ok but not to the level on eBay. There is room for everyone in the market you just have to be smart ,strategic and realize your not going to get rich selling $1.50 cards. I tell everyone I'm not getting rich but I'm having a lot of fun doing it.
I send a coupon for 10% off to everyone that buys from my store. I send a thank you message with a reminder to leave positive feedback and a coupon. Some people use the coupon but I think what it has done more is it has helped me get positive feedback.
overall they're definitely not... at 99 cents free shipping, if they have same ebay fees as the common folk there'd be just because of the shipping. i do doubt they pay the same fees though.
"We got customer service," always loses in the end. Always. Price is just about all people care about. This is pure delusion. My mom ran a mom and pop audiology office. They all though that their customer service would make the difference. When Costco started selling hearing aids it was, "But we have better service." I'll never forget her telling the story of an old man who came in with tears in his eyes saying, "I love you guys so much and you have done so much for me. I hate to return these hearing aids but I have to in order to save money cause Costco has them cheaper. Pure doom if customer service is your strategy. The little this or that store? Bro, those places are evaporating. They exist in small towns but guess what? The internet ain't a small down.
Good customer service doesn’t always lose. In fact I would never order again from Burbank BECAUSE of their bad customer service. On the other hand, I have no problem paying a little more for an item if I get good friendly service from someone.
Two points... 1) Burbank's massive inventory was and is a bigger threat to low-end card sellers. Not the price. 2) All of the fear mongers talking about Burbank is doing more harm than good. All of this talk is just giving them (Burbank) free publicity about where to find cheap cards (cheaper than the store owners complaining).
@@TheFlippingSportsGuy Sorry, I looked up hockey section and only saw 5 listings. Seems to be a lot of the old listings from 1990s are like that. Maybe they forgot to change them? All of newer cards from past 4 years aren't like that.
It's not just Burbank it's all of these other clueless sellers on eBay selling their cards add a fraction of the value I mean they're giving the cards away and they're totally destroying the market and it makes me so mad they're so stupid so list their cards at dirt cheap prices and their posting themselves money and their costing other sellers money and destroying the market
99 percent of wannabe card sellers strategy. Undercut the other guys price. Genius. Now you all are losing money to sell on eBay. And Burbank amongst many other large card sellers are blowing out their inventories because the juice is gone. They are more then likely attempting to pivot. Problem with card shops is you rely on the sales of cards. But it’s been a race to the bottom with penny cards.

Well said and I totally agree

Economy tightening is certainly the biggest of the concerns right now.

At least on eBay, they rebranded to rwc100. You can tell since their listing descriptions still reference 2 bros.

eBay standard envelopes changed the game. Free shipping is negligible because I don’t know anyone who will buy one $1 card with free shipping.
I'm pretty sure the majority of my low-end or common sales are 1-card orders. I do $1 + shipping but I doubt it's any different.

Enough to make it worth your time, thats the key thing! there's enough place in the space for all of us, we just have to find what works for us.
It does also seem they may be transitioning to a $1.49 price point though. It could take a lot of time to change prices on millions of cards
It would actually not take long at all, with bulk editing it could be done in a matter of minutes.
Burbank has had 1.00 cards for years and if you bought $30 you got Free ship. Two Bros I think does breaks and sells the leftover base.
