    1980 Nolan Ryan graded 10 sold for22k Ozzie Smith same. I have those cards and to me they look no different than the 22k card then you go to E Bay and see the same cards for 5 or 10$ also look fine. Kind of deflating.

    5 Things I Wish I knew BEFORE getting back into Sports Cards
    (1) Sports cards are NOT an investment
    (2) Breaking is an overall waste of money and pretty much gambling ("Gambling is for fools" - Lemmy Kilmister)
    (3) Better to buy the single of the card you want rather than chase it in a break (see point # 2)
    (4) The shadiness, corruption and ease of money laundering of "The Hobby" will eventually lead to the inevitable Federal gov't regulation.
    (5) Collect what you like (cliche but true), don't worry about what "influencers" are pumping

    I've been selling this last year on Ebay and want to start 2024 under a proper LLC. I already attend card shows and setup a table. My collection is a little over 300,000 cards, been collecting since I was kid. Grading wise, I have about 13,000 cards that are or worthy for grading.

    • @mikestahlman8225
      @mikestahlman8225 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm in a similar boat. Been collecting off and on since the 80's. Sometimes I wouldn't buy cards for a few years but... For some reason grading wasn't a big deal back then. At least for me and those around me. It wasn't until a couple years ago that I realized grading is a great way to increase profit. It makes sense. Way easier to sell a card with a grade than not. We all see raw cards differently and the grade takes out all the difference. G/L moving forward on your endeavors

      I'm 43 and mine and my brothers collection was stolen from pur home when we were about 11 or 12 . We had so many rookies of all kinds and it makes me sick to think about that ! My son who will be 14 this month got me back into cards through pokemon and had played yugioh when it first came out . He reeled me in with a card he brought home and we sold it on ebay . I then took $200 and let him take half of his card money and we ended up pulling the alt art charizard from Brilliant stars and the pull luck and all has gone from there and I have just recently 2 months ago hot back into sports cards

      Same here, knowing how or where to sell without getting screwed. I’m wanting to sell my childhood collection from the 70’s early 80’s.Seems to be those big money cards PSA graded then you go on E Bay and that same card is 5 or 10$. Kind of deflating. I just want to sell them all and be done with it. Not giving them away after saving them for over 40 plus years.

    • @trentbateman

      Pick a popular card show that isn’t too far from you and ask what the price is to setup a table. Then let people know there that you’re willing to move the lot, or just price everything aggressively and require a minimum spend or total amount of cards per purchase. Could also go to a card dealer and just take pictures of your collection and have an inventory and approach them to see if they’ll buy inventory. Expect a 50% haircut offer though

    • @GGonmyown
      @GGonmyown 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @anthonyg.4761 there's the price of the card by itself and then the graded price. Anything below an 8 would be pretty much the ungraded price. Anything 8.5 or higher is worth looking into. Look for cards with autographs and that are numbered 1/500 or less and those are valuable. Also Anything labeled rookie card (RC)

      I do not have a bank roll to start buying high grade cards. I would buy bulk lots and only a small percentage were ones I would want to keep as a collector compared to the boxes full of commons and no name players. Giving people on Ebay and the like my money for their unwanted junk is not a hobby I wish to pursue. Nor is having boxes full of cards that are basically just a fire hazard and useless.

Don't know what price guide to even go to, I've been out of the game for a while and I'm still trying to catch up since coming back in, which I greatly regret. Since the card manufacturers have now become a monopoly of 1, why doesn't Fanatics put a small qr code on the bottom of every card from every (now shell company) brand? Imagine a world where you went to sell a card and you could scan that qr code and have all the info autofilled for you without mistakes or variances that drive everyone crazy and perpetuate & facilitate scams? This whole video is basically describing the same characteristics of stock trading. Stock trading is not a "hobby" and neither is what is being shown here. Most people who transact frequently in anything that fluctuates in price to a great degree like stocks or cards will lose money.

    As a subscriber, I love the channel. However I have mixed feelings on videos like this. For those of us who figured all this out on our own a long time ago, you're taking our advantage away as far as finding our deals

      Bro, it sounds like what you’re really saying is, you want most hobbyists to stay in the dark so you can keep taking advantage of the chumps… that’s not a good look man

      Chumps? Back in the day there was no Internet, there were no comps.. You could get ripped off without even knowing it..and that's the way it was! Hobbyists today have it way to easy! If you always wanna make the best deal you have to educate yourself

      Move with the times, my friend. We are in the digital age, this is now how information is learned. Why do you want to make it hard for the new people just because it was hard for you? Bet someone who is a dying collector would be grateful their family has a tool like this to know what to do with it.

      @@pedrocirino5695 chumps, uneducated, naïve, however you’d like to describe them… his comment makes it sound as if he would prefer people stay uneducated so that he can continue to use their naïveté to make more money off of people who don’t know what they’re doing. The education process is key, as you stated. So, why would he be torn on educational videos like this one, unless he’s wanting to take advantage of the uneducated? .. we should always be seeking more education.
