@@pixiiedusts Hey, fanfic writer here! Literally in my non-spoiler review of the movie on IG I said it felt like a fanfic in the best way possible! Just in the sense that everything people write fics about (i.e. everything fans WANTED to see in this film), it all happened.
Willem Dafoe is a great actor but his portrayal of the green goblin is phenomenal I mean it REALLY feels like the green goblin is an alternate personality of willem Dafoe and not just Norman osborn
I always loved how much he was such a psycho In the Raimi verse, hell bent on breaking spider-man and proving a point. I was so glad to see how he was written the same way In no way home and how ruthless he was.
I felt genuine sympathy for Norman, to the point that I could get on board with Aunt May trying to help him-- and then his turn to irredeemable psychopathy felt equally real.
The physical transformation is hugely pivotal but extremely understated. Anytime it is Norman Orborn, Willem DaFoe has fake teeth making his smile more “normal” looking but any time he switches to GG, he uses his normal teeth which are a bit more “crazy” looking. It is subtle but adds a lot.
I love how both of the foreign spidermen get those little moments of closure. One getting to save a falling MJ and the other getting to save Norman Osbourne from being impaled by his own glider.
I’m amazed he didn’t mention how easy it would have been if Peter asked Dr strange to cast a spell to make everyone forget what Masterio said instead of himself lol

It's so easy to just not think about how many things make no sense or how they aren't good enough when you're having as much fun as you do in No Way Home. Thankfully, we have the pitch meeting to remind us!
As good ol Ed Wood said "Suspension of disbelief!" if a movie is good, you'll forgive more stuff, when you start nitpicking like crazy its because the movie wasn't good enough in general.
When magic is involved, the story has no need of common sense anymore. Harry Potter series didn't have any common sense as well, isn't it? Because they have all become fantasy stories.
Yeah, the plotting - from beginning to end - didn't really hang together, but the fan service is so much fun the movie still works. Glad I saw it with an enthusiastic crowd.
I still think the biggest missed opportunity was the fact that they gave him an apartment at the end. If he went into the next film homeless they could have called Spidey 4 Got no Home lol
@@JTM610 not the only one. I really enjoyed the movie wearing my nostalgia glasses, but some moments it was clear the dialogue was intended to reach a callback rather than develop the plot further
Lol! Strange was so surprised by the person he forgets is just a kid being good at math xD so now we all know how to stop magic its super easy barely an inconvenience because Geometry
It was cool that it gave Spiderman an edge for being smart...but at the same time it was yet another thing that came at the cost of Dr Strange. Like Dr Strange had to overlook that in order for the scene to work and that looks bad on him.
Wouldn't strange, being a surgeon doctor, also have to be somewhat good at math to be as precise as he was? Didn't strange also memorize the entire library of books at Tamerkage within a few months?
Meh. Having a record of someone's social security number doesn't mean you know who they are. The spell removed Peter Parker from people's memories, it didn't erase Peter Parker from existence. For most people, their lives after the spell were the same as they were before The Daily Bugle revealed Spider-Man's identity. Same for all the bureaucracy that relates to Peter Parker.

@@erikhermansen3431 The hive mind that the venom symbiots share knew of Peter Parker and that he was Spider-Man. Even if they normally could not share this information between universes, tho I think they can since Venom said universes, the multiverse was cracking and allowed it.
I'm calling it now: Nick Fury did not forget who Spiderman is, because he is "off planet" and the spell in the beginning of the movie stated "Everyone in the world forgot that Peter Parker is Spiderman" Since we never heard Strange say anything while incanting his spell, I'm just assuming it was the same as the first one.
At the same time though, when Peter was requesting the spell to Strange, he did make it clear that he wanted "everyone" to forget about him, which would include multi-versal beings and probably everyone in his universe. But ya never know, these movies always find a way
This seems like a small plot hole. None of these characters came searching for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. They came looking for the Peter Parker they knew. Wouldn’t this spell basically make everyone in all universes forget who Peter Parker is in every universe?
@@rui5421 I had the same thought after watching this Pitch Meeting. I'm wondering if that may open the door for a future recombination of the Spider Man's when they go back to a world that forgot each of them...

Tobey was able to save Harry's dad and Andrew was able to save Peter's girlfriend. This movie didn't just redeem or give second chances to its villains but its heroes too. Just beautiful. Also the subtle reference to Toby's "back injury" was genius. Only Marvel can bring up an issue that almost got Maguire replaced by Jake Gyllenhaal.
Lol, they were actually referencing Spiderman 2 and the famous, "I'm back, ow my back" line. But that's also a funny take on it that I hadn't thought about
@@ramshackle45 Sam Raimi has said in interviews that the line in Spider-Man 2 is a joking reference to the whole drama about Tobey's "back injury" issue drama with the negotiations before that film.

I was pleasantly shocked that they managed to be a large part of the story and each had their moments but it was still very clearly Tom’s movie. Loved the way they used andrew and Tobey
@@Adrian-dl9nb what? They added a lot. Tom got to see the 2 sides of being Spider-Man. In Tobey, he has more embraced the Peter Parker aspect. He made it work with MJ, he was just chilling in casual clothes and offers great wisdom. Andrew seemed to abandon the Peter Parker and embraced the Spider-Man persona. He got dark, stopped pulling punches, and all that. Now, tom showed that he will work in the middle ground and understand the consequences of going to far on either side. It was poetic how much they added to the story. Plus Andrew’s redemption with saving MJ and Tobey being the one to stop Tom from killing the Goblin sounds pretty damn important to me

@@prof_hu I'd recommend it. The Raimi trilogy is really well-made, even though the third installment had its hiccups. And for the Webb trilogy, as you could probably tell from No Way Home, Garfield is a really good Spider-Man, even if the script wasn't always up to par.
I think the fact that Ned was able to create portals effortlessly and that the cape went to him will come into play later. Also, remember that he explicitly swore never to hurt Peter by turning into a supervillain, but has now forgotten everything. That also might become a storypoint later.
I could of sworn Strange threw the cape at him so he wouldn’t fall and die cuz spider-man was busy and MJ was saved, but maybe magic will come into play but I think if Strange erased everyone’s memories of Peter I don’t think Ned MJ or Strange even remember that happened , I hope Strange remembers but he did say bye like he wasn’t going to remember

Their asses wouldn't have needed to be saved, and 1000's more innocent lives wouldn't have been lost if he just sent them back like he should have at the beginning lol. So no, he didn't save everyone by saving one. The people who died would disagree.

I thought they were going to appear during middle of a fight when tom is taking on too many at once but i also loved how they actually entered the movie
the way tobey and andrew appeared on the screens was the most wasted moment on the mcu, there are gazilian better ways that could have happened better than it did
The producer somehow not having any clue about Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield being previous Spider-Men was similar to a friend I have who knew nothing about them two being Spider-Men
Great stuff. Have to say that even when parodying the plot Ryan still, like me , admires the fact that these weren’t just cheap cameos. What they did with Toby and Andrew really exceeded expectations.
Yes, yes it did. I think we all expected cameos, or for them to come in, in the middle of the final battle or moments before it. They came in quite early and had big parts. It truly was a love letter to the fans.

Exactly. I notice so many weird stuff in the beginning but forgot all of it when Andrew popped up. Even before then, the villains were so good how they interacted and Doc Oc, Goblin and Electro were amazing. William Defoe deserves an Oscar
"Cashing in on nostalgia done right" god that is so true. I didn't even realised i was nostalgic for Maguire until he showed up. All the pisstake bits in the pitch are so accurate and yet it works anyway somehow.

In my theater, everyone cheered when Matt Murdock appeared, then everyone went crazy when Andrew appears, and then everyone went INSANE when Toby appears.
I had the same questions about the practical application of the end spell. Does Peter still have an SSN, a birth certificate? Is he no longer in his high school yearbook? Will MJ look at the yearbook's debate club photo, and wonder, "Wait, is that coffee guy?" Like, how much does this spell change on a practical, physical level?
And I also wondered why the spell was different at the end. Initially the spell just makes people forget he's Spiderman. But for some reason at the end the spell makes everyone forget he even exists, and they try to act like that was the spell all along.

I loved Peter in this movie. He was the best character with the best display of emotions. Peter was very convincing and look amazing. Peter was spectacular in the action scenes
It’s funny since it would make the most sense for him to come back but didn’t. Tom Hardy’s Venom getting pulled makes no sense despite how much I love his and how his was better than Topher Grace’s. Topher Grace’s Eddie/Venom knew Peter was Spider-Man and died fighting him. DeHaan and Franco’s would’ve made sense too but they couldn’t pfor different reasons. People didn’t have a good reception to Dehaan’s Goblin and Franco couldn’t come back due to sexual assault cases. It’s a damn shame with Franco’s since it would’ve gave Tobey’s more to do if his Harry was included along with Norman coming back.
The joke is that Hollywood producer guy doesn't care about or watch any of the movies he greenlights, he only listens to make sure they're gonna make lots of money.
Yeah the scene where Doctor Strange casts the spell kinda bothered me, you could tell they had no other way to make all this happen so they made Peter (who is supposed to be extremely bright btw) just add name after name while Strange is casting the spell. It was really clunky.

The Electro and social security number issues were spot-on.
Meh. Having a record of someone's social security number doesn't mean you know who they are. The spell removed Peter Parker from people's memories, it didn't erase Peter Parker from existence.

With all of its flaws, this is the best Spidey movie ever for me. The look on Andrew Garfield's face when he saved MJ was priceless.
Best scene in the movie.
I cried so hard. Happy tears, of course!
When I saw MJ falling in the Trailer I immediately wanted them to do EXACTLY that! I am very satisfied with it!
nah, spiderman 2 and into the spider verse are both a lot better. Spiderman 1 was also better.
I’m still deciding how I feel about it and I think it’s because I’m not big enough of a spidey fan to forgive its flaws so easily lol. I LOVED that part where Andrew Garfield caught MJ though. That was so special. ❤️
@@ceciliahorner2664 same. The movie was subpar. Dialogue were weak, spiderman's trademark humor was missing and Tom's acting missed a mark at some points. Amazing fan service though. They made a lot happen.

Andrew and Tobey appearing are one of the handful of times I've been in a theater where the audience erupted in cheers and clapping (me joining in). So well done.

I think these are things you have to overlook or things will start to making less sense 🤣
And I also wondered why the spell was different at the end. Initially the spell just makes people forget he's Spiderman. But for some reason at the end the spell makes everyone forget he even exists, and they try to act like that was the spell all along.
@@jacobstevens7046 No, doctor strange casted a new, different spell at the end where they literally have to erase all traces of this Peter Parker from the world.
I think he had a GED or some sort of school book when he moved into his new apartment because his academic record was lost. Or maybe thats just because he didn't get into college and needs to try again?

Toby: I fought an alien made of black goo
Tom: I fought an alien too! On earth and in space and he was PURPLE!

I was surprised that Norman wasn't more intrigued to learn about iron man and cap. Advanced military armour and strength enhancement without side effects was kinda his whole goal in the first film
Yeah, the movie felt like it barely touched on the fact that this Spider-Man exists alongside other heroes, except those who actually show up here. The "who are the Avengers?" line was fun, but it was nice to see Tobey and Andrew feeling surprised about the fact that this universe's New York has so many heroes to defend it
All jokes aside, this film was worth watching for its most touching scene: when Andrew's Spidey saved MJ. That was so emotional, a great closure for him.

Writer: “NO! NO ABSOLUTELY NOT!”
