The reviews on Amazon for this are really bad.
@joeblow1942 yes I mentioned it in the video. You can't run it off of the cigarette style plug it requires more power then that. I don't know why people are surprised when they get the error and think it's broken lol it actually is wild to me that so many people had the exact same simple "problem" and blame the unit.
Code doesn't work when following your amazon link above.
That was one of the best introductions I have seen on TH-cam yet!
You told me what the problem was, that needed to be solved. You told me why I would want to watch this video to solve that problem, you took only less than a second to tell me who you are, then you told me exactly what you are going to tell me. All in only 46 seconds.... instead of taking up the first 1/3 of the video.
The fact that the video looks well done, is nice. But is worthless without the things I listed above.
@@GrantSR thanks for watching! And thank you for your comment! Refreshing hearing something positive! I'm glad you enjoyed it for the reasons you mentioned. I will keep that in mind for future videos. Cheers. - Teddy
I think a lot of people misunderstand how tricky and finnicky diesel heaters in general can be to operate. If you use a hose that's 3" on a high setting, it'll overheat. If you unplug it without proper shutdown, it'll foul and cake with soot. A lot of them require a ton of power to start, and when batteries can't keep up they error out.
I really don't think these things are as bad to operate and people make them out to be, I really just think they have some finnicky operating instructions and procedures, but operate reliably within those limits. Keep up the good work!
@@alexross4062 you absolutely nailed it. Cheers!
@@alexross4062 go from the 3" to a 4" hose would help with the restriction

The condensation inside the tent when it is not raining...it is your breath...we exhale a LOT of moisture...
@@roamingscooterguy2786 this has been mentioned a couple of times. I'm talking about when it's just in the driveway not being used. It's normal here. Rv's, cars all get condensation inside this time of year.
I remember when I was a kid living in Germany we used a Russian diesel heater; they were more or less unbreakable, but noisy.
This one looks great & modern.
😃👍 from Wales.
@@rogerhargreaves2272 wow! Cheers!! Thanks for saying hi!
I love the tick because you can tell exactly what your heater is doing if you are not able to look at it or can't hear the voice say, "low fuel". This is coming from someone who has all no tick clocks as I cannot stand them. Pretty funny. Thanks again for your videos! Please keep it up.
Oooo good point!!

@@southernyankeecustomuphols5480 you must be one of those rare people that actually understands how to run things Hahaha glad it worked out for you!
I've got this and it runs perfect, the pump is quiet, and the air intake is filtered. I drilled out the rivets on mine and replaced with rivnuts so I can just unscrew for maintenance..
@@Chris66able great idea
I use a diesel heater to heat my 800 sq ft cabin in Montana. I'm on my 2nd one while I wait for a new fan motor for my first one. It lasted 1-1/2 winters before soot built up on the motor and seized it. I cleaned off the soot but it also built up on the brushes and messed them up.
The fans are much louder than the fuel pump, which I can't even hear after it is warmed up and running.
ALL Chinese diesel heaters are the SAME inside. This one is TWICE twice as expensive as the last one I bought last week, bc of the nice case.
@@MyBacktrail not true at all... They are very different inside. The fuel pump is probably the most noticeable. The spot build up could be from not exhausting it correctly.
I can't comprehend this fascination or focus on the ticking?
I hear it, and it actually helps me sleep as well as the white noise from the fan.
My only concern is efficiency and dependability.
@@Todd41R I barely would hear it. Until I heard one that doesn't tick. Lol
The ticking is just the fuel pump which you can replace or simply insulate just like your new heater it’s simply in a box to keep the sound down
@@Justmekpc yes exactly. But if I was buying again, I'd just get it already done. It's not much more expensive this way. And saves time doing the work. But yes absolutely, can solve the ticking problem if it bugs you and you already have one for sure.
I have a small converted school bus with a diesel heater that’s mounted underneath
I took some pipe insulation and covered the fuel pump and it’s pretty quiet
@Justmekpc brilliant!
Mine came in and works fantastic even bought 2 more and all of them work good just have to have a good battery pack or run off a good inverter or you will get error codes. So other then that all of them work great and yes no ticking hardly at all only when it first starts then goes away.
@@ROAMING-ROOTS excellent!!
Adding to my need list! Great vid, brother.
@@bevestush thank you buddy!!!!! 🙌
I saw another video where the guy ran it on his vehicle battery with engine running to warm up the diesel heater. Then when it is warmed up switch to the portable battery.
@@philipking8426 that makes sense!
This toolbox is sold from a few company different names . There’s a few other toolbox heaters like this from other companies, but this is finally the one with the quiet pump. You used to have to open it up disassemble it and change the pump to the quiet one. This is nice that you can just use it out of the box. I also have a zero breez 3 coming in which is a heat pump and ac. Bought a big goal zero 4000 watt hour I haven’t tested yet since I haven’t gotten it but I wanna see how well it does before I get in a diesel heater.
I also have the ecoflow wave 2... It's a nice unit but here it gets too cold. I Regularly below its recommended operating temp of 5 degrees Celsius. Especially at night. Probably not a problem for others. And also not sure what the zero breeze is in comparison. Ecoflow messed up big time with not being able to charge the battery separately from the unit. Makes it hard to use....
@@UnwindingRoads Yea in the real cold this heater you show is the way to go. On the ZB3 the battery they are now releasing for it, does charger and discharger at the same time. I just checked and the minimum temp is 10F or up for it work so about -12C. they barely are rolling out so let see how it tests out. I'm on preorder so I I think by next years Ill have it.
If it doesn't do the job, Im coming back and getting this heater you show. Good deal with your coupon code!
@@Good-luck-Jonathan - 12c is plenty!! It very rarely gets that cold around here.
@Good-luck-Jonathan be sure to check out the new. Fogotti portable mini split AC. Plus their RV electric air fryer & cooktop range
I just tried the vevor recently and it works amazing but like you said, once someone mentions the tick.... I am considering one of these box ones for my camping next year though. The vevor is more for my trailer. I do not think the mufflers really even do much with these heaters.
@@Jakereviewsall you can replace the fuel pump to make it more quiet... But if you were to get a new u it might as well have it already quiet lol
@@UnwindingRoads I like the idea of the box version, Vevor sent me the other one so no loss but its still a decent heater. I would just prefer the box setup to use in the truck and camping.

i received exactly the same, i ordered on aliexpress, starts up blows cold, fuel pump starts bringing diesel in then shutsdown, on screen error says E10. brand new heater aswell.
@browniebrakedancing what are you using to plug it in?
@@UnwindingRoads using the power adapter that came with the unit. Plugging it straight into the mains supply. AliExpress have just today refused my request to return the item, not giving any real explanation as to why? I've responded and had to open up a new refund procedure
@browniebrakedancing is it the one with the ac box? Or did you wire it directly to battery? Or cigarette plug? It seems there's a few people with this issue I want to grt to the bottom of it.

nice air hose!!!! i use one like your first aluminium, how can i buy a hose like this one more strong
@@Goycrow I have no idea where to get this one. It's a 3 inch dryer house but a little more stiff and stays collapsed. I wish I could be more help....
@@UnwindingRoads hey! just i bought this sunster heater, i had another like this from the brand velpax, need to say there is a lot of diferences! one view and you can see good quality on details. and you say it the hose is incredible!! but it dont fit with the heater... or maybe not easy... how do you fit it easily??? the air outlet to the hose??
@Goycrow I've heard people stretch the air hose, slide it in, and then spin it so it catches the inside of the metal toolbox. I ended up getting a 3 to 4 inch adapter and using a 4 inch hose.
Ticking is the fuel pump and I don’t know why they don’t put a fuel pump in that doesn’t have this problem… I would definitely go for the one you are showing 👍🏻
Yes exactly. I've heard of people swapping out the fuel pumps but even those still tick. Just more quietly. This one doesn't tick at all.
The reason cheaper models don't come with the silent pump, is exactly what you think... they're cheaper, and controlling them is easier. The clicking pumps are solenoid (pulse pump) or binary... (on or off). This is also why the clicking is still audible if you get a silent pump, because the binary controller is still sending the same signal.
The quieter systems will have a PWM pump and controller. Larger, expensive, high output models (not the Chinese design) may use a constant flow pump with a diverter/regulator valve.
Nice, I like it may add it to my set up. Thanks 👍
I'm really happy with it. Legitimately
Just wondered how long this diesel heater lasts on a full tank of fuel?

@@billoyler8041 I have a few power stations but I always find myself going back to the bluetti ac60 with the b80 expansion pack. Thank you very much and welcome to the channel!
What about the air inlet for combustion chamber is it filtered? Id like to see the bottom of the heater that exhaust will get really hot so be careful what you sit it on. I like to have the option to hook a return hose to recirculate air instead of having to heat cold fresh air
You'd probably have to drill out a hole to run the hose into the toolbox... It has small legs. I've had it on my plastic table and its far enough away that it hasn't burned it. I'll take another look. The air inlet is a box under the unit but not sure if it's filtered
Will it work on a thermostat and completely shutt off when set temp is reached?
Yes I believe so. It looks like it runs on the same program and controller as every other diesel heater
I enjoyed this video .
And I enjoyed your comment. Thank you!
You don’t know how the humidity gets in the tent?? It comes from you!
From sitting in the driveway and me not being in it for weeks?
@@UnwindingRoads Humidity is everywhere, it all depends on the ambient temperature, whenever said material be it tent fabric, metal, plastics, etc., when surface of stuff reaches the dew point temp moisture forms (condensation). You can equalize the dew point temp of said material(s) with its surrounding environment, by simply opening things up, and ventilate/get air moving. A heater works because simply put, it makes the material warmer than the dew point, in addition to moving air flow across the surface for drying effect.
I don't know if I'm buying it; people on Amazon aren't fans. 3 stars so far. How much did you PAY for it?
Sunster sent it to me. I gave away my vevor one after using this one. I make a commission on every vevor I sell. I don't make anything with this one. I see what you're trying to say. I'm not that guy.
I came here for the heater review... I hope people read this comment. The Ram Ecodiesel is a time bomb for its owners that are going to fail, and cost you around $15000 to fix when the CP4 High pressure fuel pump grinds itself into glitter. How Stellantis is legally allowed to sell vehicles with this pump is beyond me. They used it the 2015-20 ram 1500s, and the pump has been used in GM and Ford diesels as well. All have the same result. The pump self destructs and sends grindings throughout the entire system and shuts down permanently. Replacement of the ENTIRE fuel system is NECESSARY. Some techs will clean the tank, but the fuel lines, injecctors, loft pump, everything that has fuel in it will have metal in it. Rick--- diesel tech.
Cheers! They do have a recall for the pump to a new version. It's still a cp4 though 🙄
@UnwindingRoads the replacement for the ecodiesel is to retrofit it to the older CP3 pump. All I do all day is diesel repair. No American manufactured truck will not grenade the CP4. It's not because our fuel is different either as many thought. Bosch is very clear on the engineering of the CP4. It requires high pressure and high volume fuel delivered to it, and American manufacturers use high volume low pressure. I personally believed it was our fuel, with a combination of neglect and abuse. Turns out the issue is clear, that's why Bosch is not liable.
If you top off the diesel tank to avoid bringing additional fuel do you get diesel fuel spills and smell within the sleep area while traveling on rough and off road?
@@peterdement so I ran mine on low for 1 night and it used about a half tank. Assume a half tank per night you'd probably want to bring extra. That said I haven't had any smells with mine. But these caps are pretty cheap I can see that being a problem
Hi. So being uk based we get a lot and I mean a lot of rain. Being so big and with the case and all, can it stay outside the van in the rain or does it have to come inside and I therefore have to drill holes in my van (reference pirates of the Caribbean: stop blowing holes in my ship/van) otherwise like the design and compactness. Thanks
@@Dan-vz9bm it can be outside while you're using it even in the rain. I wouldn't travel with it outside because dirt, dust, water can get in the holes while you're moving...
Teddy can’t seem to buy anything and not delete something! I actually couldn’t hear if it was ticking or not over the sound of that jet engine exhaust

I wonder if the ticking is the exact same as the Hcalory one, and it just happens to be quieter than the Vevor that you’re used to
Absolutely no tick. You can see on the video I put the microphone right to it. I'm assuming the box is the same but internals are different.... Not sure exactly. 100 percent there is no tick whatsoever.

All of the moisture that gets inside your tent is from you breathing. you exhale about 2 pounds of water while you sleep.
@@ChuckFinlan that I understand, but it's not happening when I'm in it. It's happening when it's closed in the driveway for a few days. It happens to cars and rvs too.

It is 16" long x 11" wide x 10 1/2" high. Hope that helps!

I like the no tick and the box it comes in. Is the box weather proof? I see it has some slots on one side I assume for air, does that close up? I currently use the old ticker one and carry in toolbox but would rather mount outside toolbox to free up space . Great video and info
@@thehickspanic8646 the top is sealed... It does have holes for the air. But the air box is also closed. I'm sure a pressure washer sideways would get it though! I think it's fine in the rain and snow.

Thanks for the video, would recommend some more research and a update. Your AC to DC setup is just sucking back the losses in efficiency.. DC to DC and find a better solar generator
You might want to do some research on the supplied hose and if it’s drier rated. The one you picked up from Canadian hardware store is actually rated for driers. Good reasons for that rating
Would be nice for a tear down, as many offshore heaters are cursed with defects. Gas tanks and gas caps leaking and incorrectly vented caps. Wrong type of gas lines used, poor, improper and dangerous wiring inside.
Being that you’re taking this on earthquake trips in the backcountry. I would highly recommend disassembling and verifying the proper parts and connections used.
Many of the FB diesel heater groups can steer you in the right direction.

That is a great question. I have ran it on high for 10 hours and it used about 3/4 tank. I've only ran it on lowish for about 8 hours and it used about half tank.
Got the same thing, didn’t even come with hose clamps, even with holes clamps couldn’t even clamp the tube onto the air outlet because there’s just not enough space to clamp on. I had it on the highest setting and it’s struggling to keep me warm in my truck, it only draws about 30 or less wh. Garbage

How are you powering it? I have an Ecoflow Delta 2 and it probably wont have the power for the initial startup.
Ignore this. Obviously I typed this before I finished watching the video.
All good. Ask any questions. I'm happy to help wherever I can.
Ya didn't have to replace the whole heater dude. Amazon has silent pump replacements for those heaters
@@cowboy6591 sunster sent me this one. But if I were to buy one I'd pick this one instead of buying the pump and the heater.
Had a lot of bad reviews on amazon
@@Mark-lg1td yes I saw that. I guess people don't understand the power requirements of this unit. I mention it in the video. Running it on ac for full days at a time and no issues whatsoever.
Ah yes, the power of psycho suggestion. The ticking, the ticking!
Hahaha that's exactly what happened.
What’s the music used in this video?
there's 3 songs in this video.
The beginning is: Tuneful Tones - Inspiring Space
2 minutes in is: Role Shpigler - Peace
Right after that is : Dear Gravity - Grace
Hope this helps!
That very likely is just a vevor heater stuck in a box and resold at a higher price! Also there are other "brands" with the same box just slapping a different name on it!!!!!
@@garyking9908 yes definitely. But.... This one is made with superior components and doesn't tick.
Looks identical to the Hcalory.
Probably is. Not sure if internally they're the same....
@@UnwindingRoads I have the hcalory and from your video they do look almost identical. But mine does have a slight tick.
If you run it off AC/12v plug it will use WAY less power
Edit: I meant DC
@@hyppievanman you mean DC I'm assuming?
@ I did, I misspoke
@hyppievanman for some reason it won't run off any cigarette plug I've tried....
@ might want to contact the company about that, it should
@@hyppievanman it comes with a plug and 2 wires. you can hook it directly up to a battery. But no plug. It's software related I believe. It says something power related when it shuts off.
Run it in a house, routing the exhaust outside for emergency heat? Not a whole house..,, but a closed off room/space.
@@daakrolb great idea
Nice video. If I add up everything I did to mine it would be more than yours. You definitely have the better buy!
Check out the shake siphon. It’s a saver for transferring diesel fuel ✌️
@@WolfOverland oooooh good call!!!
Diesel heater drawing that much electric power; just eliminate diesel and run a small draw electric heater or electric blanket. Safer, quieter, less space, less cost
@@billjones5178 that's just how much power it uses to start. It uses much less than that once it's going. I also have a small space heater, but prefer the diesel heater. Heated blankets are out for me due to emf.
So it's $100 more than the cheapest option, so there's that.
Prices change... I think this one went up a bit and the cheaper ones got cheaper.
Found it selling for $101 on Ali express!!!!
@@gojibrian6860 excellent!!
You'll need an air conditioner by the time it gets here.😅😂
@Hunter918-98 😂😂
Wow
Wow!
Got bad reviews on Amazon. I dont know. Suspect.
@@socmarine87-D almost all of the reviews are based on power supply. It comes with an ac adapter I don't think people are using. That said, in the comments there's been complaints about the product coming in scratched or not working. I've used mine every week for days at a time and it's been flawless so not sure what's going on.

This doesn't have a built in fuel filter. Clogs easily.
Manufacturer: please add a filter to sell a better product.
@@nolanscheid1724 I haven't seen any of these cheaper units come with one... Not saying there isn't. Just saying I've seen a bunch of diesel heaters and none come with the fuel filter at these lower price.

@@craig8031 almost all the negative reviews are due to power errors. Which I'd put on the user.

Stopped watching @ 2:16 when you said "They sent me this heater". Unbiased review & credibility just went out the window. Definitely will not be buying this heater.
@@kb9826 🤣 ok. But just so you know.... I make no money on this heater but do on the vevor heater. I recommend this one over the vevor. So my review, as always, is unbiased. her more like 60 to 100 higher not saying it is or is not worth the difference
I'm not sure either. There has been a couple of comments saying theirs showed up scratched and stuff. But I believe they bought theirs cheaper from Ali Express might not even be the same thing. Just looks the same
Rooftop tents an inconvenient way for outdoor gear dweebs to waste a crap ton of $$$$ !!!! So goes for jeeps made in in the last 20 yrs. I don't need a diesel heater either. Ya'll have fun keeping up with all car camping; uh... i meant " overlanding " Jones out there !!

@notoriouslopez1 people buying this one or not has no effect on me. I prefer this one over my vevor. If you actually read the comments, ppl are upset and think it doesn't work with DC.
