Great review. I'm working on my own review right now on this, and I was out looking for some inspiration about the previous version which I did not own so that I could at least have some knowledge of what the improvements are over their previous model. One correction tho is, it's not a 4" hose, its 90mm (which is closer to a 3.5") hose, which is not very common at all. I need to buy some adapters to hook this up the way I want it and they are not as easy to find as I would like.
@@enigmascape yes, it is 3 1/2” but a 4” duct with a clamp will work a 3” won’t . I put the duct that the unit comes with on, then I take the end flange and cut off the tube to make a coupler, put the tube into the end of the duct then put the 4” duct over the end of the duct. My thumbnail shows exactly how I have it set up and on my next video I will show how I set it up for tent camping.
@@ATEMOFFROAD Cool, I look forward to it. I really like how you shortened the muffler pipe and air intake to make it far more manageable and portable, great ideas there! I'm installing mine in my RV (5th wheel) in a bit more of a semi-permanant setup (I will take it out in spring) in my main compartment, and intend to make it easy to remove and use it for tent camping on cool lights too so I'm going to order some parts to cut up and do you're little trick there and have those on hand as well.
Since they built in a lot of stuff and apparently are targeting people that want less messing around. Maybe v3 could have space for adding the battery :-) .. so it becomes truly stand alone unit.
Thr altitude trim is huge if it works i have a vevor that runs uber rich at 10000ft. Sadly mjne you cant adjust hz so it soots up every few days. Ordering this
I don't get why they have the heat output and the exhaust on the same side? I like to bump the heaters up to a wall and exhaust it out threw a hole in the wall. But with this setup you'd be pushing your heat directly at the wall?
When using the thermostat mode, does it have to go through the full shut down/start up every time it comes on? That would drain a LOT of power (cleaning off the glow plug) from my battery.
Yes heater needs to go through a full shutdown and start up cycle with power not removed. This is why I say this mode of control is better for those who have RVs where these spaces are better insulated than a tent. In theory better insulated spaces can hold the heat in longer so auto stop/start is not a problem. Once or twice a night, can equate to the same as staying on continuously. This is another reason Hcalory has provided the 120v power adapter so there is no need for batteries, but it narrows the user for the need of on board generators or 120vac outlet. Not very off-grid . Now those of us who do use batteries and tent camp where we typically use level mode as standard. I have a zero sleeping bag and a 100ah battery turning off the heater at say 3am and back on at 7 is no big deal. As I’ll need the hot air to get the moisture out of my tent anyway. Just depends on the senecio and how you can adapt to make it useful. For some users the use of a battery is a limiting factor. 🍻
Nice review bud, but I just got this heater and the hot air outtake on mine is 3.5”, not 4”. 3.5” “standard” insulated dryer ducting is virtually impossible to find. I wish it was a 4” output diameter
@@RedClayRoost draw varies based on the setting, plan for 10 amps or even more at start up, the colder it is the more amps needed to start up. After start up and the glow plug is turned off , very low draws less than an amp at the lowest setting.
It should be sheltered , but there are some things that can be done to weather proof the unit. Extend controllers cable so it’s inside the heated space or place inside enclosure, add duct to hot air inlet side and tarp or canopy over the heater. I doubt it would make it through a flood situation, but should be good for rainy days. 🍻
I have gen1 and when I used it as a tent set up, I went through an entire tank of gas in one night, so I’m not sure why it was less efficient. Maybe because I was heating that cold air?
